Neighborhood
Rosella Cottage is nestled in the heart of the North York Moors in the peaceful valley of Rosedale. The area was part of 19th industrial Yorkshire, with its ironstone mines, kilns and moorland railway. Today the pretty Rosedale Abbey village is ideal for those looking to take time out and enjoy rural life. Rosella Cottage is within walking distance of three great pubs and two cafes.
You can enjoy long walks exploring the moors and valleys. Discover Blakey Ridge to the Northwest and follow the River Seven as it flows to the River Rye near Malton. Rosedale is also famous for its glass so be sure to check out the glass blowing workshop which was established here several years ago.
Just 15 minutes away by car, you’ll find the small market town of Kirkbymoorside. While you’re here, explore the amazing art galleries which burst with unique artwork. Kirkbymoorside’s market square boasts award-winning, independent shops, and a 760-year-old weekly market where you can find heaps of local produce.
Getting Around
Rosedale Cottage is within walking distance of all that Rosedale has to offer and within 30 minutes’ drive time of Pickering, Hutton Le Hole, Kirkbymoorside, Helmsley and Malton.
Pickering train station is roughly 20 minutes away by car so you can explore villages in the North Yorkshire Moors like Grosmont and Goathland easily. Whitby train station can be reached within 35 minutes by car and has routes to Lealholm, Danby, Kildale and Middlesbrough.
There are two bus stops in Rosedale Abbey and the 173 bus route travels through to Pickering.
Guests have access to the full property. The keys to the property are accessed via a secure key safe and full details will be provided shortly before your arrival date.
Free parking is available in the small free car park opposite the cottage. Alternatively, free on street parking is also available.

the location was really good ,a lovely little village nothing

Extremely well equipped. Location excellent. The cottage has had massive improvements from the pictures you use to advertise, I would suggest you update the picture as doesn't do it justice. Bed room and the bathroom very spacious and comfortable. Would recommend. Stairs were steep but knew this from reading other reviws. Lots of logs stacked near the back door with no burner , maybe remove or re install log burner. Back door full glass panel which does let a lot of light in but could do with a curtain or blind for an evening. None of the above impaired on our stayand would definitely book again!

Quiet location, small village with a pub close by No notification on info regards very steep internal stairs to bedroom and bathroom; could be an issue for older people.

A great little cottage in a nice little village with a pub and village store. It had everything that you need for a great stay. The location of the key box should of been a bit clearer. Searching the front of the property and asking neighbours then found it was at the rear. Reading the comments lots of people had the same problem.

Upstairs was bright and airy, Good shower. Nice quiet location, Plenty of parking. Close to amenities. When entering the cottage it had a horrible smell about it (Downstairs), Like a mix of dog and cooking residues. Microwave dirty, Build up of dirt/dust on kitchen floor some, surfaces and ledges. Outside area separate to cottage along a pathway through a gate and once realised, only used once as it was slightly overgrown and not really appealing. Cupboard liners for crockery were old, stained and grotty. Generally messy and cluttered downstairs. We checked out 2 days early in the end as it wasn't for us and as the weather got warmer we didn't want to sit indoors in a non ventilated living room! Note. I know it says dog friendly, we don't have dogs but are dog lovers, We have stayed in 2 other dog friendly cottages in the last 12 months that were very well kept to the point you wouldn't know if one had been there or not prior to your stay.

Cottage itself is lovely, situated in a very lovely part of North Yorkshire. However, our stay was disrupted by having to deal with the cleanliness issues we encountered upon arrival, mainly within the kitchen; it simply had not been cleaned at all from previous occupiers. Looking at a few reviews elsewhere on the internet for this property, it unfortunately does not appear to be a ‘one-off’. We raised these immediately with ‘Host & Stay’ but after a day or so, it was informed to us that the issue was not able to be resolved during our stay, prompting further action from our side. While we did get our ‘cleaning fee’ back (as a result of escalating to Airbnb, hot Host & Stay refused to refund anything). It doesn’t really compensate not being able to use the cottage as a self-catering facility and the amount of time spent between Host & Stay and Airbnb trying to get the issue resolved, which did spoil our time away somewhat. While the 20% discount on future stays with ‘Host & Stay’ was appreciated, it doesn’t unfortunately tempt us based on this experience. Overall, lovely property in a picturesque location but just a shame on the experience we had. Hopefully others will differ and be much better.

We spent a weekend there in March, 2022. The cottage is lovely, equipped with everything we needed, and the bedroom is gorgeous. Enjoyed the peace, had a few walks, everything was just so beautiful, I wish I lived there.

Beautiful location, easy to find, with good parking, great local amenities. Rosella Cottage was cosy and welcoming and well equipped. In this day and age, there was an excellent, all important great Wifi signal, absolutely no mobile signal (this can be considered a bonus!). An overhaul of the kitchen equipment would be a bonus - with the addition of some sharp knives, and a bit of maintenance on the cooker. Would also have been handy to have a couple of rugs/blankets in the living room.

I didn't give it thought it at the time I stayed (sometime in early 2020), but given recent publicity around this B&B (I saw an article shared on a popular social media microblogging site) I think it only right that I share my experience. The host is superb, a pleasure to deal with. That old-fashioned salt-of-the-earth type who would walk a mile to save you a step. The facilities when I stayed were simply beyond compare, far and away one of the best places I have stayed in all my weary years of travelling from place to place with work. There are few places I have stayed which give you that "home away from home" feeling right from the moment you step across the threshold, and this is one of those. Every moment spent here was a joy, and haste the day I will return again.

Would recommend, definitely give this place a go. Reasonable prices and is beautiful, five stars for sure.

Fabulous cannot recommend enough, definitely be going next year too! Thank you Rosella cottage! Beautiful accommodation, wonderful views, and run by fabulous friendly people.

Spent a week here recently for work purposes. We were impressed with the cleanliness and attention to detail. There are several pubs witing walking distance and the cottage is well located for scenic walks and other adventures. The owners were superb in ensuring we had everything we needed as well as giving us some tips on local attractions. I will certainly be looking to revist once 'normal service' resumes as I would like to have a stay here for leisure purposes. Thank you for a superb stay.

Place was disgustingly filthy when we arrived, nothing was clean, one of the pans had been put away with bacon grease on it! Then, when we raised our concerns, we were abused by the owners and it became especially heated when they told us that COVID-19 was all a hoax and the house DIDN’T need to be sanitised before we arrived. Stay away.
28/04/2021
Stayed here and never again! It hadn’t been thoroughly cleaned, kitchen and bathroom not disinfected, including kitchen equipment Owner seems very laxidasical about the whole issue around us at the time and never thought to leave a bad review until I saw what they were saying in our local newspaper. In these unprecedented times when the self catering holiday market is reopening, this attitude is the last thing we need. In fact, judging the whole situation, because of people like this, we probably wouldn’t even visit rose dale or surrounding areas. They are letting perfectly good clientele down as well as other restaurants, eateries down too! Shocking and irresponsible to say the very least!

What a refreshing change. How lovely to experience a piece of normality in these crazy times. Would highly recommend. Spotless. Cosy. As described.

Rosella Cottage is a little gem of a place. It's cosy yet spacious, with everything you'd need for a great few days exploring the North York moors. We'd highly recommend xx

Rosella cottage is very well located in a beautiful village. Don't be confused by the listing - it is in the village of Rosedale Abbey not in Pickering. I spent 4 nights there in July. The surrounding moorland up above the valley is just fabulous. I spent many happy hours cycling and walking over the moors and through local villages. The half hour drive to the coast around Sandsend/Whitby/Robins Hood Bay is in itself very scenic. Rosella Cottage has absolutely everything you might need. The lounge is cosy and comfortable and the kitchen small but very well equipped. Upstairs the bedroom feels very roomy and luxurious having a surprisingly high ceiling and a lovely large en-suite shower room. I would definitely recommend and hope to return sometime soon. Although access is via a coded key safe, a neighbour who looks after the cottage is charming and helpful.

Rosella is perfectly situated in the middle of Rosedale and has all the amenities you could need. Check in and out was straightforward, and there was a lovely guide to everything we needed to know about the cottage.
