Retreat By The Sea

Amazing location, 5 mins from the beech, no problems parking, very easy to find and access the property. I did not realise that the property was a ground floor apartment (perhaps I just didn't look closely enough), it wasn't too much of a problem but there was some noise from the upstairs flat (assuming they have laminate floor up there instead of carpets!) , wasn't excessive or anything, just unexpected. The area was very peaceful and quiet overall. <br/>The property itself was very nicely laid out and clean and tidy. If I was being picky I would say the flooring throughout needs replacing and the bath needs resealing and mending but these are very minor issues and is more an aesthetic issue than functional. <br/>Overall we enjoyed our stay. ?

A lovely place, great location with the beach a few minutes walk plenty of space to relax, shops a few minutes walk we parked the car and went everywhere on foot including the perfect walk to the next town.<br/>The downside is the place is a little rough around the edges and could do with a spruce, although very calm and relaxing.<br/>There were no bin bags provided, no kitchen cloth to wipe the sides or kitchen spray to clean the sides and no hand soap.<br/>All of the above making it difficult to clean up after yourself if you had wanted to cook (we didn’t).<br/>Also the early 10 am check out on a weekend made us feel rushed (check out in most places is 11).<br/>I would recommend this place and would probably stay again if I was in the area.

We booked through Booking.com and they marketed this as a 2-bed house. This is not a house, but a ground floor apartment. <br/>We could hear the people above very easily, once being awoken by them shouting. <br/>The property was not very clean and it is generally tired and grubby. There is still a crack in the bath that I saw someone on a previous review mention.

We felt that to be asked for yet more money in case we broke something was a bit of a con. £300 with £10 not refunded or £30 non refundable. The place is already on the expensive side as it is. <br/>There could definitely be a superking in the main bedroom and the second bedroom is a very small double. Which could benefit from curtains as it’s very very light.<br/>The tv in the living room is really small, could do with an update. <br/>There is a crack in the bath which I reported, I cut myself on it. <br/>Great position for the beach and nice and quiet.

The apartment was as previewed in the photographs and I have no major complaints! It was a lovely location, on a private street with parking and short distance to the beach. The rooms were lovely and adequate for a small group or family. My points would be that the experience did not feel very personal as it is run by a company. They barely provided any supplies that I thought would be expected in a self catering Airbnb (such as salt and pepper, kitchen spray and sponge). There are plenty Airbnb's which provide this, and it is a basic commodity in the kitchen, therefore I was a bit disappointed when I was told they don't supply these. The walls were thin, so I could hear the neighbors upstairs which made me feel quite exposed, and the home fairly non-private. I also did not feel it was super clean. The couch was dusty, with dog hair still present, and there were still father's day cards in the living room from the previous guest the weekend before...IT was Ok, there are better Airbnbs.

Host & Stay insist on a damage waiver policy which is easy to overlook. As a long term user of Air BnB I have never come across this before and it took me unawares. <br/>The accommodation itself was perfect.<br/>We came across a minor issue with the flat (the CO alarm was out of battery). I found having to communicate via Host and Stay frustrating compared to talking to the owner directly.

Great location, close to the beach, lovely walks and friendly village. <br/>Great stay will go back.<br/><br/>We had no concerns and where pleased and happy with our stay.

My impression of this property was that thought had been put into the furnishings and decor. The bed linen and towels were lovely and clean. The modern kitchen was fully equipped but not a drop of cleaning fluid was provided which was, I think, an oversight.

We have just returned from bank holiday weekend at retreat by the sea and loved every minute. The apartment is beautifully finished and spotlessly clean. There is everything you could possibly need and it’s so light and spacious, we visited with our two small children one aged 4 years and 7. months and we had so much room. Our 4 year old didn’t want to leave the holiday house and in honesty neither did we. <br/>The location is perfect right by the beech and a short walk to the village centre. We had no problem parking when we arrived. We would not hesitate to book again. Thank you so much

A pretty little gem.<br><br>The place is immaculate. Lovely modern decor, super clean linen, clean bathroom. Nice space to be in.<br>Little garden- not big enough for children but I don’t have any. Does have a cute table and chair to sit out if the weather is nice.<br>The town is well equipped with some takeaways, shops, restaurants etc.<br>The beach is gorgeous and a stone throw from the house/studio.<br>Lovely little community garden in front of the property.<br><br>The downside is the on road parking. Due to it being so close to the beach others park their in the day but it didn’t detract from a well priced, well positioned stay on the N/E coast. Pretty and a lovely walk to Saltburn along the beach only a few miles.

Location, perfect close to town and the beach . Apartment clean and functional, everything you need for an enjoyable stay .<br/><br/>Bedroom with courtyard outlook requires a better curtain for privacy , it doesn't close fully .

Had everything we needed and landed on a hidden gem for location. 3miles of beach at the end of the road for our pup to run about! <br/><br/>Definitely recommend walking 2miles along the beach to Saltburn, for bars and cafes, but Marske itself has a spot on selection!

A lovely property in an ideal location near Marske town and the beach is just at the bottom of the road! Craig's is a must do for brunch and Lemongrass Thai in Redcar for takeaway dinner!

One of very few in Marske at not bad price. Great for a short stay, kitchen stylish & well stocked. Lovely bathroom, shower easy to use. Great little outdoor area. Very comfy sofas in sunny lounge. We had a comfortable stay, & would be happy to come back again if in the area. Good communication from the host.

Retreat by the sea was great. Clean modern and well equipped.<br>It was lovely to be 100 meter walk from the beach. And a scenic 40 min walk to Saltburn on sea.

In a lovely position near a very beautiful beach. <br/>The flat is tastefully decorated with a cosy lounge and clean.<br/>The accomodation has a constant change in levels and rugs that are quite slippy not good for anyone who is unsteady.<br/>There are basic things missing, no wardrobes but shelves in the large bedroom, the small bedroom has 2 small draws and a rail on the ceiling to high to be of any use …. no shelves, draws or wardrobe, the bed is uncomfortable. <br/>The dining space is small especially for 4 people. <br/>No grab rail in the shower<br/>Towels provided are small and thin, bring your own.

Had a lovely stay with friends. Perfect bank holiday - nice walk along the beach to saltburn, 30 min drive to Whitby. Nice pub at the top of the road that had music on for the bank holiday Sunday! Coffee and tea and even a bottle of wine left for us! Perfectly lovely air Bnb and holiday for a joint birthday ?

A relaxing house to stay in just a short stroll to the beach and the shops. Takes about an hour to walk to Saltburn along the seafront. Ample space and nice rear yard to sit in in the evening. <br>Dog friendly, Would cheerfully stay again.

We had a lovely time here. Marske-by-the-sea is a lovely village and close to other places. A great place to stay to explore N Yorkshire and its coast.

The small bedroom was very small and the bed sank in the middle so was very uncomfortable

The property was in a great location<br/><br/>The property was not ready for our arrival. The property had not been cleaned for our check-in time of 3pm. After along drive we wanted to get into the property and freshen up and enjoy the rest of the afternoon. Unfortunately we could not do this as we had to contact host and stay to arrange for someone to come and clean the property. We therefore could not get into the property until after 6pm. This was extremely disappointing start to our holiday as we wasted a lovely afternoon trying to sort out cleaning for the property.

Great location, very near (250m or so) to a lovely beach. Really well equipped and presented / decorated throughout.<br/><br/>We were (possibly naïvely) expecting Retreat by the Sea to have nobody else living in the same house… In fact the property had a family occupying the first floor (possibly the owners?) whilst we were there. While the ground floor accommodation we stayed in was completely self-contained as described, it didn’t feel like the secluded escape expected, due to the frequent loud noises (raised voices, creaking floorboards and barking dog in particular) that we could hear from above. I’m guessing the upstairs residents could probably hear us at times too: so apologies if they were disturbed as well…

The place was beautiful, right on the beach ( 50 yards away ) clean, homely and very dog friendly.<br/><br/>We loved everything but if there was one niggle it would be the pillows they just were not comfy.

A very good place to stay - excellent location 5 minutes walk from the beach, 10 minute walk into Marske, 10 minute drive to Saltburn. A comfortable family apartment (the smaller second bedroom might be a bit tight for 4 adults, but fine for us with 2 high school age kids), clean and tidy, and nicely furnished. Would definitely stay here again.

A beautiful house right by the sea. Perfect location for exploring the coastline. Very dog friendly. Beds so comfortable and the house had everything you needed for a relaxing stay.<br/><br/>As others have commented you can hear a lot from the flat upstairs which is such a shame.<br/><br/>Also the garden isn't just for your use as the flat upstairs has access via metal stairs that take up a large space in the garden. From the listing's explanation I was expecting a private garden that we could just use and my dog was safe to roam in so this was a little disappointing.<br/><br/>If you don't mind these two things though it is a perfect place to stay.

No bowl to wash dishes either.<br/><br/>* The noise from the residents above is constant. There is little to no sound proofing. From the moment they are awake, so are you. The doors banging and noise from walking up and down the stairs is quite disturbing.<br/><br/>* Snagging List: <br/>1. The floor in bathroom is damaged. Dangerous with nothing on your feet. <br/>2. Damp in the main bedroom.<br/>3. Missing chain from right blind in main bedroom. Couldn't open once closed.<br/>4. Property needs a deep clean. Cupboards dirty, wooden floor damaged and dusty (under kitchen table), back of sofas dusty, wooden wall claddin needs to be fixed to wall properly. <br/>5. The outside area could do with drain covers and made more welcoming to sit in. <br/><br/>The milk in fridge is a nice touch. <br/><br/>The property is in a fantastic location and could be so much better than it currently is presented. We were sold a relaxing and luxurious stay, but it hasn't worked out the break we expected.<br/><br/>Also from the minute walking into the property we were reminded about our checkout time! Receiving texts, emails and even the tablet in the property was constantly telling us to vacate by 10am on our leaving day. We absolutely loved our stay at Retreat by the Sea! <br/>The apartment was gorgeous - modern, beautifully decorated with a coastal theme (LOVED the kitchen and biggest bedroom), and it was so clean and tidy. <br/>The property was very well equipped with plenty of cutlery/plates/mugs/glassware, cooking equipment and utensils, cleaning equipment, plenty of towels, and extra touches like milk in the fridge when we arrived. I was also impressed that there were champagne flutes which is a rarity i<br/>I find! The TV has Netflix also which is fab for relaxing. <br/>The beach was about a 1 or 2 minute walk and there's lovely cafés and pubs close also - we found the area to be very dog friendly which was ideal for us. There is a sainsburys local about 5 minute walk from the property also.<br/><br/>Overall an absolutely fabulous stay and would stay again in future!

Lovely apartment, very nicely decorated with a fab shower. Craigs by the sea is a brilliant coffee shop just 5 minutes walk away and a great walk down the beach to Salt-burn by the sea!

Fantastic property set in a great location. Really enjoyed our stay so close to the beach. Saltburn just 5 mininutes down the road. Also a great base to explore further a field.

There are lots of positives with this accomodation especially the location as it's so near the sea and there's plenty to see and do in the area. The front room is lovely and light. The main bedroom is big and the bed was gorgeous. Likewise the bathroom was very modern and spacious. So for the negatives - Parking is difficult and it was a bit of a bun fight to find a space in front of the apartment although you could park nearby usually. When we got there a couple of the rooms were pretty dirty, with surfaces covered in fluff and hair. I did tell the letting agent who were very helpful and offered to send some cleaners round but we didn't really want that as we'd only just arrived. Anyway it only took 1/2 an hour or so to clean the bedroom and lounge. We had to buy a dustpan and brush as there wasn't one in the property. (Also no toilet brush in the bathroom) So the main bedroom as I said is lovely and big yet the storage for clothes is a small box type thing (see photo) which is completly inadequate. Why there are no proper wardrobes ( as mentioned in other reviews) is a mystery. The description of the apartment mentions a lovely sheltered garden suitable for al-fresco dining. Well it is a lovely little garden but private it is not. You could sit there but the people from the top apartment could be sat about 9 feet away which in such a small space would be awkward to say the least. One night when we were going to sit out the people from upstairs had put all their washing out - it was quite funny really as I nearly ended up with a sock dipping in my Shiraz. Now the main issue we had with regards to the Retreat by the Sea was that one of the reasons we chose it was because it said it had wi-fi. Now I couldn't give two figs about wi-fi personally but we had my 15 year old daughter and her friend with us and for them it was important. Unfortunately you could only get this in the TV lounge and the main bedroom so the girls couldn't use their phones or laptops. This next bit got me quite annoyed because when I rang the agent to explain that 15 year old girls dont want to sit in the TV lounge with us on an evening the woman informed me that when she and her children go on holiday they ...and I quote "like to do things together". I really didn't need any parenting advice but there you go. For the next few days they continued to refuse to get a booster but when I said I was going to complain about it, they sorted it straight away. I have to say, apart from the woman advising me how to spend time with the kids, everyone else at the letting company was really nice and helpful. So all in all we had a lovely holiday. The accommodation was fine really, just those little things that let it down, but I would recommend it.

A really lovely and well equipped place to stay. The location was perfect for the beach, which was simply delightful. The apartment is really stylishly decorated and there’s more than enough room for 2 couples. The second bedroom, although comfortable, might be a little tight for some people, with limited storage. Marske-by-the-sea is a real jewel in the area, everything you need to hand and the public gardens opposite are a lovely place to walk to the sea.

Great location and lots of hidden gems to discover along the coast and in the moors and dales. We had a super break, warm, comfortable and cosy.

Lovely apartment, great location only a couple of minutes walk from the beach. Beds were super comfy and the patio area outside was great for our little dogs and our morning cuppa.

Brilliant location, beautifully decorated and comfortable. Literally three minutes from the beach. Slight downside is the (lack of) soundproofing. While the family upstairs aren’t noisy, you can hear them coming and going.

Had a brilliant stay in Marske. The location was perfect, just a 2 minute walk from the beach and plenty shops/takeaways nearby. Loved that it’s dog friendly and had a little garden for her. The check in/out process was really simple and communication from the hosts was great. The property was very clean and is decorated to a very high standard. Felt like a real home away from home and we would love to come back again soon!

Lovely place ideal location 2 minutes from the beach and few minutes to shops. Everything you need but if there were 4 people the second smaller bedroom has no wardrobe so storage may be an issue
