Neighborhood
Alnwick, a charming market town nestled in the picturesque county of Northumberland, England, is a place where history and natural beauty merge seamlessly. With its roots dating back to Roman times, Alnwick has a rich and storied past that is still very much alive today.

The town is perhaps best known for its stunning Alnwick Castle, a majestic medieval fortress that has stood for over a thousand years. This iconic landmark has played a significant role in both British history and pop culture, serving as a filming location for movies and television series, including the beloved Harry Potter films. Its beautifully manicured gardens, known as the Alnwick Garden, are equally enchanting, featuring ornate fountains, an enchanting treehouse restaurant, and a fascinating poison garden filled with deadly plants.

Alnwick's historic town centre is a delightful mix of cobbled streets, charming shops, and traditional pubs. It exudes an inviting atmosphere that beckons visitors to explore its nooks and crannies. The town's market square is a hub of activity, hosting a weekly market where locals and tourists alike can browse an array of goods, from fresh produce to artisan crafts.

Nature enthusiasts will find Alnwick's surroundings equally captivating. The nearby Northumberland National Park offers miles of unspoiled wilderness, ideal for hiking and outdoor adventures. Alnwick is also a gateway to the stunning Northumberland coastline, featuring sandy beaches, dramatic cliffs, and the Farne Islands, a haven for birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts.

Getting Around
The closest train station to Alnwick can be found in Alnmouth, which is roughly a 10-minute drive from the lodge so local towns in Northumberland can easily be reached via rail. The station has direct routes to Newcastle, Edinburgh, York, Leeds, London and Bristol.

There are a number of bus stops throughout Alnwick and the main bus station is just a short from walk away from Forest Green Lodge. Hop on the X20 which takes you through to Newcastle with stops in beautiful areas of Northumberland like Alnmouth and Amble. The X18 route travels between Newcastle and Berwick-upon-Tweed with stops in Morpeth, Amble and Seahouses.

The nearest airport is Newcastle International Airport, 35 miles away from Alnwick.

The location was ideal, right near Alnwick centre.

In order to check in you have to pay a security deposit (which I could not see advertised anywhere on the booking!) - this is generally ok, but they ask for £250 which frankly is ridiculous. Alternatively, you can pay £25 for insurance, again, not advertised when booking! This kind of took the shine off our holiday slightly as this was an unexpected extra charge straight away. Almost wouldn't mind if it was made clear before booking!

The property also states there is parking, however this is not true. Thankfully we found a free long stay carpark nearby, but it was very frustrating as we hadn't planned on this, and of course worried about the car all week.

The lodge itself was very dusty and hadn't been cleaned well. Also the bed is tiny. Not sure where in the world it's classed as a double!

There is a path leading to the lodge which is overgrown and not taken care of. Also space around the lodge is full of nettles and weeds. A shame as they go to the effort of putting chairs outside but it's not possible to sit there. It's also very poorly lit so walking down it at night, especially after a few beers, is ropey to say the least.

Last but certainly not least, the constant emails, texts and messages from the host before, during and after our stay were deeply off putting and annoying. Getting 4 separate messages about the check out date /time is really unnecessary and again, takes the shine off your holiday.

Definitely would recommend looking elsewhere if you want a relaxing and peaceful stay, and your car to be secure. Value for money is poor and didn't feel massively secure.

Great location, comfortable, modern interior, good kitchen facilities.

The bed was a little on the narrow side. The garden needs weeding and tidying up.

Quirky decor: comfortable inside. Location good for town and local attractions.

Outside area full of weeds, no care taken at all; no chance to sit outside. Lack of storage for clothes and other items. Parking, very hit and miss to be close enough to the property. No outside recycling bin. Not a fan of the insurance waiver or the amount of messages received.

Perfectly situated - Alnwick Castle is literally around the corner!
The lodge was clean, well furnished and calm. Would be nice also for a longer stay.
The only thing you should be aware of: This is a professional owner, you have to pay extra for damage insurance. Also, you get a lot of messages.

Good location and good facilities.

The outside area and path to the property were very overgrown, which was a shame as we would have liked to sit outside.
It would be useful for guests to know where the nearest parking is before they arrive.

Excellent location, very near Alnwick Castle. Right in the centre of the town yet very quiet.
Cabin was just as expected with everything one could need. Decor was very contemporary and delightful.
Parking was easy a short distance away by the Castle as advised.
Overall we had a lovely holiday.

Bright and quiet

A big hassle to book lots of additional costs that weren't mentioned at start. Very very hot and stuffy all glass. Then two weeks after our stay accused of breaking something, which we didn't but it really wiped out any good thoughts. Parking free but a good walk away with bags

The accommodation was just right for us as a couple. Easy to find and centrally located. Parking was flagged up before we booked as possibly a problem but we didn't find this an issue. The layout was great and being at the end of the access way meant it was very quiet. There are plenty of restaurants and pubs in Alnwick, so being centrally located made access really easy.
We had a great time.

Nice little lodge in the yard behind some housing. Comfortable, nice facilities.

Hard to find. Property managers messaged after I’d booked saying I needed to take out contents insurance before they’d give me access. Constantly bombarded by messages from the agents throughout the weekend reminding me to leave on time.

The positives - The apartment is lovely and well equipped. It is in a fantastic spot walkable to everything!
The negatives when it rained the guttering drainpipe was so loud it drowned out the TV.
When the radiators were cooling down they made constant intermittent loud bangs which in the middle of the night disturbed sleep.
On the day of checkout the cleaners arrived at 9:20 and were just about to let themselves in until I stopped them and asked then to come back. They signed and then sat outside until we left which was incredibly off putting.
This was also disappointing as we were already losing an hour of our stay due to the clocks changing.

Double bed in the lodge - would have preferred a king size and i think there is room for it but it's a personal preference

The apartment is in a great location just opposite Alnwick Castle and within walking distance of everything in the town. It has a well equipped kitchen and it was great to have a dishwasher too.

Centrally located. Superbly equipped. Quiet and secluded location.

Nothing really but if anything then foliage could do with trimming back on steps leading up to chalet, however it was pointed out that the garden works were in progress

Had everything two people could need. Comfortable bed, nice shower

The windowsills were very dirty, obviously no-one had thought to roll up the blinds to check. The chrome work in the bathroom was not as clean as you would expect, and the outside area was full of weeds, with a sign on the fence asking us to ‘bear with, as garden under construction’, but it would only have taken an hour to pull up the weeds from the bark clippings, so not what I would have expected

Great convenient location close to attractions and town. Well equipped and homely accommodation, nice touch to provide tea/coffee and milk ?
Overall, it is clean and tidy, but a few dusty areas(lamp and kitchen stool bases)

The only downside is that there is no private parking, but given the location that is understandable. Finding close by on street parking can be difficult in peak season.
Decor a bit too 'fussy' for me, too many cushions and fake plants, but that's just personal taste.

Not a negative, just an observation the lodge was very warm, and the weather wasn't even that hot. A fan would have been appreciated, especially to help cool the bedroom and aid sleep.

Beautifully decorated and designed. Great location. Everything you could possibly need on hand. And very spacious ??

The outsides of small double bed/mattress had no real support if you went too close you’d roll off.
Unpleasant smell coming from the drains in the bathroom.
Repetitive echoing sound that you could hear in the lounge that came from the drain pipe every time it rained.

The lodge is perfectly located in the centre of Alnwick with pubs and shops a few minute walk. The people and place is so friendly , with locals helping with recommendations etc. It's also a great spot to connect with all the other great located places such as bamburgh or alnmouth.

The lodge was immaculate and had absolutely everything and more we needed.

It would of been great if our dog could have joined us, but understand that not all places take them.

The lodge and experience was 10/10 otherwise.

Location spot on

That you could not park your car at the property or near the property. Property not good for people with mobility issues. Property was not clean. You could not get a parking spot in the place they said you could. Even if you did you have to remove it within 24 hrs and not go back for 4hrs. They do not tell you that when you book.whole of the area is disc parking only other than short stay or long stay. So they get taken really quickly even though the developer tells you differently. The lodge is through a main door, then a court yard with steps. Imagine trying to do that with luggage from a car park when you have mobility issues. The lodge smelt bad, there was a air freshener plugged in but completely empty.does the cleaner not check? Lodge is spacious but no storage. Went to hang the towels in the bathroom on the hook on the door, fell off, hook had been clued on the door and was unsuccessful. Walked into cobwebs from the door to the bathroom and from the light shade in bedroom to the door. Was greeted by spiders and wood cutters crawling on the bedroom floor. There is a wild garden growing in your seating area outside. But did they not clean the floor? When I checked was there parking on the question and answers there was a response of yes parking for no 35. When I brought this to their attention 10 mins later the question was no longer on the website. Sofa and chair so low to the floor so uncomfortable. Made for children not adults.

A really comfortable lodge, which was ideal for our short stay in Northumberland. A nice touch to have a pint of milk in the fridge and a few tea bags/sugar/coffee. Everything had been thought about.

Location-wise, we made the most of being in Alnwick and so close to the castle. Free parking is close by, as mentioned by others.

Nothing

Marilyn

comfortable bed - housekeeping very helpful and sweet

no hot water the first day (these things happen) but only luke-warm water the third day. WAY too much clutter: there were little lamps and artificial plants all over the place and way too many decorative pillows.

The Location and the property are exceptional, the perfect location for a solo visitor or couple looking for a quiet break. It's inspirational in some ways, and a must see.
The perfect property for some "Me time"!

As previously stated the property and the concept is exceptional, and the perfect location, but Alnwick is an old town and Narrowgate is in the shadow of the castle walls, the lighting issue is ine caused by poor council lighting one which thr hosts are pushing the council to resolve, but may find difficulty in a medievil town, access is only an issue for the first time visitor. Please do not let this put you off.

Maureen

no breakfast, location very good

too much style and not enough substance. Seating area was not comfortable, should have been more hanging space and places to put clothing. Bathroom towel rail did not work, shower came away from the wall, shower cubical was too small. Needed outside lights for walking too the lodge at night.

10/08/2022

The location was great for the castle (but not the gardens, which are a lot further away than you expect), and the quirky property and its design were fun.

The property seemed to be in the middle of a renovation site - but that will no doubt be finished soon. The Wifi didn’t work (on, but not connecting to the internet) and the hosts didn’t seem to know what to do about it, even though they were pleasant and keen to help. Parking is a bit difficult, especially at busy times. The property was all about design - colour and style - but some of the furniture and fittings seemed rather flimsy / ricketymeven though the place is apparently brand new, and I wonder how well it will last with occupants coming and going all the time?

Well equipped, very welcoming feel, great location, spotless.
Beautifully decorated

Consider changing smoke detector in kitchen area for a heat detector (wiring regs do suggest this) as anytime we used the oven it would set the smoke detector of this wasnt a problem as I could reach them but my partner would have struggled if she was alone

It was really lovely and the location was perfect. The design of the chalet and the facilities were absolutely great.

The bed wasn't big enough - I'm not sure if it was a small double or the mattress wasn't firm enough but we dipped towards each other which unfortunately made it very unsatisfactory. Other than that, the chalet was fabulous!

The location is excellent, quiet and secure yet very close to Alnwick Castle. The lodge is as new and is very well appointed. The interior design elements are very tasteful and colour coordinated.

The bed is not king size and there is an over abundance of soft furnishings in the way of cushions and throws.

18/07/2022

The location is great and the lodge is tucked away behind a main street so very peaceful. The lodge was fully equipped for our stay with everything provided.

It's not a dislike but it would be helpful if WHAT THREE WORDS were used to locate the property. Didn't love the kitchen chairs but that is personal taste. I found them uncomfortable for eating. The fridge is quite noisy but I am sensitive to noise.
