Well set out, plenty of room, kitchen facilities all there even tea / coffee milk etc.bathroom was nice, good strong powerful shower with shower gel and hand soup provided, nice clean towels.

Well being a plumber and general handy man I spot things, first kitchen tap handles need tightning up and becoming stiff so on there way out,I would say new tap choose a different style with handles at each side easier to use. Some kitchen doors need adjusting to shut properly, you need to leave better instructions on how to turn the electric heaters on says wi fi but we managed to get them on just by pure chance, and the hot water needs instructions as well in a written book form.Bedside light in the small bedroom, the locking nut is missing to hold shade down properly, loose!.Front door catches slightly, double bed door fire strip coming out doesn't shut itself without a push. All could be fixed free by me in exchange for free accommodation ??ha ha..As for location for a fit average person who can climb hills no problem, but an elderly or the or slightly unfit person i would say not for them, as its a very steep cobbled path to the front door.

Stayed here had to cancel are dinner plans as we had no hot water which the dinner was a birthday meal and was only reason for trip so pointless took most the night to sort it out. Have made a complaint and got nothing back was almost a week ago. Absolutely shocking really, carpets are filthy toilet stinks of wee and no hot water not worth the money stayed in cheaper accommodation and been looked after better in short don't waste your money on this one.

Perfect size for 4 people and in a great location right in the centre of Whitby.

Stayed with a baby and found beds good for co sleeping. Plenty of room downstairs for baby to crawl about safely. Very clean bedding and well equipped kitchen.

Location was quite noisy due to people walking past and seagulls. Doors creaked and slammed easily (annoying with a sleeping baby). No travel cot provided despite request. Bedrooms very hot in summer.

Great little cottage! Location very near the main harbour however the cottage is set up a quite steep alley so might be difficult for anyone with mobility issues. The cottage was spotless and had everything you need for a comfortable stay especially in the kitchen. Loved all the little touches like tea, coffee, sugar, milk, cleaning products, bathroom products. In the storage cupboard there was iron, ironing board, beach chairs, hoover, even a lovely picnic bag with all picnic equipment! Beds were comfy and bedding was crisp and clean. The cottage location makes the cottage quite dark so you need lights on for your stay but this was not an issue for us.

Few little things but nothing that would ruin your stay. Weather was very warm during our stay and the bedrooms get unbearably hot! Windows only open on safety latch (which i know will be safety policy) so you cant open them wide to get any air flow through. A fan in the bedrooms would definitley be a bonus for the hotter months. Carpet in living area and stairs cream coloured and bit grubby - could do with being updated. Shower screen is on a sliding hinge and came off its runner a few times during our stay. More loo roll to be left for guests as only 1 roll supplied for our family of 4 for a 3 night stay. With children loo roll us used for many other things and gets used very quick. No hairdryer - this would be useful to have in the room.

Great central location, did not need the car once during our stay. Was it was just us two friends sharing we found the accommodation to be sufficiently spacious and the rooms were fresh, clean and airy.
Only found couple of considerations
Steep narrow path from main road to front door OK for us but may not suit everyone.
Parking is extra, a parking scratch card is not included (Which was included by other previous cottage rentals)
We had a lovely stay despite the dreadful weather.
Whitby town centre, beach with pier, local restaurants and individual shops were all great

Great little cottage, perfect location. I would highly recommend, parking was only up the road at good prices, easy to find, had everything you need to have a lovely break, great communication from owners

There was a few small things, but nothing that would deter us from returning,

Absolutely gorgeous property. Close to everything we wanted to go to. The weather was a little chilly so we put the radiators on and it was soon cosy and warm. The decor is beautiful and we loved the colour scheme too. We couldn’t believe how nice it all was. The water pressure was excellent in the shower. The beds were comfortable and everything was clean.

If I had to say anything it’s that the cottage is located on a steep incline that is cobblestoned. However there is a handrail and my 84 year old mother who uses a stick, was able to manage it better than I thought she would.

The property was spotlessly clean and comfortable! It had such a cosy homely feel to it! Perfect for a weekend away!

We struggled with parking, so maybe more suggestions for car parking but the property definitely made up for that!

The cottage was a decent size and decorated to a good standard.

There was no heating during a very cold and wet weekend in a property that obtains little to no natural light or heat. This was made worse by having to stay in the property for much of Sunday because of the weather outside. This one factor meant that the other qualities of the property could not make up for this. This problem was not rectified during my stay because Host and Stay do not operate on weekend so there was no way to solve the problem and I had to just put up with being very cold.

Lovely little property in great location except on a very steep slope with no parking nearby and no garden or yard. Definitely not dog friendly. Host & Stay are an absolutely appalling company who do not care about their customers at all. They were happy to claim there was free on site parking prior to my booking (I even posed the question directly as it seemed impossible to me) and then when I found out this was actually completely false they provided no assistance or advice or support or compensation or anything. I called their office and were just told "oh sorry"; no one ever called me back. They ignored my first request for the complaints form and after I did get one and sent it in I have no response at all. After you pay for your booking they will also then demand an extra damage waiver fee and provide a whole load more rules like dogs are not allowed upstairs yet there is no gate fitted to stop them. I also discovered an Amazon Echo Dot secretly plugged in under a cupboard.

The cottage was even better than we expected and really cosy! The location is perfect providing that you don’t have any mobility issues due to to the steep path the cottage is located on; literally less than a minute walk down to the centre yet it is still fairly private and quiet.
It was straightforward finding the cottage and there was ample parking on Cliff St car park at all times which is roughly 300 yards away (you’ll be lucky to get much closer than this wherever you stay in Whitby!).
There was a parking permit provided and left in the cottage but didn’t get chance to look around for the applicable parking zones but this is ideal if you’re on a budget as it will save roughly £10 per day.
Thank you for a fantastic stay, we will definitely be returning!

Good location

The key code information was not emailed as they said, incorrectly, that i had not paid the deposit waiver.
When i finally got through, after several failed calls, due to the call being terminated as there was no one to answer, i had to email my receipt as proof. This is rather frustrating when there are parking restrictions and whilst standing in the dark cold evening air. The bottom roller was missing from the shower door. The 3 parts that needed re fitting were located in the bathroom cabinet and soap dish tray in the shower cubicle. These were refitted as required. This should of been picked up on the previous inspection.

Fab little cottage. Perfect for a family of 4. Location was great very close to all local attractions. Parking wasn’t an issue and easy to find.
A few small issues with heating and hot water but managed to figure it all out.
Responsive host. We would 100% return and recommend.

We had a really wonderful stay here, the location in particular and the fact it was dog friendly was just superb!
We actually got engaged on this trip, so it really was very special and it was lovely to have a home from home to enjoy it in.
The only reason I have given 4* rather than 5* is because the hot water didn’t work one evening and it was past office hours, so we were unable to resolve it. Other than that it was perfect & had everything that we needed. Thank you ?

Beautiful cottage in a gorgeous location.
Warm, cosy, high quality furnishings and very well equipped with everything that is needed for a comfortable stay.
Fabulous location, a few steps away from the main centre area.
Host & stay were very receptive to messages and we’re on hand to help with any queries.
Absolute gem of a cottage, would 100% recommend and we will be back to stay again.
Just one point I’d like to make, I’m not sure the beautiful lounge cream carpet will hold up for long against dogs, i love dogs but I don’t think this cottage is ideal for dogs.

Great location!!! Perfect in the centre. House felt very homely. Just note if you are driving it can be a steep 5/10 mins walk down from the nearest car park! we did have issues with the heating and it was very cold the first night- the host informed us of a manual for the heating system but it did not seem to work as they had it on a timer system. Other than that it was a great stay and I would recommend to others :) thank you!

John

perfect location near centre but quiet at same time

no parking space but parked 5 mins walk away.
I wouldn’t want to stop in winter as pier lane is on a hill and could be very slippery in icy conditions

Claire

05/10/2023

The cottage was clean and tidy and a good size for just the 2 of us. It's in a good location for walking to most places in Whitby. Something that I can't remember seeing in the description is that the cottage is on quite a steep pedestrianised cobbled lane and because of this would be unsuitable for anybody with mobility problems.

Well appointed, modern, comfortable & clean. Good kitchen & bathroom. Excellent shower. Central location, near to everything. Pets can stay free.

Hard to find and parking away from the property. On a steep alleyway. Cottage is dark inside & you always need a light on. Host & stay ask for an extra fee to cover damage, after you have booked. (£20.00)

Location was doesn't get any better and the house exceeded our expectations, the hosts were great as well, would definitely recommend and stay here again.

Cant think of anything I didn't like apart from the fact the telly didn't have normal tv programs such as ITV etc but it had Netflix and stuff so didn't bother us too much.

The property was spotlessly clean, modern and the decor was really nice. The location was great, really close to Whitby harbour front. All facilities were available and easy to use. Breckon cottage was really comfortable and cosy, perfect for our stay!

No negatives to say!

We have had a fantastic weekend at Breckon Cottage. The location is perfect, less than a 1 minute walk and you are down by the harbour and all the local amenities. 5 minutes and you can be down on the beach. The cottage itself is immaculate and has absolutely everything we could possibly have needed. For food we would recommend The Pier Inn and The Marine which are both a 1-2 minute walk away. We also had the most amazing Sunday lunch at The White Horse and Griffin. The cottage is accessed up a steep cobbled slope which some people may find difficult - my Mum who is 75 found it ok as there is a railing that can be used. For us though, being hidden up a side street, was one of the things we loved! Close to everything but a peaceful retreat from the busy harbour area when needed. We would absolutely love to visit again.
