Neighborhood
Nightingale House is located in the popular city of Durham in the North East, just a 15 minute walk from the city centre. Named ‘One of the Best Cities in the World to Visit in 2020’ by The Independent and voted ‘The Best City in the UK’ by Condé Nast’s traveller magazine readers, the beautiful city is packed with history and charm.

It has the perfect blend of medieval heritage and a modern, vibrant feel. The cobbled streets are peppered with restaurants, bars, pubs and shops. Take a leisurely stroll near the River Wear which continues on past Durham Cathedral and the 900 year old Durham Castle.

Durham Cathedral is an outstanding building originally constructed between 1093 and 1133. The Norman architecture is especially important as it is now the oldest surviving building with a stone vaulted ceiling of such a large scale. You can climb the Tower’s 325 steps for incredible views of the city and countryside. If you’re a fan of Harry Potter, head to the Chapter House where they filmed one of the Hogwarts classrooms.

Getting Around
The centre of Durham is a short 15-minute walk from Nightingale House.

Durham train station is 10-minutes away on foot so nearby towns and cities can easily be reached via rail. There’s also a taxi rank in close proximity to the train station.

There are plenty of bus routes throughout Durham. Hop on the Arriva 6 route to visit Barnard Castle or the number 22 which travels through Seaham and Sunderland.

Nice, clean, modern house. 15 mins walk from town. Located near hospital and Wharton Park. Useful that parking is available in front of the properties garage.

This is a good place. The pics make it look larger than it is though. It is a row house so there are only windows on either end but it is light enough. it is clean and well done. The kitchen has everything one might need. There is a coffee machine like an nespresso kind in kitchen but there were no pods and when we inquired where we could get some we were asked to send some pics of the machine to the owners or the company who manages the property so they could find out what it was. Communication was somewhat cumbersome and took so long that we gave up on the inquiry. That had other coffee maker which we ended up using. Also if you are a light sleeper this place might not work for you. it is nestled between major road arteries so traffic noise is loud and if you want to sleep with the window open you will hear it. Other than that a good place, clean energy good kitchen supplies. Overall we give it a 3.5 on the scale from 1-5

Leak from the first floor bathroom into the kitchen. Poor communication, I never received check in details. I’ve tried to contact them about the leak but still haven’t had any acknowledgment from them.
The house itself was ok apart from the leak.

Lovely house. Very close to park and ride stops to get into centre. Issue with bath quickly resolved. No parking permit available though.

This house was clean and well -presented. The beds were new and comfortable. The furniture was also new and smart.
The kitchen was small but well-equipped with all appliances and plenty of crockery and utensils. The showers had good pressure with plenty of hot water ( though the water temperature was less warm for a bath.). This is a lovely 3 double-bedroomed house in a quiet residential area.
It was really warm and comfortable (we had snow!) We were expecting it to feel further out of the city than it was, with easy walk of around 25 minutes. Parking was easy but follow the instructions and park off road in front of the back gate and not in front of the garage door ( unless you use a resident's parking permit but we weren't left one of these)
We stayed here for our daughter's graduation and it was just what we needed.
It would have been good to have some sort of written welcome note/instructions and not to have rely on the emailed ones. It just felt a bit impersonal... instructions eg for the cooker would have been welcome.
The shower door in the top shower room leaked from the corner all over the floor....can be avoided by angling the shower head inwards -this is because the shower door has been fitted incorrectly so the seal is on the outside not the inside. It's a smart shower though!
There were only 4 of us, so we all fitted fine round the table but if we had had six of us there would not have been enough chairs/space
But these are minor things -it was a great place to stay.

Beds were comfy. House was warm when heating worked.
1. There were two keys left in the key safe. One did not open any door, the other opened the back door. The front door was chained when we got inside.
We got a little confused about this as the front door would not open - and we called Host & Stay before figuring it out. This should be made clear to future guests.
2. When the top floor shower is running, the ground floor toilet gurgles, occasionally so violently that water comes out of the bowl on to the floor.
3. Host & Stay warned us that there had been problems with the boiler. We discovered that the boiler cannot retain pressure for more than three hours before fizzling out and the heating/hot water cuts out.
4. In the online house instructions guide, it says that there is free parking outside the garage. On the Booking.com website, the house listing says there is free private parking. This is not true and is misselling. We received a parking ticket because we did not display a resident's parking permit.
5. I emailed these points to Host & Stay a week ago and no-one has replied so far. That sums up the property: slap-dash.
