The property was beautifully presented. It was very spacious and was in the perfect location.

Nothing. The back kitchen door wouldn’t unlock but this didn’t affect our stay.

Lovely place to stay. Very spacious and lovely garden too. Very clean. Responsive host when messaged with a question. Will be looking to rebook in the future.

A cafetiere would be a bonus; also a hairdryer.

The space, location, layout and fantastic garden

The last minute demand against damage insurance, the cleanliness in some areas, scant information available on a QR code, a number of maintainance issues not attended to eg no top to the outside table meant that we couldn't eat outside on the hottest week of the year, unable to properly close rooflight in the attic bedroom, upstairs shower missing a sprinkle inset. There was plenty of good crockery but no way to make real coffee and two of the beds had lumpy matresses.

Location. Comfy beds

Do not ever book a host and stay property. We arrived to unmade slept in beds. Bins overflowing. Filthy sink and oven gloves. No clean had taken place from last guests. We are still waiting compensation of the cleaning fee for this. Contacting them is virtually impossible. Ignorant and rude.We stayed in April and are still chasing this up now in July. Appaling customer service. Such a shame for whoever owns this property and puts it in the hands off a company to manage, which is what I expect is the set up.

Lovely house, everything you need and great pub right opposite! perfect for our weekend trip for a wedding, and a full house didn't feel full, lots of space in the living room to all group together and the dining room/kitchen. Many of our group commented on how great the shower was! Thanks for a great stay

Good location

Filthy, broken garden furniture. Dangerous cast iron drainpipe about to fall. Oven so dirty it set the smoke alarm off. Not newly renovated in any way so false advertising. Would never use this company again

It was a nice place for stay & had an amazing bar just opposite to the house. The instructions were straightforward for check-in & the house was tidy & clean with all the listed amenities available.
It's a nice house for hosting atleast 6 people with kids. I would recommend this place who like peace & green surroundings.

Lovely house in an idyllic location. Very well equipped with everything we needed. The bathrooms and bedrooms were pristine and beds very comfortable. Log fire was lovely and made the house very cosy. There are two great pubs directly opposite which is a bonus. We couldn't get the heating to work the first night but this was rectified the second day after contacting the host. We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely house and would definitely return.

Spacious, retention of original features. Very central to the village, moorlands and coast within east reach. Bus service ran through. Quality eateries within walking distance.

It would be improved with a log fire. Bedrooms could have done with bedside tables and storage for clothing. Front door quite stiff

First impressions great, then after a while you start to notice. Cleaning is not the best, access to the loft bedroom and en-suit is difficult (very narrow stairs, awkward size doors, low roof and roof vent). One bed had a ridiculous wooden surround that you keep on hitting your shin and a noisy wooden headboard that creaked also the mattress had seen better days and sank in the middle. The settee was very low you sort of roll off and get up. A printed book on how things work would be great (microwave and TV), a bit of painting here and there, curtains on the landing and bathroom (you are not overlooked but some sort of covering had been there in the past ). As I said it was OK but not great. Would I go back? No, there are better places to stay for the money.

Really enjoyed the stay here. It was a super location for getting out and about over a BH weekend. The house is in a very quiet location, with two superb pubs bang opposite and very convenient! The house was very homely and had everything on tap. We had a problem with the boiler on arrival, but the host was extremely responsive and sent somebody in to fix. He too was extremely friendly and sorted the problem promptly. Would recommend and book again, thanks for a great stay!

Overall a really disappointing experience from the company and holiday home itself.
I would advise anyone thinking of booking this property to hold out until it has received a thorough clean and maintenance work carried out on the issues highlighted to Host & Stay.
The property had either not been cleaned or had been to a very poor standard.
The white sofa as shown in the picture is absolutely filthy, with multiple stains and marks. The carpet is also due for replacement.
The boiler requires immediate maintenance as we discovered when we entered a freezing cold house, not ideal with below 0 temperatures outdoors.
Multiple pictures have been sent with various other issues and an investigation is being carried by the company.
Difficult to communicate with staff members out of office hours as you are diverted to a work force abroad.
A reasonable compensation has been offered however I am extremely disappointed to have not been contacted by a member of management.

We had a lovely weekend here. The location is great and just a short drive to Whitby. The house itself was really nice and clean and has everything that you need. Beds are really comfortable and we enjoyed our stay. would highly recommend.

Host and Stay have read the Ryan Air book of getting more money. We paid our fees then were given A HARD SELL OF INSURANCE. If we didn't take their extra insurance then we could be liable to cancellation We have rented lots of accommodation but never had this avericious method of squeezing extra money from people. It's a shame as the house and location is great. However hope H and S get the customers they deserve!
BTW we left the place clean and tidy but I can see other people getting their £500 of insurance value out of the place due to this unwelcome extra charge.
Pps. The bed in the lower bedroom has a protruding 8 inch shelf on which my husband gashed his shin on. Perhaps you should consider removing this shelf as it is very hazardous.

Lovely stay with 7 friends! We had plenty of space in the house with a very large sofa and a well equipped dining room + kitchen. The bedrooms were large with comfortable beds and enough storage space in wardrobes. 2 bathrooms and all decorated nicely.
Cozy small pub just opposite the house, 20mins walk to train st and 15mins drive to Whitby.
We would highly recommend to anyone looking for a weekend away in a beautiful location perfect for hiking and sightseeing.

Great location and excellent cottage. Clean with all facilities expected. Great views and easy access to most things to do in the area - be it the NYMR or the coast. Two pubs in the village too. would definitely recommend.

Gorgeous old building with nice bathrooms, comfy beds and good size kitchen/diner - in a cracking location. Unfortunately that’s where the good news ends! The property is not in as good a state as the pictures would have you believe. The entire house is in need of a good clean and decoration. Stairs, kitchens and bathrooms all marked with stains (don’t think the colour helps). The living room has a light cream sofa, which is marked and stained. Whether the sofa is clean or not is sort of irrelevant, because it doesn’t feel it. The living room carpet is also filthy - I spilled some water and soaked it up with paper towels, and the paper was almost black.

In addition, we could not get the heating on whatsoever. We spoke to Host and Stay who simply directed us to the property handbook - and helpfully reminded me that I needed to turn the thermostat anti-clockwise to increase the temperature…. Host and Stay spoke with the owners, but no real instructions were forthcoming to enable us to sort it out, despite having turned the thermostat. There is underfloor heating in the kitchen, but it isn't that noticeable. We had to rely on electric fires and the wood fire for the living room (wood not included).

If you are planning on staying here in a big group, I suggest you should all be familiar enough to take a bath together, because there wasn't enough water for our group of 4 (it sleeps 8!) to have a shower / bath on an evening before heading to the pub.

All this could be forgiven - noting that dogs are allowed to stay here - if the property was good value. But at £300 per night, it really isn't.

Excellent location and on the hole very clean and well equipped house.

The bed in the attic was very uncomfortable and creaked every slight movement. Also needs blinds on ghe attic windows as sunloght comes straight in. No facilities for recycling which thus dsy and age us needed

31/07/2022

We had a wonderful stay in this very comfy and spacious house (4 adults, 1 three year old, 2 dogs). Egton is peaceful and a perfect location for quiet unspoilt dog-friendly beaches within 15/20 minutes. We had one dinner at The Wheatsheaf opposite which serves excellent fresh food and they were kind enough to let us bring our final dinner back to the house to save one of us babysitting!
The house was full of character and relaxing to be in and has superb views across the moors from the bedroom windows. I expect we will be back!

What a lovely cottage in a perfect location! Both the local pubs across the road where lovely too. The house is beautifully decorated, however we didn’t use the front room as much as the white sofa is abit risky with red wine ?….

Everything was so clean & comfortable, all the family loved it, we will be recommending & hopefully be back ourselves.

10/10

Lovely comfortable property and in a great little village. Just a shame the heating wasn’t working in February.

Underfloor heating and open fires saved the days.

Its finished really nicely so just requires some attention to detail on the upkeep I.e. ensure light bulbs/lamps are all working and it would be a nice touch to have tv’s to the bedrooms.

We booked the house for the family celebration of our 50th/Golden Wedding. The accommodation was perfect in every way, lovely bedrooms, large lounge and dining room ideal for a family meal. The courtyard/patio was wonderful to sit in for early evening drinks in the sun and the large garden was a lovely surprise with views to the moors. On the Saturday, we ate dinner across the road at The Wheatsheaf - super food, drink and very friendly staff - vital to book a table at the weekend.

This place is a great place to stay as it has a great location right opposite two lovely pubs and close to a station that can take you to other little villages or straight into Whitby. However, it was easy enough to get a taxi into Whitby if you would prefer. The house had everything you would need and there was plenty of space. The pictures were accurate and it was a lovely place to stay. They were also very helpful and quick to reply if you had any problems. We would definitely stay again.

Business stay during COVID lockdown so can't comment on the convenience of the location, but this is a beautiful part of the world and was perfect for working in Glaisdale. A good base for those wishing to explore the Esk Valley and beyond and not far from local attractions in Whitby.

Spotlessly clean and great underfloor heating in the dining room/kitchen and central heating all round to keep at bay all that the British weather throw at us for the 2 weeks we were there.

Didn't get the chance to use the outdoor space, but courtyard provides a good private outdoor space with decent garden to the rear.

All in all a pleasant stay, and if I was stopping in the area for leisure would happily stay again.
