Located in the peaceful surroundings of Winnows Hill Farm in the village of Ruffside, in County Durham, Cote is a characterful two-story cottage with plenty of charm. Just a short drive from the vibrant town of Consett and a number of beautiful walking routes, you’ll have everything you could need to enjoy a peaceful getaway in the North East. Sleeping up to four guests, Cote is perfect for family holidays and couples retreats.
Property Details
The Space
Cote has high ceilings and original features so you’ll find plenty of character and charm throughout. The cottage benefits from a spacious living room with exposed beams, comfy sofas and a flat screen TV. Ideal for relaxing, you can get lost in a good book or snuggle up with your loved ones and watch your favourite shows.
Sharing the space is the kitchen diner which features sage green cupboards and black worktops. You’ll have everything you could need to make home cooked meals during your stay as the kitchen is fully equipped with modern appliances and cookware.
The dining area has a breakfast bar style table and four bar stools to ensure all guests are catered for.
Cote has two bedrooms, one on the ground floor and another on the first floor. Both bedrooms are cosy spaces and boast ample storage space, bedside table and lamps, and double beds with plush white bedding.
The family bathroom can be found on the ground floor and is complete with a spacious shower, WC and wash basin.
Outside you’ll find a communal grassed area and a courtyard with outdoor furniture. A real bonus, the outdoor space at Winnows Hill Farm is fantastic if you want to relax outside during your visit.
Host & Stay are committed to our owners that their homes are protected during guest bookings. For this reason, we require all our guests to transfer a Damage Deposit (refundable, subject to an administration charge) or, to purchase an Accidental Damage Waiver which will cover you for up to £500.00 of accidental damage during your stay.

Winnows Hill Farm is located in the remote village of Ruffside. Located in County Durham, it’s a beautiful place packed with stone houses and delightful walks close by. If you’re looking for somewhere to truly relax, Ruffside is the perfect place.
The closest town to Ruffside is Consett which is a vibrant town in North West Durham. The Coast to Coast cycle route passes through Consett and is known as the UK’s most popular long-distance cycle route. If you’d prefer a more relaxed visit, you can explore The Glass and Art Gallery, Derwent Reservoir and many restaurants, cafes, bars and shops.
Getting Around
The closest train station to Ruffside is Stocksfield which is a 20 minute drive away. Stocksfield is a small yet sprawling commuter village which is served by the Tyne Valley Line, with trains running to Newcastle, Hexham and Carlisle. A number of connecting routes can also be found from these stations so getting to other locations around the UK could not be easier.
The 773 bus route travels through to Consett from Ruffside.

Lovely cabin with plenty of parking. Very clean and comfortable. WiFi was a little slow and there’s no mobile data but other than that it was ideal.

Beautiful apartment, great scenery all round and a nice quiet location.<br/><br/>Huge hidden insurance charge (£250 up front on arrival and 2 full weeks to get it back minus £10 admin or £25 fee non refundable) not shown on description anywhere. We were given a fake code to the key box via email and after a 2 hour drive to get there, we rang "host and stay" and they text a link to pay them extra money. We had very little signal to do this and not enough money on the original credit card to pay them their extortionate demands. Took over an hour to complete while the kids were desperate for the toilet. When we finally got in, the boiler did not work for heating or water. Host and stay did not answer the phone to help but the onsite farmer was really helpful and luckilly knew someone else to call. He was a god send. The accomodation was great but will avoid host and stay at all costs with underhand tactics they use to squeeze money out of customers.

The house itself is nice and the location is beautiful. Unfortunately it wasn’t cleaned that well for when I arrived. Dust and dead bugs on the windowsills. And then stained bedding as well. They did arrange a cleaner to change the bedding, however the clean bedding was just left on the kitchen table.
