The wood burner was wonderful as it was cold in October, except we had to go out to buy matches and paper. The welcome hamper was very thoughtful and the flowers on the table most welcome 🙏. Our stay was lovely, enjoyed the DVD player. There was nowhere to put shoes and coats, needed back door hooks and shoe rack .

The cottage was in a lovely location a few steps from the beautiful river path and a short walk up the hill to the high street of Barnard Castle. Our children loved the playground next to the castle, the impressive Bowes Museum and Raby castle is well worth the short drive. The cottage is accurately described although it’s important to note there is no dishwasher or drawers to unpack suitcases into. The duvets on the beds were not particularly warm although it was the first cold snap of the season so perhaps the summer duvets had not yet been changed for winter ones.
