Neighborhood
Known as the jewel in the heart of North Yorkshire, Richmond is a market town with plenty of charm. Despite the many cafes, bistros, restaurants, pubs and bars, little has actually changed in Richmond throughout the centuries.

There is plenty of history for you to discover. Enjoy a live show at The Georgian Theatre, which is actually the oldest theatre in Europe. Look out of the bedroom windows you’ll see the magnificent Richmond Castle. An interactive museum was recently added to the site so it’s definitely worth a visit!

Just a stone’s throw from the cottage, you’ll find The Station. This gorgeous Old Victorian Railway Station has been given a new lease of life with a mix of artisan shops, a cinema, an art gallery and a café bar. You can sample beer brewed in house from Richmond Brewing company. The café bar also won the best café in the Herriot Awards recently so you’re in for a real treat.

Richmond is great for walking. There is a great river walk to Easby Abbey which is a free site to visit from English Heritage. Another beautiful walking area is Richmond Falls which is just down the hill from the marketplace. When the weather is nice, we recommend having a picnic at The Batts.

Getting Around
Darlington train station is 12 miles from Richmond and has great links to cities like Newcastle, Manchester and Edinburgh. A number of connecting routes can also be found from these stations so getting to other locations around the UK could not be easier.

Richmond also has great bus routes. The X26 and X27 travel from Darlington through to Colburn, with stops in Catterick. The scenic Dalesbus has routes to Ribblehead, Hawes and Bentham.

Great lication

Just to give some feedback on our recent stay at Lily’s Cottage.

Firstly the cottage is in a great location for access to town, although the pin on the supplied map is in the wrong place. The cottage was well laid out well but had a lot of niggles/ defects and was frankly overpriced.

These are my complaints/comments

The cottage itself was very dusty with cobwebs in most corners, mildew around the bathroom window and mould in the bottom of the dining room dresser.

The toilet seat in the upstairs bathroom is loose and dangerous as is using the shower over the bath.

The kitchen had loads of pans but did not have enough cereal bowls or wine glasses for 6 people. Some of the small glasses are badly chipped.
Some of the lamps were not working but we could find no spare light bulbs.

The headboard fell off the upstairs double.
There are no instructions regarding recycling and someone should actually read the online booklet as dogs should be kept downstairs (bedroom) according to the instructions.

Lastly the service from host and stay when we had a problem was appalling.
We could not lock the door and had to send a video to prove we couldn’t lock the door, so we had to leave the door unlocked which spoilt our holiday. We rang twice with each time the member of staff saying they would call us back.

We had such a great stay at Lily’s Cottage, in the heart of Richmond it is in the perfect spot for enjoying the town, whilst also being very peaceful.
The space has been very thoughtfully decorated to a high standard. The beds were super comfortable, the bathrooms felt luxurious, and the kitchen had everything we needed.
Communication was excellent and we had no issues at all. Would highly recommend.

Lovely cottage in a prime location in the centre of Richmond. Unfortunately, the heaters were off and not programmed so that the rooms could be ventilated. Really damp smell in the lower level and to a lesser level in the kitchen and lounges. Signs of mould in the en-suite bathroom with the window the only means of creating air circulation . Once this is sorted it’ll be a 5 star cottage.

The location near the town centre was good but difficult to find in spite of the satnav. The cottage was clean & comfortable but very cold on the first night particularly. Advised host that a fan heater needed as storage heaters weren’t working.

The sliding door on the stairs needs to close for additional safely. Bath mat to the downstairs shower required to prevent slipping. It would be useful to know more about the parking issues before booking. It’s not a big problem but could have been if the few spaces available near the cottage had been full when I was unloading my car on arrival.

After booking the host decided to charge a damage waiver and refused to provide the keysafe details until we had paid. We were 2 couples in our late 60s/early 70s and were attending a funeral. We were out most of the time and just needed a bed. We were not having wild parties breaking everything! The location of the property was good but there were some issues: a bedroom door which did not shut, mould around the mastic in the shower room. I would not be keen to stay again despite the fact that we will have to visit the area again shortly. On the whole disappointing

We were very happy with the accommodation. Location was excellent - right by the castle and centre of town but still peaceful. It looked exactly like in the photos and it was clean and modern. Parking was a bit of an issue when we arrived but soon found somewhere to put the car. Comfy beds, good storage space and we felt very at home.

Great location, lovely old cottage, nice interior with quality furnishings.
More constructive feedback and anything but the only thing that let the place down was the cleanliness (particularly having paid a £90 cleaning fee). A particularly dusty house with cobwebs and surfaces clearly needing a cloth running over them. Furthermore there were several patches of mould on the walls (bedroom and living room). We provided multiple photos of this to the hosts and they have apologised.
Appreciate it’s an old house so damp and dust do occur, but clearly suggestive of a cleaning job that wasn’t very thorough. A shame really albeit if they did a deep clean of the property it would be lovely and I’d very much recommend.

This is a lovely, spacious, comfortable cottage. Well stocked kitchen, we even cooked a roast while we were there. Located just outside the castle and just off the market square so very close the the bustling market and short walk to the river or the countryside for walks with the dog!

Lovely cottage and a good location. Only real issue was parking.

The property was ideally situated and perfect for restaurants, cafe’s and walks. The wood burning stoves were an added bonus and made the property nice and cosy for a winter stay. Plenty of room in the cottage for the 6 of us.

Lovely cottage well furnished. Spotlessly clean and great location.

It was cold in cottage when we arrived Thursday evening. Turned electric heaters on throughout but it took till following afternoon before place warmed up. 2 log burners but no wood paper kindling or matches provided for arrival. We did buy some on the Friday so we could light fires. And wow what a difference. It’s a shame we hadn’t been provided with some for arrival or at least told we would need some.

My family and I have just had a fantastic stay at Lily’s Cottage. The location is so great and is right in the centre of Richmond, but still feels very quiet and peaceful.
The cottage is beautifully decorated and felt so cosy. It is perfectly equipped and very clean.
We had a wonderful stay and certainly think we will return- thank you!
