We had a lovely stay in honey cottage. Very Good location. Very cosy cottage and was clean. Had a lovely walk around runswick bay and staithes. Walking distance to the badger hound which was a lovely pub and restaurant which was dog friendly.

When i purchased this holiday booking.com advertised it as free cancellation and pay month before. After booking I got a message from host and stay requesting 25percent deposit upfront and full payment 75 days before arrival. On booking. Com there was no mention of a damage waver however as host and stay policy I had to pay a non refundable £25 fee or pay refundable £200 not returned for 14 days with a £10 admin free. This is so wrong as these term should be quoted on the booking prior to making the booking. A damage waiver is incase of breakage yet either way we had to pay £10 or £25 and why would it take 14 days to return? Just another way of charging more money DISGUSTING.

On a lighter note it Needed more basic necessities in the house such as scrubbers, more than one tea towel, kitchen roll, salt and pepper

A bijou property on main road through the village but with it's own private off-road space. The property is warm and cosy. Within a mile of Runswick Bay so a nice easy walk. A good base for touring around Whitby, Staithes and Saltburn.

Wonderful little cottage in a fantastic location to explore nearby towns like Robin Hoods Bag and Sandsend.
A cute and cosy living room with a wood burner to keep it nice and toasty on the cold coastal evenings.
My partner, dog and I all had a fantastic time and we would definitely stay here again in the future if it was available.

Although the property is quiet small it had everything you needed and more. Having the lovely courtyard at the back and bench at the front was great, we could catch the sun anywhere. Only a short walk to 2 pubs. The food in the Badger Hound was lovely, ate there both nights. Great walk to Runswick Bay along the cliff tops.

Nothing to do with the cottage it was great. What I didn't like was Host & Stay making me either pay £30 for 'breakage' insurance or having to pay a large deposit for damages which I would get back in 14 days minus £10 admin fee. I think this is a rip off and makes me question whether i will book another Host & Stay which is a shame as the ones i have booked have been lovely.

Few essential items missing; oven gloves and stove glove - we have to use the only tea towel in the place as a replacement for both so it got dirty quickly mix. Also - seemingly only wood / coal for one night - perhaps there was more but not clear

Easy walking distance of pubs and public transport links

The boiler came on in the afternoon but when it went off it got slightly cold. I was unable to start the boiler again due to there being no instructions. The log fire was a nice touch.

Lovely place to stay and the cottage was great. I’d like to say that above all the owner, David, was responsive, helpful and quick to sort out the problem of a power cut when we arrived. He was very apologetic and reimbursed us for the inconvenience, without prompting. Host & Stay however were less than helpful - on contacting them in the first instance they sent me a very generic message and then failed to respond to my reply, simply sending me an automated message asking me how my check in went. I had an apology from another member of the H&S team the next morning but by then I’d already sorted the issue by liaising with David and a neighbour. In contrast to the personal and helpful response I got from David - who I only managed to contact after being given the number by the very helpful neighbour, Host & Stay’s service was poor. I don’t have a bad word to say about the cottage or about David, which we’re both great - Host & Stay however were less than satisfactory.

Beautiful cottage. VERY clean with everything you could want for your stay. Lovely comfortable beds with fluffy pillows....best few nights sleep ive had in a long time !! Lovely location, ideal as a base for exploring the surroundings. We loved that there was a notebook in a drawer that some guests have written in, it was lovely reading what they had written on where to go and what to do., places to eat etc. We took their advice and had wonderful meals out locally.....just a small idea that made a huge difference....and the owners stay periodically and read the book too which is lovely. They take note and look into any suggestions made by guests and write their own comments in their too.
All directions and entry instructions were spot on.

Not saying I didint like it...but a suggestion i made was the seating area out the back could benefit from somekind of sun/rain cover....in my opinion....but this is by no means any kind of complaint !!!

Honey cottage is a beautiful little cottage on the North Yorkshire coast, perfect for dogs with Runswick Bay a pleasant 20- 30 minute walk away.
The buses were a great success, pick up just outside made a day in Whitby with our dog so easy.
There is no shop in the village so be sure to bring stocks with you.

Lovely cottage in quiet neighbourhood. Only a short bus ride to Whitby

Everything was fine, but Perhaps they should have been a card explaining how to work the shower as we found that very difficult. If you’re not used to an electric shower it’s hard to work the switch and also the immersion heater can be mistaken for a pull cord to a fan. We turned this off inadvertently, hence having no hot water for one day.

Then we realised that we had to leave this on. The cottage was really homely and cosy and the perfect size for us and our little dog.

The location was really good as it provided the perfect base for exploring the surrounding areas.

It had everything you needed in terms of kitchen equipment and the patio area in the back was secure and really private. It also included a dog washing tap out the back which was really handy after being at the beach.

The cottage was well equipped with everything you could need, for a short to medium length stay. The location is well placed for Whitby, North Yorkshire Moors and the coastal towns; with a regular bus that stops just out front if you don't fancy a walk. It has off road parking and considering its on a main road you can't hear any traffic because it's set back. We would visit again.

Having to deal with Host and Stay and their requirements was a bit tedious. As with all the reviews, be aware of the damage waiver [£250 refundable + £10 admin, or £25 payment]. I'm also allergic to dogs and found I was occasionally being affected by it, there wasn't any smell but considering the £60 cleaning fee there was hair in the carpet etc.

Christine

10/05/2023

The location was good for visiting other areas.
Bus stop a minute away which meant you could go to Whitby etc and save on finding a parking space.
Well laid out with and clean kitchen had all you needed ( could do with some egg cups ).

The mattresses very uncomfortable with the springs poking you whenever you moved.
A mattress topper may improve the situation.
Bathroom a tight fit for more than one but served it’s purpose.

16/04/2023

Lovely cosy cottage with nice outside space. The bathroom is narrow, as are the stairs but that's to be expected in an cottage and wasn't a problem at all for us, just something to be aware of. Host and Stay do request a fairly chunky deposit which I feel is unnecessary (particularly when you're already paying £60 for cleaning) and not something we've had to do for other Airbnb stays. There is also a £10 admin charge for the processing of this. Thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at Honey Cottage though, comfortable bed, clean and tidy and has facilities to wash muddy paws and boots in the courtyard at the back.

Honey cottage was beautiful. The location is perfect for visiting a range of gorgeous seaside towns. The house itself had everything we needed and was decorated to a high standard.
