The bungalow was excellent with plenty of room, The owners were very helpful

There was a problem with the boiler, so had to leave, but the owners were extremely helpful in getting it sorted, but had to leave early due to having a baby there.

The property is large and in a good location with lots of beaches, castles and other attractions within a short drive. Great view (apart from the dumped van) towards the sea. The shower in the front bedroom was very good.

The only garden is a small one at the front of the property. It refers to being enclosed, but this isn't correct if you have small dogs as there are gaps in the bottom of the trees. The rear view is spoilt by a 'dumped' van in the back garden/old stable area. There are no bedside cabinets. The property is in desperate need of some attention. There are loose door handles in the kitchen, one of the wardrobe handles and at least one of the taps. There are scuffs and marks on walls where things have been removed but not re-decorated after. There is a over powering smell of paraffin in the utility room that hits you every time you walk into the front door - not alleviated by the window in there being nailed open. There is a huge crack in the living room and water leaks in to one of the patio doors when it rains heavily. This could be a lovely property if some time and money was spent on keeping it in good condition but it is currently not worth the premium price I paid in my view.

Spacious rooms. Fully equipped, modern looking.

Dust and cobwebs around the property. Water was coming in under the door at the front of the property when it rained and the rain was gushing from the gutter and down the window in the far end bedroom.

The property is very spacious but very basic to say the least it was basically clean shelves light shades hadn’t been dusted for awhile main issues a filthy washing machine hadn’t been attended to for a while and a horrendous odour of fumes from the utility room where fuel had been spilt the day we arrived
The owner was very responsive to any calls and did attend twice to issues
The Pub just over the road was an excellent place to visit friendly and lovely food

Sad to say that a number of things let our stay down
All the double beds were very uncomfortable and were in poor condition
Ruined what would have been a good stay no batteries in any of the remotes which we had to buy and we had to give the place a bit of a tidy up on moving in ie scraps in the kitchen sink a sticky table top and badly iced up fridge freezer
Also the smell from the heating unit was not very pleasant and went through the house. The water pipes could do with looking at as the noise from water hammering was horrendous.

Nearness to Pub with extensive restaurant (50 metres). Short drive to beaches. Secure garden for dogs. Streaming service with most Apps accessible (only BBC iPlayer not working)

Road noise from A1 which is nearby. Having lived on a busy road previously this was not a problem for us but may be for others.
A radio to pay radio station music - some of us of a certain age still prefer this

The location was central for exploring the area however noise could be heard from the A1 motorway.

The property was dirty with damaged, substandard fixtures and fittings and uncomfortable beds and pillows. The property is in need of a deep clean and significant maintenance work to bring it up to a standard to match the premium being charged to stay there. Unfortunately our experience appears to be similar to others who have stayed and left reviews about the property. Host & Stay did not address our concerns around cleanliness during our stay which was disappointing as this appears to be a recurring issue.

The stay was great and contact with booking staff was good the down side was having to pay
Admin fee £10.00 then a deposit £250.00 to third party holding deposit to super hog.
and will Take 10 working day to receive deposit back this would be the reason i would not use again .

Enjoyable stay in a quiet locationwith stunning views. Its a good basr for exploring Northcumberland however the village itself is a bit of a one pub town.
We requested an early checking but wereadvised that dueto Covid cleaning policies this woukd't be possible. We were therfore surprised to see that the main living area was not up to our standards. It looked like the Covid clean involved a hoovering of the carpet and a wipedown of the kitchen surfaces. The main fireplace in the living room was dirty and dusty and didnt look like it had been cleaned in months. The mantlepiece was also dirty and dusty. The windows were covered in handmarks and obviously werent included in the Covid clean.
The kitchen was stocked with enough plates, cups etc but some of the plates had chips in them.
All other areas of the house were satisfactory

Great value for money and lovely views of the countryside. We thought the feedback that others left was quite accurate and don't think feedback has been actioned upon. It wasn't spotlessly clean, the kitchen had most of the basics, there were no bedside tables, holes in the towels, strong smell in the utility room and one of the bathrooms gets wet when the shower is on.
The location for the A1 was great, big rooms and nice having most ensuite, really good communication from the hosts. A good place to stay all in all.

Lovely house, perfect for my daughter’s wedding guests. Ideal as each bedroom had its own en-suite bathroom which made it very easy for us all. Very spacious and the main living room was fantastic. Would have been nice to have a bedside table to put our morning teas on but no problem. The weather was fantastic in Northumberland for our entire visit so we were able to sit outside and take in the beautiful countryside. Lovely pub just up the road. Many thanks to our hosts for a perfect stay.

Overall nice place. A 7/10
Main let down: Cleanliness wasn’t brilliant, pasta found in sink, table sticky, spills on bedside table.
Kitchen not brilliantly equipped for catering, given it’s for 8 people, 2 small pans only provided, and no pepper. (Description did say salt pepper olive oil)
Long distance view spectacular, but a stable that’s in bad condition right infront. seating area facing the sea could be improved.
Living room could have done with coffee table and more homely vibes.
It was nice, just not as good as other air b&bs I have previously stayed in.

Great propert, which is clean and tidy. The location is good for the A1. The goggle pin sent me to another location in the village.. and friendly locals explained where the property was as they had experienced this with other guests being lost. I would recommend photos of the exterior as there are a number of red gravel driveways in the village.
I would recommend being aware of lengthy delays in food service during busy times at the local pub- The cook, baker Inn restaurant.
The property is great size and well maintained

great location, plenty of space in the house. Everything you would need for a short break. However, as previous reviews have mentioned the house needs a little more attention to detail. Hooks, shelves, curtains, bedside tables would make this a 5 star place. We found that all the cooking utensils were cheap/basic which made catering for lots of people a little tricky. there's a washer and tumble dryer in the house which is very useful but they both need a good clean.

6 of us had great time, Highfields is large and spacious and well appointed having all you need for a short or long stay, our party particularly enjoyed the en-suite bedrooms. Being close to the A1 allows you to easily get to costal resorts etc and for short trips inland on little used minor roads makes excellent driving. Northumberland has loads of things to see and do and I were to take another holiday I would gladly return to Highfields.

Angela

03/07/2023

This was a large place with plenty of space indoor and outdoors for my family.
It was easy to find and with the bonus of a great pub in walking distance.
We all felt as if the beds were cheap and uncomfortable which really let it down. Oddly there were also no bedside tables!! Though there were small dressing tables??
It doesn’t have those personal touches that you get with an Airbnb that is owned by an individual which is a shame because it was quite expensive ?

Large rooms, lovely terrace with lots of seating, well equipped kitchen, good communication from host and stay.

Property needed some TLC in places. Basics like bedside tables and somewhere in the bathrooms to put your wash bag missing.

Big spacious place really good for family groups or friends. Nice decor and well spaced out.
On reflection not lots to do in walking distance, when you have young family, however close to beautiful spots in Northumberland. As others say local pub definitely worth a visit.
Would recommend better directions coming from Scotland, but stay we're super responsive and helpful.

Great place to stay. Clean and spacious for all 8 adults. Kitchen utensils barely adequate to prepare meals. Night tables would be useful and toilet seats need fixing. Would happily recommend this place to friends.

We loved our stay here. It was perfect for 6 adults and 2 children. Lovely sized living room and kitchen. It was great having the en-suites and family bathroom.
Lovely views from the living room towards the coast.
The rooms could definitely take a larger bed and bedside tables but they were comfy and cosy and well decorated.
Luckily for us it was still dark in the mornings but they could do with some extra blackout linings or curtains as it will be very bright in the summer.
We found it a perfect location for little trips to Caster, Alnmouth, Amble, Warkworth and Alnwick. Stunning scenery.
On the way home we visited NT- Cragside which is definitely worth a visit.
Hosts very good with communication via Air bnb but it would have been nice to have a little info page to welcome you and suggest local trips.
Would definitely return.

It was all beautiful - the area is gorgeous - the little village pub was amazing.
The bungalow was so spacious - lovely views just stunning.

Just being picky we had the very end room and beds was very hard but that's just a personal preference - my husband thought it was great.

The cottage was spacious; the bedrooms and en-suites were clean and comfortable.
Sadly the kitchen did not match this. The cupboards were dirty, the sink very stained (we had to clean before use) and there were insufficient tools and pans to cook with. We had dogs with us and I would not consider the garden to be secure for dogs. In addition there was a nail on one of the French doors in the lounge that had been knocked through from outside with the pointed end protruding into the room. Insufficient toilet rolls meant we had to go and buy some.
A guide indicated how to operate things would be helpful. The views were lovely and our stay enjoyable. With a litttle more attention to detail this could be a 5 star property.

03/09/2022

Lovely house but a few suggestions
- could do with bedside tables in bedroom and some sort of shelf/storage in the ensuites. Outside furniture on the balcony would be nice.
Fantastic pub/restaurant 2 minutes walk way. Not too far to drive to some lovely places to visit - we visited Alnwick, Amble and Whitley Bay.

The property is in an excellent location for exploring the Northumberland coastal area with all of its attractions. We found the house to be comfortable though not as clean as we would have expected. When we arrived we couldn't find the remote for the TV in the lounge. We removed the cushions on the couches only to find that they hadn't been cleaned in ages. Luckily we did find the remote. The lounge was very nice and spacious but seriously lacked any tables on which to put anything like glasses, cups, etc. A couple of coffee tables and/or nests of tables would have been very helpful. Additionally, the bedrooms lacked bedside tables. We also could not find any information about any of the appliances in the property. The laundry room did smell of fuel oil but that had already been pointed out by previous guests.

Our stay in the house was just what we needed as we used it for a base however we received virtually no communication from ‘Stay’ and had a number of issues that they did not get back to us about.
Apparently there was an issue receiving emails from AirBnB but if they had simply logged onto AirBnb to check, they would have seen our messages.
Positives
- Large spacious house with lots of room for large families and two families sharing
- Good en-suite facilities
- Large Kitchen for entertaining
- Lots of parking
- Just off the A1
- Walking distance to a very good pub
- Ikea kitted out house, simple and new
- Enclosed garden for dogs (would be even better if last group removed their dog waste or cleaning staff checked the gardens before the next check in!
Negatives
- AWFUL smell of oil in utility room which was so very bad we had to have doors and windows open as it came into the kitchen. In the end we did not use the kitchen much as the smell was so bad. We did meet the lovely owner who said that they would be ripping up the floor to replace the joists and board that had oil spilt on when they removed old boiler
- Communication from STAY wears shocking. We could not get the TV in the main room to work and heard nothing back and no did we receive check in or departure emails
- Directions to find the the property area poor. Perhaps using the Cook and Barker pub as a reference would be better? Also What3Words would be very useful to help find the property
- Lack of equipment in the kitchen, one tea towel for the whole stay, no coffee maker or cafetière, not many cups, bowls or plates for a large property.
- All bedroom windows have blinds but no curtains so we were woken very early by the light. Not useful for children or light sleepers
- It would be very useful to have at least one bedside table in each bedroom
- Carpet in the main bathroom - tiles would be more hygienic
- No hooks on any doors anywhere so nowhere to place towels to dry, dressing gowns etc. It would be a huge bonus to have these
- Large bedrooms but very small double beds
All in all a great base but it could be so much better if the the above items were put in place.

This was expensive for 3 nights costing £871 but it looked good so expectations were high . Unfortunately we couldn't sit out in the overgrown garden . We saw rats in the disused stables at the back and there were rat traps at the back of the house . The woodburner had a out of order sign when we opened the door and that was disappointing . The wifi was very poor and we couldn't watch netflix or use tablets . The white blinds meant we were awake at the crack of dawn everyday . The pub nearby was lovely so at least that cheered us abit . There is a 12 foot drop at the back so not suitable for children .

Janice

A large house, nicely decorated with good ensuite facilities. Comfortably big enough for our group of 6 adults and 2 children. We found the large wrap around terrace a bit of a challenge for the little ones as there is a significant drop to the rear of the house. Overall we enjoyed our stay, village is very peaceful and there is a lovely pub/restaurant 2 minutes away.

02/07/2022

The location was perfect, a short drive from coast & interesting places, a stride or two from an excellent busy pub restaurant where we had an excellent celebration meal. The three en-suite bedrooms and family bathroom for the twin room suited us perfectly.

Sleep was difficult for all three couples because the white vertical blinds were inadequate to block out the June early morning light. Wouldn’t come again until blackout curtains are fitted.

Great find, we had a family weekend, four bedrooms, three ensuite and one good sized family bathroom. The living room was really comfortable, plenty of space for everyone. Nice bright house, great sized kitchen and dining table. It is literally a minute off the A1 so if the windows are open you can hear the traffic. Parking for up to four cars is fantastic. The pub a few steps up the road was very good, excellent Sunday lunch. Would definitely stay again.

Janice

22/03/2022

Great location - very close to local pub with great food. Only about 10 minutes drive to Alnick where there are lots of shops , cafes and restaurants. Best to book a table as the restaurants get busy over the weekend. The secondhand bookshop is well worth a visit and you can get a lunch there. There are also castles to visit and quirky shops.
The house was very clean and modern. Loads of hot water and you are given lots of towels. There is plenty of room for a large group of people and the showers are easy to use. Great weekend stay

We would have appreciated knowing about the disc parking rule beforehand. No problem when you know, but before we were informed by a couple in a car park, we were driving around and around the village which was stressful.
One of the radiators in the big lounge did not work , so as the weather was very cold it was not ideal.
Also a small bedside table in the double bedrooms would be good to put phones, books on etc.
Apart from above we were very impressed with everything.

Beautiful, spacious, well equiped and peaceful place to stay. Quality bedding and towels. Great wifi which gave us no problems. The place felt like a home. The communal dining/kitchen area brought the family (teenage children) all together at meal times and the spacious lounge was excellent, having a bathroom each was a luxury. Great family place to stay!
