Scarborough Beaches

You’ll have two gorgeous sandy beaches to choose from. Head to the South Bay and you’ll find quintessential British seaside charm. The seafront is scattered with amusement arcades, ice cream parlours, seaside stalls and restaurants. Hours of fun for the whole family – the South Bay is buzzing with things to do. Hop on the clift lift, which was created in 1873, for easy access to the town centre in minutes.

The North Bay has been awarded with Blue Flag status meaning it’s one of the best in Europe! Surrounded by hills and cliffs, this long sandy beach is more rural and rugged than the South Bay area. If you enjoy getting out in the water, it’s perfect for surfing and other water sports. Rockpooling is hugely popular here but we do recommend checking the tide times before venturing out. If you’d prefer a more relaxed day at the beach, you can hire one of the colourful beach huts which line the esplanade and sunbathe to your heart’s content.

Scarborough Attractions

At the North Bay, you’ll also find some of Scarborough’s most popular visitor attractions. All of the family will love Scarborough Sea Life Sanctuary where you can see seals, penguins, sharks and turtles. World class comedians, singers and performers are showcased at The Open Air Theatre. For thrill seekers, Scarborough Sky Trail Adventure will certainly get your pulse racing! One of only a few in the country, this rope bridge and beam course at North Bay Railway is a great day for the whole family!

History of Scarborough

If you’re looking for history, Scarborough is steeped in it! Visit Peasholm Park which opened in 1912 and is an oriental themed municipal park. It’s voted the 6th best park in the UK and the 25th park in the whole of Europe! There is a boating lake, putting green and a beautiful system of streams, waterfalls and magical gardens.

With 3,000 years of history, another recommendation is Scarborough Castle which offers panoramic views of the Yorkshire coastline. Explore the castle, play on the headland or grab a tasty coffee from the coffee shed.
