The village of Skinningrove is guaranteed to provide the perfect setting for a peaceful retreat. Head to the far end of the village and you’ll discover the beautiful Cattersty Sands, one of Britain’s most stunning beaches. A visit to the Land of Iron at Cleveland Ironstone Mining Museum is also worthwhile if you want to discover Skinningrove’s history and traditions.

Just up the bank is the small, family friendly town of Loftus which has independent shops and amenities including the award winning Willow Cake Shop, Wold Pottery for arts and crafts and a micro gin bar. If you’re looking to get active during your stay, join the infamous 100 mile long Cleveland Way Trail or venture to Staithes along Boulby Cliffs which is the highest cliff on the east coast! Loftus is also an ideal base for cycling as you will find the Tour de Yorkshire and the Klondike pass by at the end of the road. If you want to partake in cycling yourself, there are plenty of uphill climbs to get your heart racing!

The gorgeous seaside town of Saltburn-by-the-Sea is also just a short drive away. Here you’ll find golden sandy shores and a bustling town centre. You can take the oldest functioning cliff lift in the UK down to the promenade where you’ll arrive at the 208-metre pier which stretches out into the sea. The beach is overlooked by colourful boutique beach huts, a fish restaurant, arcades and a surf shop making it the ideal spot for a day at the seaside.

Also close to Loftus is the charming fishing village of Staithes. The quaint coastal hamlet was recently named one of Britain’s most beautiful seaside villages. It has high cliffs, winding streets and mismatched cottages bursting with charm. Staithes is a magnet for art and artists alike. Throughout the village you’ll find amazing painted illusions known as the ‘Painted Illusions Trail’ created by the famous artist Paul Czainski. It is also the home to the impressionist art society, known as Staithes Group, and their work can always be seen dotted around. Visit Staithes Gallery and browse the wonderful exhibits inspired by the village.

We stayed here last year and although Skinningrove has little to offer - the beach is beautiful and ideal if you have dogs or kids<br/><br/>Heating was broken, door handles falling off, upstairs shower leaked into the downstairs shower, only 2 mugs/cups so had to go and buy some, not enough cutlery - sleeps 9 but was only 7 knives and forks and 5 spoons. The oven was filthy, the fire detector in the kitchen was covered in foil. The bedding smelt sweaty. We spoke to the owner over text and the agent via the app and got a lot of promises but nothing happened.

The area was great, very nice quiet, plenty of parking, layout was good and spacious<br/><br/>When we arrived, we were faced with all the rubbish that was left at the side of the property, we informed somebody via text and was just told, "we will pass it on."<br/>The kitchen and some of its equipment weren't suitable for hosting 5 adults and 3 children, 1 very small frying pan takes a very long time to fry more than 20 slices of bacon. <br/><br/>The property also didn't have a washing machine, which would be very useful as it is situated right next to a beach, also there was no freezer at the property, again when hosting a large family and a big shop is necessary, a freezer surely is a must? <br/>None of the bedrooms had curtains, only blinds, so when it became light, everybody struggled to stay asleep.<br/><br/>2 of the doors had very loose screws for the door handles, 1 of which, by the end of our stay, completely came loose and away from the door.<br/>We found this very disappointing as we were charged an extra fee for accidental damage cover, which was non-refundable. I don't agree with this fee and think it should be reflected by the cost of the rental fee, we had no choice but to pay as was told we would not receive our Arrival details until we payed the accidental damage cover.<br/><br/>Attached to the property is a garage that was accessible via a door on the ground floor near the main entrance, this garage seemed to be a dumping ground for any unwanted furniture and household waste, which was not suitable for children to enter to gain access to the small garden at the rear of the property, although thd garden was far from maintained and not suitable for the children to play in.<br/><br/>I would be very reluctant to book again with Host & Stay

Great host, the house was extremely clean and in a great location. Would definitely stay again!
