Caedmon House is located on the East Cliff near the incredible Whitby Abbey. To get to the property, you pass through the grounds of the beautiful Grade II listed Abbey House, which was originally a monastic building until it was granted to the Cholmley family in 1541. Continue along the lively road until you reach the beautiful, blue flag West Cliff Beach which is lined with idyllic beach huts.

Whitby train station half a mile away on foot so villages and towns along the North Yorkshire coast can easily be reached via rail. There’s also a taxi rank in close proximity to the train station.
There are plenty of bus routes throughout Whitby. Hop on the X4 and you can visit beautiful coastal villages like Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Staithes. The X93 travels along the coast to Scarborough. The 95 route features plenty of quaint villages, such as Grosmont and Lealholm.

Fabulous accommodation in an amazing position next to Whitby abbey.
Fantastic views over the bay, especially striking at sunset/sunrise.
Everything was clean and tidy and the place was super spacious. The accommodation is premium, great location and everything you need home from home! The views from every window are amazing.
Preciosa ubicación. Maravillosa casa
Firstly, what a location! You arrive wondering how lucky you are to be neighbours with the famous Whitby Abbey!! The cottage is newly renovated, modern but still with so much character & oh so cozy!! The carpets were lush!! Each bedroom well thought of with everything you need for a good nights sleep. Linen, pillows and beds were really comfortable & warm. Loved the walk in shower & plenty of hot water for a bath! Kitchen well equip & the views from every living space is just pure bliss. The horses grazing & galloping in the field overlooking the harbour was my favourite part of the morning with a cuppa coffee sitting in the window sill. Smart TV set up with Sky, Netflix etc a real treat especially with some very cold & wet nights. Ample parking for 2 vehicles. We have stayed in many AirBnBs and I can honestly say, this is definitely one of our favourite. We look forward to returning to Caedmon House next year!
The property is really special, lots of history , set in the grounds of the Abbey, the view from the kitchen window is beautiful morning and night, it is spotlessly clean , the decor is beautiful and the beds are comfortable and the location is perfect.
Beautiful property. Amazing location. Wonderful holiday
Place is great and in a fantastic location for Whitby. Very good hosts, prompt responses when needed.
Wi-if was poor
A fantastic short break in a great property overlooking town and harbour, right by the abbey - our party of six had a great time and loved this well situated accommodation - highly recommended!
Brilliant place to stay, perfect location, beautifully decorated and a must for a family of 6 and a dog! We have already given the details to friends and family!
Quality of premises and fascilities. Location.
Beds could have been comfier
Great looking house in the grounds of the abbey. Well decorated and clean, pet friendly. You are on top of the hill so the steps will keep you fit. So quiet in the evening from 5pm onwards.
WiFi was poor, not reliable. Outside space for the dog not enclosed.
Wonderful location, Fabulous views.
Peaceful and quiet.
WiFi was tricky to get and intermittent.
When we arrived there were no table & chairs to sit on, I phoned Stay at North Yorkshire & they said there was n
The views were brilliant
Internet intermittent, upstairs shower control stiff. Hob and oven seemed to have low power.
Suggestions for useful additions, oven gloves, large pan and ladle, hooks for coats and towels.
I liked all you could see...inside and out!!!!
Even has a garden to sit in with tables and chairs..mthe key lock is a great idea too.
Everything about this place is just fabulous
The location.the house..right next to the abbey at the top of the 199 steps.beauriful views from every window!!! All you need for a really great break away
We visited Whitby with family, and this location could not have been better. It says ‘overlooking’ the Abbey... this is an understatement, you have amazing views and you actually have to go through the archway of the Abbey grounds to access the properly. There is parking for 2 cars and a garden area.Inside is lovely, newly refurbished and very well kept. The bedrooms are specious and there’s an end-suite, main bathroom and a downstairs loo, so plenty of space for a family of 6. I would definitely book here again! The only point to mention is that you have to walk down the steps into Whitby, but it’s not too bad, we did it with a toddler and a 70 year old, but there are quite a lot of steps alternatively, you could drive round n down into Whitby and just park the car up ( we did this one day too so we could take chairs, windbreak etc to the beach. There are some lovely restaurants in Whitby, and of course lots of fish and chips!
We arrived on Monday 24th May 6 adults celebrating my husbands 75th birthday. From start to finish we had a fabulous time.We had the key code sent via text and email..no problems whatsoever...on entry we all smiled and were really pleased with the house.everything was spotless.decor was really lovely homely and really welcoming.the beds were really comfy...the bathrooms were fully equipped with towels and shower gels tooyou cant go wrong at Caedmon House..even the lovely gent next door lent us two chairs to sit in the garden as there was only four....We walked down into Whitby from the house which took about 10mins and the taxi back was £6ishI love this place and hopefully will be back..Im going to let everyone know just how fab it is
Clean, family friendly in a luxury setting.
Very well laid out and very spacious. Nicely decorated and furnished.
Having to leave.
Great apartment in perfect location.
This was one of the best places I’ve stayed. The accommodation was superb, with its modern, apartment living feel. The bedrooms were spacious, as was the shower! Private parking next to the property made life very easy. The hill top location near the abbey, with views of Whitby from every window, was simply amazing. We also all enjoyed the friendly local brewery and cliff top walks just a five minute walk away. Sian at Guest Relations was also really helpful. Can’t recommend this cottage enough!
It’s a must stay! Prefect location with great views of Whitby and the Abbey. House was very clean and plenty of space for 6 people. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone seeking a weekend get away to the coast
An excellent place to stay, great views of the abbey and the harbour. The town is walking distance. The space itself was very comfortable, stylish and well equipped. Would definitely recommend
Lovely modern accommodation for a well deserved pre lockdown break. Struggled to find it at first, but if you read the instructions correctly it really isn’t difficult. Situation right in the Abbey grounds the views are amazing. Highly recommend this place.
Overall a great stay, welcomed by an exceptionally clean house. The views from the house & surrounding areas on all sides are stunning. Great house layout, good use of space. Checked in/out with ease & good communication throughout.
A beautifully situated house with stunning views, lovely furnishings and well equipped. Parking in Whitby is a bonus
Best pace I’ve ever stayed
We’ve had a lovely stay at Caedmon House. Great location next to the Abbey, but please be mindful of the 199 steps down to the town. The house has a modern interior with white crisp bed linen and comfortable beds. The fantastic views from the kitchen and lounge windows looks out over Whitby Harbour and the Sea.
We had a fantastic meal at the michelin star fish restaurant ‘Star in the Harbour’ and award winning fish & chip restaurant ‘Trenchers’, both are worth a visit.
I would definitely recommend Caedmon House to anyone looking for a stylish modern place in a great location.
Location was brilliant, away from the busyness of the town and with great views. House was clean and comfy, and lots of room.
Two of the extractor fans didn't work, and the front door was stiff and noisy. They could do with adding to the kitchen equipment, there was a lack of cooking equipment.
What an amazing place to stay! The house was even more beautiful inside all amenities within! The most fantastic views from all windows!! Being in the abbey grounds was such a privilege. Absolutely perfect spot from which to explore Whitby, easy access both driving and walking! We were given very accurate directions to find the property and a video too which was very helpful and thought ful!
Information booklet inside told you all about the area, and hosts easy to get in touch with!
Absolutely fantastic stay will definately be back!!
Excellent location in the grounds of the Abbey. Views of Whitby are absolutely stunning, from all windows. The early morning dog walk was a delight, walking around the Abbey grounds admiring the sea views. The house has been refurbished to a very high modern standard. Beautiful large bedrooms and bathrooms. Everything and more you’d want in a kitchen. Warm and cosy lounge. The cottage was very clean. There were 4 of us and a dog but plenty of room for 6. Easy to park and has a wonderful private garden with great views too. A 10-15 minute walk into Whitby down and up the 199 steps. If you find steps difficult then you can drive down or take the tourist bus which stops at the Abbey.
The living room, kitchen and dining area are located on the first floor, so you will need to take the stairs upon entering the property.
The drive through the Abbey grounds archways can be quite tight, so take care when approaching in a larger vehicle.
There are some sloping ceilings on the top floor, so please be sure to mind your head when looking out of the windows.
