The accommodation was clean, comfortable and just about spot on. Ample parking. Quiet area and lovely locals! The location was ideal for what we had planned. Communication between the hosts and ourselves, timely, helpful and polite.
Difficult one - I think if we had seen how small the second bedroom was, we probably would not have booked; room for two beds, which were just about touching and nothing else! However, we were so glad we did, as everything else was just right for us and we WOULD book again.

The flat was super spacious and clean. Very modern decorations. The location was beautiful. Right outside the window you can see the hills and scenery. They also have onsite parking and is near a pub and shop.
The wifi didn't work at all during the stay. Asked the host and they didn't really do anything.

Great location in a beautiful village. Well equipped apartment and very clean. Easy check in/out with simple instructions. First family short holiday for our Springer spaniel. He was well behaved .

Auf den ersten Blick wunderschöne FeWo, allerdings keine Möglichkeit irgendwo Sachen zu lagern ( kein Schrank, kein Regal, so dass man aus dem Koffer leben musste). Im Bad absolut keine Ablagemöglichkeit, Handtücher nicht unter zu bringen.
Für Ausländer sehr schwierige Beschreibung wie man einloggt, wo man hin muss. In den Emails könnten die Angaben übersichtlich dargestellt werden, aber ellenlange Mails über Tage machen nur alles unklarer.
Einchecken erst möglich über Anruf, da die Anweisungen sehr unklar waren.
WiFi funktionierte nicht. Auf Nachfrage kam nur " tut uns leid". Dann nichts mehr über Tage. Besonders schlecht, weil privates Internet in dieser Gegend auch kaum geht ( je nach Anbieter). Entgegenkommen im Preis auch nicht, obwohl es nicht funktionierte.
Schade, denn die Wohnung als solche ist sehr schön!

There is no house number, so it is hard to find.
The Neighbors do not know that there are apartments to rent in the house beside. Not even in the Café and Supermarket.
Wrong code to enter the main door. The padlock is rusty and you cannot open it, even if you have the right code. We rented five appartments, that´s the whole house, but received only one key for the entrance door.
When we left, Host & Stay, who did not help us with our priblems at all, tried to ask for money for a set of spare keys because they could not find the keys, which were lying on the table !

Positives- the location is brilliant, a pub almost next door and then another over the road, the bluebell which I would recommend, great pub quiz. The flat was good value for money if you’re using it just as a base.

Cons - it’s basic, not very clean and you need to bring all extras like salt and pepper and I would recommend extra towels. The bed and sofa aren’t very comfortable. It can be noisy as there’s lots of flats in the building

High Force was ideally located to explore the area and beyond (we ventured up into Scotland as well as The Northumbrian Coast). The property was beautifully clean and well presented. The beds comfortable and good off road car parking. It was very quiet whilst we were there, with only one other apartment occupied during our stay. Really friendly locals, especially at the Blue Bell Inn.
Nothing to do with the property, but was very disappointed that none of the three local pubs served food in the evenings. Thank goodness that the small, well stocked Co Op store was close by.

I property in lovely position just in the village. Great panoramic views from front room.
No info ref getting in ie: didn't tell us how to a access key code. People who arrived on the following day had the same problem. Also no info on parking. Had to ask lady at the cafe next door. No kitchen bin. No loo brush and heaters not on despite telling them when we would arrive. However all was ok it soon warmed up but cold on arrival.

I'd located the property on Google but when we arrived outside we could not find No12.
No7.. no 10 but no 12. After wandering around the back by the pub I found some very neat signs to the rear entrance and then tried to get in.
I had been been sent 12 emails , one of them had key code details but which one??
I eventually found a space- age lock with a black screen which looked as if it needed a card to be swiped over it. Nope.. you touch it and a keypad illuminates. By now I was on the phone to Host & Stay who were talking me through it. Great - opened the outside door to 4 apartments and eventually found ours which had a keysafe by the door. I've used one of these before but by now the automatic hall light had gone off. So after more faffing about I got access to the 4 digit code. which I couldn't see in the dark..... Pause while I dug out my torch (I was a boy scout..) Once it was unlocked I had to open it. But you need two hands to do that and hold the torch. sigh..
Once we got in we tried the hot water .... none... found the switch for the heated towel rail. Switched on the the electric heaters (it was 8 degrees outside (and in!!) but could find no way to programme them. Eventually found the hot water switch which gave instant hot water.
We could not find any instructions but did find a tablet by the TV which said "Welcome" then went blank? Found the charger for that and switched it on. Once it had charged we had another go but we could find no useful info, just a form for feedback. So not much use to us at that stage.
The electric power shower was a complete waste of space. Fluctuating between boiling and freezing. I eventually found a setting which gave a sensible temperature but such a weak flow that I had to hold the head an inch away to rinse the soap.

We spent a weekend here and had a lovely time. The apartment is in a great location, and we had a walk in Slitt Woods and visited High Force Waterfall. We also visited the Chatterbox Cafe next door for a coffee. The apartment was relatively clean despite a few dog hairs. The bathroom light was a bit temperamental, there was only 1 loo roll and there wasn’t a cloth to wash the dishes with. Those are only small things and all in all we enjoyed our stay and had a lovely weekend exploring the area - thank you.

We stayed in Slit wood. The apartment above the guests had no consideration for us below and it was noisy. Banging about, the hosts were fabulous and stayed in regular contact
With us and tried to resolve even came out. Can’t fault them on there part just the neighbours had no respect.

Very clean and modern decor, great location to access the activities we had come to the area for … walking, outdoors. It was also very warm inside despite the changeable autumn weather.
The apartment was a little noisy at night. We were on the first floor and with it being an old building we could here the upstairs guests walking up / down and opening / closing drawers very clearly until late into the evening..

In a quiet area even on a main road. Main bedroom bed was very nice.
Single beds were very poor. One of the frames was broken. Better to only have one rather than say there is two as it would be extremely uncomfortable for two people to have been in that room at the same time. A far better single bed would be far more comfortable and appropriate for the room size. Stains on the mattresses.
No cleaning supplies for the kitchen, no bin bags. Pepper but no salt?! Little box of teas, waste of time. If you can’t be bothered to fill it then don’t bother leaving it out. One sachet of brown sauce?! Ridiculous.
Sofa and single chair in the living room was so uncomfortable. Pointless staying in an apartment if the furniture is going to be poor. Not relaxing at all. Poor WiFi as well, couldn’t use the smart tv as connection was poor.

The location was perfect for touring Weardale and Teesdale. Good parking.
Uncomfortable beds and chairs, no dining table, extractor in bathroom didn’t work, beds in twin room were broken and only 6 inches off the floor, kitchen equipment minimal (no scissors), ridiculously small rubbish bin in kitchen and none in bathroom or bedrooms, front door handle very wobbly, no welcome pack (just a box with a very random selection of about 6 tea bags and coffee sachets) or even a pint of milk. Listed as having a private patio but was just a field across the car park that hadn’t been mown (it was mowed the day we left).

Perfect location and beautiful surroundings. We thought the flat was great and really good value for money. We'd come back here if visiting the area again.

The location was easy to find. Great views of the open countryside. We did have our own designated parking space at the rear of the property. A very quiet village.
Too many stairs to negotiate, I'd have preferred a lower floor. The wifi was only available for a few odd hours a day, so no Netflix and only 5 TV channels. Interior inspired by IKEA.
There were no cleaning products on site but there is a small shop open til 8pm. No eateries open apart from 1 pub popular with bikers.

Room wasn't cleaned when we arrived at 4.20 pm .we had to wait until 5.30 pm before we could enter. The shower was faulty we tried all settings it was either freezing cold or boiling hot, we couldn't use it so had to leave early as to be able to shower at home.

I'm giving this stay four stars even though I didn't actually get to stay there, purely for the customer service.

After flying from Seattle I was "looking forward" to quarantining at Bowlees. I picked it because it looked clean, modern, was close to my family, and had wifi. Three days inside means nothing but work, work, work! To cut a long story short - the building has wifi problems. In fact there was no connection speed at all in the place. I came to learn that this is a known problem of the building. And perhaps no wifi isn't a deal breaker for everyone but it was for me. I had to drive back to the airport and quarantine there... after being up for 32 hours.

That said, Steph and the rest of the stay team were really communicative and very supportive of my situation, and have provided a full refund. Definitely 5 stars for the customer service.

The place itself would be perfect for a few days away provided you don't need internet access! Hopefully the property will sort this out soon.

Caitlin and her cleaning team were excellent and saved a lot of aggravation when we first arrived.
Having been assured there were no feathers used for bedding finding a duck feather quilt.
Was a bit short of kitchen equipment.

We enjoyed our stay in High Force. This comfortable and bright 2-bedroomed, 3rd floor apartment in a central village location was a great base for our 2-night stay. It provided a comfy bed, hot shower and a great compact kitchen if you plan on eating in. There are great walks from the doorstep, two pubs and a small convenience food store close by, so no need to drive anywhere if you don't want to.
For a 2-bed apartment the dining table in the High Force apartment is way too small. There were only 2 of us and it was more comfortable to sit on the sofa to eat, so definitely not practical for a family of 3 to 4.

Great apartment, really clean has all amenities required to cook dinners as there is only 1 pub in the village that serves food. There is a great co-op next door that sells everything you would need. Great walks in the area and fantastic views.

A bit of false marketing. Pictures were presented with washer in a property which we rally expected to have on spot. but as it turned out, it wasn't.
When we asked about it, we didn't receive any reply even thou the communication was coming trough from the host.
That's the second thing we didn't like. Poor customers service.

Absolutely amazing flat in a stunning location. The bathroom light was temperamental but not a real issue at all. Would certainly if you're after a country break. Great little pub which does nice food next door.

This apartment was a really wonderful surprise. Well equipped, located next to a pub, cafe and shop and easy access to the main road. It was immaculate and very comfortable. It is also pet friendly!
The location was very beautiful, and it's one of those apartments that you could easily revisit often.
Bedroom storage would have really beneficial, as opposed to having to use a suitcase. Having said that, it is a small detail.
The front door leading into the apartment block was heavy and closes fast. Caution and care needed!!

Great little flat in the centre of St Johns chapel. Two pubs, a cafe and small supermarket are just 5 minutes walk away. We found it the perfect base for visiting the surrounding villages/towns and close to local attractions such as high force waterfall.
Flat itself is cosy, with a small kitchen, if you wanted to stay in and cook for yourself. Bedroom was at the back of the building so very quiet, with a comfy bed. It had enough room to fit our travel cot and not feel squashed in.
Good communication with hosts and easy check in process. We really enjoyed our stay.

We had a nice stay - the flat is very well located, with doable day trips to Cumbria and Northumberland. We were able to visit Lindisfarne and Bamburgh, Hadrian's Wall and the eastern part of the Lake District in one trip.
The flat itself was OK - but in the communal hall area, especially near the entrance of the building, there was an absolutely putrid smell - mould of some kind. Also, the bathroom light had to be switched on three times for it to actually come on.
Other than that, all was OK.

Flat is per the listing, however we experienced three key issues during the stay:

1) the shower plug hole was blocked
2) the agency wasn’t very responsive to our messages, and didn’t resolve the plug hole issue despite it being reported on the first day of a 7 night stay
3) the WiFi was unusable primarily as the owner is using a Three mobile 3G/4G router instead of a fixed broadband connection

The agency did however accept a request after 71 hours to partially refund the cleaning fee and reimburse personal mobile data costs.

A lovely stay in a nice little apartment in the middle of the north Pennines. Within St John’s Chapel are two pubs which are very cosy, friendly and great value. There are also neighbouring villages which are car journeys away with pubs too. We found it difficult to find anywhere local other than the Golden Lion which were open or served food on Monday / Tuesday.

There is a coop within the village which has plenty of stock and there is also a lovely little cafe nearby.

There are so many walks nearby to this apartment and the apartment is in a good location if you wanted to go to the Lakes for the day as well.

High and Lower force are nearby and various other walks.

There are the odd pots, utensils etc. However, you would struggle to cook a proper meal within the apartment if this is your thing.

Overall, a fabulous trip and the two local pubs are really nice, especially the blue bell.

Communication throughout was brilliant and a very smooth check in.

The apartment was clean, however a few marks on carpets/flooring, nothing to worry about. (Could maybe do with a few touch ups to make it spotless).

Nonetheless, a nice apartment with parking behind the apartment.

The location was perfect and the apartment was clean and comfortable and well equipped for a long weekend. The village itself is great for hiking close by, cooling off with a paddle in the river, then a drink or too in the Blue Bell with its fantastic beer garden.

Good location for exploring the North Pennines. Good walks by the river direct from the property. Good private parking and supermarket a few yards away.
Poor wi-fi. A bit cramped. Outside seating some distance away. Very small table for eating, not sure how 4 people would manage. Noisy road if you have the windows open as we did during hot weather, but quiet at night in rear bedroom. High Force is 3rd floor so you need to be able to cope with stairs.

Wonderful views - especially from living room window. Excellent location - good cafe, well stocked village shop and pub serving good food all only a few doors away. Lovely village, lovely scenery. Modern, well decorated, comfortable flat with a very comfy bed (better than ours at home!).
Bin in bathroom would have been useful and a hand towel in kitchen.

Quiet location, parking available, nearby small shop for basics a few doors away. Pub a few doors away (but closed at the time re COVID).
No instructions regarding heating and no WiFi code left in property. Messages said information would be left in book - but there wasn't one, this may have been due to covid safety. However, I messaged owner and issues were resolved/questions were answered, which was great: so negatives were resolved at the time of stay.

Beautiful area, and the apartment is in a lovely village. Very close to pubs, small supermarket, and nature. Locals are very friendly. The village also has a playground, great for small children.

A great location for walking however we thought that because there was a kitchen it would be a bit more equipped than it was. No washing up liquid or salt and pepper for example, if you're thinking of cooking meals you will want to bring everything except the pans and plates with you. Breakfast at the cafe next door was fab and the pub in the village was very friend for a down to earth pub grub meal.

We received an email stating that there would be a tablet and book of local information in the apartment. There was no tablet and no local information. This would be really useful as there is very limited shops and amenities in the local area. Recommendations of pubs, walks etc would be useful.
The double bed in the main room in Slit Wood is not a double size, more like a three quarter, very cosy for two adults.
Sofa and chair are not very comfortable for the weekend, very modern and more for display.
WiFi did not work unless you were up first in the morning before the rest of the other people in the other apartments. TV would not connect to WIFI, therefore no option to use Smart TV.

The location and the apartment are lovely. Very close to local shop, cafe and pub.
The apartment was lovely and clean but one thing spoit it for us - the wifi was almost non existent. Also the shower is very poor in terms of power, but we could put up with that for a week.

We had a really great time in St John's Chapel and can only recommend staying there – it's perfectly located for exploring the immediate area (with lots of stunning walks starting just around the corner of the flat) as well as places by the coast, Hadrian's Wall, etc. The flat itself was great for cooking and preparing sandwiches for walks, and we were very happy with how clean it was! The bed was also really comfortable, and it was a nice plus to have a washing machine there. The flat was based on the main street but very quiet, and it was really convenient to have a Co-op and a café (with a fancy new coffee machine) right next to it. The WiFi was really poor though, so for the two video call meetings we had during our stay, we ended up having to switch to our phone's data plans (WiFi is something that we normally don't care about much so it just depends on whether you need to do any video calls or not). The pub around the corner served wonderful food, and the locals were extremely friendly and helpful in pointing us towards great walks. We will definitely be back – St John's Chapel is a real gem.

We adored visiting St John’s Chapel. It is superb for beautiful walks, right from the doorstep along the river valleys or up higher into the fells.
The Chatterbox cafe next door is AMAZING for a breakfast buttie, and the pub next door is a fab little sun trap and staff were very friendly. The co op is poorly stocked, so if you are staying for a week consider planning ahead and getting a grocery delivery to the property the night you arrive - we wished we’d thought of this.
The accommodation is largely as described, the bedroom felt spacious and the living room was tranquil with lovely views of the hillside opposite.
We would love to return to the area again and definitely recommend this place to everyone :)

Great location in beautiful Weardale valley, next door to excellent Chatterbox Cafe and not far from welcoming Blue Bell pub. Good size apartment and lower floor lock up area to keep bikes. Large flatscreen TV. Good to have a large private car park with space allocated for each apartment.
Efficient resolution of initial problem from the management company who even provided a bottle of wine as an apology.
The code to access the outside gate for bike storage would have been a game changer as would the provision of basic cleaning cloth / soap for the kitchen and essentially - a toilet brush! On the subject of the kitchen I have never seen a hob fitted with window putty with obvious unhygienic sequelae. Also, the hot water cistern supplying the kitchen and sink is minute and provides 2-3 litres of scalding hot water before going cold.
Future guests should be aware there is wifi but it seems to be shared with the whole building and therefore fluctuates in speed.

A modern and clean little place in a lovely small village. Two nice pubs and the location is great, roughly 15 mins away from sites such as high force.

Nice clean flat right next door to an excellent cafe. Good spot for exploring.
Slight downside is you can hear everything in the other flats especially doors banging and dogs pottering about above you.

Fabulous apartment. Really comfortable, everything so new and clean. A delight to wake up here and to relax after a hard day's hiking! Lovely situation with views, so convenient for shop, cafe and pub, and for some great walking.
Odd that there wasn't any hanging space for clothes in either of the two bedrooms in High Force. We used bedroom number two as a dressing room, so it wasn't a problem for us. We felt the apartment would be on the small size for more than 2 or 3 people - there are only two breakfast stools and there would be limited cooking utensils etc.
Another thing, there are a number of apartments in this building. Photos and descriptions on the site are put together, so it was difficult to work out what facilities are linked to each apartment. I mistakingly thought I had booked a groundfloor apartment as the site wasn't clear, but this was then clarified by the host.

Great apartment in lovely village. We found it to be really well equipped, with a comfy bed and helpful host. Pub, cafe and co-op all within 100m.

This apartment is brand new, as such super clean and everything in working order. Excellent bed, pillows and bedding (slept really well which is unusual for me). The apartment was well appointed, only issue was WIFI and lack of coffee/machine as stated. But the location is great. Easy reach to local sights like Barnard castle, High and Low force, Raby Castle etc.
Convenient little co-op nearby and two pubs in the village. Would recommend.

The apartment had a bit of an odd smell (kippers?), and the heated towel rail didn't work, also the WiFi /TV reception was poor.

We enjoyed our short stay in this lovely apartment. Clean and comfortable with a nice little terraced area in the back to sit out and relax.

The apartment had everything we needed. The location was great. A village in wear dale with an authentic feel. The golden lion pub is just metres away and the people were very friendly.

Excellent location, situated on the main road, but very quiet. Excellent view form the apartment. Well maintained with good cooking facilities. Nice clean modern furnishings. Very comfortable bed, but a little small for 2 people. Felt very safe and secure inside and outside.
The shower facilities need upgrading to improve water pressure and consistency of temperature. The bedroom lacked any storage facilities which meant living out of a suitcase for a week which was unpleasant. Wi-fi signal was poor. No tourist information to promote the area or emergency numbers.

The decor was lovely, kitchen facilties great and the beds were really comfortable. Hand sanitiser was also available.
The washing machine was not plumbed in, no DVD player or regular TV.

Perfect set up, ideal for what we needed, easy access and plenty of room, dog friendly is a huge bonus

We were looking for a quiet stay away and this was just that, the town was very quiet. There are local pubs, a cafe and a shop within 2 minutes walk from the front door. We really enjoyed going to the bluebell inn where we met some lovely people, the local people were very friendly the cafe was also really nice! Breakfast was amazing. This is close to walking routes, high force and low force which are definitely worth the drive. We also found that the Lake District was a close drive so had a day trip there. The location of this apartment was perfect, would highly recommend and would go back to St Johns Chapel. Thanks!

The apartment was lovely and stylist. Beautiful view from the living room window. Kitchen was well equipped with crockery and appliances. The place needs to provide more toilet roll and bin liners. Other than that it was a very comfortable stay and we'll probably be back.
