Property Highlight #3

Rich in History

Once occupied by the towns famous ‘Aunty Alice’ this old sweet shop was well known by all the locals. Today it is a recently renovated, stylish two bedroom apartment.

The Space
This bright ground floor apartment has been renovated to an extremely high standard creating a perfect space to enjoy a short stay by the coast. With a pale, neutral colour palette the apartment gives a real sense of calm.

On entering the apartment you step directly into the open plan living, dining and kitchen area. The two cool blue sofas frame the living area, surrounding a white wooden coffee table and metallic thread rug. From the feature window seat you can see the infamous Whitby Abbey, watch the world go by or enjoy the latest drama on the wall mounted, flatscreen tv.

The dining area comfortably seats four people at the simple, white and wood rectangle dining table. Centred between the kitchen and living area you can enjoy a feast for four or a romantic meal for two.

The fully equipped kitchen features cool grey doors with white speckle effect worktops and marble effect grey metro tiles. The kitchen has everything you would need for a short break including a fridge, oven, ceramic hob, microwave, kettle and washing machine. You’ll also find little luxuries such as a Nespresso coffee machine and a dishwasher. Adding a pop of colour to this open plan area are some Whitby themed fine art prints by Bridget Wilkinson.

This whole area is flooded with light from the large sash style windows. With ample space you can cook, dine and relax as a group during your stay.

Head down the hallway from the dining area and you’ll find the first of the two bedrooms. With a zip and link bed you have the option to configure this as one kingsize bed or two small singles. The bed features an upholstered, Chelsea style headboard and is dressed with grey toned cushions and bed throw. With marble style bedside tables and matching lamps the room is simple and symmetrical.

Head back to the hallway and you’ll find the bathroom. The bathroom includes a WC, basin and large walk in shower. It feels fresh and modern with chrome fixtures and fittings and large white ceramic tiles on the walls and floor.

The second bedroom can be found at the end of the hallway. This room features a double bed with a mink coloured fabric headboard and dressed with blue and grey patterned cushions. The room is finished off with geometric patterned lamps and artwork by Bridget Wilkinson.

Taking its name from what it once was, The Old Sweet Shop is a generous, bright and airy space, ideal for those looking for a little bit of calm away from the busy cobbled streets of Whitby.

Once a hidden trove of delicious hard boiled sweets and tasty chocolates, the children would scurry down the hill to use the coin machines at the front of the shop. Aunty Alice and her sisters ran the shop right through the war years and into the early 1980’s creating many sweet memories during some hard times.

Host & Stay are committed to our owners that their homes are protected during guest bookings. For this reason, we require all our guests to transfer a Damage Deposit (refundable, subject to an administration charge) or, to purchase an Accidental Damage Waiver which will cover you for up to £500.00 of accidental damage during your stay.

Located in Spital Bridge in Whitby, The Old Sweet Shop is a lovely harbourside less than a 10-minute walk to the town centre. There you’ll find narrow, medieval streets dotted with boutiques, pubs and fish restaurants. You can climb the famous 199 steps up to the Church of Saint Mary. You can also discover the renowned ruined Whitby Abbey, which was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s gothic novel ‘Dracula’.

On the other side of the River Esk, you’ll come across cosy pubs, fun arcades and even more fish restaurants on Pier Road. Venture along the lively road and you’ll reach the beautiful, blue flag West Cliff Beach which is lined with idyllic beach huts.

Getting Around
The centre of Whitby is a short ten-minute walk from The Old Sweet Shop.

Whitby train station is less than 15-minutes away on foot so villages and towns along the North Yorkshire coast can easily be reached via rail. There’s also a taxi rank in close proximity to the train station.

There are plenty of bus routes throughout Whitby. Hop on the X4 and you can visit beautiful coastal villages like Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Staithes. The X93 travels along the coast to Scarborough. The 95 route features plenty of quaint villages, such as Grosmont and Lealholm.

Clean and well presented

Sofa in property was small and no tv in rooms

Property was ideal for our little get away with friends. Great location, everything you need including parking. Nice luxuries included such as coffee machine, tea, coffee & UHT milk plus toiletries. Will definitely look to book here again if we stay in Whitby.

There was nothing really any of us could say we didn’t like. The only things we all said we would maybe advise would be the mattresses in both bed rooms all be it we slept they could probably do with being upgraded as one was soft if offered no support & the zip & link were 2 separate singles together that were completely different in height when in bed due to one dipping in the middle. Also as we were a party of 4 adults the sofas just weren’t big enough to sit comfortably on a night after our king walks, but as said above these did not make are stay unpleasant we really loved the littke apartment and it had everything we needed.

Very clean, furnished to a high standard and a comfortable property.
Loved the art work throughout.

Minor - The bin lid was broken and there was a damaged tile in the w/c

Very clean, plenty of utensils, good location, dedicated parking

As with most holiday let’s the sofas weren’t the most comfortable

After a long journey 400 miles we arrived late at night to an unserviced apartment will no clean towels, dirty bathroom & kitchen, bins full of rubbish, personal belongings of the last resident, towels with fake tan on, beds that had been slept in and more. It took an hour to contact the host and then we were given another unit for the night which was about 20mins drive away in the pitch dark, not ideal after a long day travelling with a child under 10 who needs to go to bed. The other unit was lovely but did not excuse the one we booked not being clean, I filled out the complaint form and sent messages but no further contact was made or compensation offered. The unit was nice and had a good location, the beds and sofas were small though and not comfortable. The parking is down the rd under an archway & the space not well marked. Nice enough flat but not worth what I paid, especially after arriving to it dirty. I don't recommend Host & Stay. Whitby itself was lovely though!

Very well equipped

Great for a short break for a young family as walkable to Whitby and Abbey. Has everything you need. Double bed very comfortable, but list a star for the twin/double as you couls feel the springs through the mattress and wasn't comfortable. So better for a couple only needing the one bed until the mattresses on the twin are sorted.

I stayed here 2 years ago and I choose to come back as it has a parking space and it’s a short walk into the old town, it has a well equipped kitchen

This time I was greeted by dirty ,stained sofas, dust, cobwebs, badly rusted towel rail in bathroom and toilet roll holder, clogged up and dirty extractor fan in bathroom. The largest of the beds was 2single mattresses that are supposed to zip together and one of the mattresses was completely collapsed making it impossible to sleep on. Thank fully Host and Stay sorted and alternative accommodation for us but we did spend our first day wandering Whitby whilst waiting for phone calls and emails to sort out situation

Handy for town nice bedrooms good shower kitchen well equipped. Well decorated

Busy road lot of traffic noise could be herd right through property even in bedrooms . Front room not adequate heating only one radiator cold when sat watching tv not very cozy at all sofas looking very tatty not very nice to sit back &
Relax on .Problems with host & stay about booking very unhelpful & poor attitude .parking was a shambles’s

Lots of crockery good location

Lovely apartment, short walk into Whitby centre and the beach, great shower, comfy beds

One of the sofas is very uncomfortable, can feel the springs - the only fault with the property

Great stay, perfect location. Would definitely stay here again next time we’re in Whitby

Good location, modern apartment and facilities, close to town, parking space,

The parking space needs to be clearly marked so that other residents don't park in the space, as someone else was parked in it when we arrived, which wasn't a good start!
The apartment needs to be cleaned better, carpets need a good vacuum, bathroom tiles going black in the grouting, bathroom radiator all rusting next to toilet ! Lounge seats very grubby and stained, Lots of traffic noise from road.

The cottage is in a good location with a 10 mins walk to all the central shops & restaurants. It is however on the main road & the traffic noise when you are in the lounge/kitchen is loud - luckily the bedrooms are at the back of the property so the noise doesn’t interfere with sleep.
The 2 blue lounge sofas that look lovely & new on the photos are actually narrow & small - almost child size, the seat cushions are really lumpy & uncomfortable & they are covered in stains.
In the bathroom, the shower cubicle tiles/grout need a good clean with bleach. There is mould on the ceiling above the shower unit & the radiator & toilet roll holder are rusty.
Overall this small light filled cottage is convenient & neat - but it needs a refresh & definitely some new sofas.

Nothing.

Everything. The advertising for this place is misleading as it shows the apartment when newly decorated and describes it in very positive terms. On arrival, it was dirty and the furnishings showed hard wear and tear. The tiles in the bathroom were dirty. The letting agent was contacted about this and cleaners were sent in the next day. However, the improvement after cleaning was non-existent. We had to find alternative accommodation for the first night and did not return to this apartment because of its condition so we only spent three hours there in total. The listing for this apartment is false advertising as neither description nor photographs bear any relationship to the reality. The letting agent has to be chased as they have not rung when they said they were going to. The worst holiday experience I have ever had.

A disappointing stay. The main bed desperately needed new mattresses. Springs were noisy and lumpy. Uncomfortable and lumpy sofas. King size bed with only a double size duvet. The neighbourhood was unsavoury with local youth kicking and knocking the windows and doors, on one occasion a firework was let off right outside the door. The front door leads directly out on to a busy road which made it noisy, especially with the local boy racers. No instructions for the tv. Toilet seat was loose. Dirty saucepans. Would not recommend this place. Whitby however, was lovely, but accommodation was not worth the money. No problems with host and stay as we had to report the slow drain away in the shower and they responded immediately. The whole idea of this break was for a restful week as my husband has recently had open heart surgery and we both needed to de-stress. Sadly the property did not allow this to happen.

lyn j

Sofas past redemption, badly stained and springs poking through topper.rug filthy shower badly scaled cup rings on coffee table food debris in freezer walls badly marked, inside of wardrobe in main bedroom dirty, empty toothpaste box in top drawer in second bedroom. We didn't stay, booking into alternative accommodation at short notice to give them chance to rectify this. Went back 4 days later and all that had changed was the freezer had been defrosted. So so much for the excuse that it had got rundown because it was fully booked and they hadn't been able to get in. Now having to fight for a refund. This property is decieving people and refusing to accept that it needs a good clean and upgrade.

Alles ok !

The lovely blue sofas in the photos advertising the property are actually dirty, badly stained and lumpy. The whole property was dusty and in need of a deep clean especially the bathroom. The shower area was very dirty and the grout which should have been white was dark brown. Host and stay did send a cleaner the day after our arrival and the shower area was better afterwards. The property is in a brilliant location and a good bonus was the parking slot which comes with the rental. This property will be perfect after a really good spring clean.

Great location
Well equipped

The bathroom would really benefit from a deep clean. On arrival it was “surface clean” and had clearly been wiped etc but close up lots of built up grime and was quite smelly

Location was great and parking added bonus!

location was fantastic very clean , parking was great

sofa in living area uncomfortable and very small

The apartment was lovely and spacious. The private parking was a bonus. The beds were extremely comfortable, so had a lovely nights sleep.

great place to stay nr whitby town 10 minute walk , place it self was modern and clean

Lovely and calm, very clean and well placed.

Nothing

Nice living/dining
Good equipped kitchen
Private Parking
Walking distance to city center
Very professional information (checkin, location, ect.) provided

Very tiny bathroom, lack of hooks for towels
Matrace in one of the bedrooms worn out

Accommodation very good .

No terrestrial TV.
Shower cubical required some tlc.
Overall everything else was OK.

The couches (2)in the property were both badly stained and wall in shower was black with dirt needs re grouting.I also left a dressing gown in property which disappeared after I left and communication with staff to try and get it back was so unprofessional they didn’t give a dam and I didn’t get it back!

Absolute not value at all extremely uncomfy tiniest of sofas which was dirty broken toilet seat ended up with bad back due to bed and sofas came home a day earlier due to pain

We had a really good stay here, lots of nice finishing touches, plenty of kitchen utensils to use and a nice surprise to have some milk etc to use! Only 1 downside from the whole house and that was the sofa it was VERY uncomfortable and a struggle to fit 2 adults on 1 sofa.
Great location only a 10 min walk into the town and the pub half way is a definite stopping point you need to make.
Overall really happy and would book again. Thank you!!

The location was good, opposite the harbour and close to the old town.

There is NO designated parking space, we would never have booked had we know. Luckily we did manage most of the time to park opposite, all the parking behind the archway is designated to the flats there. The flat info book was generic so unhelpful. Almost all of the shower room's grouting was black or very badly stained - not pleasant !! The pale blue settees were very stained. Really suprised by these conditions, so have taken photos to alert others.
There were lots of problems with 'Host & Stay' Trying to get verification, multiple emails and phone calls

The flat is in a good loaction, in the old town close to the harbour. But there is NO designated parking space, we would never have booked had we know.

Lovely clean flat in Whitby. Very clear instructions and responsive to questions.

We had a nice break. A little out of the town but a nice walk in alongside the harbour and only takes around 10 minutes. The accommodation on the whole was great but the sofa and bed could probably do with looking at for replacement soon. Overall a nice stay, 8/10.

Bright and modern apartment with good facilities plus parking space.
Milk, coffee, condiments all supplied plus dishwasher tablets. Rain shower was an unexpected bonus!
Only downside is the sofas which were unbelievably uncomfortable.

Short walk into Whitby.

a lot of traffic noise, on evening think it is on boy racer circuit repeat laps.

Great base to explore Whitby and the surrounding areas
The bonus of a car parking space

property was clean , comfortable & decorated to a high standard & great location ! will definitley recommend .

Everything was ok for us .

The apartment was lovely and has everything we needed.
However parking spaces aren’t clearly marked for the apartment we stayed in.
Also within the apartment information say the check is 12pm but every communication we had from host and stay said 10am.
But the stay was lovely and host and stay provided us with lots of information about the area

Great location and a view of the Abbey........... The car parking space is a real bonus as parking in Whitby is a nightmare.
Free parking on the road opposite tho ( if you can find a space). We'll definitely be back!

Convenient location with on site parking

Very well presented place only one downside when they say check out at 10 they mean 9.45!!!!!!!! Very rushed

very good stay overall.

Poor communication as unable to access wifi and tv

Be My Guest

Once we had paid for the stay we were directed to an out sourced damage deposit website.
No Mention of this in the booking. Choice of paying £250 refundable deposit or £25.00 non refundable damage waiver.
We tried to call the firm re check in details but were diverted to a call centre who were very vague. We only received the code at 12 noon on the day of arrival
The Wi-Fi was weak and kept dropping out. We could not use our laptops and had a 2 year old with us who is easily entertained with CBBC. It would have been nice to chill in the evenings with a film. Very disappointing.
Advice to next guest, bring an HDMI cable and a fire stick.
No Dishwasher tablets. Weak bin bags that split over the kitchen floor.
1 inch of dish soap. Cheap loo rolls. No hand soap in the bathroom or toiletries.
However the décor is lovely, we slept well, parking great. location great very easy to find.
Sofas not comfortable and not enough room for 4 to sit comfortably.

Great location and property.

Location very good

Couldn’t get terrestrial television. Couldn’t get cold water in shower

We had a great couple of days here. On arriving we did have an issue that someone had parked in the allocated parking space we should have had, however the team were quick to recommend some nearby places we might find free parking (they’re not based on site so could only suggest we leave a polite note on the car which did get it sorted for us in the end).
The property itself was plenty big enough for us as a family of 4 (only mistake we made was letting the kids choose their bedroom as the one they chose had a much comfier bed!). The kitchen was nice and clean and had plenty of crockery for us (maybe some kid friendly stuff too would be good).
We were out and about in Whitby most of the day but we did find the road outside very busy and noisy in the evening and in the night. The sofas were not particularly comfy to sit on, but for a quick bit of TV watching in the evening they were okay. Also watch your legs on the radiator in the bathroom if you need the loo when the heating is on!

style was great. location and price good. parking included which was also a real bonus .
shower superb

sofas x2 way too small. v uncomfortable.
toilet seat not working as it should - doesn’t stay up. toilet roll holder broken
new frying pan required - none stick

Nicely presented and plenty of facilities for cooking. The shower was lovely and hot, the beds were comfy it was a pleasant place to stay.

Nothing

great location

problem with allocated car park space-someone parked in the space

The location of the property was ideal only a 5-10 minute walk into town and the parking space was a great bonus. Accessibility was great all ground floor for our pram and many baby items! Very clean with all the home comforts we needed I.E wifi/washing machine/Netflix etc

The mattresses were very soft and spongy so didn’t get a great night sleep, but this might be personal preference as we prefer a firm mattress.

We stayed for three nights. Had a wonderful time. Apartment was spotless and well equipped. Would definitely come back again. I would definitely recommend the old sweet shop as a little jewel.

We arrived to find the cleaner had left mid clean. Towels left, bin bags left, unmade beds. Kerry was very friendly. They couldn't get another cleaner so we had to move apartments. Then move back again the next day. Host and Stay refused to even partially refund. Also a surprise 'insurance' fee after booking. Unclear check out time. This was supposed to be a lovely surprise birthday celebration for my husband. Completely ruined.

Nice but just missing the finishing touches that you get from some air bnbs, the sofas are really not that comfortable to chill out on at night and only really fit one person on it, shower was a bit grubby and there’s no shelves in the bathroom to put anything, the car parking spaces are not clearly marked at all in fact a few people where struggling to see especially in the dark,
Apart from that very good haha!

lovely and clean and comfortable. everything you need for an independent stay from crockery to washing machine.

nothing

Great location and nice modern ground floor apartment with everything you need.

An ideal base for exploring Whitby everything was walkable . Car parking which was a bonus . Lots of lovely eateries locally . Fell into the comfortable beds exhausted every night !!!

Location was great , a little out of the way but not too far and on the flat which was important to us. Parking again brilliant.
The apartment was well set out with everything we needed. Host and Stay were informative all the way through.

appliances worked well, location was great. parking was good. easy to walk from property into Whitby.

steps to front door - no handrail. no instructions for washing machine. no drawers in master bedroom.

The location was great, the place was brill, would stay there again

The only criticism was the toilet pan was yellow, clean but yellow so I went out and bought a bottle of bleach and put it in the pan, an hoir5later it was brilliant white, ask cleaners to use bleach, otherwise everything was spot on

everything you need, even down to a pint of milk on arrival . huge bonus is the parking spot which is a huge bonus especially this time of year.

The sofas are not very comfortable, a couple of recliners would be nice after long days walking about visiting the local sights.

Excellent location in terms of a town walk.
The kitchen is nice.

Having stayed in other local apartments/cottages in the same area we were not hugely impressed. The living room area is very uncomfortable as the small sofas are not suitable for relaxing on in the evening, they were also a little dirty so we didn’t entertain it. (We are not snobby either) A little frustrating after a long day with the kids and wanting to relax on the sofa.
Not a big issue but it would of been better if the bedrooms had TVs. The window blinds were snapped and damaged upon arrival so informed the owner.

We have family in Whitby so come here all of the time but unfortunately will not be coming back to this apartment.

A great apartment, close to all amenities and a short walk into the town centre. The apartment was spotless and well equipped with lots of room. It was located on roadside but the traffic noise was minimal and we didn't really notice it (apart from the odd boy racer with a noisy exhaust).

Parking was awful, someone had parked in our space so we ended up blocking them in and leaving a note on our dashboard to call us if we needed to move. They were told by the cleaner (apparently) that no one was expected in our apartment and they could park there as their space was impossible to park in as it was so small for their car. We couldn't of got in it either! They did offer to move but were happy for us to leave it where it was. I called the main number to ask them about the parking and was told that there was on-street parking available. We only ever book places to stay with allocated parking and when we looked (when walking into town) there were no spaces anywhere (even at night!).

Location was perfect, it was a short pleasant walk in to the town, and was lovely and quiet at night .
Beds were comfy, nice clean linen and towels .
Shower was great , really good water pressure.
Also the kitchen was extremely well equipped.

The sofas in the lounge area were very uncomfortable!
( A minor problem!!)

lovely holiday apartment in a perfect location

nothing every thing was perfect and would definitely stay again

it had everything needed, iron, ironing board, hairdryer, teabags, sugar, coffee, etc etc etc. everywhere was very clean. was close to the abbey, harbour and beach

The ‘large double’ room is 2 single beds and therefore isn’t the most comfortable as there is a gap in the middle. The parking space was also used when we arrived and we got blocked in twice.

clean, comfortable and everything we needed

n/a

Clean

Bathroom too small. T V too complicated and could not get live BBC or ITV. Longish walk to restaurants and town.

It was really simple to gain access, and communication ahead of arriving was prompt and helpful. The accommodation was really comfortable, great use of space, comfy beds and lovely shower. Really lovely to have milk tea and coffee available when we arrived. We really enjoyed walking to a spot to crab with the children in the evening.

As the accommodation slept 4 people, it was a shame that there were missing wine glasses and small tumblers. It would have been nice to have had a chopping board and salad bowl.

Clean and comfortable with everything we needed for a couple nights. Parking was a huge bonus and the very short walking distance to town was great. Views of the abbey too. Will be recommending and will absolutely be booking another stay.

the location is an easy walk to the town and there is free parking. it’s very clean and well stocked. it’s modern and well presented.

the sofa’s were a little small with 4 people staying.

bed was comfortable, not too far out of town, dish washer, washing machine

tv not working properly, after complaining, eventually had email on last day Ariel was not working, was unable to access programmes advertised.
sink in bath room very small, no shelves on that or showers , to put shampoo etc, an issue for someone with mobility issues.

fantastic location, lovely clean property that was very comfortable to stay in

nothing

Reasonable size and facilities
Own parking

A couple of the bedside lights did not work.
Bathroom could have been better laid out
Parking instructions not clear, rather tight
Some information different in visitor book and what was emailed eg check out time

clean and well appointed.

very noisy from the property above and road noise.

The apartment is in a great location! It is only a few minutes away from the main centre and shops. Inside it is lovely and just as the pictures show.
We loved our stay and will hopefully come back in the future.

The only thing that caused us a bit of trouble was the parking. We did have a parking spot but getting in and out of it was hard/sometimes impossible due to other people parking where there wasn’t a parking place.

Good location just a short walk into the old town, parking space behind cottage in courtyard is a bonus.
Brilliant kitchen with dish washer and washing machine. 2 good sized bedrooms.

one bedroom has no wardrobe but has drawers and the other has wardrobe no drawers. We were ok as their was only 2 of us we had a bedroom each and we shared the wardrobe. The bedroom with the wardrobe only has little tables next to the bed. proper bedside drawer units would be better .

The property is a great location for Whitby which is only a 10 min walk at a steady pace into town. Ideal having a parking space too, although that is a little tight for bigger cars.

The bathroom felt a little cramped, but considering you are only in there for washing and using toilet it serves its purpose.

Spotlessly clean, furnished to a very high standard, with a full kitchen and extras you wouldn’t expect (Nespresso machine, washing machine and dishwasher), reasonably priced with a private parking space and in a great location…about 5 minute walk into Whitby.
Greeted with a fresh bottle of milk in the fridge.
The property is on a main road, and there is some road noise when in the kitchen/lounge but the bedrooms are set towards the back of the property where the noise isn’t noticeable at all.
Would highly recommend and definitely stay again!

The location was great for the centre of Whitby.
The clean and modern apartment was easy to live in for three nights.

The shower was a bit tricky.

Clean and close to the town. Great to have a parking space in Whitby

The sofa’s were a little small

Pristine condition. spotlessly clean. Great location and good parking.

shower room a bit small

great location, parking, and clean

tv and Wi-Fi. Didn’t spoil as was out

Great location but on a busy road so you can hear the cars drive by.

Parking space was convenient and the wifi was good.

The cottage was beautiful and comfortable the location is really good for the town , kitchen was well equipped
Shower was amazing

Not much storage in one of the bedrooms ok if going for a few days but would struggle for a week maybe a few bedside drawers instead of a table .

perfect place to stay a few minutes walk from the main part of Whitby, lovely apartment. incredibly clean and great communication from the host. would reccommend

Lovely stay. Perfect location.

A comfortable apartment

It would have been useful to have known on arrival into the property that the TV didn't work. Just a note on the table would have sufficed. There's an instruction book for the Samsung TV but no reference at all to the wireless connection in order to get any service e.g. passwords were required, etc. We only found out that it didn't work due to a fire at the mast when I telephoned Guest Relations next day.
There was no heating on & the only instructions regarding this refer to the hand held thermostat & the need to turn the dial clockwise to increase the heating. However, there is no dial on the thermostat. On phoning Guestb Relations we were told to find the boiler & check that as to whether the heating was turned on. It wasn't. It's all very well pointing out in the property manual & on the e-mail received prior to arrival which energy company provides the gas & electricity but it would be more useful to visitors to know how to control it!
Although we didn't arrive with muddy boots ( but if you did you were asked to leave them outside) it would be useful to have a boot tray just inside the door.

Short distance to harbour area and Abbey.

We provided our own breakfast. The location was very good but traffic noise in sitting room / kitchen was loud but off course we realise you cant have everything 100 %.

We couldn't control the heating and that left us a bit colder than we would have liked.
Why can't ordinary TV be part of your package. Freesat / Freeview and Sky would be brilliant. Even without the SKY it would be much better for us.

Great location and aesthetically pleasing but there were some issues and I wouldn't stay again. Kitchen was lovely but no dishwasher tablets which was frustrating. In one room the mattress desperately needs (Website hidden by Airbnb) has a body sized dip in the middle and isn't comfortable. There was a dirty plate in the cupboard and the shower grouting needs cleaning. There were issues with the car being blocked in and the WiFi wasn't working. Whilst these are all fairly small issues, for the price we paid we felt disappointed.

The apartment was brilliant , clean , and the location was great too.

the heating controls could of been more easy to understand.

Spacious, comfortable beds, very clean, the shower ideal location.

Couldn't connect to wi-fi

Clean tidy close to centre

Bathroom a bit small shower door opening inwards and tv didn’t work properly

Great location, very well equipped, extremely clean

Parking was a little tight

Stayed in this apartment for 4 nights, could not fault it! It was spotlessly clean, spacious living area, 2 beautiful bedrooms with comfy beds, fully equipped kitchen. The bathroom was small but the shower was fantastic. The location is amazing with a short, flat walk into the centre of town. The parking space was a real plus as parking in whitby is generally expensive and a bit of a nightmare. The apartment has its own designated parking space in a very safe car park to the rear of the property! We will be back!

Couldn't fault anything at all.

Stayed in this apartment for 4 nights, could not fault it! It was spotlessly clean, spacious living area, 2 beautiful bedrooms with comfy beds, fully equipped kitchen. A clean, well located and nicely decorated place near the heart of Whitby. we had a nice stay but overall not the best value and quite small rooms throughout.

Comfy bed

More wardrobe space

The flat is lovely, perfect location for Whitby. It was very clean and the communication was great. The only small issue I have is we were provided with very few bathroom amenities. For example there were only two toilet rolls for four people over a three nights stay. Just something that could be improved. On the other hand the kitchen was really well equipped.

Great location to use as a base for exploring Whitby. Car space a little tight! Clean and well proportioned place. Would revisit.

This ground floor two bedroom apartment has a great location about 10 minutes flat walk into the town. The area itself is quiet and and felt very safe. The apartment is very smart. It has two bedrooms one contains a king size double bed, which looks as though it can split into twins if required and a queen double, bother are at the back of the property overlooking the courtyard where you can park your car in the designated space. The kitchen contains an oven, hob unit, fridge-freezer and dishwasher along with microwave, kettle, toaster and coffee machine. There is also a large amount of crockery and cutlery as well a cleaning materials and tea & coffee etc. There was even some fresh milk in the fridge for us.
Both rooms share a bathroom which contains the toilet, a small washbasin and a big shower which had brilliant water pressure. All the towels and bed linen are also supplied. The standard of finish is excellent and our party of four had an excellent two night stay. I would have no hesitation in recommending this apartment to you, if fact this was the first time our friends from Edinburgh had stayed in an AirB&B. They were so impressed they will now look for others whenever they go away.
Well done to team, keep up the good work

Good location to explore area. View of Abbey from front door. Good facilities. Tight parking.

Small bathroom & sink but we had all we needed.

Good location near to town

No outdoor space

Great place to stay, can recommend it !

Clean and tidy flat with everything we needed for our stay, about a 10 minute walk from the swing bridge and the town centre, parking for one mid sized car in an allocated space to the rear. Plenty of hot water and nice and warm if the heating is needed ,the flat is on a fairly busy road, but the traffic noise wasn’t intrusive. I would come back!

Excellent cleanliness, very welcoming,

The Old Sweet Shop is a fabulous place to stay. It is as lovely as it looks on the pictures and very spacious and spotlessly clean. It has everything it says in the description and more. The tea, coffee, sugar and even milk in the fridge was a welcome surprise when we arrived after our drive up. The private parking at the back is a bonus as parking seems very limited in the area. The apartment is all on one level (even though there are a few steps up to the front door), and very warm and comfortable. Within easy walking distance of the town centre, it's an ideal home from home while you explore. The only thing we missed was normal terrestrial channels on the TV, even though there was Netflix and all the catch apps, but maybe that's just us being old fashioned. All in all, we would definitely recommend a stay here. Fabulous!

This cottage is near the town, so clean and everything is provided, nice quality bedding and very easy to make it home for the time we were there, parking available, all in all a great find

Lovely apartment very clean, stylish interior and great location.

Modern & clean apartment & well placed to explore Whitby. We had request the king bed to be split into 2 singles however this hadn’t been arranged as there was an issue with the bed. The house manager did offer for maintenance to come the morning after & he was very polite & helpful (thank you Callum). Would absolutely recommend & return.

Lovely apartment in a great location by the harbour. Very clean and modern.

Small but cosy, great location to explore Whitby and surrounding areas, walkable distance to town centre etc;
Would definitely return :)

Very nice

Great spot - very high quality finish to everything, well furnished, great communications from host, and just a 10 minute walk to the old town

Good location and very nice apartments. Would recommend!!

Very stylish and very clean flat. A great base for visiting Whitby and surrounding area. Communication was very quick and clear. Thanks for a great short stay.

A lovely, fresh and stylish apartment in the heart of Whitby. Good location to the centre and to the beautiful Abbey too. Sparking clean with great attention to detail which is most reassuring in these times. Quiet and peaceful at night which made for a restful sleep. Parking is a bonus! Good and prompt communication. Thanks to you all for a lovely stay!

Gorgeous apartment. Really clean throughout, great facilities and utensils to cook and clean if needed. The beds are extremely comfy. Fabulous location, about a 15 minute walk to the beach front and you can see the abbey from the front window! Will definitely be back!

Home Truths

The Old Sweet Shop is located on a new development which can be tricky to find. We will send over a Google Pin of the exact location prior to arrival - we recommend referring to this to help you find the property.

If you are travelling with more than one vehicle, you will need to park in a pay and display carpark or nearby free parking. Full details would be provided prior to arrival.

The property doesn't have a bathtub but it does benefit from a walk in shower.
