Property Highlight #1

Located in the Heart of Whitby

Just a few steps from the famous Flowergate and a short walk to the harbour, you'll be perfectly placed to enjoy everything Whitby has to offer.

Property Highlight #2

Quirky and Stylish Interiors

Henderson House is a duplex apartment with plenty of character. Exposed beams and sloped ceilings are paired perfectly with vintage style furniture and decorations.

The Space
Spread across four floors, Henderson House is a unique apartment. On the first floor, you’ll find the kitchen. With pale green cladded walls, beamed ceilings and an original fireplace, the kitchen has a country cottage feel. Traditional in style, it has wooden cabinets and high shine, black worktops. It is equipped with an oven, hob, fridge, kettle and microwave so you’ll be able to enjoy home cooked meals during your stay.

The dining room is located on the second floor. This quirky space includes sloped ceilings, a skylight window and a rustic colourful dining table with industrial metal chairs. There is also a vintage dresser which fits in perfectly with this characterful room.

Head upstairs again to the third floor and you’ll find the living room and the bathroom. The living room is welcoming and homely. With pale green coloured walls and a statement white fireplace, there is an ambient and relaxing feel to the space. Ideal for relaxing, the room is complete with a blue velvet sofa and a matching armchair. Turn on the flat screen TV and watch your favourite shows with your loved ones.

The bathroom is clean and stylish. Crisp white walls are complemented with dove grey cladding and there is a traditional freestanding bathtub. The space is complete with a WC and Victorian style basin.

On the fourth floor there are two bedrooms. The master bedroom boasts a king size bed with a light grey headboard and premium bedding. Packed with charm, there are matching white bedside tables and nautical cushions.

The second bedroom has two single beds. Ideal for children, teenagers and friends, this twin room has a light colour scheme to create a tranquil feel. White wooden furniture and checked blinds add to the cottage style of the property.

Neighborhood
Henderson House is located on the iconic Flowergate – one of the oldest and most historic streets in Whitby. You’ll find cosy cafes, restaurants and shops lining the street, so the apartment is ideally located.

The Blue Flag West Cliff beach and promenade is just a short 5-minute walk from the property. On Pier Road, you’ll find fun arcades and plenty of fish restaurants where you can sample the catch of the day.

The other side of Whitby is full of narrow, medieval streets dotted with boutiques and pubs. Climb the famous 199 steps up to the Church of Saint Mary. You can also discover the renowned ruined Whitby Abbey, which was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s gothic novel ‘Dracula’.

Step outside of Whitby and you’ll uncover a haven of woodland and moorland. Whitby forms part of the North York Moors National Park so it’s the perfect place for long walks.

Getting Around
Henderson House is located in the centre of Whitby so the town can easily be explored on foot.

Whitby train station is just a short 5-minute walk away so villages and towns along the North Yorkshire coast can easily be reached via rail. There’s also a taxi rank in close proximity to the train station.

There are plenty of bus routes throughout Whitby. Hop on the X4 and you can visit beautiful coastal villages like Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Staithes. The X93 travels along the coast to Scarborough. The 95 route features plenty of quaint villages, such as Grosmont and Lealholm.

Location!!

Where to start! The whole place felt dirty looked it as well.
Crumbs left on dining table
Paint peeling off a few walls due to damp
Cold tap didn’t work for the shower so me or my children couldn’t have a shower unless we wanted to be scolded
Mattress stains, no protectors on pillows or mattress
Window in living room slams shut
No scratch card left for parking even though it says there would be one, had to pay for parking for 4 days
Broken blind in living room, the list goes on…..
Would not recommend and would not stay again, an email has been sent and I’m taking it further!

The location

Blood stained sheets, dirty property throughout, dental floss left on bathroom floor. All pat testing on electricals out of date by 2yrs!
No cold tap in bath, so no shower possible. Plumbing terrible.
No parking permit provided. No customer service, full of broken promises to put these things right during our stay. Time spent complaining everyday to them added to our ruined stay.

Spacious and homely

Wasn’t cleaned properly as the floor had not been hoovered and provided a hairdryer that was not available in the apartment

We had a lovely stay and despite the cons we would book it again:
Pros - location and general amenities, kitchen lovely, bath was really nice feature
Cons - I didn’t notice the required additional damage waiver until I’d booked, the handbook was incorrect regarding the parking permit. The street parking is time limited.
Areas for improvement- shower curtain needs replacing or bleaching, radiators need repainting
Not putting it as a negative as the location was so good, but the pubs are quite noisy - this could be a consideration.

We did not stay here!! I’ve been attempting to get this rectified since you cancelled the booking and you’ve chosen the wrong one!! It’s been impossible to get good contact to actually resolve

We did not stay here!! The location was great and the bed very comfy. The view of the main room is superb!
The only thing which was not very convenient is that there is not shower head, only the bath. So it was not the best after a long day walking in Whitby, or to wash our hair. Apart from that, it was great!

Henderson House is a cosy house with great central location, lovely decoration, comfortable beds, cosy rooms, easy key box check in. We enjoyed our stay. There was just one issue - the bathroom has no shower. There was a Victorian, free-standing bathtub without shower hose. Shower hose had been removed by owner as previous guests had flooded the bathroom. So we had to wash in the bathtub with a jug from the kitchen to wash off the sand from the beach. The images on the website suggested that there is a shower - I think that image has now been removed. Another smaller issue was that the fuse blew when we used the kettle and toaster at the same time. The house is hosted by Host and Stay, a local holiday company who manage many properties in the area. The communication was very good and friendly but they require an additional waiver insurance fee of £25 or a deposit of £250 which needs to be paid outside the Airbnb website. No big deal but it confused me as I was not familiar with this. Once the owner puts in a shower I would recommend the property.

The location is absolutely fantastic, really central, although (as with Whitby) parking was a little difficult, but the complementary parking permit was a really good addition.
The staff/info provided was good and made the stay much less stressful, plus the app a really good helpful added extra in finding our feet.
The apartment was cosy and had coffee, tea, sugar and the essentials needed on arrival, which was nice.

The apartment could do with some TLC... there was paint coming off the walls in parts and damp on the wall in the master bedroom.
No blind or curtain rail in the bathroom, also felt a shower head was needed for convenience in hair washing. There was also a broken blind in the spare room and a couple of stains on the carpet. Mostly cosmetic, minor points but did feel they could be easily fixed... such a beautiful apartment in a great spot, just needs a bit of a touch up in places.

Good size for family of 4. With lots of beach days we were glad to have a washing machine and separate tumble dryer. Central location good to access the beach.

After reading recent customer reviews about the shower not being as advertised - the images show a mounted shower head over the bath with shower curtain - we enquired to check that the shower would be as the pictures show. We were given assurances that the maintenance team would have the shower as advertised which did not happen. Also large patch of damp on the wall in master bedroom. No parking permits on arrival so needed to find alternative parking on first evening.

good location. clean

no shower and plug unusable in bath - no response from owners when emailed. stairs quite scary - fairly steep and no handrail on most of them. windows new fixing in living room - one very heavy and does not stay open, other is very difficult to open and close.

This is a lovely flat, with everything we needed for our stay. I completely recommend it. It is light and airy and beautifully decorated. I will definitely stay there again.

we bought our own food to eat breakfast and also ate out every day

Overall the accommodation was nice and in an excellent area which was really central to everything but we felt there were certain areas that really needed some improvement.
we felt that it could have been a lot cleaner especially in the kitchen area, no one would want to sit in there to eat a meal as it was a little grubby, the fireplace in the kitchen was a major tripping hazard, this all needed to be knocked out along with the paneling where the fridge was to open up the room and make more space, the tap in the kitchen was leaking too and really dark in there.
We felt the dining room would be better serviced as another bedroom as was a waste of space and it needed a lick of paint throughout and cobwebs removing from the ceilings. No mirror in one of the bedrooms which wasn't ideal as we had to wait until the others had finished getting ready until we could and the throws on the bed were not clean, however the sheets seemed clean.
We think there was also a leak near the bottom of the toilet, no shower curtain which made it really awkward not to get water everywhere and we all had to crouch in the bath which really wasnt easy.
Whilst we appreciated it was an old building it was just attention to detail that was lacking throughout the whole of the property but a great location

Central, clean, all the facilities you would need. Property has lots of original features and also left fresh milk and tea and coffee so that was a nice touch.

No shower only a bath. Pubs nearby playing loud music until around midnight. Didn’t bother us but if had small children would be difficult to get them to sleep.

Location was great the apartment is clean Tidy and cute

This is not a criticism but as 3 middle aged women we would have liked somewhere to hang our clothes ..just a few hooks on the back of the bedroom door would have been enough as would a full length mirror and a banister on the top landing ..even a rope one ..but it is a lovely apartment

Natalie

21/02/2022

The location was great, easy to find. Parking was very straight forward with the permits and the apartment was clean and comfortable.

only negative is there was no shower curtain/shower attachment on the wall which meant either having a bath or sit down holding the shower

Lovely location in the centre of Whitby. Really well positioned. Kitchen well equipped. All beds and pillows lovely and comfortable.
Linen and towels pristine
WiFi through out and plenty of channels on the TV

Lots of stairs. Not for the faint hearted.
Could do with more handrails for safety reasons
No shower only a very small hose over the bath?? Disappointed
No place to hang clothes in the bedrooms
No mirror in the bedrooms

Henderson House is perfectly located to explore the tow, literally in the towns center and walking distance to all shops its great!
It has a lot of stairs so i would say its not suitable for someone who is not used to them, the bedroom is up 4 flights of stairs for example.
The kitchen is great and well equipped, there is plenty of space for a family of 4, but (2 adults /2 kids)
The hosts are responsive to requirements and quick to respond.

This house is lovely, well appointed, stylish (I did some Instagram posts ... LittleHitsofHappiness) and in a perfect location. Whitby is a beautiful place, charming and one of the places from my childhood memories. We had great food, pretty shops and really stunning by coastline at our door step. We hope to be back in Whitby and wouldn’t hesitate to book this place again. Thank you for hosting us.

This flat is a really great place to stay in Whitby. The location is fantastic with lots of shops and places to eat within a short walking distance. The flat itself is a lovely and clean, a nice cosy place to stay for a few days. The hosts were in touch regularly I'm sure if we would have needed anything they would've been very helpful.

The house is in a brilliant location, spotlessly clean and a really great layout and decor. Owners downstairs and very helpful when we temporarily lost our keys! Wouldn't recommend if staying for a week or more because no clothes storage in bedrooms so lived out of suitcases. Otherwise would stay again and would recommend. Thanks

This is a truly lovely property. Suggestions to improve the facilities have been well received and once implemented will fulfil all the needs of the visitor. Would definitely recommend ear plugs during the seagulls' fledgling season but this noise is to be expected in any seaside town. Think carefully if there are mobility issues or travelling with small children as many steep stairs. Finally parking for unloading and loading luggage must be clearly stated.

Lovely property, very well presented and nice touches on arrival. Contemporary, bright & fresh. Ideal location for exploring Whitby and the surrounding area. Easy check-in & check-out process. Very comfortable all round.

Very nice apartment although not super clean which is surprising as we were requested to clean all surfaces before we left! Right on Flowergate which was convenient for all the sights etc but unfortunately quite a lot of anti social behaviour around the area- lots of noise at night and it looked like young men drug dealing in a nearby alley- I realise this can happen anywhere it just took the sheen off our stay!

Home Truths

Henderson House is spread across four floors so you will need to use stairs throughout your stay.

Free parking is provided but this will be a few moments from the property.

Due to the quirky layout of the duplex apartment, the kitchen is located on the first floor and the dining area is on the second floor. You'll find the living room and family bathroom on the third floor.

There are sloped ceilings in some of the rooms so please mind your head as you navigate around.
