location is great for the village centre. the parking is good but watch if you have a longer car. it was nice and quiet at night. there is a nice view and is great for the coast path

Poorly equipped. 2 matching glasses, the rest seem to match only with ones used at the local pub. Knives forks spoons again try to match and all are thin cheapest quality, . No egg cups No oven gloves - this has been reported in other reviews. So no excuse. Added to this you have to pay an extra insurance.
Tv doesn't tune in. Only if you have Netflix account.
No hot water for 2 days. And it is not on demand. You need to switch it on an hour in advance.
Microwave doesn't work. in fact could be dangerous since you think it is working but only cooks half the plate
Sofas badly worn out , uncomfortable

As for the dining table - it needs Bar stool not chairs - i am 6'2 and even i had to find blankets to boost my chair high enough - completely unsuitable for children

since there is no open window or extractor in the kitchen - the work top is "sticky"

the house felt damp

the terrace outside is not great - the seagulls have taken ownership - other terraces nearby don't have it so bad. The garden chairs we had to scrub clean.

Gull's Haven cottage is in a fabulous location with a wonderful view and outdoor seating area overlooking the estuary. It's also got a dedicated parking space over the road which is a real treat in Staithes.

The cottage is deceptively spacious with 3 good sized bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a separate lounge, dining room and kitchen. Everywhere is clean and fresh and the cottage has a very homely feel about it.

There wasn't anything we didn't like about the cottage but it would have been nice to have a small table outside on the terrace.

Perfect location, would definately be returning, a little haven.

The entrace could have been better, as we had to stradle over a hose pipe and ladders throughout the stay just to get through the front door.

There is damp and mould in the master bedroom, we were unable to use the room, there is black mould growing on the back wall and there is damp around the window with paper peeling away. There’s also black mould around the bath and inside the second bedroom window. So I do not recommend this property, we contacted the host but they didn’t offer any compensation and we paid over £400 for 2 nights. The shower is electric over a bath, the bath is very flimsy and sounds like you’ll fall through it. We arrived to a seriously cold property (below 10 degrees) and no logs were provided for the fire. We turned on the electric heaters but took 24hrs to properly warm up.
On a positive note the property is in a nice location positioned on the water with a patio and a small parking space. The second bedroom bed was comfy.

Location was excellent. Associated parking very helpful. Once heated, the cottage is basically comfortable. Good TV

The management company clearly takes a light touch approach to their role. No basic cleaning materials available for kitchen. Leaking shower. Generally poorly equipped property for the price.

Great location.

Key safe, easier to open and no light couldn't see anything.
Television did not work and the TV box did not work. 4 days without TV not good services.
The property was relay cold, and no logs for the log burner.
One sofa was very uncomfortable.

When we arrived the cottage was freezing cold and took two days to heat up with those oil heaters in each room. We first noticed the TV and BT TV box was faulty and with two kids to entertain a TV is a necessity. Then we noticed that the bathroom sink was blocked. I then contacted Host and Stay to be told a maintenance technician would attend the next day. I wasn't given an ETA and nobody turned up however I was told that somebody had attended and their report was that the TV and BT box was beyond repair and sink blockage required a plumber who couldn't arrive till after our 3 night stay. So no TV and a sink we couldn't use. Then I found a puddle of water in the kids bedroom after my 4 year old slipped over. There was a leak coming down from the 2nd floor ensuite, reported this, nobody came out. Not very clean, cobwebs everywhere, windows dirty obscuring the view of the estuary. Dog poo bag left full of poo by the back door. Not good. Would not recommend.

The cottage is very nice and in a great location, parking is a real plus. It could be a top-rated accommodation if managed better. After contacting Host and Stay on our return they apologised for the time spent addressing the problems and have assured us that the issues will be addressed they also made a part refund as a good gesture.

The cottage was very dirty and had not been cleaned properly. Although this has been noted in previous reviews it had clearly not been addressed. The floors were so dirty my granddaughters socks were black within a few minutes of walking into the living room. The sofas and windows were dirty, and the kitchen surfaces were sticky. We discovered hairs and dirt in the bed sheets, this made me check the mattresses. The top bunk bed had a stained and dirty mattress with worn springs, the mattress protector was torn and did not fit. A new was mattress needed. The towel rails were not working with no instructions. The car parking arrangements are not accurate, there is no lock or post as detailed for the space.

As there is no phone signal, we had to spend hours contacting Host and Stay initially by email on the first night and then by telephone the next day when away from Staithes, sending photos and video at their request. They offer to clean the cottage but would not replace the mattress. A cleaner did attend later in the afternoon to spend several hours putting the place right agreeing that the cottage had not been properly cleaned.

Fantastic communication from hosts and the property is in an amazing location. Very very comfy beds and nice Linen.
It was really cold on arrival and took a long time to warm it up with the electric radiators and did notice some dog hair but having a dog myself I know how difficult it can be to get it all. Couldn’t get the coffee machine to work and only left 3 pods when 6 people staying for 2 nights. UHT milk provided in fridge. We use Air B & B alot and for a similar price point we are used to small care packages being left eg milk, bread and eggs for example. But on the whole a great place to stay for a break by the beach.

The property is lovely and in a great location. Nice and quiet with a view of the river. The place is clean with a fully equipped kitchen (except extractor fan)There is everything you need close by, and the parking space was a bonus.

Beware! You book through Booking.com but it’s Host and Stay that you deal with. They want an additional £30 insurance on top of the price you pay with booking.com. The amount of emails, messages and information required from them is just too much.
The kitchen needs an extractor fan or the back door fixing so it can be opened, we only cooked a bacon sandwich and the whole place smelt.
The doorway into the living room is very low and my dad nearly knocked himself out. A warning or some padding might be a good idea.

Great cottage. Fantastic location.

Host and Stay. Terrible management co.pany. Owners should think twice before using them. There is a nasty surprise after booking in the forma of a £250 damage deposit PLUS admin fee! Alternatively, you can opt for a higher one off no refundable fee which is a damage insurance premium. Ridiculous. Finally, the promised parking space.was occupied for the first 24 hours. I had to park in the local car park at the top of the hill at a cost of £6. A month later, I am still waiting for Host and Stay to refund this parking charge. An apology would be nice too!

We’re currently returned from staying in Gulls Haven in Staithes, this is our 4th time of staying in the village. We often come for day trips so we know the area and people quite well and thought we’d give some feedback on our stay.
The location, size of the cottage and comfort of sleep (mattress and pillows) were all been excellent. It is a superb cottage and we really enjoyed having morning and evening drinks on the balcony area over looking the river. It even comes with its own parking space and although it is a bit tight, it is a real nice to have!

Bring some earplugs and a sleep mask if you need quiet and dark to sleep. The cottages are great in Staithes, but the gulls do wake up early and the blinds / curtains don't really stop the morning light coming through. Inside, the noise does bounce around the cottage and if you're after an early night and someone else is up, you can hear every word being said.
We could not get the BT TV or the Nespresso coffee machine to work. We don’t watch much TV when we come here, not or we massive coffee lovers but when you have something and it doesn’t work it is a tad disappointing. We reported this to Host and Stay and a maintenance man visited but there was little they could do and we had zero response back from Host and Stay.
Was really surprised to not see any oven gloves in the kitchen. We’ve never had to bring them before as they’re usually provided. Host and Stay were supposed to have some dropped off, but didn't.
The sofa is getting old and tired and is quite dirty. There are a couple of throws but they’re not very big, was in serious need of a deep clean or replacing.
The cottage in general, wasn’t very clean. On first look it appeared clean, but when you clean surfaces, hoover and mop floors we were surprised at the amount of dirt that came up. This was probably the single biggest let down for us. Host and Stay did offer an additional clean, but we declined the offer as we'd already cleaned it ourselves.
We would stay here again, for all the positive reasons, but the cottage does lack a personal touch, to really make a guest feel welcome.

23/07/2023

Was a bit worried since some of the other comments mentioned vague instructions. Definitely didn't experience that - the host sent a very comprehensive guide on how to find the entrance, parking place, etc. The instructions were very extraordinarily clear.
No real issues inside as well. Property was clean and just as described, with photos reflecting how it actually looks like. You have to give it a minute before hot water kicks in, and the stairs leading into the top bedroom are very steep is about as much as I could potentially complain about - definitely not enough to overshadow all the positives.

Great location centre of Staithes, great views overlooking beck. Property was cosy with good facilities. Comfy bed & good bathrooms. Came with parking space across road which was a bonus even though booking said no parking. Close to shops & next door to cafe selling ice-cream & pizza. Host's App was good with loads of info.

A few issues spoilt the overall experience which is a shame. Sofas need replacing and windows needed a clean (not just the unavoidable seagull poo). Piles of stuff behind the sofa, no table outside, awkwardly high dining table - had to sit on cushions, missing bedside lamp. The non-refundable £10 fee for the deposit was not mentioned when booking. The number of messages from Host & Stay were a bit overwhelming.

A beautiful property in an amazing location with stunning views and scenery. The bed linen and towels were really good quality.
So great to have a parking spot close by.
The balcony is brilliant, but could do with a bit of TLC and refreshing of the plants which were mostly dried up. We also wondered if the property had been unoccupied for some time as the floor and surfaces in the kitchen were a bit 'tacky'.
We would definitely recommend this beautiful place.

We liked the location in Staites. We were able to go to all the other villages on the coast within a 1/2 hour.
In the village of Staites, we liked the food, drink, and Dotty's Cafe fire morning Scones.

We had a difficult time getting the code for the lock box. One of the villagers, from the pub, helped us with that. After we got in, I was sent the property damage disclaimer document. Reverse that!

Also, there is a reason they call it Gull's Haven. There are tons of pigeons and ses gull and in turn bird "poop." When we were sitting outside, one of the birds pooped on my friends new blouse.
They need to get a scary fake plastic owl.

There were no instructions for the heaters. We had to turn on the hot water right away.

If you are handicapped or have walking issues, Straites is not the village for you.

The cottage itself is marvellous - just improved instructions would be appreciated..

Instructions on how to find the cottage could have been clearer - we were sent a link to a map but, with so many tiny cottages on the High Street, it was difficult to find this one which is on a pathway. As the map was online it relied on 4G data which is not available in the area. In addition we only found the parking instructions (for a very convenient private parking space) once we have taken the car back to the public car park.

The house itself was in a great location.
On arrival we found the parking space and cottage easily.
When entering the cottage the temperature was around 5 degrees. We turned all the radiators on but after a couple of hours it was still uncomfortably cold.
There were some Christmas decorations still up and a bin that hadn’t been emptied as well as the smoke alarms whose batteries had run out so were beeping continuously.
We contacted the company about these issues who asked if we had turned the radiators on. No further advice was given. In the end we went to bed as the cold was unbearable.
Whilst the cottage itself was lovely and the location unbeatable it felt unloved and underprepared for visitors. We were only staying two nights so didn’t expect too much but were disappointed one night was a write off due to the cold.

The house is lovely, in a great location (although it has a pretty perilous flight of stairs to the master bedroom…I fell down them so just watch yourself!) but unfortunately for our visit it wasn’t clean. The kitchen surfaces were sticky, there were items still in the draining rack, the kitchen bin hadn’t been emptied, the floors were dusty and sandy, the dining table had crumbs on it, the main bathroom toilet pan was broken and the house didn’t smell fresh. I’m no clean freak but I don’t expect to have to clean down surfaces on a 2 day break when paying a cleaning fee on top of the nightly price. The staff at host and stay responded quickly when made aware and offered to have a cleaner come round, but we were away for some chill out time and I didn’t want my book reading by the fire interrupted by someone wielding a Henry hoover. It’s obviously an ongoing problem as previous reviews state the house being unclean. We visit Staithes often, but we won’t use this company again.

Lovely, quaint cottage. Excellent location, very central with it's own parking space which is rare for the old part of Staithes.
Very quiet, you could not hear any noise from next door at all.
Good facilities in the cottage, very clean with nice decor, it felt homely and the beds were very comfy.
Lovely views over the estuary at the rear and you can just see the sea.
We would not hesitate to stay here again.
Just a small note that was not very clear when booking, there is an insurance fee linked to a security deposit to pay, you can either pay £250 14 days in advance of your stay which will be refunded 14 days after your stay if there is no damage, minus a £10 fee, or you can pay £25 for the policy which is not refunded, I have not encountered this with Airbnb before so will factor this extra payment in when booking in future.

Fantastic stay, a stones throw away from two lovely pubs would certainly recommend the Cod and Lobster for food. Lovely outside terrace and very spacious more room than I though from looking at the images prior. Next do to a lovely little take away place, if have more than two cars be mindful of parking (as one spot outside the cottage one of our cars we parked up at the top of the hill - £20 for 48 hours which is okay)

Overall fabulous stay, would certainly come back, hosts couldn’t do enough for us!

Lovely midweek stay with friends in Gull's Haven Cottage. Very cosy and comfortable with no real issues. The log burner was missing the logs so we got our own. Just for future visitors the bunk beds are best suited for children and due to low sloping ceiling you are unable to stand up to use the shower in the ensuite bathroom in top bedroom. None of this detracted from a lovely stay.

25/09/2022

Delightful location in centre of charming village. Views from rear windows and especially from balcony exceptional. Some low ceilings and steep staircases inevitable in an historic cottage. Interesting local shops with very friendly staff. Hosts recommendations very useful for pub/restaurants and local scenic highlights.

Breakfast was not applicable. Location was good. Comfortable beds.

It was advertised as providing toiletries and there was none, only hand wash. Worktops in kitchen felt tacky. No cloths provided for cleaning. There needs to be safety measures put in place on the outside patio wall. It’s unsafe for children and animals, the wall is low and there is a sheer drop on the other side. Not enough drinking glasses.

Lovely location. Perfect. Good facilities, very clean.

Property getting tired and this is beginning to impact on quality of stay. Could have had some decent outdoor furniture on balcony. Paint flaking off many of windows, mattresses worn out with springs poking up and uncomfortable. Not many glasses.

Just needs a few hundred spending to bring back up to good quality. Not enough problems to wreck the holiday.

Richard

30/07/2022

The location and parking space were great.

The property wasn’t that clean and would benefit from a deep clean, considering what we had to pay for cleaning. The rug in the lounge was dirty and smelt, the handrails up the stairs were sticky and needed a thorough wipe. There was a lot of dog hair in the bedrooms - we understand that pets are allowed but a better hoover is required to remove them. The kitchen facilities were a bit sparse, more glasses are required and a sieve would be appreciated.

24/07/2022

Lovely cottage, clean, great location, handy parking. Well equipped, fairly spacious and cosy accommodation, outdoor terrace larger than expected, great views. Good beds and shower. Would stay again. Only downsides are noisy plumbing and floorboards, loud in 1st floor bedrooms if anyone walks in the attic, terrace not suitable for young kids. Nowhere really to put coats and shoes. Parked second car in Glen Vale car park £10/day for reserved space, v handy. Day trips to Salburn, Runswick Bay, Danby and Flamingo land all worth a visit. Cod and Lobster in Staithes good food and great pizza place next door to the cottage.

The location and the unique seaside cottage. The property is nice but in need of maintenance. The outside area needs attention, in particular the gulls nest outside the kitchen and subsequent mess.

Please see above. In addition, the fridge would not close properly due to freezer being iced up. Bathroom door wouldn’t close then fell off it’s hinges. Unable to use the coffee machine - coffee pods supplied did not fit.

location and lovely cottage with outdoor terrace

the outdoor terrace needs to be more inviting. a table to go with the chairs would be nice and it requires maintenance. smashed plant pots, plants need taking care of, walls need repainting. for £600 fir 2 nights I would expect the property to be in great condition…this just let it down

Perfect location, with a wonderful view at the back. One allocated car parking space, which is essential, as there is no parking available in the village. The log-burner was lovely.

The standard of cleaning was not great. All the bedding was fresh and clean, but the windows were very dirty and the outside space required cleaning. A few light bulbs were missing. The letterbox won't close which allows cold air to get in.

wonderful quaint cottage in the heart of Staithes overlooking the beck. Just perfect. Heads were bumped a few times, at 6ft 7 my son had the most but that will not stop us from returning! We had a great time during our stay, the village had such a friendly atmosphere too

nothing to see here!

Great stay. We stayed midweek so Staithes was less busy that normal. We loved having the place to ourselves. The house was as described, lovely to have the veranda overlooking the river. Great to have 2 bathrooms. We stayed as a group of 4 so didn’t use the 3rd bedroom so couldn’t comment on wether it is too cramped for a group of 6 but I think it would be fine. There are some areas of the house where you need to duck when walking but I am
6ft7in so this is to be an expectation in an old cottage. Overall, I’d visit again. Lovely place.

The location, the parking bay, log burner, oven, washing machine, very comfortable beds, good sharp knives, view across the beck, the tiled floors, interesting books, easily adjusted heating, tea coffee and milk provided, ample hot water, towels and toiletries.

Nowhere to hang coats, hats, or dressing gowns.
The letterbox in the door needs adjusting to stay shut, we held open house parties for two storms; Dudley and Eunice...
The bedroom windows also welcomed these winds. We used kitchen paper to block the draughts.
There is no tin opener.
The extreme height of the dining table -Hilarious!

Although I was unable to go due to Covid my two sons still went and were really happy with their stay at Gull Cottage - in their words :

“We loved the stay. The bed was really comfy and everything was clean and well kept. Nice kitchen with all the amenities. Great location with nice view of the inlet.”

I was only sorry I missed out, it all looked beautiful from the video calls I did with them while they were there and will definitely plan to stay there at some point in the future.

You can’t really go wrong. Lovely atmospheric cottage oozing charm and character in a perfect location only steps from the pub: wonderful deli across the street and doorstep parking.
It doesn’t claim to be perfect but nothing we encountered detracted from our enjoyment.
Go with an open mind and you won’t be disappointed….

Great location right in the centre of a Staithes. Not much around but everywhere walkable. Nice contained yard at the back overlooking the estuary. Great if you have dogs. Good wifi. Accommodation is nicely presented. Fab pizzas and cakes ext door oh and homemade sausage rolls!!

Being picky here but hope it helps Sofas a little uncomfortable, no dishwasher tablets when asked to run dishwasher on exit, luke warm water, low outside wall to the estuary so watch if you are tall or excited dogs. Could do with a deep clean. First bedroom radiator did not work. Was given the wrong pin for the lock box, was told parking was available at £5 all day in public car park, did not know there was a designated parking space until day 2 from the friendly folk next door.

Gulls Haven Cottage is an absolute delight. Cosy and comfortable, with a perfect view of the inlet. Nicely situated just off the main , cobbled , street, where there are several individual shops and places to eat. Staithes is quietly upmarket and casual. We all loved it.

A lovely property in a great place but didn't warrant the amount paid.
The bunk beds , steep stairs and low ceilings proved difficult for our group plus a bit of TLC would definitely benefit this property.
Great views over the inlet from the terrace, comfy beds and nice kitchen but a few things did disappoint.

We fell in love with Gull’s Haven and Staithes!

The location of the cottage is absolutely perfect, in the heart of the village with parking space. The only challenge we had was finding the parking space, as it wasn’t too obvious. However, that’s a minor thing in the overall context. The house is lovely, the view is out of this world!!

Highly recommended….

Lovely cottage right on the Harbour at Staithes. Has everything you need for your stay. We had a family wedding in Sandsend so the location was ideal and perfect base to go off exploring!

Just came back from a really nice holiday at Gull's Haven. Lovely holiday home in the perfect location in Staithes, a stone's throw from 2 pubs and in the old cobbled part. The house has everything you need and comfortably furnished. The loft room with the en suite is up a further flight of stairs that is more like a ladder, so not suitable for someone less secure on their feet. The floor of this room is sloping, but this is part of staying in an old cottage. Perhaps the owners could wedge the bed at the far side to stop both occupants of the bed rolling into each other. Expect a lot of seagulls with this property and they are loud (the clue is in the name), but this will be the case with any holiday cottage in Staithes. The balcony/terrace is really nice with a lovely view of Cowbar and the river, but it is not private as members of the public walking across the bridge do like to look at you, it didn't bother me but if absolute privacy is important it's not for you. The wall of the terrace is low in places so if you have a toddler or an energetic dog you won't let them out onto it alone, it is a fall to certain death. But with the dog on a lead we all enjoyed sitting out with a glass of wine in the evening. The place is set up to accept dogs which is very thoughtful, hard floors everywhere mean there is little signs of previous pets. There are no smoke alarms at all in the house, which I am sure are required for any holiday let, but this is something that is fixable by the owners. Also the bathroom door didn't shut easily nor lock which is something else the owners need to sort. Kitchen is really nice with everything you need, we had a Sainsbury's delivery straight to the cottage on day 1 and they found it easily - it's not difficult to find - next to the Cobbles ice cream shop as the main road goes round a corner. The parking space is a real advantage, though with all the cars reversing and turning round on the corner I wouldn't want to park a flashy car there. I think it was expensive for what it was, but this is August in 2021 and pressure on holiday lets is tight with travel restrictions, so I don't begrudge paying for it as the owners will have just had a year with no lettings. All in all a great holiday home; with some smoke detectors and the ability to lock the door when you are sat on the loo I would happily recommend.

The cottage location is good and the private parking space a real asset in this village. The inside is OK but external areas are dirty and unkempt

Lovely cottage in a great position in Staithes, with the bonus of a car parking space which is quite rare in the area. Balcony was a great bonus and a sun trap for drinks and people watching in the late afternoon!

My partner and I booked a few days get away post lockdown and picked staithes Gulls cottage is a little underwhelming from the front but the moment we went inside we fell in love It’s a beautiful cottage, in the perfect location and furnished to a high standard with everything you could need Stay NorthYorkshire were so helpful with info prior to arrival and the cottage was spotless It can sleep and accommodate 6 comfortably, which is not always the case with these cottages and we are planing on returning later in the year with another couple The stairs to the attic are a little steep, but take your time and you’ll be fine - the outside space is lovely and gets the sun in the afternoon and evening I could not fault it in anyway and what would could you want?

Lovely house in charming Staithes. Mother and father in law, sister in law, wife and Baby joined me for a week. The seagulls are MASSIVE and LOUD and expect to get woken up by them. This is the seaside though. Handsome terrace outside but no gas for for gas fired bbq. The sun goes down on the terrace, which is beautiful. The window in the top room does not open, which is a problem in July, making it quite difficult to sleep. Lovely touches throughout the house including a wonderful book selection. I can’t fault the cleanliness, which is so important in these COVID-19 times. A special pad from which to explore the North Yorkshire coast.

We had a lovely stay in Staithes at Gull's Haven. The property is in a brilliant location for Staithes and easily accessible to the gorgeous beaches nearby at Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Whitby. The owners were really quick to respond to our queries which we really appreciated. Thank you!

Great cottage lovely location very well equipped and clean. Very good instructions and response from the agents. The master bed room is better suited to 1 person as the bed is tricky to access.

A cozy but spacious house in a spectacular location. Just a minutes wall to the lovely Cod and Lobster pub which is hugely friendly. The amenities are great and it's a lovely house to return back to after a day walking the cliff tops.
