Saltburn Beach
Saltburn-by-the-Sea boasts a beautiful beach with long sandy shores. This hidden gem has miles of golden sands which are framed by towering cliffs in the distance. Don’t just take our word for it though – the beach was recently awarded 3rd place in The 30 Best British Beaches by The Times!
If you want to try your hand at surfing, this is the place! Saltburn-by-the-Sea was one of the originals amongst the surf scene in the North East. Perfect beginner waves can be found at either side of the pier and waves as high as 10ft can be enjoyed by professionals on other days. If you’re interested, head to Saltburn Surf School and they’ll have everything you need from coaching to board and suit hire.
The Pier
Originally opened in 1869, Saltburn also has the last remaining pier in Yorkshire! The Grade II* listed pier is a strong reminder of the Victorian efforts throughout the 1800s and since it was opened in 1869, it has weathered many storms and catastrophes. Today the incredible Victorian cast-iron pier stretches 681ft into the sea and is lovingly decorated with knitted artwork by Saltburn’s mysterious yarn bombers.
Eating & Drinking in Saltburn-by-the-Sea
You can’t visit North Yorkshire without trying local fish and chips! One of our favourite spots is the lovely Seaview Restaurant. Aptly named as it is just metres from the beach, you can expect the freshest seafood and incredible views of the coastline. What’s more – Seaview Restaurant works with local boats that are certified by the Responsible Fishing Scheme so low impact fishing methods are used to preserve our marine environment.
Explore the town centre and you’ll discover an array of independent shops, restaurants, bars and pubs. We’d recommend heading to The Guns Bar if you fancy a laidback and cosy drink. This quirky, dog-friendly bar offers local craft ale, world beers and over 40 gins!
Exploring Saltburn-by-the-Sea
Ideal for those walking the Cleveland Way Trail, you’ll arrive at Saltburn-by-the-Sea on your journey from Kildale and the next route takes you from Saltburn through to the small, fishing village of Staithes. The walk features stunning views as you journey through Boulby Cliff, which is the highest cliff on the eastern coast of England.
If you’d prefer to take a leisurely stroll, follow the maze of paths and tracks through woodland and rows of flowers at The Valley Gardens. Little ones will love the park and the train ride which journeys around the gardens.
