Climb the famous 199 steps up to the Church of Saint Mary. You can also discover the renowned ruined Whitby Abbey, which was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s gothic novel ‘Dracula’.

Step outside of Whitby and you’ll uncover a haven of woodland and moorland. Whitby forms part of the North York Moors National Park so it’s the perfect place for long walks.

Getting Around
You’ll find restaurants, pubs and shops just a short walk from Isla House.

Whitby train station is nearby so villages and towns along the North Yorkshire coast can easily be reached via rail. There’s also a taxi rank in close proximity to the train station.

Too steep a location for older people

Too many stairs, not suitable for older people with minor mobility issues.
There was no parking at the property.
There was no downstairs toilet.

We liked the space.
The view from the front lounge and colour scheme.
Well equipped kitchen, fabulous bathroom upstairs. The way we could get a through breeze going. Spacious bedrooms.

Settees and chair not particularly comfortable.
Wooden seats on top patio rotting.
Summer weight duvets would have been good.

Lovely place and nice garden to site out in. Amazing bathroom and all very clean. Other than the steep ramp to the house it is a relatively flat walk all the way into town and to the pier. Would highly recommend

Location was okay

I requested a cot, which was confirmed on booking, the one supplied was filthy and broken. I called numerous times and this was not resolved, so we had to go and buy one.
The main bathroom shower leaked through to downstairs and the ground floor shower set the fire alarm off.
This was supposed to be pet free, but we found kibble in the kitchen and dog bowls in a cupboard.
Plates were dirty and chipped
Bit of a dump all in.

Excellent few days in Isla House. An ideal place for a large family with easy access to Whitby town and local attractions. Beautiful decor, in keeping with the age and style of a Victorian terrace house.

Great stay, easy to get walk to the centre of Whitby! Lots of space for all 6 of us! Only thing I’d suggest is to make one room a twin room on the top floor.
Garden was beautiful and private despite being so close to the centre ! Had a fantastic break, just wish could’ve stayed longer ?

Good location and in walking distance of the main centre
Beautiful decor and tastefully decorated throughout
Lovely front garden
Everything worked and a lovely shower and bathroom
Good internet access
Well equipped kitchen if you wanted to cook at the premises
I really liked the app and guide book with recommendations for visitors
Quiet and peaceful

Parking is first come first served so slightly stressful if you cant get a space near the property especially with children
Steep stairs to the front which wasnt an issue for our group but would be a struggle for people with mobility issues
The front attic bedroom was quite light on a morning so could do with darker blinds esp if you have children
Personal preference but maybe a twin option for siblings/friends as it was all doubles

We had a lovely few days at Isla House. The bedrooms are a great size and the kitchen was well equipped. The bathroom was lovely with the most amazing bath. The house is over 4 floors so there are lots stairs and parking can be a bit tricky but the house is very well located and it’s just a 10 minute stroll into town. We would stay again.

A beautiful property in a fab location. The house is so full of character. It was clean and had everything we needed (although kitchen not quite as well equipped as some other places we've stayed). We would definitely stay here again if we have another trip to Whitby.

Beautiful property with some great design features. Would love to live in one similar. Nice garden / patio area and plenty of space inside to chill. well equipped, a real home from home.

We took a couple of octopi with us (an 84 and 82 year old) and the steps / stairs weren't great for them. Although we did manage to park close by, this and the slope wasn't perfect for us. But we coped and had an excellent break. I suspect families didn't have 2 and 3 cars each when the property was built!!

We stayed in Isla House for 4 nights in May 2022.

Have nothing but good things to say. The property is spacious, full of character and charm.

Rooms were spacious and warm. Internet was quick, reliable and can run Netflix well.

Whitby centre is a 10 minute walk with a large co-op on the way. Making meal planning easy.

You feel close enough to the town centre but in a quiet and friendly area.

Parking was first come - first serve but we had no problem parking even on the weekend.

A great and enjoyable stay.

We have just come back from a short stay here and absolutely loved it. (We were two families with young children.) The house is in a great location, a 10 minute walk into town with just a slight, steep hill at the end. We managed to park two cars on the street behind the house and never had a problem with this. Inside, the house is beautiful and the downstairs spaces are great social spaces. There are quite a few stairs in the house but apart from that we really enjoyed our stay here!

Lovely house with a high standard of decorations and decor. 4 large double rooms with plenty of space and beds. Lovely 'underground' double room with en-suite - connected to the rest of the house by steps down but feels very private. Nice garden but very steep. Less than 10 minute walk to the town centre - just over the very quiet railway line using a pedestrian crossing point. Large Co-op just before you reach the town for everything you need.
Its worth knowing that the house is on a steep hill and accessed via a side door which is down a steep alleyway - so access may be a little more challenging for some.
A wonderful house which also has a super view from the bright but cosy front room. Good central heating.

We had a stay here in March with some friends. This is a beautiful quirky house with lovely decor and lighting in each room. The main bathroom is fantastic and the each room well decorated. The host put the fires on for our arrival which was really appreciated as it was chilly out. Check in was easy once we found the red door down the passageway. Communication with the host was excellent and they responded super quickly to messages sent. the house is well located and a short ten minute walk from the town. Overall we all had a lovely stay here.

Really lovely house, beautifully decorated with really comfy beds and bedding. The house is easy to find, well located being a nice 10 minute walk into Whitby but also nice and quiet when at the house. Parking on the back street wasn’t an issue either. We went in January so didn’t get to sit in the garden but it’s a lovely space for better weather. We were a group of 4 friends so it was the perfect house for us, we would definitely stay again.

This is a beautifully decorated house in a great location. Close to centre and a great space to stay with family and friends. Had a lovely stay with three other couples and the bedrooms and living spaces were perfect for us. Really enjoyed the window
Seat and views across the town. Parking was easy on the neighbouring streets. Great for coastal walking, Whitby shops and fish and chips. Communication with the hosts was easy and they responded quickly to turn the heating up when it didn’t come on in the evening. Would definitely stay again.

Isla House is gorgeous.

It’s full of character and quirky style. Spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated throughout. Very well equipped kitchen and a stunning bathroom.

The outside space is lovely. There’s an enclosed front garden - nice spot for outdoor dining. The location is very quiet and peaceful but it’s only a 10 minute walk to the centre of Whitby. Street parking to the rear of the house was never a problem even on a busy bank holiday weekend.

Stay are great hosts. Good communication prior to and during our visit.

All in all a wonderful property in a fabulous location. Highly recommended.

Fantastic week away in Whitby with the entire family - and Isla House was just what we wanted/needed!

As some of the previous reviews have mentioned, we were also a bit dubious about booking a place that had no reviews yet but we needn’t have worried. The house was spacious enough for all 7 of us to feel as though we weren’t on top of each other, it was spotlessly clean and each room looked exactly like the photos on the Airbnb site.

Parking on the road behind the house was no problem - even with us having two cars and it being the school summer holidays - and it was only a short walk to the main centre of town. Check in was easy and communication with the people at Stay was also great.

An excellent place to stay for a British seaside break - we will hopefully be back in the near future!

Recommended for families and couples. Location is ideal for exploring Whitby and the local area, the house is in great condition and worked perfectly for 2 families (4 adults and 3 kids).

The kids loved exploring the house and we loved sunbathing in the garden and having a relaxed boozy games night after they'd gone to bed.

The company who run this proper are well organized and the communication was great.

We hope to come back again next year!

Absolutely beautiful home and garden. Perfect for a family beach holiday. We enjoyed walking down into Whitby, only a 10 minute walk. We also loved having breakfast and evening meals in the garden on the big dining table. Only a short walk to the beach in Whitby or a 10 minute drive to Sandsend beach. Would defiantly stay again.

Absolutely amazing property - would recommend and we will stay here again!

I was a bit apprehensive about staying at a property that had no reviews but I wanted to go on a last minute get away with my family and we decided to go for it! The house is gorgeous - all newly refurbished and decorated to a high standard. There were 6 of us staying in the house and it felt huge! Plenty of room for us around the dining table and plenty of room in the kitchen (decent size fridge/ freezer etc) to accommodate everyone! The kitchen was really well equipped with plates, cups, glasses, dishwasher, pots and pans etc - we do a lot of cooking so this was very much appreciated!

The outside space is excellent too - and not easy to come by in Whitby - we had a few sunny days and were able to eat outside/ have drinks and play games in the garden which was lovely. You can also get a glimpse of the steam train between the houses in front of the property!

I know that the description states that there's no guaranteed parking at the property as it is all street parking but we didn't find this to be problematic at all. We had two cars (one of which was a larger SUV) and managed to park both cars for the entire week - and went out in the cars sightseeing most of the week too! There aren't a huge amount of empty spaces and we did have to drive around the street a couple of times on one occasion but did find a space! Additionally, if you look out of the front of the property to the steep hill ahead (towards the railway bridge) there were always spaces on that hill (a 1-2 min walk away) if needed.

The property is in a great location and is close to town (a 5 - 10 minute gentle walk). Whitby is a really hilly place, but the walk back to the house from the harbour is really easy (and only a little steep towards the end). There are lots of great restaurants/ fish and chips shops and take away places within walking distance (Whitby Deli is a must - we went there to stock up three times during our stay!)

Finally, the hosts were amazing. I had continuous communication prior to our stay and all of my questions were answered quickly. Once in the property I requested additional keys to access the property and they were dropped off within a few hours which was very much appreciated!

All in all a great place, in a great location and I would highly recommend staying here.
