Neighborhood
Alnwick, a charming market town nestled in the picturesque county of Northumberland, England, is a place where history and natural beauty merge seamlessly. With its roots dating back to Roman times, Alnwick has a rich and storied past that is still very much alive today.

The town is perhaps best known for its stunning Alnwick Castle, a majestic medieval fortress that has stood for over a thousand years and a site that is just ten minutes away from Studio No.8. This iconic landmark has played a significant role in both British history and pop culture, serving as a filming location for movies and television series, including the beloved Harry Potter films. Its beautifully manicured gardens, known as the Alnwick Garden, are equally enchanting, featuring ornate fountains, an enchanting treehouse restaurant, and a fascinating poison garden filled with deadly plants.

Alnwick's historic town centre is a delightful mix of cobbled streets, charming shops, and traditional pubs. It exudes an inviting atmosphere that beckons visitors to explore its nooks and crannies. The town's market square is a hub of activity, hosting a weekly market where locals and tourists alike can browse an array of goods, from fresh produce to artisan crafts.

Nature enthusiasts will find Alnwick's surroundings equally captivating. The nearby Northumberland National Park offers miles of unspoiled wilderness, ideal for hiking and outdoor adventures. Alnwick is also a gateway to the stunning Northumberland coastline, featuring sandy beaches, dramatic cliffs, and the Farne Islands, a haven for birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts.

Getting Around
The closest train station to Alnwick can be found in Alnmouth, which is roughly a 10-minute drive from the town so other locations in Northumberland can easily be reached via rail. The station has direct routes to Newcastle, Edinburgh, York, Leeds, London and Bristol.

There are a number of bus stops throughout Alnwick and the main bus station is just a short from walk away from Studio No.8. Hop on the X20 which takes you through to Newcastle with stops in beautiful areas of Northumberland like Alnmouth and Amble. This is a great flat in a brilliant location. Lots of great pubs and restaurants - all walkable. Also a good location to explore. We managed Holy Island, Hadrian’s Wall and Newcastle city centre.

The apartment was nice, clean and well located. But the washing machine and dishwasher were not working for our longer stay which was annoying and inconvenient. Both had been broken for some time and despite frequent messages nothing was rectified. We found Host&Stay were quick to send messages, often in the middle of the night, but took no action to sort the problems out. The washing machine was broken for at least two weeks before we arrived, and the inside of the dishwasher was mouldy - so these were not new issues. I do not think I could recommend Host&Stay, which is disappointing as the apartment itself was lovely just let down by poor maintenance.

We stayed at studio no. 8 in December. It was absolutely lovely. The apartment had everything we needed, tastefully decorated and lovely and clean. It’s within walking distance to Alnwick centre so it was really handy to be able to walk to the restaurants etc. We brought some food with us but there is a Lidl and a coop nearby. There is also a covered parking space. We will definitely be staying again when we visit family in Northumberland.
