Super location, beautiful characterful cottage

Wonderful location, right next to the beach. Comfortable and warm.
The stairs are difficult to negotiate so not ideal for mobility issues.
The cottage had hidden costs, over £160 for the night, then they wanted a further £25 for insurance or a £250 deposit with a £10 admin fee!! I begrudgingly paid the £25. It advertises parking but this is at the top of the hill which is £10.50 so an expensive night away. For this price I could have got 2 nights elsewhere. Couldn't check in till 4pm and had to be out by 10am so really didn't get anywhere near my money's worth.

Lovely cottage and in a great location. Would stay again. Found it tricky to locate and unload on my own as I couldn’t stop my car anywhere close by, though shopkeepers were very helpful.

Lovely cottage, pet friendly and spotless. Host was great and prompt response with queries we had.
Lovely for a weekend get away in a beautiful area with great amenities.

Great little cottage right in the harbour near a fab pub called Cod and Lobster. Very clean and good utilities. Open staircase so not great for small kids or pets you can’t carry!
Fab place though!

Location,
On arrival we had no access to the property and they hadn’t sent details even though I advised what time we would arrive and was advised they would send through. As there is no signal we had to go back to the top and ring. Was told they would only send the details once we had paid £250 deposit which we knew nothing about, or £25 waiver, so this was paid but reluctantly. We managed to park near and off load. The floors must have literally just been mopped as when we got in there were pools of soapy water on the floor, with no means to clean them up, and it was very slippy. No mats at the front door. Luckily I had towels as we had the dog.
First floor bedroom is lovely but the mattress is exceptionally uncomfortable and the springs can be felt and every time you move they make a noise.
The following day we went out for breakfast and came back to find someone trying to enter the property, apparently there was a viewing on it but they didn’t know it had been rented out. Not ideal. The property itself is lovely and the location is absolutely amazing. But I won’t book with this host again, which is a shame as they seem to have most of the rentals on the east coast

Lovely ‘get away’ ! We’ll definitely be back

Ideal location
Very clean and well equipped
Easy access.
Springs in mattress were noisy.

The cottage was ideal for the three of us for our weekend stay. It was newly refurbished, clean and generally well equipped. The host responded quickly to any queries. The location is an unique and charming fishing village, so the main street down to the harbour was not designed for traffic - leave the car in the main carpark at the top, but don’t get caught out by the adjacent privately owned car park - it has different rules and will rip you off with a huge fine if you get it wrong. We would stay again.

Really enjoyable weekend in a place which met our needs in every way.
We would definitely visit again

Great locay
NA

My friend and I had a great stay at Harbour Cottage. It was simply decorated with a well equipped kitchen and a perfect location in the heart of Staithes. Would recommend.

Very well presented little house in the center of Staithes. Spotlessly clean with excellent facilities (great little kitchen with coffee machine).

A nice little cottage in a lovely village but looses stars because of the incredibly annoying management company that looks after this cottage.
7 messages, 3 texts, 2 extra forms farming my info to then sign me up to a newsletter, requests for extra cash after the Airbnb booking process and finished up with several nagging messages for a good review and a prize draw. We stayed for 1 night but it would have been less paperwork to buy the place!
Chill out guys.

Nice compact house on cobbled street. Everything you need for a break away. Close to harbour, 1 minute away at most. Very quaint old fishing harbour.
Water temp is an issue for washing but easy to boil kettle, shower is electric so that was fine. Stairs are steep but expected so NOT A COMPLAINT but be aware. Bed mattress in first floor bedroom needs replaced, comfortable but don't move or you hear every spring.

Stayed at the harbour cottage in Staithes. Great location near the harbour. Close to both public houses and harbour … really great position
I felt the whole experience was really straight forward and relaxing

Lovely little cottage. 2 double bedrooms, but stairs not for the faint-hearted!
We tried and tried to get the hob working so we could have a cooked breakfast but could not get it working despite reading the very short instructions on the downloaded cottage information. No hot water downstairs even though we ran the water for a long time, but there was hot water upstairs.

Clean, location, quaint, ideal as a base for exploring
Had a lovely stay, although think 4 people would struggle in the downstairs area, upstairs was fine as 2 bedrooms

Perfect location.
Everything was just right

Very good

Location
Wet carpets
Cooker hard to work
Stains to carpet
Smelt foisty

Nothing
Filthy, mouldy, no hot water. Stunk

Nice location, nice small property
Easy drive to Saltburn and Robins hood bay
Very small, WC seat broke, no parking and the 1/14 Hill to park!

Great location in a charming cottage. Those with mobility issues will probably struggle with a tight wooden staircase, but in every other regard, it’s beautiful

The property was in a good location, modern, clean.
Advert misleading regarding parking as it states it’s with parking and then in the small print stated it’s an extra charge for 5 pound aday but dose not state where and it actually cost us £10. Beds needed a mattress topper could feel and here the springs as you turned over

Location of the cottage. Facilities and equipment provided.

Quaint cottage in a great location. Clean, bright, modernised but still 'cottagey'. Small, but big enough.
There was a foisty smell in the cottage. There was no signs of damp but maybe air fresheners and even a dehumidifier could have helped. Also a better seal on the bottom of the shower door would stop the water leaking onto the bathroom floor.

Location.
Filthy! The shower walls and bathroom floor need a deep clean with a scrubbing brush as does the stain on the carpet in the bedroom.
Too many emails when booking and an excessive breakage deposit.

The location of the cottage. Not in the potentially noisy beach area, but still centrally located.
I like the skills of the photographer to make the small, dark, dingy lounge/kitchen diner look so bright and airy.
Absolute rip-off. £154.80 for a Thursday night in September. They then had the cheek to demand a further £250 'damage waiver' at the last minute, 4pm, when I was trying to check in. They wouldn't hand over the door code until they got their grubby little mit's on their hidden 'extra' stealth charge. This wasn't easy to 'phone through, as there is NO Vodafone signal in Staithes. I had to go to the highest point of village carpark, 0.4 mile away on the outskirts of Staithes and wave my phone in the air to get a patchy signal. As I had no idea of this charge, I didn't budget for it and ended up with an overdrawn bank account. I don't think a reputable cottage letting firm, e.g. cottages.com, Sykes, etc. would touch this cottage with a bargepole!
Not that there's much to damage. No washing machine, for example. When I finally got into the cottage, 50 minutes late, I was greeted by a weird smell, similar to 'garlic breath'. It seemed to be largely confined to the ground floor lounge/kitchen diner. The second floor main bedroom was quite pleasant. I had to keep the ground floor windows open to try and freshen it up a bit, but had to be careful, as I didn't want a gust of wind, or an intruder to break anything!

Cosy little cottage nice and clean
The oven was quite awkward to use as was the shower cubicle. Anyone who was a little plump would of struggled to get in there and there was a bad stain on the carpet in the bedroom

Excellent location, well equipped. The phrase compact but bijou springs to mind.
We wanted a sea view, and there was: 2 tiny triangles of blue beween pitched roofs. If you ascended to the top floor.
The only not-very-private outdoor space was a shared path, and rather scruffy.

Incredible location and such a cute cottage over three floors. The place was super clean with lovely fresh towels and bedding. Well equipped kitchen and very comfy couch and beds :-)
Liked it all :-)

Perfect place to get close to everything ? ?
Nice and cosy ?
The stairs just headed a handle rail or a rope down them ok

Location, comfortable sofa, nice size tv
Stairs and shower

Location, history, kitchen, view from upper window, comfortable bed.
Unpleasant damp/urine smell in main downstairs lounge room.

The location was nice, right in the village surrounded by beautiful scenery. Check in was easy.
Unfortunately we did not have a good stay at all. We were stopping for one night to rest during a trip along the coast.
The property was superficially clean but the shower cubicle was extremely mouldy, I've attached a picture.
One of the lights on the landing flashed brightly every couple of seconds when it was turned off. We couldn't stop it from flashing so had to keep the light on through the night. As the top bedroom does not have a door this disturbed our sleep considerably.
The £25 we had to pay to avoid having to give a large damage deposit was annoying. If it has been a particularly lavish appartment I would understand but there was very little in the property and we were only there for a night.
I knew we would not be able to park outside so was prepared to park in the car park, which is up quite a steep hill and cost £10 for 24hours. We didn't have £10 of pound coins so had a stressful time trying to pay online in an area with very little phone reception. I'd reccomend trying to have a good pile of coins to pay for the car park if you are staying here.
It was a lot of money to pay for one night in a small, mouldy property. We only booked it so that we could rest well and it didn't allows us to do so. I wouldn't reccomend

Location
Stairs were steep and open on one side dangerous for anyone unsteady on their feet.
Pouring with rain when we arrived and there were no mats inside door so we had to put kitchen towel down.
The insurance/deposit. Steep for two night stay. Surely, Booking.com could have an annual insurance which would probably be no different from what we paid for 2 nights. Charges were not clear on booking confirmation which when I contacted Booking.com they agreed with but nothing done!
It was unclear which car park was which at the top of the hill as arrived in darkness and ended up paying at the mosr expensive of the two car parks.

lovely area very quaint cottage with lovely features and everything we needed in it
nothing

Nice location
Not very clean

The location was excellent , 2 minutes from the beach and near all amenities .
Better communication about parking !! My husband spent over an hour trying to pay for parking, he tried 3 cards but he found unless you tick all the boxes, which is suppose to be a choice . It doesn’t accept payment . There is a camera recording time of arrival. With the difference of time of arrival and finally paying for parking we have ended with a 60 pound find as well as paying for three days parking .
We will never book any property which is booked through Host and Stay . 15 emails, 250 pound insurance cover plus a further 25 pounds insurance , oh which is not refundable ……. Why ?

The location and the cottage was nice, clean, tidy comfortable
The booking procedure and paying the deposit was ridiculous. Never ever will I use this type of booking procedure and deposit method. Up to now I have had 24 emails in connection with this one night stay. Having left the property on the 18th, I may not get my deposit of £250 returned to my account. 10 days waiting for a refund on my deposit is ridiculous. GET A GRIP, and they had the audacity to charge me £10 for the pleasure of paying the deposit. Sorry, booking.com, but you have gone way down on my accommodation booking list.
And by the way, no hot water in the cottage

The location was excellent, had everything we needed and used the space well.
Comfortable bed.
Reasonably priced.
Warm and cosy.
Complicated induction hob and couldn't find the instruction manual anywhere.
Perfect for 2 adults, top floor bedroom a little precarious with the stairs.
Sofa looking tired.

Nothing at all. This was the dirtiest property we have ever booked.
The place was filthy and disgusting. We were unable to stay there. The settee was too dirty to sit on. The carpets were stained. The oven was unhygienic. The bed mattress was stained. No mattress cover. The filth had obviously built up over time.

great location only downside for us was not been able to park our car next to the property but we was aware of this beforehand ??. really comfortable and highly recommend.
nothing really but only thing was the open stairs going up when I went to get a wine glass there was lots of dust and dirt in the cup assuming this is from this? not a major problem as can wash up before use ??.

Very good

Location was excellent, Village was lovely. Cottage was clean and neat had everything we needed.
A little better description of where the cottage was as we couldn't find it for a while as there are lots of cottages called Harbour ..... - we couldn't google it as there was no signal at the bottom of the hill. No parking so we ended up having to park at the top of the hill and walk down with all our luggage.

Location very good.
Cleanliness of rooms. No manuals for use of cooker, TV or coffee machine.

Very clean and new.
Coffee maker had European plug so needs removing as no use! Beds not at all comfortable. Not enough seating for four people Loung wise. No lighting over the kitchen facilities.

location was great and it was quite modern
ridiculously dangerous stairs, no riser, bannister or carpet, so dangerous. some carpet or rug would have been nice in the front room, couldn’t use the coffee machine as had European plug

Location was excellent. Tastefully decorated and very comfortable beds. The cottage is a good space for 2 people for a short stay.
We were OK, but the open, narrow staircase may be a challenge for others. The oven and hob are on the small side due to limited space. This is fine for small simple meals.

Location was great, nice and cosy. Clean and comfortable. Had everything you need facilties and equipment
Nothing, all was good

Vicky D

Please avoid this filthy cramped property,it was so dirty it needed a complete clean when we arrived ,the third floor carpet is stained with dig urine ,the sofa is stainex an smells awful with mouldy ceiling and tiles, wash avoid there are better in staithes.

The location was perfect the facilities were good
There was mold on the windows and a bad smell throughout the cottage could do with some improvements overall to make it smell and feel better.

Did what it said on the tin
Very compact

Lovely cottage in great location.
Everything we needed for our stay.

comfy and spacious
beds just ok

Very good

beautiful cottage in a stunning location in the heart of this quaint fishing village

A beautiful former fisherman's cottage located right in the center of Staithes. Recently refurbished, good decor, makes great use of the space available. Great location at the bottom of the hill, near the beach and right beside the Crab and Lobster pub and Dotty's Tea room.Lots of fantastic local walks, beach is lovely, and easy drive to Whitby and Scarborough.Parking like most places in Staithes a bit of a challenge, we unloaded / loaded the car near the Crab and Lobster before parking at the Village car park. Will definitely visit again!

Very good

Great position. Comfortable and everything you need for a short stay. Great staff at the Cod & Lobster - we arrived to find the property had been double booked and someone else was in there - had no phone signal, were being asked to move our car by the council and was at a loss as to what to do! Very stressful! Went in the pub, they let me use their phone to ring Host & Stay and resolve the issue. So grateful to them and the locals who rallied round us.
The loading/unloading is very tricky in peak season. We parked near the Cod & Lobster pub to unload and the council were on us asking us to move almost immediately.

Great location, Comfy bed, clean property and a great range of utensils and items needed for in the kitchen (cleaning sprays, pans, plates, cups and glasses).
The stairs not having a bannister on the living room side.
There is one on the wall but I would have felt safer with it being on the living room side

the bedroom were bright and comfortable
the kitchen area was on the small size

the location was perfect and the rooms comfortable and clean. everything you need for a short stay is catered for!
The stairs are quite steep so may be an issue to those less mobile.

Good communication from the owners. Nice and Clean. Recommend.

Location was fab, right in the centre of Staithes, good food nearby, pubs too. The property is recently refurbished, very clean and fresh and care has been taken to ensure all needs are met. The beds are comfy and the bathroom modern and clean. Really good.
Last residents could have washed up a little better, it's easy, there's plenty of hot water, soap, sponges and tea towels provided. The shower was a little slow to drain, so I turned off, to allow it to avoid it over flowing, but the turned it back on after a while to rinse the soap off and scolded my back, I was pretty quick to get out of the stream, I'm used to thermostatic valves so probably my fault, but could have been nasty with a child.

I like the the cottage as it is centrally located. Very close to the port, cafe's and pubs. People are friendly.
The noise of sea gull in the morning. The sun sun shine is too bright from 4am (in summer). Could do with blackout blinds.

Great location
Comfortable and clean property
The kettle was broken

could have done with an additional lounge chair rather than all having to sit on the sofa

Good value for money

Cottage was situated in the centre of Stairhes so very handy for the harbour, the pubs and walking.
We didnt like the steep painted stairs to both floors as we're in our mid 60s.
Think it's more suitable for younger people.

Well presented, decorated, very clean compact 3 floor apartment/house located in the main street of the fishing village in Staithes
Further alterations required on all the doors which are too tight (almost binding) on the hinged side leaving a considerable gap on the "handled side" - not necessarily a problem for a couple or family with small children. Furthermore the main entrance door doesn't latch very well as it's warped/bowed to a tremendous degree, reaching up to a couple of inches top/bottom.
The bathroom shares a floor with the 1st floor bedroom and thus is small and as a result no proper basin is fitted and no accompanying wall mirror. A quick hand-wash "basin" is provided which is not adequate. I would suggest replacing toilet with a fitted furniture toilet /basin set if it would fit and still allow decent access to the shower cubical. Otherwise locate a proper basin on the stud wall side rather than window wall.
The location of the house is some distance from the hill top, dropping off luggage and as a result blocking the high street poses some difficulty but wasn't terribly inconvenient in what is a fairly laid back kind of place but prospective visitors should be aware of this especially those who have any mobility difficulties, furthermore, note that parking is available but some distance away and up a rather steep bank.

Great location in Staithes, very close to the harbour and other amenities. Cottage itself was comfortable and had all the amenities and facilities we required.
Nothing to criticise or complain about.

Staithes is a little gem the location is excellent and the beds were comfortable. Smart TV and coffee machine. Decor style looks modern
The only place the door touches the frame is where it locks. You can see daylight through the door. This means it's noisy on an evening when the pubs are closing so until 1am.
The cottage sleeps 4 but there is enough crockery for 12 meaning there is nowhere to store food at all!
The stairs are ladder type stairs and a slippery surface so don't go up and down them with socks on. If you have any walking difficulties AVOID this cottage. They are exposed and steep especially to the top floor.
And dust from the stairs falls directly onto the kitchen below including cups etc
The lamp cable on the top floor bedroom had a coating of dust even though this is a touch point. There were some cleanliness issues even though you pay £60 for it but still asked to wipe surfaces on departure.
Its impossible to park outside the cottage to unload because you block traffic in both directions even though you are advised at check in you can park there for unloading for 40mins.
The sink is a wc sink so difficult to wash your face without getting you feet wet.
All of the taps are loose and move around.
Lastly the company managing the property will do nothing to fix the issues as I've seen in other reviews they will just take the money!

Great location and a nice property
Property dirty , dusty and had not been cleaned properly prior to our visit

Check in was very easy. We arrived a day later than planned and it was nice knowing I wasn't bothering somebody to get the keys.
The accomodation was clean.
The location was perfect. 10 steps away from the sea and the village pub.
The front door didn't close properly (though it did lock). Cold air got in through the gap. We visited at the end of November, this wouldn't have been a problem in the summer.
All of the kitchen cupboards were full of pots, pans, crockery. This left no where to store bread and other food stuff you wouldn't put in the fridge.

Amazing position
Photos are somewhat misleading

Fab location and such a modern, quirky, cosy, cottage right in the heart of Staithes. We loved it and will definitely be back soon.
Thank you

Good quiet short break

Very good

The decor and space was great, as was the location.
It wasn’t cleaned thoroughly and smelt damp. They’ve clearly had a leak at some point and haven’t done anything about it.

Close to the harbour and local bars and resteraunts
Domestic hot water supply was poor and had to reduce to a trickle to get hot water, needs improving as washing hands is important in these pandemic times .

Great location
Property very small , pictures on website very deceiving.

Very good

A complaint was.made about the cleanest of the property

Lovely, clean well equipped cottage. Perfectly placed for our weekend stay in Staithes. Cant fault Harbour Cottage. Bedrooms had plenty of storage. Everything was nice and clean. Cottage is just across from the pub. We will definitely be going back.

Well placed near the harbour.well presented interior
Too small for four people, although it has two bedrooms.Hot water system not efficient.Nowhere to sit outside the property.

Lovely and clean. Great location.
Bathroom was a little small.

Very clean, well equipped, great use of limited space. Good heating, great shower, nice bedding and towels. Good WiFi, good TV, brilliant location, nicely decorated and very quaint and charming.
No parking nearby, but I knew that in advance. Fiddly hob, loose toilet seat, tricky narrow stairs. Not really suitable for elderly, infirm, or children.

The location, the cottage, the decor everything we wanted for a quiet weekend away.

Newly refurbished to high standard. Being a 3 storey cottage space can be an issue and open plan steep stairs may be a problem for some. Location excellent. Would return.

This is our 5th holiday in Staithes and the most luxurious property we have found so far.
The downside is the 'bijoux' size. The mini kitchen area is so small that there is only space for a mini fridge/freezer with no dishwasher and just a mini double induction hob. And the kitchen can't be used at the same time as 4 being at the table.
For a short stay the luxury outweighs this and it is perfect. I look forward to returning. I would not stay for more than 2 nights though for the above reasons.

Harbour cottage is small and cosy. It is spotlessly clean & has a nice modern decor. Nice clean white bed linen & fluffy towels. Great location close to the Cod & Lobster pub & the beach. We really enjoyed our stay. Only negative was the stairs are very steep & there is no handrail, so not ideal for young children or the elderly. That said, it has not put us off rebooking! Just something you may want to consider.

Home Truths

By the very nature of Staithes 16th - 17th Century properties, Harbour Cottage has steep and narrow staircases so we ask all guests to take care when using the stairs.

Due to the nature of the property and it's central location, the cottage is on the cosy side.

There isn't a WC on the ground floor so you will need to take the stairs to the first floor to find the family bathroom.

Please note that the bedroom on the top floor has an open staircase so we ask guests to take care in this space.
