Welcome to Sanderling Chase — a spacious, beautifully finished split-level apartment in the heart of Scarborough's Falsgrave area. We're steps from Bloom Coffee Shop & Bakery, 10 minutes' walk from the train station, and about a mile from the sea. Whether you're here for a break, a working stay, or need a comfortable base near the hospital, we'd love to have you.

The Space

The apartment occupies the upper floors of a characterful Victorian building on Commercial Street. The high ceilings and tall sash windows give the place a real sense of light and space — something you notice the moment you walk in. The kitchen, dining and living area is on the first floor, and it's double aspect — windows on two sides mean it's bright from morning through to evening. It's a proper living space: a comfortable sofa and two armchairs, a flat-screen Smart TV with all the usual streaming apps (BBC iPlayer, ITV, Netflix, Amazon Prime and more — just sign into your own accounts), and a round dining table for four. The kitchen has everything you'd want for a self-catering stay: dishwasher, oven, hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee machine, kettle, toaster, and full crockery, cutlery and cookware. Great if you want to cook — and with quality restaurants and takeaways right on the doorstep, equally good if you don't. Head up the second internal staircase and you'll find both bedrooms and the bathroom. Bedroom 1 has a king-size bed with plush bedding, premium linen, bedside lamps, bedside sockets and a hairdryer. Bedroom 2 has a super-king bed — same quality finish, with bedside lamps and a hairdryer — which we can split into two singles on request. Just let us know your preference before arrival. The bathroom is modern and clean, with a walk-in shower, WC and basin. Tower fans are provided in both bedrooms for warmer nights. There's also a dedicated desk and chair for anyone working during their stay — with ultrafast WiFi throughout, consistently rated 10 out of 10 by our guests. To get you started on arrival, we provide a small welcome supply of tea bags, coffee pods and milk sachets, a toilet roll, and a starter set of toiletries — shower gel, shampoo and soap. A full Sainsbury's supermarket is less than 5 minutes' walk away for anything else you need.

Neighbourhood

We're just off Falsgrave Road in Scarborough, less than a mile from the town centre and a mile from the seafront. It's a real neighbourhood with great independent shops, cafes and restaurants nearby, with everything the town has to offer a short walk or bus ride away. Bloom Coffee Shop & Bakery is literally on the corner of our building — step outside, turn left, and it's there. It's one of our favourite spots and a brilliant start to any morning. Getting around is easy. Bus stops are nearby on Falsgrave Road with frequent services in both directions — to the beach, town centre, and beyond. Scarborough Hospital is served by buses from Falsgrave Road, a short walk away. The train station is 10 minutes on foot, with direct services to York, Sheffield, Hull, Doncaster, Beverley and more. The famous Cinder Track — off-road cycling and walking all the way to Whitby via Robin Hood's Bay — starts close by, and we have secure bike storage for up to 4 bikes at the rear. Scarborough has more to offer than many visitors expect: North Bay and South Bay beaches within a mile, the historic castle, Peasholm Park, the Open Air Theatre, the Stephen Joseph Theatre, and the Scarborough Spa. Whitby is about 45 minutes' drive — a brilliant day trip, and a useful alternative if Whitby itself is fully booked or at peak prices. Go on a weekday in summer if you can.

Getting Around

Sanderling Chase is only 10 minutes’ walk from the train station, and the property is on a well-served bus route, making it easy to explore Scarborough and its surroundings. Scarborough has excellent rail links across Yorkshire. From Scarborough Train Station, direct routes can be found operating to Beverley, Bridlington, Brough, Doncaster, Driffield, Filey, Hull, Malton, Sheffield and York. Several bus routes can be found operating in Scarborough offering direct access to Bridlington, Filey, Guisborough, Helmsley, Middlesbrough, Pickering and Whitby. Both Humberside and Teesside International Airports are around 60 miles away from Scarborough.

There's also a locked outdoor storage cupboard at the rear of the building, with wall hooks for up to 3 adult bikes (plus space for a 4th on the floor), or for a pram or pushchair. On-street parking is available along Commercial Street — sometimes directly outside the apartment, but usually within a few metres. It's unrestricted after 5pm and before 9am Monday to Saturday, and before noon and after 5pm on Sundays. During restricted hours (9am-5pm Mon-Sat, noon-5pm Sun), parking is limited to 3 hours with no return within 1 hour; we provide a parking disc in the apartment. For longer daytime stays, the Sainsbury's car park is less than 5 minutes' walk — free for up to 3 hours, and extendable via the Horizon parking app at around £4.25 per day. Alternatively, the Tesco Superstore car park is around half a mile away (approximately 12 minutes on foot) with greater availability — around £8 per day via the Horizon app Please be advised that there are two flights of stairs within Sanderling Chase. From the private entrance on Commercial Street, one flight of stairs takes you up to the main living area on the first floor. A second internal staircase leads up to the bedrooms and bathroom. The staircase is well-built to current building regulations with generous headroom — but please do bear this in mind if mobility is a consideration for any of your group. A sturdy foldaway desk and chair are also available for work purposes. Please note that the smoke detectors will be tested every Monday at 11 am. There is a pub just opposite Sanderling Chase, across Commercial Street.
