in Richmond

(50 Reviews)

In the oldest part of Richmond, you’ll find a newly-refurbished gem. Sitting in the grounds of The Old Brewery, The Annexe has three ensuite king-size bedrooms and a family bathroom, as well as a newly-fitted kitchen, living space and a cosy snug. It’s perfect for families and small groups wanting either a peaceful break, or quick and easy access to the beautiful Yorkshire Dale walks.

Trip Details

The Space
Step into the ground floor of this modern and newly renovated property and you’ll find three immaculate king-size bedrooms, each with an ensuite shower or bath. The rooms make for a truly stylish welcome, mixing new furniture with some repurposed classic items.

Take the stairs up to the first floor where you’ll find the main living and dining area, offering a clean and crisp design for a beautiful and relaxing space with a few modern style touches. It features dining space for eight at a modern industrial-style table, as well as comfortable seating around a stunning open fireplace. Also on this floor, you’ll find the family bathroom and a new redeveloped kitchen that gives you all you need for your stay, including a washing machine, fridge freezer, oven, microwave and coffee maker.

But this unique property is not finished there. Another staircase takes you up to a mezzanine second-floor snug, where you can find a bit of peace for your holiday among the floral artwork and welcoming soft furnishings. An additional washroom can be found up here too, as well as a sofa bed if extra sleeping space is required.

Outside the property is an outdoor space, peaceful enough for soaking up the summer sun, or for al fresco dining and evening drinks at the new outdoor furniture being introduced.

The Annexe is within the grounds of The Old Brewery, another beautiful property available for your stay. It is possible to book both together for those needing a bit more space to sleep up to 18 guests. This would be perfect for large walking groups, or friend and family get togethers, so please call our team to discuss booking both properties.

Host & Stay are committed to our owners that their homes are protected during bookings. For this reason, we require all of our guests to transfer a £250.00 Damage Deposit (subject to a £10.00 administration charge) or, to purchase an Accidental Damage Waiver for £25.00 which will cover you for up to £500.00 of accidental damage during your stay.

The Annexe is in the heart of the picturesque market town of Richmond, close to the banks of the River Swale. From the property you are just moments away from a range of independent shops, cafés and pubs in the beautiful cobbled market place, as well as the spectacular Richmond Castle – one of the finest surviving Norman castles in the UK. So, if you’re planning on taking it easy while you’re here, there’s plenty to see and do right on your doorstep.

But, like many others, you may prefer to spend your time getting out and about walking or cycling - and what better place to do it than the stunning Yorkshire Dales. As part of the famous Coast-to-Coast route, Richmond is the perfect stopping point for those taking on one of the most scenic walking challenges in the country.

Or if you’re after some one-day routes, you’re spoiled for choice with paths to Easby Abbey and different length walks following the riverside, all starting from right near the property. You’re also just a short trip from longer routes around Marske and Marrick, as well as Whitcliffe Wood – so there’s something for everyone.

Whatever you choose, you won’t be disappointed by your surroundings. From waterfalls and caves, to flowing fields and quaint villages, a trip around the Dales is sure to be one you remember.

Spacious - plenty of room for the six of us. Very peaceful location but within a short walk of restaurants, pubs and shops. Very comfy beds, loads of hot water.

Fantastic upside down house with amazing lounge area. Parking for us was easily found right outside (probably as we visited low season). We felt the washing machine would be better replaced with a dishwasher but otherwise a great kitchen space. More bathrooms than specified, each bedroom is already ensuite. Beds very comfy. Hangers were very limited although there is drawer space.
We struggled to find the way in but one of the neighbours pointed us in the right direction as the entrance is tucked around the corner and it is a little difficult to negotiate in the dark, have your phone/torch ready in the winter months.
We visited as 3 couples and thought it'd be helpful to have more than one set of keys so that we didn't have to stick together.
All in all, a great house in a good location and one we'd happily come back to.

Great location for exploring Richmond, lovely house. We didn’t fully read the accomadation info and missed the deposit/damage insurance required which came at an additional cost.

The location of the house is great, you can walk (uphill) into Richmond, and there are plenty of places round about in Yorkshire to visit. We were 3 couples and really liked having 3 double bedrooms each with its own bathroom - in fact there is a surfeit of bathrooms, two more in addition to the 3 ensuites! The lounge area and dining table were both comfortable to hang out in.
A property of this size and spec really should have a dishwasher. And if you have to wash up, there should be more than one flimsy t-towel provided for a 5 night stay. Also very disappointed that there was no bedding in the house for the sofa bed, and when we phoned Host and Stay to ask for some we were eventually told that no-ne was in the area to bring it to us (and that only after chasing them several times as they never called back as promised). One person we spoke to said they would refund the cost of a sheet if we went out and bought one, which we actually did - but so no far no sign of a refund, really poor service.

Lovely accommodation close to the town & riverside walks. Ideal for 3 couples plus dogs, plenty of living room space to spread out with large main living room and mezzanine. Every bedroom en-suite, plus 2 more bathrooms. Washing machine, but no dishwasher. We enjoyed a very lovely family Christmas here, wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.

The Annexe fitted our 3 generations needs perfectly; spacious rooms and lovely open living space + plenty of bathrooms! A few niggles which could be addressed; The entrance yard door is hard to find...There are no full directions and the unhelpful photo only shows the Associate house front. I was already upset because I had been emailed yet again to 'verify' - which means adding extra insurance, which I had already done and I hadn't received key safe number and it was dark. Secondly, the 'patio' area was dirty and untidy...dead leaves and rotten apples everywhere. Not a good first impression for an otherwise fabulous property. Third; there is nowhere to put bathroom 'cosmetics' etc. A shelf or small unit required. 3rd party Company hosting, although courteous, was frustrating: Illogically, my name was registered as INITIAL + Surname, rather than full first name + surname, and could not be found initially: Tech needs to be amended.

Spacious, everyone had their own bathroom. It was quiet and peaceful
The kitchen cupboards and handles very dirty! The pans particularly the frying pan need replacing with better quality and bigger pans. We go away as a group every year and do a Christmas dinner, this was not possible here as there’s no roasting tins, Yorkshire pudding trays, pans big enough to cook for 6 people, very disappointing! Also I haven’t got my £250 deposit back yet, it was taken more than a week before our stay!

Great place to stay and very spacious accommodation. Located close to the town centre.

We love Richmond and the surrounding areas, loved the big open space, really comfy beds, bedrooms excellent
Heating brilliant
Loved the amount of bathrooms
Comfy sitting area
Not enough cooking equipment for 6 people
No dishwasher
Dirty oven
Needs more lighting outside as loads of slippery trip hazards
Would look at turning one bedroom into a twin room.

Open plan kitchen, dining and lounge area
Bedrooms very dark

Very good

Everything was great comfy beds and very clean

The location was great, it was based at the foot of a steep incline to get up into town, however, as we have visited Richmond many times, we were fully aware of this. The living area was very bright and airy - the kitchen lovely and pretty well equipped and all three bedrooms being en-suite was a real bonus -plus 2 extra bathrooms
Nothing

Great location . The place was clean and loved how spacious it was. We will definitely be booking again. Loved there was so many bathrooms , meant that getting ready was super easy in the mornings
Nothing

The accommodation inside was great , good size rooms and everything you need for a short stay
Outside was in need of a gardener. Great potential but extremely overgrown and messy

The layout was quirky and interior design was beautiful. Very spacious and great for a family of 5, with 3 teenagers.
The property itself is lovely. There were a couple of things about this booking which were a bit off putting, nothing serious but given the cost (compared to other similar stays) probably worth mentioning.
1. A deposit is required (I paid in full at the point of booking so wrongly assumed this would be included, but it was a damages deposit (either £10 admin and £250 returned after a week or £25 non returnable). I understand why owners might want to protect their return but this is the first time in over a decade of using booking.com that I’ve had to do this. I would have preferred the £25 to be included in the cost at the point of booking.
2. The picture on the information booklet isn’t the property, which is at the rear. This provided for a confusing arrival.
3. Inside the property was lovely, although the outside/access was surprisingly unkempt (lots apples had fallen from the nearby tree (long rotten) and very overgrown shrubbery. We were just on a short stay so didn’t want to use the outdoor space so it didn’t spoil the trip but if I’d booked for a week this would have bothered me.
It’s worth noting that the downstairs bedrooms are noticeably colder than the upstairs rooms.

Beautiful property and as per the photos. Ideally situated in Richmond and close to all local amenities and beautiful countryside and the River Swale for fishing!
Property was lovely, beds super comfortable, living and dining area was exceptional, the weather wasn’t good enough for outside dining, but the secluded courtyard garden was great!
Minor critique and not a game changer, but could have done with an additional set of keys as had to coincide with other family members plans. Also, a brief guide on central heating which came on full blast twice daily- great for the winter months, but not summer!
Parking locally was at a premium on some days, but downloaded the MyRingo app for the public car park next door, so not an issue.
Overall, a fantastic, relaxing week in a lovely property-and I look forward to returning in the future. Thank you.?

A great property to explore the beautiful surrounding area. Well located for Richmond in the evenings & totally peaceful

A beautiful property in a good location.

Really well located for visiting Richmond & surrounding areas. Parking on the green is a bit limited but the car park is large & just yards from the property & being a little out of the main part of town, felt like a safe place to leave the car. The property is as lovely as it looks in the photos, the kitchen & living space which are upstairs, are especially nice and very well equipped.
Everything was spotless on arrival.

Beautiful comfortable cottage and very spacious. We had a fabulous time and enjoyed every moment of our stay - even walking up the steep hills to the centre of Richmond. Would be difficult for anybody with poor mobility though and this should be mentioned.
On the downside the passage way leading to the courtyard outside the cottage needs a lot of TLC. The passageway is very dark and needs lighting for nighttime. Also, the courtyard needs clearing of overgrown shrubbery and weeds. Because of this it wouldn't have been pleasant to sit outside.

Excellent accommodation beautifully decorated. Calm restful place, with well appointed kitchen. Great location with parking, perfect for our family visit
Thank you
Shirley & Mike

We had a lovely stay in the Annexe. The bedrooms were deliciously cool despite the high temperatures outside. Each room was beautifully decorated with lots of lovely touches. The kitchen, dining and lounge areas were a great size, plenty of room for everyone.
The Annexe is on the edge of Richmond at the bottom of the hill from the main square. But we’ll within walking distance. Indeed there are some lovely walks you can do right on the doorstep.
Thank you for such a beautiful place to have a reunion with old friends.

Beautiful in every aspect of the word

Fantastic location close to the centre with lovely walks nearby. Property is nicely decorated with good sized bedrooms but overall letdown by the cleanliness.

A very beautiful house - sparkling clean and well equipped. Be aware that you’ll need to pay a deposit and also fill in some forms before arrival.

Difficult to find the property had to ring to find where it was but the location was great and very private
On street parking was very good too
The furniture and fitting very nice and rooms were spacious
One minor we thought the property was great but a bit expensive compared to other places we have stopped in

The most wonderful property. Extremely comfortable, and stunning location. We had the best weekend and will definitely be back!

Location was fantastic, the kids loved having the mezzanine and a bedroom each.

We had a wonderful stay at this property. Instructions for our arrival were clear and easy to follow, the property was clean and in perfect condition for our arrival. The location was brilliant with easy walking or driving distance into the town. Parking for this property is available around the green or paid parking is provided too. We hope to stay again soon.

Overall great location and property with plenty of room, but the property was not well maintained and cleaned. The entry door was overgrown, there was feces and rotten fruit in the courtyard, half of the lights were burnt out in the kitchen, it was quite dusty inside, the radiator was not working in one of the bedrooms, there was not any extra toilet paper onsite (which we began to run out of), and one of the bathroom doors was broken/jammed shut when we arrived so inaccessible for the duration of our stay. The management company was very responsive to our messages but I hope that they invest a bit more in the maintenance of the property going forward.

Good location in Richmond, comfortable rooms and living space. Cleanliness left a little to be desired and the kitchen wasn't the best stocked but overall a decent stay and quite good value

We had a lovely stay in the Annexe. It was a great space to just be in and enjoy. The bedrooms each having en suite bathrooms was definitely a plus and they were clean and comfortable.

The only slight downfall for us was the yard area was covered in debris from the fruit trees etc so we couldn’t let the dogs out without taking great care they weren’t picking up rotten fruit, but we wouldn’t have left them out on their own anyway, so no harm done. I’m sure once the weather picks up it’ll be a lovely space to sit out in.

I would definitely choose to stay again if we’re back in Richmond.

the property was very modern, spacious and great for what we needed.
access to the property was not clear directed especially if your staying at the annexe, we were trying to get into the key safe of the old brewery but you actually have to go round the side of the property for the annexe. also no lights on the fence of back yard to see when it is dark you have to use a torch.

Perfect base for our family weekend stay (3 couples). The house is lovely with 3 equally luxe bedrooms all with en suites and 2 additional toilets/bathrooms.
Open plan living room is great for evening gatherings, with Richmond just up the hill (it is a steep climb) with loads of great shops/bars and places to eat. Walks along the river right on the doorstep.
We had a lovely stay, only thing missing was a dishwasher in kitchen. Many thanks.

Great location and great room sizes. Bathrooms quite dirty, rubbish left by previous guests and the path needs clearing and you’ll definitely need a torch as it’s pitch black. Otherwise great spot, bedrooms really nice and looks like the photos. I’d come again as easily walkable into Richmond centre.

Great location and beautifully decorated. Very disappointed with the cleanliness of the property.

We had a perfect stay, the location is perfect. Lovely and quiet set slightly away from the centre of town but only a short walk away.
The property is beautiful with more than adequate provision of bathrooms for 3 couples staying and a large space for dining and relaxing.
We could not have asked for more from our stay. Extremely clean and with all the facilities you could need.

Location amazing Richmond beautiful
Loved the accommodation we stayed at
The Hill up to centre

A lovely place, a real hidden gem. Like home from home.

Beautiful rental in a great location. We enjoyed our stay immensely! Staff and communication were also great. Thank you so much!

Great place to stay for 6 or 8.
Richmond has lovely falls, a must to see and a lovely market type square for shopping. Steep hill to get there and back though unless you take riverside walk.
Garden could do with some tlc but overall happy with the accommodation. Just a few niggles but not worth mentioning to be fair. I would return at the end of the day.

Lovely spacious property, in a great location for exploring Richmond.
Easy check in and check out.
Good communication from host.
Plenty of parking available.

Lovely place to stay in the heart of Richmond! The Cottage has been done up to a high standard.

Wonderful apartment - beautifully decorated and well equipped for a perfect stay

The property has very high quality decor and furnishings and has a great style throughout. Really comfy beds for a great night’s sleep. The location is great for the town and walk to the waterfalls. Check in and check out were smooth. We raised a few small issues with the team; water leaked under the door into the entryway during a heavy downpour, rubbish bags from previous tenants left on the walkway to the garden rather than being placed in the bins and no tea towels, which they have stated they will take in consideration for future visits. Friendly service and overall a lovely stay, thank you!

Stayed for work and was perfect for what we needed. Would recommend

Great property in a good location.
Really comfortable throughout with plenty of space to use
