Abbey Heights

At the top of a tall house so not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. Clean, very spacious and an excellent view of the Abbey .

It was a good quality for the price. The heating was working well which is important in the cold weather you can have in Whitby. One time the radiator in the main room stopped working but was promptly fixed by the company. The flat was clean abd the location was relatively close to the town centre, within wlaking distance. A Victorian building Nice views everywhere just after leaving the house, The inscription on the key box was completely faded out. It was not possible to find the right box straight away as the day light fades away quite fast in the late autumn. A torch just produced more reflections, so we struggled at the beginning. Also, the email with the number of the flat and its floor arrived late. In fact, we found the flat after running through all floors and checking all possible doors. After we went inside, I received the email with the information we needed. It was a bit too late, I would say, and disappointing. Unfortunately, we had an unannounced damage deposit and/or waiver request. It came just about two weeks before our check-in and it was not part of the deal. It was not included in the original price. We decided to pay the non-refundable waiver of 25 £ but felt cheated on this one. The damage deposit, although returnable, would have been 250 £. There was no way we could have changed our plans or booking on such a short notice. It was not very professional in our opinion. We were really upset by that.

Dirty pots and pans had to wash most things. Uncomfortable bed and to much noise till the drunks got to sleep after 2am

A very lovely apartment, situated in a great spot on the west cliff nearby to plenty of local amenities. Easy to find, a touch difficult going up to the top floor after a day of travelling but we'll worth it at the top. Disappointing we had to cut our stay short and leave early the Sunday morning, but family circumstances can hardly reflect on the place now can they

As a base to come and go on foot, Abbey Heights was well located & provided all we needed. Host&Stay sent conflicting confirmations with different addresses, and repeatedly asked us to check in online even when we’d done so. I called and H&S clarified where we were staying & that check-in was done. The e-guidebook was good (though the postcode was wrong). Should have been a parking permit in the flat but wasn’t. Called H&S and one was dropped off half an hour later. Big prob was that the door handle on the inside of the front door was missing. It was on the floor! We could have got stuck inside with no way to get out (the flat was on the 4th floor!). This must’ve been noticed by the H&S team - why wasn’t it fixed before we arrived? Called H&S again who sent a maintenance man within 2hrs. He did a “quirky” quick fix on the handle which didn’t look great but did the job. From then on, it was fine & the flat did what we needed it to do. Shame we had the issues before and during arrival.

The location was prefect. The amount of stairs we had to climb. We were left 1 toilet roll even though staying for 4 nights. The double bed was hard on one side and completely soft on the other...you actually rolled down it. One of the single beds rocked. The sofa was a very old one that had pillows under it to keep the top part up. We asked could we have an early check in but we're told no due to the high standard of cleaning that went on.....very shocked by this due to the level of cleaning that was actually done.

Location etc. and the property-type was fine, but the standard of cleanliness was vile. I’ve never seen anything so bad. There was filth and dust everywhere, stains on the floors and on kitchen appliances and crockery, there were stains and hairs in the beds and shower and the shower drain was blocked which flooded the bathroom. I’ve raised a complaint with Air B&B and provided over 20 photos - shame I can’t post them to this review.

Really happy with our stay. Great views of whitby abbey from window. Very clean, easy check in and hosts very proactive with info throughout. Some folks have highlighted that there's a few stairs to tackle in reaching the apartment. But if that's enough to dissuade you then I don't think you should be visiting whitby in general as its all stairs and steep hills! :) LOVED OUR STAY. THANK YOU!

Had to clean the whole apartment when we arrived

Ok so don’t book this place if you have mobility issues. If you don’t it’s fantastic! Extremely reasonable, clean , great location and amazing views of the Abbey. We found getting in a little tricky but once we did we had no problems with the room at all. Had everything we needed for a family of 4 asap base for our little get away. No problems with the WiFi or Tv. Only issue we had was when we were leaving I took the rubbish out the back and a plank of wood had fallen off the stair case do quite a drop below and I had to hop over it to go down the wooden steps - this was a little scary as not keen on heights. I reported it so hopefully that’s fixed now. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again - in fact our youngest wants us to book it again next year. Location is great close to the Whale bone on West cliff.

Not at all what we expected it was on top off a big hill to far to walk into town with a wheelchair does not match details It was on the 4th floor of the house would not of booked it if that was in description and still waiting for scratche card for parking toilet seat needs repair Cups and glasses dirty windows and bathroom needs cleaning office stay were not interested st all wouldn't not go back or use this company again

Security lighting could have been better when entering building going in blind with a mobile phone torch up 60 stairs ?

We loved our stay at this apartment. Everything was lovely inside, clean and ready to use. Location was spot in, few minutes walk down the popular centre of Whitby. One thing I will comment on, it wasn’t much of a problem but, the post code in the brochure they sent us didn’t actually match where the apartment was. But a quick google maps search showed us the right way. Beware of stairs if you have problems with mobility there’s lots and lots of em. Although we enjoyed the exercise, made us feel less guilty about eating fish and chips every night. Would return, highly recommend :) thanks again

Whitby is lovely place, location was great and apartment was adequate for what we needed. There was a parking permit but parking is difficult as most places are taken. You have to be quick. Windows were filthy, the apartment is right at the top of 4 flights of stairs and no lift. Toilet seat loose and hairdryer faulty and fire hazard. There was also a nasty stench that came through the bedroom that was so bad we had to go in the other room. It is probably due to drains so not a fault of owners but not nice when your sleeping.

Loved the location and the price, really great place for a break. I was able to add an extra car on to my stay for £10 A little bit sandy but what do you expect being so close to the beach! It's up a lot of stairs but I enjoyed the extra exercise!

Excellent apartment. Spacious. Comfy beds. Good cooking facilities. No problem patking. Reliable WiFi. Excellent views. Make sure not to book if you're old or infirm as the place is at the top of a lot of stairs.

We had a very enjoyable two night break in Whitby and this apartment was ideally located to walk into the town and visit the local attractions. Great views over the bay to the Abbey. The apartment was spacious and clean, with basics all provided - tea bags, washing up liquid, soaps etc making it easy upon arrival. The only downside was the mattress in the main bedroom; felt like it was on a slope… could probably benefit from an upgrade. Otherwise had a very enjoyable stay.

Good location. Comfy beds. Good wi-fi. Quiet. Cleaning looked slap-dash. Bathroom mirror smeared, cup in bathroom filthy, broom caked with dust on it left main room. Toilet seat insecure. Windows need a clean. It wasn't bad, just had a feeling of neglect.

excellent apartment, well looked after and in perfect location.

Had a great few days at the property. The place was very clean and very close to the town centre. The check-in was very manageable with the lock-box, the only slight issue was that the email we received had a slightly different location to the listing but it was still an easy place to find. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a few days stay at Whitby.

Great position in Whitby ! Close to everywhere

The only problem I had was we didn't get a scratch card for my parking. It relates back on me getting a parking ticket I did ring regarding this matter but still didn't get a card for me to have free parking

Great location - short walk into the town centre. Good sized apartment. Fantastic view of the Abbey! Comfy beds and effective heating. Unaware it was on the top floor, our fault for not realising as it was quite a mission to lug 4 giant suitcases up all those stairs, thankfully we were all young and fit and managed it in the end

Comfort, location and amenities. Easy to access the Town and sites. I enjoyed the visit with my son. All perfect. A small point but the non refundable deposit annoyed me. A small amount but as a principle just seems wrong.

Could do with a good clean & no mention of 53 steps to apartment did ask before arrival to change to lower floor which was empty but no can do

Spacious, comfortable and great location The apartment’s decor seemed a bit tired and in need of sprucing up. The interior of the building itself could do with redecorating albeit I appreciate that this element may be beyond control of the apartment’s management company.

Perfect place to stay in Whitby. We have stayed in that area before and it is close enough to everything whilst still being able to get the car parked. Parking is always a problem in Whitby but we find that the area usually has space somewhere close by. View of Abbey from lounge is stunning. Only downside is carrying luggage up them stairs, but once its done a perfect place to relax.

Clean bed linens and towels, the view was beautiful Key code was wrong had to make a phone call to get into property but was sorted straight away. The stairs could be a problem for some.

Nice flat,location great for us,plenty of room in flat and facilities Top floor flat 72 steps up,ok if you are fit and not carrying loads of stuff up,would request a lower unit if booked again. Not scratch card car permit left for us in the room when we checked in first day ,had to park in pay and display car park. Several phone calls and messages,recieved one on day 2 to park our car in disc zone.

Decent amenities and well appointed It appeared that the apartment whilst generally reasonably clean had not been vacuumed with dirt and hair in most rooms. Apartment on 4th floor. Difficult to park for free using parking scratch card due to oversubscribed residents parking scheme.

Great apartments great location If you have any difficulties walking not for you to meny stairs only 2 of us stayed at apartment 2 had to find another hotel at a cost due to lack of information would still recommend apartment just beware of stairs

the apartment was comfortable, clean and in a good location, and Host & Stay were good communicators for the most part, however there were a few issues. The hot water wasn't switched on when we arrived so we couldn't wash that evening, and even once we located the switch (not mentioned in instructions), the hot water was patchy throughout our stay. the kitchen lacked a few necessities imo - sharp knives and oven gloves. and Host & Stay didn't provide enough parking permits and only delivered a new one after the original expired meaning we had to get up early to move the car ten minutes walk away - not ideal. there's also a lot of stairs - only book if you're young and fit, and don't have too much luggage!

The apartment was nice, quite small and looking a bit tired but the location was fantastic. There are also a lot of stairs so please be mindful when booking. I think it could have been a little cleaner, there were stains on the floors. Also not sure why there was no washing up liquid (only dishwasher tablets but we couldn’t find a dishwasher). All the cutlery didn’t look very clean either (maybe due to no washing up liquid). The mattress is the main bedroom is also completely gone - it sank down in the middle. Just a few little tweaks and the place would be amazing but was relatively good value for a short break away.

the location was perfect lots of stairs up to the flat - unless I missed it there was no prior mention of this.

Great location and the apartment was great for the money

We were so disappointed that the flat was freezing cold on arrival. We had read the previous review, contacted the company and were told that the radiator in the living room had been looked at and fixed. We called the helpline and the maintenance guy who came out confirmed the radiator hadn't been looked at for some time because the fuse was completely corroded and the fuse box was melted. We were disappointed to have been lied to and had to cook our dinner with coats and hats on while our children cried and asked us to drive back home. They provided plug in heaters which were fine for the weekend. Agree with previous review that the mattress in the double bed is very uncomfortable - one half normal, other half very soft. Difficult to get a good night's sleep on it. There were used toiletries left in the shower but otherwise the flat was clean. Apart from the heating, it's a lovely flat in a great location with beautiful views of the Abbey.

The location of the accommodation was good, unfortunately, that's where the positives end. The radiator in the living room doesn't work & the double bed mattress is a specialist 'half firm / half soft' type - probably designed for a specific couple. Not ideal in a rental property, my wife and I couldn't use it - we slept in the two single beds. I reported these two issues to host & stay and just got a standard email stating that 'housekeeping had been informed' but nothing was resolved. The single glazed windows are poorly fitted and draughts whistled through them. There was no hot water for washing dishes or hand washing - we had to boil a kettle. The appartment was dusty and the bathroom had grime where attention to detail is required. We couldn't access the property until 4pm and needed to leave by 10am due to 'deep cleaning being completed', I can accept this but we didn't see evidence of it. At a cost of £450 for a 66 hour stay, not value for money in my opinion.

Sentralt, nærheten til alle spennende steder i sentrum. Ikke rent på golvet. Ubehagelig lukt på et av soverom som om det bodde hunder før oss. Kranglete å klatre opp på trappa uten heis, det var 4 etasje. Når du går i leiligheten eller vaskemaskin i gang, rister det hele golvet. Veldig trangt på et annet soverom, der det er 2 senger, det er kun 15 - 20 cm avstand mellom dem. Det finnes vaskemaskin i leiligheten, men det er ingen tørketrommel og ingen tørkestativ, så du må bruke fantasi på å henge dine bukse og sokker der og her. Møkkete vinduer og skitne myke møbler. Jeg kjenner at Whitby er et populær turist sted, men for over 3 tusen kroner per natt må du få noe mer ordentlig, eller pris må ned!

Well equipped and spacious flat in a good location. Be aware there are lots of stairs up to the flat. Lovely view of Whitby Abbey. Would stay again.

Really enjoyable stay and great view of the illuminated Abbey on an evening!

The location was good, near to the beach and shops. The sofa was uncomfortable so could not sit on it. The mattress on the double bed needs replacing as also uncomfortable.

The views are fabulous. Comfortable beds. Floor was dirty and a bin had not been emptied.

The location is very convenient both to the beach and the town centre, there is a good view of the abbey from one of the windows. It got all the facilities of a home. The internet connection is a bit slow. The tv signal is not very good.

The apartment was in a great location, but don’t forget your climbing legs as there are many steps to the fourth floor. it was clean, spacious and modern apartment with comfortable beds too, we didn’t use the kitchen facilities as we ate out each night but it looked well equipped. Great views of the Abbey and surrounding area from the living room.

Female underwear had been left in the top drawer of the twin bedroom.

Lovely newly refurbished apartment with everything you could possibly need . We were a party of 4 adults so small bedroom with 2 small beds was not ideal compared to master bedroom...great for 2 children but not 2 adults. 53 stairs to climb was not ideal either.

roomy for 2or 4 , tiny shower unit. being overseas travellers we had a lot of luggage to carry up over 50 steps. wasn’t given the apartment number via booking had to ring the helpdesk to find out. parking was a nightmare too out on the street. not ample at all.

The location is great, close to the town center, restaurants. The views from windows are amazing. The apartment has all the facilities to enjoy staying in - fire tv, oven, microwave, drink glasses, kettle etc. The apartment was quite clean. A few small issues bothered us a bit. - cups had tea stains in them. We had to wash them. - The control of the heater in the small bedroom was not working properly. The heater was very hot when turned on. - the apartment had a certain bizarre odor, that we could not completely get rid of it by opening windows.

Excellent location. The stairs are a killer but will make the steps to the abbey feel like a doddle.

We had an excellent stay at Abbey Heights. The first thing worth noting is that it’s a fourth floor walk up, no lift. It wouldn’t have been a problem for just me and my partner but it was a struggle with a baby, pram and older mother. The flat however is lovely and spacious, it has all the things you would expect from an Airbnb. It’s very convenient to the beach as well as the shops.

Nice size rooms with lovely views. Didn't realise that it was on 4 floor. Had to work out how to get the hot water to work as it was turn off and there were no instructions for it. Double bed was very soft and you both sank in to middle. Tv in bed room Didn't work or the fire stick in lounge for extra tv channels.
