Neighborhood
Known as the jewel in the heart of North Yorkshire, Richmond is a market town with plenty of charm. Despite the many cafes, bistros, restaurants, pubs and bars, little has actually changed in Richmond throughout the centuries. There is plenty of history for you to discover. Enjoy a live show at The Georgian Theatre, which is actually the oldest theatre in Europe. Visit Richmond Castle which has an interactive museum on site so it’s definitely worth a visit!

Just a stone’s throw from the property, you’ll find The Station. This gorgeous Old Victorian Railway Station has been given a new lease of life with a mix of artisan shops, a cinema, an art gallery and a café bar. You can sample beer brewed in house from Richmond Brewing company. The café bar also won the best café in the Herriot Awards recently so you’re in for a real treat.

Richmond is great for walking. There is a great river walk to Easby Abbey which is a free site to visit from English Heritage. Another beautiful walking area is Richmond Falls which is just down the hill from the marketplace. When the weather is nice, we recommend having a picnic at The Batts.

Getting Around
Darlington train station is 12 miles from Richmond and has great links to cities like Newcastle, Manchester and Edinburgh. A number of connecting routes can also be found from these stations so getting to other locations around the UK could not be easier.

Richmond also has great bus routes. The X26 and X27 travel from Darlington through to Colburn, with stops in Catterick. The scenic Dalesbus has routes to Ribblehead, Hawes and Bentham.

The Green Door is a well presented and cosy cottage that has everything you need for a short stay in Richmond. It's in a great location directly off the main market square surrounded by shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. Parking is close by and a parking permit was provided for the council run car parks, which was a nice touch.<br/>A little frustrating that there were no coffee pods provided for the Nespresso Vertuo machine, If I had known that there was one in the cottage, I would have brought my own pods!

A nice little cottage in the marketplace.<br/>really convenient for all the restaurants and bars in the town.<br/>We enjoyed our stay at the green door, the cottage was clean and tidy with all the bits you need for a short stay.<br/>if I was being picky, I'd say there needed to be more radiators (there are none in the kitchen) so the kitchen was always cold.<br/>Overall it was a nice place to stay.

The Green Door is perfectly positioned for wandering around Richmond, it’s absolutely beautifully decorated and beautifully clean. <br/>There’s particularly lovely bedding and the bed is super comfortable

Apartment was attractive and in a good location.<br/>We could not open front door without considerable difficulty. The door was very badly warped and required a lot of force to open atall. I could not open or shut it without my husbands help. Therefore I could not gain access without my husband with me. It is a safety issue. We reported the situation to Host and Stay several times ,nothing was done. Also the main radiator in the lounge did not work. It was cold. A maintenance person came I believe. We were then informed by email it didn't work. Not helpful atall.<br/>The front door situation ruined the break for us.We have received no apology. I hope to get the £250 damage deposit back immediately. <br/>I have used booking. Com many times before and always had wonderful service and support. Not so with Host and Stay.<br/>Sincerely Linda Munro

The cottage was beautuful, very clean and comfatable.<br/>The alleyway takes you straight into the centre.Pubs, shops and restaurants all in walking distance.<br/>The carpark was too far away. It was a struggle with luggage and a dog.

The cottage was lovely and the location was great. The coffee machine and milk frother were a nice touch.<br/>The parking wasn't the best around the area. The heating wasn't well explained to work this.

The property was well located, spacious and well appointed.<br/>The property was dark, had no outside space with challenging parking. In addition it stank of dogs and was not particularly clean, with poor maintenance.

Beautiful cottage - styled so nicely and very comfortable. Amazing bath and great bed with very nice bedding, slept so well! Perfect location in the middle of town, so convenient. Live music from the pub on Saturday night was loud but still slept through it and it didn’t disturb my baby :)

lovely home from home place, it was easy to find, we was a little unsure about the parking situation as there are numerous parking areas around but some are for disc and some are pay and display, or card holders (which the cottage provide to access free parking) there are local 2hour parking but the main one which you need to use is the nuns car park which is a long stay place which will suit the holiday stay people. <br/>the cottage is presented lovely, spacious little haven, the bed was lovely and comfortable and helped have a good night sleep, the bath room facilities was brilliant and suit anyone's bathing neds, whether they want a soak in the bath or a quick shower. The living room area was cosy and suited us on a evening as was chilled out.<br/>access to the market was right on our door step with plenty of little shops near by.

16/08/2023

The house was lovely, convenient to the centre, shops, pubs, etc. A 10 minute walk to the river. Very clean and comfortable and had everything we needed.<br/>Hidden charges - the booking.com confirmation said we could use a credit card number as security for the damage deposit. This was not the case, we could either transfer £250 and be charged £10 admin fee for doing so, or we could purchase a damage waiver for £25. This should have been made clear when booking.<br/>Parking permit - this was out of date so we couldn't use it <br/>The gutter above the front door was leaking.

18/07/2023

We were actually shocked at how nice this place was. There were no negatives whatsoever.<br/>It is beautifully decorated, the bed and furniture are as comfortable as can be, the bathroom is perfect for both bathers and showerers. There's even dog bowls and a really nice pub next door!<br/>Just a couple of things: there is no two-pin bathroom electrical socket for shavers and electric toothbrushes. <br/>The parking pass does not work for the market square. You can only park there after 6 and before 8am. Other times you need a disc for 'Disc Parking' - something I wasn't familiar with which led to me receiving a ticket.<br/>Getting that parking ticket in the Market Square. Everything else was perfect.

The whole house was very dark<br/>The sky tv had bad reception . Kept going off. The bedroom felt small and enclosed. You could not get out of bed without banging your head on ceiling as im 6'4""<br/>Tried other side of bed but found it difficult to sleep. The bedroom seemed to have a smell of cigs. We came home a day early . We booked dovedale hotel in cleethorpes for 2 days which was good

01/06/2023

we loved the style and finish of this property. It was presented beautifully. The location was also excellent, down a side alley but essentially it couldn’t have been more perfect. A hop skip and jump from the square.<br/>The blind in the bedroom was broken and looked to have been plastered over with masking tape and zip ties. Meaning natural light was the wake up call. Would recommend fixing this as summer approaches. A TV in the bedroom would have been a huge plus but again not essential. Very minor things and didn’t effect our amazing stay.

31/05/2023

Beautifully furnished, well equipped house in the centre of Richmond with all amenities nearby. Great base for touring the wider region. Watch out for parking as the market square is disc parking and not permit parking. Easy to unpack the car at the house but then car needs to be moved to a permit area.

Steve

27/04/2023

Amazing property and great location.<br/>Parking instructions werent clear around where the permit could be used. A simple map of the area shaded to show where it could be used would be an easy solution.<br/>There was a live band on at the pub next door which we was fine with but others may not have been

Megan

16/04/2023

The property had a lovely, cosy feeling to it. Everything was so clean, bed was comfortable, bathroom had heated flooring which was ideal for during the night! ?<br/>Location - next to a pub that plays loud music until late however didn’t ruin anything - we stayed up late watching movies anyway! But could be a pain to those who like an early night. <br/>Also had to ring to find the property, maybe a more in-depth description could be beneficial for future guests (which alleyway, in between where etc) :)

Eleanor

26/03/2023

This would have been ok but we were not advised the pub close by does loud music on a Saturday night. So bad we left just after 11pm. We did not get offered a refund for not being able to sleep there the second night. I recorded the music as it was really bad. I do believe we should have got a partial refund. I asked to be contacted by phone and messaged numerous times. This is totally unacceptable we should have been pre warned.

Well-furnished with excellent attention to detail, plenty of appliances and utensils in the kitchen, good communication from staff with easy instructions on how to locate the property and key. The bathroom was beautifully furnished and a treat to stay in. We will definitely be booking again.<br/>Parking was somewhat tricky, even with the kindly provided permit you could only stay two hours max. If you are staying longer than 2 nights it’s probably cheaper and easier to get a weekly permit than having to keep topping up the meter.

Great property in the middle of town. The bed was really comfy. The decor is beautiful. Free parking pass for 4 car parks.<br/>Not keen on the actual location...down a dingy, unmarked alleyway. Wouldn't have felt safe walking down it in the dark. The cleanliness wasn't the best - reported various things to the agent, so hopefully all will be sorted now.

23/05/2022

Lovely property furnished to a very high standard. Every room well thought out and full of character. Contained everything you could need for a short stay. Easy to access with a coded keysafe. Spotlessly clean and so cosy.<br/>It is difficult to find from the map given. There is very limited parking in the local area due to permits. It is off the market square but down a small unsigned alley. There is a parking permit in the cottage but it is unclear where it can be used. Parking in the market square requires a 2 hour residents disc so you cannot park. Quite difficult to unload a car and find somewhere suitable.

Tim

22/05/2022

Great location for a weekend break in Richmond. <br/><br/>Parking-wise we didn’t use the parking permit as we’d arrived hours before check-in (we were unable to get the permit early, which was slightly annoying). Nuns Close car park isn’t too far away and £15 for a week ticket makes parking easy enough.

Location is excellent as its just up an alley off the main square, so ideal for all the shops, pubs and amenities in the centre of Richmond. The cottage itself was spot on! It looks and feels like its been renovated to a really good spec. The living room is a good size, comfortable with a great TV and excellent wifi. Great bathroom - roll-top bath and great separate shower. Bedroom as with the rest of the cottage is excellent and furnished well - I would defo recommend and hope to return.<br/>Nothing to be honest - some might think the kitchen is a little small but it’s to be expected as it’s a cottage for two, but it has everything you need and is well fitted out.

Accommodation was superb, well equipped and very clean. We would definitely stay again and I will be recommending to family and friends. Great stay for a weekend in Richmond. The location is perfect, right in the centre. The living room, bathroom and bedroom are all lovely. If you do like to cook then please be aware that the kitchen is small. You will also need to bring milk etc (or buy from the coop round the corner) as there isnt a welcome pack. A parking permit is provided but if anyone cant walk far its worth noting the long stay is about 10 mins walk away. Overall a great choice but worth being aware of these few minor points.

Wonderful place for a break. The flat is well equipped, warm and comfy. It also has a nice big TV and fast wifi! We wouldn't hesitate to come here again. It is also right in the middle of Richmond, which is one of the most beautiful small towns in England. And even though it's central we found it to be a really quiet spot.<br/><br/>Be aware that you will have to park a short distance away, (parking permits supplied), but there are loading spaces nearby which are handy for getting luggage transferred over.

Very nicely furnished, clean and very comfortable. Nice central location in Richmond but lovely and quiet. <br/>Good wifi and nicely equipped kitchen- not that we did much cooking as lots of places to eat on the doorstep.<br/><br/>- Parking is limited and a bit confusing <br/>- Coffee machine looked lovely but unable to buy the right pods for it as you can only get them from Nespresso <br/>- Heating was all over the place- freezing or boiling on the preset program which I think someone previous to us had messed with.

This is a seriously good accommodation. We travel a lot- usually 4 and 5 star and we were pretty impressed. Stylish decor, fantastic sleeps in the most comfortable bed, good sized smart tv, super comfy sofa, location just off the main square, parking permit was handy too. (Note - you can’t use it in the square - it’s for blue parking zone car parks like Nunn’s Close). Kitchen had everything we needed for a full week stay. Shower was excellent - hot water and great pressure. Very dog friendly. <br/>Pub next door - extremely loud disco / techno music on the Saturday night til after 11pm. Not the fault of the property but ruined our last night.

The Green Door was a fantastic place, well located right in the centre of Richmond and ideally based for exploring the town and local area. It was dog friendly, and not too far away from the river. There are plenty of walks which can be done from the property. The place was well equipped and immaculately furnished. It is well positioned for access to the towns pubs and restaurants.

Laura

30/07/2021

Very nice apartment, well furnished and spacious. Tiny kitchen but that was no problem for our 2 night stay. There’s no outside space which is a shame and a bit trickier with a dog (due to Covid staycation popularity we couldn’t find anywhere with a garden). The location means it’s a bit of a challenge to unpack and pack your car, but it’s smack bang in the middle of the town so you do have the shops on your doorstep. The downside to that is it was a little noisy. Cute little place to spend a couple of days!

We enjoyed our two night stay at the Green Door, a mere step away from the market square in the beautiful town of Richmond (and only five minutes walk from the castle and from the falls on the River Swale). The house is small but beautifully furnished, with all the expected amenities including a multi channel TV system, tablet and WiFi. The bathroom and bedroom are lovely. We will certainly be back. Just one warning - close the kitchen door before using the toaster or opening the oven. The smoke detector is very sensitive!
