Fabulous cottage in easy walking distance of Barnard's Castle. Really well equipped kitchen and comfy lounge. easy to use central heating. I would have liked a bit more bedding, but the bathroom was lovely and plenty of towels.

For me it was a perfect location.
Comfortable, clean environment. Nice touch with the welcoming basket ?

It was a bit cold and the 2 seater was small in the living room.
The fan in the bathroom needs a clean.

A clean, comfortable and cosy house in a quiet area near the Tees.
Lovely hamper discovered on arrival, Prosecco in the fridge and plenty of towels, loo rolls, bedding for longer stays and kitchen essentials.
Logs for the wood burning stove in good supply.
Heating system/ thermostat easy to use if weather gets nippy.
Nice comfy bed.
Games, dog bowls/blankets, hoovers, brooms and even a sewing kit under the stairs - the owners have thought of everything! There’s also a small desk and chair for those who wish to work.
A ten-fifteen minute walk into the town, with plenty of independent shops, cafes and pubs, there’s also a Morrisons there.
Thank you.

Lovely cottage, nicely decorated, good quality furniture and equipment and lovely garden

Did not like fact we could not operate/control heating, no information on how to operate heating even though there was information on everything else.
Wifi was very poor and as tv was all streaming this was very frustrating.
Whilst in general there was plenty of equipment there was no bread knife

Barnard Castle is a lovely place to stay, we were near the castle, so had some lovely views and the walks are lovely.

The cottage doesn't have great parking, when we stayed there was work being done next door, which we were not told about before our stay and a grumpy builder in a red van who just gave us looks! There were always vans on the drive parking area which made it a nightmare! Nosey neighbour kept a close eye on things! Always had her head out her window ! Sofas uncomfortable and stank of dogs.

The location was perfect! We were so close to the centre and had a lovely view of Barnard Castle at the bottom of the road. We really appreciated the hamper left by the hosts and all the facilities in the property such as fridge/freezer, washing machine and dishwasher came in good use. There were so many nice restaurants and lovely walks nearby. We we really pleased that there was a space to park one car right outside the property.

The check out time of 10am and the check in time of after 4pm

Really good stay thank you. Lovely property, great hamper, location spot on, arrangements all good.

A disappointment though was no wifi available, which we raised with your help line only to receive no call-back as had been promised. This may or may not have been something that could have been be resolved of course but the lack of a call-back was the issue for me. A very weak mobile signal meant no alternative connection was available.

First of all I would like to make it very clear that this property was absolutely excellent. I shall explain why I have knocked points of during my review. The pros of Cummings and Goings were many including the excellent welcome pack, spotlessly clean property, easy to use TV (Which cannot often be said these days), extremely comfortable beds, plenty of towels and toilet roll, well equipped kitchen, great décor, comfortable temperature, powerful shower, very quiet location and a wonderful view of the castle at the end of the drive. The only downside of the property we found was the lack of instructions for the hob which we eventually worked out how to operate.

Unfortunately I don’t have anything good to say about the management company of this property, Host and Stay. They have a very haphazard approach to responding to email enquiries. I booked the property and paid the non-refundable fee. Only at that point was I made aware of a previously undisclosed admin fee of £10. I searched the site and there was absolutely no mention of it anywhere. The fee was apparently charged in order to process the refund of the £250 damage deposit which was taken from my credit card on 1st April 2023 and later refunded on 25th April 2023. My visit to the property was from 14th to 17th April 2023. It took 3 emails dated 24th January 2023, 28th January 2023 and 2nd February 2023 before anyone at Host and Stay deigned to respond when I challenged this admin fee. In an era where I can transfer money to any bank account in the world from my mobile phone in a matter of moments I felt that the £10 fee was scandalous. The fact that it was hidden until the non refundable fee had been paid made it very sinister. I understand the need to protect property owners from rogue visitors so the damage bond was very reasonable. Why it had to be taken 14 days before our visit and held for a further 8 days after we had vacated is beyond me particularly in view of the barrage of messages from Host and Stay prior to our departure making it clear that their housekeeping team would arrive shortly after the check out time so it would be apparent that same day had we caused any damage. I did successfully challenge the hidden £10 admin fee which has also been refunded but the whole episode has left me with a sour taste in my mouth. Suffice to say I will not book any property that is managed by Host and Stay at any point in the future which is unfortunate as Cummings and Goings is a lovely property.

Well Barnard castle is way better than expected! I thought it’d be for Oldes (which it has lots of) but plenty of pubs and outdoor walks etc. I’d especially recommend Bagul for curry and cocktails. Cottage and host are lovely, the care package is borderline excessive and lots of wood for the fire which is really nice to see. Had a great week.

We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage. It's well located, within walking distance of Barnard Castle town centre, but in a secluded spot which avoids you being exposed to the noise of the roads or traffic.

Lots of nice walks nearby along the river and plenty to do in the surrounding area.

The house itself is clean and nicely decorated, with comfortable beds and high quality bedding and towels. The kitchen has plenty of glasses, crockery, utensils and appliances - as well as a great welcome hamper with snacks and supplies. No complaints whatsoever.

The accommodation was excellent and very comfortable. The food basket was a surprise and well enjoyed. Immaculate clean. Very close to the river walks, the castle including the rabbits in the evening, and the town centre. Lots of shops, places to eat and supermarkets. High Force was brilliant including the ice cream. Good walks close by. Close to Beamish, Durham and other places. All very good,

Nothing that we could find. Minor points were the outside garden which was tiny but suitable. Car parking a little tight but workable.

Arrived and looked ok but when i walked through the door, wow, omg wow, so clean, well presented, fell in love with it.
The welcome basket was a lovely touch, including well, lets not spoil the surprise too much.
Had all that you needed for a very comfortable stay.
Sofa's and beds very comfortable. 5 star property. inside is bigger than it looks from the outside.
Easy enough to find, although i did miss the turning, but that's me.
Great location, quiet, below the castle, short walk in to the high street and it is up hill.
Best place for food that i found was the "3 horse shoes" as a side note.
Getting out and about in the countryside is easy, High Force water fall and walk is worth it and not to far from Tan Hill Inn, worth a trip out to.
Hosts very pleasant to talk to and very helpful.

Parking, a bit short of space, just enough for one car at the cottage.

A wonderful place - all the home comforts you need and so beautifully furnished and decorated. And a gorgeous little outside area at the back.

Really cosy yet modern at the same time.

And a very generous welcome food box.

Convenient for the town - just a short walk up past the castle to the centre. Lots of places to eat and drink.

Easily one of, if not THE, best AirBnBs I've ever stayed in.

Stunning Cottage. We arrived late and the Cottage was lovely and warm. It is decorated to a very high standard and all appliances are top spec. All the bedding and towels are top quality and the Cottage was spotless. Love the pictures around the Cottage. The basket of goodies on arrival were amazing and also the items in the fridge. This all makes a big difference. I have stayed in alot of Air Bnb and this Cottage is by far the best one. A short walk into town. We also cycled to Middleton in Teesdale, you can pick up the Tees Trail and cycle the old rail track, 20mile round trip. We didn't want to leave and will definitely be back. This Cottage is a must.

We had a relaxing time at the cottage. We chose this property because of the location just across the bridge from Barnard Castle and because pets are allowed on the ground floor of the property. Access was by a key safe for which we had already been sent the code. There was a comprehensive book of instructions about the cottage which was helpful. The cottage was very clean and welcoming due in part to the comprehensive included grocery pack. The cottage kitchen is very well equipped with cooker, hob, microwave, 50% fridge/freezer, crockery, pans etc. The two bedrooms included 1 with double bed and 1 at the back with twin beds. There is a large screen smart TV which included Netflix and other apps and I was able to use my own Firestick TV. The 4G internet wasn't working when we arrived, however the owner responded immediately by SMS text with advice how to restart, which restored the service. It subsequently worked at speeds between 3MBps to 22MBps. The parking is just in front of the cottage. Although it seemed a little tight for me, as I am currently driving a 5m long T5 campervan, I was able to leave sufficient room for others to pass and none of the neighbours complained. There are lots of excellent dog walks within walking distance. Your dog's quick morning and evening exercise needs to be done away from the property by crossing the road. This is busy at peak times, so keep your wits about you. This cottage was a good place to stay which I recommend.

barnyard castle is a delightful town and we enjoyed being so close.
the bed is good, wood burning stove, too. welcome package thoughtful.
one must cross a busy thoroughfare to access a place for the dogs to do their business, often stressful in the early morning. kitchen well outfitted. we were easily able to self-cater. place looks more spacious than on the pictures. communication with an agency is less personal than with the other 3 airbnb locations we had on this trip. all that said, we enjoyed our time there.
