Shops started opening up all around the country, and despite being popularised in seaside towns where they are able to catch and batter the freshest fish, the first fish and chippy was actually opened in LONDON!

Situated next on the North Sea’s coast, this gorgeous resort town is popular with holidaymakers for its family friendly entertainment. Take a walk around the Sea-Life centre or just relax on the South Bay Beach. Whatever you do, you will work up an appetite!

Trenchers – Whitby
This 50-year-old restaurant is a real treat! Established in 1980, Trenchers has made a name for itself in the historic town of Whitby as being one of the best fish shops around. Even celebrity chef James Martin said it was his favourite chippy in the UK!
Need more convincing? You can’t argue with the locals, with a 4.5 star rating on TripAdvisor and Winner of the National Fish and Chip Awards in 2019, Trenchers really is the place to be!

Whitby is a great seaside town in Yorkshire, take a walk around the Gothic Whitby Abbey which was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s “Dracula”. There is nothing spooky about this town though, with spectacular views and great places to eat, making it the perfect place for a day visit.

Neptune Fish Restaurant – Seahouses
You don’t need to go all the way to the bottom of the ocean for this one, Neptune Fish Restaurant is thankfully landbased! If you want fish and chips to takeaway this is the place for you. This family-run chip shop has been serving the locals and tourists alike for 20 years.
They have friendly staff and a great seafront setting, making it easy to grab whilst you’ve already set up your towel on the beach.
If you would prefer to eat without the sand in your mushy peas, Neptune offers a large dine-in experience with enough room for the whole family.
Seahouses is a large village, which is close to attractions such as Alnwick castle. Take a trip on the Billy Shiel’s Boat tour to the Farne Islands or simply just take in the breathtaking views.
