If you’re looking for a cosy place to stay in a central town location, look no further than Mad Alice’s Cottage. Situated close to the coast and the North Yorkshire Moors, you’ll have easy access to splendid walks and cycling routes through woodland and along the Cleveland Way. With premium interiors and homely furnishings, this recently refurbished holiday home is both stylish and peaceful. Sleeping up to 4 guests across 3 warm bedrooms, it is perfect for group getaways and family stays.
On the ground floor, you’ll find an open plan living and dining area. Bright in appearance, the living area features neutral walls and personalised furnishings. The ideal place to relax after a day of exploring the local area, you can kick back on one of the sofas and switch on the TV to keep up with your favourite shows on Freeview or Netflix.
The dining area features contemporary seating with a wooden table and matching chairs with cushions. The large window behind the table brightens the space and you’ll have quick access to the kitchen.
The cool space features everything you could need for your self-catering staycation as the kitchen has all necessary utensils and cookware so you can prepare meals easily throughout your stay. The doors open out into an enclosed yard area with two seating areas, as well as a BBQ, boot rack and an outdoor sink.
Also on the ground floor is the family bathroom which has a walk-in shower, WC and basin.
Head upstairs and you’ll find three bedrooms.
The main bedroom has a light grey colour theme to create a truly relaxing space. The comfy double bed boasts premium bed linens and plush bedding so you can enjoy your nights sleep at Mad Alice’s Cottage. Light blue coloured drawers and a wardrobe complete the space.
Along the hallway, you’ll find the second and third bedrooms. These spaces feature single beds and plenty of hanging space for clothes.
Mad Alice’s Cottage is located in the small, family friendly town of Loftus which has independent shops and amenities including the award winning Willow Cake Shop, Wold Pottery for arts and crafts and Mad Alice’s micro gin bar. If you’re looking to get active during your stay, join the infamous 100 mile long Cleveland Way Trail or venture to Staithes along Boulby Cliffs which is the highest cliff on the east coast! Loftus is also an ideal base for cycling as you will find the Tour de Yorkshire and the Klondike pass by at the end of the road. If you want to partake in cycling yourself, there are plenty of uphill climbs to get your heart racing!
The gorgeous seaside town of Saltburn-by-the-Sea is just a short 15 minute drive away. Here you’ll find golden sandy shores and a bustling town centre. You can take the oldest functioning cliff lift in the UK down to the promenade where you’ll arrive at the 208-metre pier which stretches out into the sea. The beach is overlooked by colourful boutique beach huts, a fish restaurant, arcades and a surf shop making it the ideal spot for a day at the seaside.
Also close to Loftus is the charming fishing village of Staithes. The quaint coastal hamlet was recently named one of Britain’s most beautiful seaside villages. It has high cliffs, winding streets and mismatched cottages bursting with charm. Staithes is a magnet for art and artists alike. Throughout the village you’ll find amazing painted illusions known as the ‘Painted Illusions Trail’ created by the famous artist Paul Czainski. It is also the home to the impressionist art society, known as Staithes Group, and their work can always be seen dotted around. Visit Staithes Gallery and browse the wonderful exhibits inspired by the village.
If you're after a peaceful day at the beach, head to the beautiful Skinningrove which is among the top 20 undiscovered places in the UK.
Mad Alice’s Cottage is within walking distance of all that Loftus has to offer. It is within 15 minutes’ drive time of Saltburn and Staithes, and 30 minutes’ drive time Whitby so the coast can be easily explored.
The closest train station is located in Saltburn and has routes to Longbeck, Redcar, Middlesbrough and Darlington with connecting trains to Newcastle, York, Leeds, Manchester and London.
There are a number of bus routes throughout Loftus. Hop on the Arriva North East 5 which travels through to Middlesbrough. If you want to explore the coast, take the X4 route and you can visit beautiful coastal villages like Runswick Bay and Sandsend, as well as the seaside town of Whitby.
