Staithes is the quaint coastal village which was recently named one of Britain’s most beautiful seaside villages. It is a fascinating village with a lot of history, and many say it is like stepping back in time.

It has a beautiful harbour with beach set below the towering cliffs, winding streets, a maze of ginnels and alleyways, and mismatched colourful cottages bursting with charm.

The village is also known for its abundance of fossils which can be found along the small beach and in the cluster of rockpools. This area is nicknamed the ‘Dinosaur Coast’ as it’s packed with history.

Staithes is a magnet for art and artists alike. Throughout the village you’ll find the amazing Painted Illusions Trail created by the famous artist Paul Czainski. It was also the home to the impressionist art society, known as Staithes Group, and their work can always be seen dotted around. Visit the two village art galleries and the free Captain Cook Museum.

This cosy property is spacious and comfortably furnished. The kitchen was well appointed and clean and the shower has good water pressure. The owner has kindly provided games and there is a television to provide some light entertainment in case of bad weather. The weather can be cold and blustery outside however, there are plenty of throws to supplement the heating inside.

We were surprised how steep the walk from the village to the car park was and feel it is worth highlighting this along with the fact the steps from the road to the front door can be slippery when there is rain.

Centre of village. Nice local pubs/restaurants.
Lovely owner who couldn't have been more helpful

Only issue was pricing on, not sure if it's due to Host and Stay but the total outlay was much more than the initial offer on the site. I emailed Host and Stay but never received anything other than what appeared to be automated responses.

Location was very good and it was very comfortable and clean inside.

1) car park voucher not available in cottage, had to pay for car park 2) approach to entrance had rubbish and was vet dirty

Had a great weekend, would highly recommend.

Trudie is lovely and made us feel very welcome. The accommodation is very cozy and located in the heart of the village. We would highly recommend Dotty’s Coastal Retreat to anybody considering a stay in Staithes.
