Ilkley Area Guide

Ilkley is a beautiful, picturesque town located in West Yorkshire. You can find Ilkley in the Wharfedale Valley, which is part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. This lovely town is known for its stunning natural beauty, historic architecture and vibrant cultural scene.

The former spa town rose to fame in the nineteenth century, when thousands visited for the fresh invigorating air and first class hotels. Still to this day, Ilkley is renowned for its fresh air, moorland and it’s beautiful countryside.

Food and Drink

Ilkley hosts an excellent range of bars, restaurants and cafes which offer a great range of mouth-watering menus and even better service. In the picturesque Wharfedale valley, you can find Bettys, traditional tea rooms serving traditional meals with influences from both Switzerland and Yorkshire. Ilkley also offers sophisticated gin and wine bars, such as The Gin Lounge, a quirky, Edwardian themed bar where you can try some of the hundreds of different gins on offer!

Make sure to check out the Cow & Calf Rocks, a natural rock feature on Ilkley Moor which is said to look like a cow and its calf as it features a bigger rock formation next to a smaller one. Adorable! The rocks location is a great place for climbing and offers wonderful views of Ilkley.

If you love to swim, why not visit Ilkley Pool and Lido. Take a dip in one of the UK’s last few remaining outdoor pools or relax in the tranquil settings with a picnic and soak up the wonderful views of Ilkley moors.

Take a trip to Manor House, one of Ilkley’s oldest buildings, which has now been converted into an attractive museum and art gallery and experience a glimpse of Ilkley’s past, with a regularly changing programme of temporary exhibitions for you and the family to enjoy. You can find this museum nestled in the lovely surroundings of the Wharfe Valley.
