We loved our stay here, what a lovely place in a very picturesque village, we’re definitely coming back! Parking was easy, we have a massive car but there was plenty of room in the gated parking area - you’d comfortably get 2 cars in there.
The house was more spacious than we thought from the outside. It’s a very homely place with far more furnishings than your standard air bnb. There are some basic bits that need a bit of attention (like the light in the extractor fan or the battery in the clock) but nothing that effected our very pleasant stay. The large bedroom is modern and spacious, which possibly emphasised the somewhat dated bathroom next to the room, but everything worked perfectly and was clean so it didn’t bother us. The gated garden is not directly accessible from the house, you have to go out the front door and round the side to use it, but we enjoyed sitting out there a few times whilst the dog played on the lawn. Overall a great place and highly recommended!

The cottage was nice and spacious in a lovely village

We enjoyed our stay but this cottage isn’t child friendly for children under 5 years old I would say due to steep stairs and different levels between the living room and kitchen area and also the garden had steps we had a 4 year old with us a 19 month old and a 5 month old so was a bit difficult at times

Lovely location, great walks, nice pub but neighbours a bit unfriendly!

Absolutely spectacular place to stay, very comfortable and cosy. the location is fantastic for both hiking or a great day by the sea. host very responsive to any queries during our stay.

The place is lovely and really enjoyed our stay. Hutton le Hole is a great little village too - we especially enjoyed the Ryedale folk museum.

Charming cottage in idyllic village with plenty of space and lots to do.

Only thing for us not being from Europe was figuring out how to consistently heat the home. Was fine most of the time but sometimes a bit of a struggle.

Size and layout

Nothing

Beautiful cottage in a lovely part of the country. Great base for visits to Whitby, Sandsend etc. We would stay again.

Very relaxing stay.

Had some problems ie the overflowing bins which stank and woodlice invading an upstairs bedroom and bed, wonky dining chairs and torn seat on one - complaints not promptly especially the bins which we felt constiuted a health hazard which the local authority should be aware of. The kitchen is awkward and narrow and apart from the fridge and freezer there was no cupboard space to store food. Downstairs bedroom although nicely furnished we had light streaming in at sunrise through the 2 uncovered windows. Need blind on the little window and the Velux window.

Lovely property, very peaceful, well located in a beautiful area with a nice pub nearby and lots to do. Would definitely go back.

Lovely cottage excellent location all amenities catered for. Starter pack of dishwasher tablets etc. Good communication with Host and Stay

Nothing

Lovely village, perfect accommodation for a walking holiday base.

Really beautiful property in a fantastic location.

The location was stunning and the place was just perfect for us. The beds were super comfortable and the lounge super cosy. To be able to build a fire was just glorious.

Dirty pans in the oven, and only one dishwasher tablet and a squirt left of washing up liquid. Also linked - but not Greengate Cottage's fault - is paying an admin fee on top of the damage deposit and still won't see that getting processed until a week after I get back and then it takes several working days. It's 2023 and money is transferred quickly and for free. Give me my deposit back quicker, please.

the location was excellent

needs a deep clean , lots of cobwebs and dust , the shower was un useable full of mould. Very cold , we had no hot water or heating on the second night we reported it but no body came to fix until 1/2 before we checked out the following morning!! not ok with 2 young children and -4 in the evening / no wood was left for fires had to drive and buy our own £26 ! Dog hairs and lots of dust pretty grim really not impressed at all

The property was great and the location was beautiful and peaceful. We had 5 adults, 2 children and a dog, and felt like there was plenty of room for us all.
It was helpful to have private parking and we managed to fit three cars in the parking area, which was really helpful.
We did have an issue where a few of the bedroom doors didn’t fully shut/lock properly, as some of the fittings were a little bent. This made it difficult when trying to keep the dog out of the bedrooms!
The bathrooms were good and small toiletries provided, but no hand soap given in any of the toilets.
We did however love our stay, would definitely stay again if we were coming back to the area.

Beautifully furnished, great location and plenty of space.

Nothing!

was very homely and very clean.

The only issue was that there was a large step between the down stairs bedroom and entrance hall to the kitchen which a member of the family with mobility problems found difficult. This was not made clear in the description.

Otherwise a beautiful cottage

Just home after a lovely family holiday to Greengate Cottage. We’ve been coming to Yorkshire for many years now and this cottage did not disappoint! There were 6 of us, so the two bathrooms and toilets were great. Lots of space and the rooms are lovely, beds very comfy. I especially loved the little library in the lounge - I think I got through about 5 books and could have kept going! We made great use of the fire too.

The pub in the village (The Crown) is well worth a visit. Very cosy, lovely landlord and absolutely delicious food (decently priced too). We will definitely go back there when we come back to Yorkshire.

Highly recommend for a relaxing stay in the Yorkshire countryside! Host and Stay were great at communicating and received very quick replies to any queries.

The Greengate cottage was an absolute delight. The location was amazing and all the amenities we could have needed were at our disposal. The charm of this lovely home was beyond our expectations. We will return as soon as humanly possible!

The property and surrounding area was absolutely beautiful! There was everything you needed in the property to have a comfortable and easy stay. The main bedroom was stunning. As were the bathrooms. We managed to fit 3 cars in the designated parking area, which was a bonus. The village shops were easily accessible and had bits that you needed. The walks/hikes close by were perfect. Overall it was an amazing weekend, the cleanliness just let it down.

The house could do with a deep clean. There were cobwebs and spiders everywhere. The tiles, underneath the kitchen cupboards and extractor fan were covered in dust and grease. Inside the kitchen drawers and cupboards all need cleaning out. There was food, dust and bits all over everything. There was dog hair all over the carpet. The mattress on the king size bed, attached to the single bedroom, could do with replacing. There were stains all over it. Also the fridge doesn't close properly and because of this nothing stayed cold.

Lovely cottage, great location it was so peaceful and quiet. Would stay again 10/10. Felt like a home away from home, had everything we needed.

Lovely cottage, had everything we needed as a family of 8 staying for a long weekend and it was in a fabulous location. Great communication with Host. Thank you.

Generous sized and well decorated property in beautiful location. Private parking and well equipped. Linen and towels provided as well as toilet roll and travel size toiletries. Quick and simple communication with the agent.

Spacious, well equipped, quiet location, nice garden and patio area with ample tables and chairs. Good off road parking for 4 cars.

Uneven path to rear of building from doorway to garden area. Shower head in wet room needs attention. House keeping need to check behind and under furniture when cleaning, much dust and debris noticed.

Nice cottage with character

Parking space very tide

We had a wonderful stay at Gateside Cottage! It was very welcoming, clean and comfortable. They had everything that we needed with a well equipped kitchen and lots of space whether it was to find a quiet corner to read a book or a large dining table to play games at! (watch your head in the doorways though, if you are tall!)
The village is very quiet and we had a lovely meal at The Crown where the staff were very welcoming and helpful.
We didn't have any communication with the owners but the staff at Host and Stay were very helpful and responded promptly to any queries we had. The downstairs bathroom shower was broken though, so impossible to use, but hopefully that will be fixed for the next guests to make everything perfect!
If we are looking to stay in this area again I would definitely book in for another stay.

We had an amazing stay at Greengate cottage. Lovely village location.
The master bedroom was definitely the highlight - very nicely done and felt like a hotel room!
Check in and out was super easy too.

Gîte de charme dans un village extraordinaire! Le Yorkshire est une superbe région!

so charming and spacious in an idyllic location surrounded by beauty!

loved it all

Very spacious and well equipped cottage in a beautiful, quaint village. Lovely garden with tables and chairs. The beds are really comfortable and facilities are all in working order. If you're visiting with young children, you may want to take some travel black out blinds for the windows but we made do with sheets and towels. The Crown pub in the village is gorgeous for Sunday lunch. Location great for exploring North Yorkshire and costal town Scarborough.

Lovely location.

All good.

Beautiful cottage with all the amenities for a lovely stay within a lovely village.very highly rated .

nice location for relaxing and spacious cottage

facilities could be improved: dish washer not working properly. plenty availability of numerous cookware. however some of them are worn out.

also there is a sunroof window with one of the bedrooms which us without a sunscreen- it’s very bright early in the morning.

Lovely spacious characterful cottage in a beautiful location. Comfy beds, good bed linen and bath towels. Large downstairs bedroom would be ideal for anyone with mobility issues. Super local pub and great bacon rolls for breakfast from the local cafe! We had a lovely four night stay. Would definitely recommend.

The cottage was so homely and comfortable and the village was lovely picturesque and friendly, lots of coffee shops to choose , and local pub for drinks or meals.

An amazing place in an amazing location, very spacious, beds all very comfy. Perfect for a long weekend away and myself/the group definitely want to come back

Lovely large comfy accommodation. Well
Equipment and fabulous location. Local
Pub a must if you stay! X

Spacious and beautiful location.

Amazing location - we are a large group of 20-23 year olds and we had the best weekend!
Would highly recommend for a walking weekend/ relaxing weekend away. Gorgeous accommodation with everything you need. Couldn’t recommend enough.

A lovely, well presented house that is perfect for a getaway with a bigger group. The house has 4 large bedrooms that are clean, nicely decorated and have very comfy beds. The house has a good-sized kitchen, and 2 bathrooms (1 with bath and shower and 1 with a shower), as well as an additional toilet on the ground floor. The lounge was great for socializing and playing games, with plenty of sofas and chairs and a lovely fire. The house is in the middle of the picturesque village Hutton-le-hole. The village has a great pub and a really nice deli, which is open 9-5 on Saturday and Sunday. Also lots of great walks to do in the local area! Would definitely recommend and would have no hesitation to book the house again. One slight issue we had was that there is a verification process involved when booking (which you have to do even if already verified on Airbnb). The process was a bit of a faff (didn't work too smoothly on my phone) but the customer service team of the hosts were very responsive and sorted the verification process for me, so don't let that put you off.

A beautiful cottage, full of character in the perfect location. The picture-postcard North Yorkshire village was a real joy to meander, the pub was excellent & star gazing was unforgettable. Would absolutely recommend !

Fantastic location

Dishwasher was poor

fully equipped and ideal for family gathering

dish washed needs replacing

The cottage is absolutely beautiful, and has all the home from home comforts. Very good with communication, we had a problem whilst there with a window, but they responded really quickly. The neighbour is grumpy! Stay out of his way. But the surrounding area is stunning. I would certainly stay again. There is a co op nearby for all food bits, only 8 minutes drive. WiFi is strong. No signal otherwise. We needed to make an emergency call so used the landline. Really good touch! Beautiful place, you won’t regret booking.

the country feel

the property was freezing.

The rooms have the perfect level of comforts to help relax into your break. The correct utensils in the kitchen, to the Christmas tree and board games in the lounge - spot on!

unfortunately the carpet was worn on the gripper in the kitchen/ diner and the dog hurt it’s paw on this. When I reported the staff were quick to apologise and said they would rectify for other guests

Amazing cottage in a beautiful location, the house and kitchen was well equipped for the 8 of us and we all loved how comfy the beds were. The Crown pub was a lovely place to go to and I would recommend to everyone to stay here! Thoroughly enjoyed our New Years holiday and celebrations!

Beautiful property in an amazing setting. The cottage was spacious and had everything we needed for our extended family holiday. We would definitely recommend.

Everything was brilliant

Lovely cottage in fab location, communication was great. Good value for money. The pub in the village are really friendly and the food was delicious, bonus is its within walking distance.we will definitely be back.

Spacious accommodation and beautifully appointed and decorated. Hutton-le-Hole is a lovely little village and the welcoming cosy Crown pub is 3 mins walk from the cottage

The dishwasher didn't work well and we ended up washing everything by hand. The advice for if we had any problems was to phone the owners; we tried when we got lost looking for the cottage on arrival and that's when we discovered there was no phone signal in Hutton-le-hole which was a bit of a nuisance throughout our three day stay with 6 adults.

The cottage was in a lovely location. The bedroom's were all lovely and big. The cottage had everything we needed.

The only complaint was, that if you used any logs, you had to replace them. It's the first time that a basket of logs, have not been included. It would have been nice to have a log fire. But, we couldn't be bothered to go shopping for replacement logs.

Beautiful village and a great base. Master bedroom was by far the best room in the house and bathroom was lovely too.

Information suggested fire stores would be able to use and replenish but their was none so had to nip back out to get!
Needs a deep clean, it was generally clean but areas quite dusty and plenty of tiny friends in the corners.

What a find, such a lovely cottage in a beautiful village. Ideal for a family get together.
Everything was catered for. The cottage was so welcoming and the bedrooms were a dream. Would defiantly recommend it and definitely hope to be back. Jane and family.

It was a gorgeous place to stay. Very spacious and clean. Had everything we needed. Lovely and quiet area all my family where very impressed overall, don't let the one bed put you off the rest where perfect and really lovely. Especially the master bedroom.. wow factor !

The double bed upstairs adjoined to the twin room was so uncomfortable. I was really ready to enjoy my holiday but it was the most uncomfortable I've ever slept in so was very disappointed I had paid all this money to have the worst sleep. Everything else was perfect

Great stay with friends or family, pub serves lovely meals and it’s a great location to explore the area.
We had great weather and made use of the back garden to the rear of the property.
Great for family reunions.

Great location and a very spacious and cosy cottage. We had a wonderful time. Great communication too. Thank you very much.

the location is lovely and peaceful yet within easy reach of lots of places. The locals are lovely and extremely welcoming

check in at 3 is abit unreasonable. You end up paying for a full day but can’t access the property till 3 even though the cleaning team had left by 1

The layout is good for a family, especially if you have 4 children as they can pretty much take over the first floor! The location is great too, lovely village, great pub and great tea rooms.

The kitchen was very old / tired and smelled of grease, with no cupboards free to store anything. The dishwasher left black residue over every item in it. The downstairs shower was old/tired and smelled of damp. The bins were supposed to be emptied by the cleaners so we had smelly bins filled to the brim for 4/6 days of our stay (until we put them out) - we called the number given to complain, but nothing happened.

Everything. Lovely quirky well stocked cottage. Great locality and everything you need.

Didn’t use kettle. New one needed I think

We had a great stay in a beautiful house in a fantastic village. There is loads to do in the village itself (great pub, fantastic museum, some nice independent shops, walks straight onto the moors through the town) and round about (lots of interesting places within a 15 minute drive).

The house itself was great and literally a stone's throw from the pub. We will definitely be back.

Lovely cottage. Great location, and good size for families. No shop in the town so come prepared!

Lovely house in a lovely place, would definitely recommend to someone looking to stay in the area! Only suggestion would be an eye mask or thicker curtains for those who’d like a lie in.

A lovely, characterful house perfect for a larger group - our 4 year old was delighted that he could go up one staircase and back down another, and loved all the kids’ books and boules for the sunny little garden. The ground floor bedroom and walk-in shower were great for an elderly member of our group with mobility issues (the massive step down into the kitchen area less so! Upstairs definitely a no-go for anyone unsure on their feet). Hutton-le-hole is a picture perfect place in a great location for Helmsley and the North Yorkshire Moors. Do try the very accommodating ‘Barn Tea Rooms’ in the village and we can recommend the afternoon tea at the Middleton Tea Parlour down the road towards Pickering! Overall highly recommended.

Lovely cottage in a beautiful village! I can strongly recommend.

Fantastic cottage in a great location, will use again if we get the chance.

Greengate cottage is a lovely property right in the heart of idyllic hutton-le-hole. We visited as 5 adults and had plenty of room. It’s very homely and the host always got back to us very quickly with any queries we had. Nice pub in the village and can do a good walk from the cottage to Lastingham and back with another pub stop off if desired! We were lucky with gorgeous weather in October and even managed to make use of the little outdoor seating area at the front one lunch time.

Lovely cottage in a nice village

Dawn W.

Lovely cottage with lots of character and an amazing master bedroom. Fully equipped with everything needed for a very comfortable stay.

This cottage is amazing - a home from home with everything you need to enjoy a break in a stunning location. It's just what you imagine a stay in a Yorkshire cottage should be. A cottage which is quirky with all the amenities you will need for a family getaway. It's ideally situated to explore the Yorkshire countryside and also trips to a variety of coastal places.

5 star accommodation in a 5 star setting . Everything was perfect . It was super spacious in a fab location

We had an excellent stay in Greengate cottage within the postcard village of Hutton-le-Hole. The property was very clean, specious & extremely tastefully decorated. It was well equipped and the extra touch of arriving to fresh milk was appreciated :-) We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning.

Great location in a pretty village

We stayed here during the may half term and what a gem of a place it is. Its got everything you could possibly need and lots of space. We were a family of 6 and we were never under each others feet. We especially loved playing theboard games that are in the cottage. The cottage itself is very easy to find and in a great location for exploring north Yorkshire. Everything from booking to being given all information on how to find the cottage and how to access it was straight forward. Waking up in the morning and looking out of the window to sheep grazing in the garden was a lovely site. The cottage was very clean and tidy and the bedding and towels were lovely and clean. If your looking for a family getaway in a self catering cottage this is the place to stay.

Hutton le hole is such a beautiful village and this cottage is the perfect place to stay, with ample parking and very comfortable beds. Would happily stay again in the future! Thanks

A lovely place to stay in a great location.

Just returned from a family holiday in this beautiful area of North Yorkshire, Three generations have all enjoyed the facilities and comfort of the cottage with lots and lots to see and do locally. We have had some lovely walks and lots of fun in the cottage playing games. The Grandchildren loved the roaming sheep and village ice creams, owl spotting and general quietness of not being in a big town. The cottage had everything we needed. Stairs might be a bit steep and narrow for anyone with a disability.

Beautiful cottage in lovely village, very helpful owner. Comfortable and well equipped with books and games for both adults and children.
It would be helpful to have a map of exactly where the cottage is..hard to find on a dark December evening! We were glad to be able to get in early given the time of year. Lovely cleaning lady too.
Many thanks for a good weekend break.
Ps playroom radiator not working- perhaps needs bleeding?

Pauline T.

brilliant! cosy, practical and well-equipped.
small chairs for 2-year old were spot on! and books for all ages.
disposition of the house was fine for 3 couples and a 2-year old
everything we could possibly want in the kitchen/dining room
we were 3 generations, and it suited us fine!
loved Rydale Folk Museum. exceeded all expectations

beautiful cottage, comfy beds, quiet location (in late winter)

Melissa B.

My family and I stayed for 2 nights in December for a family celebration. My niece loved the 2 stairways and loved exploring. The cottage was equipped with everything you could possibly need, including a cupboard full of games. We would have loved to stay longer. It is in a great location for visiting Whitby and nearby coastal towns as well as York and the dales. I can definitely recommend this cottage and we would love to return in the Summer.

Went with family and a friend...we all enjoyed it very much.

Thanks al lot David for everything!

Hutton-Le-Hole is in a brilliant position on the moors for visiting both rural areas and the coastline. The village is quaint with a few cafes, craft shops and the Ryedale Folk Museum which is fascinating and a definite place to visit. Greengate Cottage is cosy, has character, is well equipped and is very comfortable. We loved sitting outside, watching the moorland sheep all around the cottage! There are several great pubs, including The Crown in Hutton le Hole which is less than a minute's walk from the cottage. We thoroughly recommend both the cottage and the area.

This is the second time we have stayed as a family and was again very
pleased with the cottage.the amenities are ideal and scenery is stunning
a typical yorkshire dale setting.Plenty to see and do locally.

We were two families of 2 adults and three children in total. We all slept very well and enjoyed the house and the town

Greengate Cottage was simply fabulous
A lovely spacious house and lots of homely comforts
Communication before during and after was excellent" David was a great host
I would recommend David's cottage to anyone
Hutton Le Hole is a beautiful peaceful village

Anthony H.

A traditional cosy Yorkshire cottage, it was clear from the moment we walked in that the cottage has been maintained to a very high standard, all items such as wifi, TV & heating were left with good clear instructions. The crown pub in the village is well worth a visit the landlord is very welcoming and the food is fantastic. The village also has its own chocolate factory which was a favourite with our son. Scarborough, Whitby, York & Dolby forest are all within easy reach and well worth a visit. We especially enjoyed after a long day out exploring a relaxing evening in cosy surroundings in front of the open fire with a large glass of red wine!! We will definitely be recommending to friends and family and have already booked for next year.

Ed K.

We spent 7 nights at Greengate Cottage and had a lovely time. The cottage is perfectly tidy and welcoming with plenty of space (we traveled with a family of 7). The locals were all friendly, especially at The Crown pub. We made several day trips which worked out great: London (long day but you can't travel to England and not see London), steam locomotive to Whitby, drives across the moor, walks to neighboring villages, and last but not least, Castle Howard. All were within short drives of the cottage and in a wonderful setting. We miss this wonderful cottage and village already. Thanks David!

Chris S.

What a great find. Lovely family cottage in a great location. Stayed with family and felt at home. Clean, spacious and well equipped in a good location. Ideal base for exploring the moors. Will definitely be back.

Chris G.

The house has family photos in and far too many pans and plates and clutter. When we go away we want a place to feel our own and not as if we are visiting relatives. The kitchen cupboard had food in from previous occupants and not just the last ones. The cleaner cannot possibly keep the place clean with so much clutter. The bathrooms were in need of a make over and were rather dirty. I cannot imagine the owner has visited recently.

Berni H.

Lovely few nights stay in Greengate Cottage - superb location to discover the Moors. The cottage was very well equipped and had everything we needed! The children loved the games cupboard. We ll definetely be back! Thank you.

Glenn M.

As a last minute booking we were absolutely delighted to stay at the Greengate in Hutton-le-hole. The cottage is in the centre of the village with plenty of character. The rooms are very spacious and very comfortable. The village is a fantastic setting with things to do. Very very recommendable to anyone wanting a relaxing or exploring break away

We had a lovely break in greengate cottage very relaxing and a lovely spot. The cottage had everything we needed and more and we had a brill stay. Thank you
