The Space
Recently refurbished to the highest standard, Caedmon House is a stunning property with style in abundance. Sleeping up to 6 guests across three spacious bedrooms, this gorgeous property has it all. Upon entering the house, you’ll be welcomed into a bright hallway.

Head up the stairs to the living room and you’ll find a cosy space with a dark coloured feature wall and exposed beams. The perfect place to retreat to, relax on the corner sofa and turn on the flat screen TV to keep up with your favourite shows.

Take the steps up to the open plan kitchen and dining area. Beautifully styled, there is a light grey shaker style kitchen and a rustic wooden table with a matching bench and leather dining chairs. Fully equipped for all self-catering stays, you’ll have everything you could need for your visit.

Also on this floor is an en-suite bedroom with a comfy king bed. The neutral colour scheme creates a luxury and tranquil look. The en-suite bathroom boasts a large walk in shower, WC and basin. Head upstairs to the second floor and you’ll find a further two bedrooms and the family bathroom. Both rooms have king beds with plush bedding and premium linens. Packed with character, they feature sloped ceilings and unrivalled views of the town below. The master bathroom has exposed beams, a sloped ceiling with a low window and grey brick style tiles. Caedmon House is located on the East Cliff near the incredible Whitby Abbey. To get to the property, you pass through the grounds of the beautiful Grade II listed Abbey House, which was originally a monastic building until it was granted to the Cholmley family in 1541. You’ll be amongst plenty of history. Whitby Abbey was originally a 7th-century monastery and it even went on to inspire Bram Stoker’s famous gothic novel ‘Dracula’. Below, the East side of town is full of narrow, medieval streets dotted with boutiques, pubs and fish restaurants. Head over the swing bridge which sits over the River Esk and you’ll find yourself on the West side of Whitby. Continue to Pier Road and you’ll find more cosy pubs and restaurants as well as fun arcades. Continue along the lively road until you reach the beautiful, blue flag West Cliff Beach which is lined with idyllic beach huts.

Getting Around
The centre of Whitby is a short ten-minute walk from Caedmon House. Whitby train station half a mile away on foot so villages and towns along the North Yorkshire coast can easily be reached via rail. As soon as we entered the living room we were all blown away by the stunning views of the town below. We stepped up in to the kitchen where the amazing views of the town and sea continued to mesmerise us.
The house was spotlessly clean and well equipped. The kitchen was a great place to dine and we enjoyed relaxing on the huge comfy sofa. The location right by the abbey was amazing because it was so peaceful and quiet. You have to be organised in terms of provisions as you can't just pop to the local shop but this was a small price to pay to stay in such an amazing property.
We found the lack of blinds in the upstairs bathroom way too exposing so we propped pillows against the windows for privacy. The bottom of the cafetiere was missing. Other than that faultless!

Lovely views over Whitby, near the brewery. Plenty of space in house. When contacted host did sort out our problem.
Problem with radiators, 5 out of 9 cold. Dust and mould on some windows. Needs draws In bedrooms. Coat rack in hall would be handy.

Great cottage. Private parking for 2 cars in Whitby is very rare.

Brilliant weekend away for the family. Plenty of space and beautiful views off Whitby.

Absolutely beautiful place to stay in Whitby, literally right next to the Abbey.
The house is modern and cosy on the inside. It boasts lovely views of the whole harbour.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back again.

A beautiful holiday stay in the perfect location, very spacious and nicely furnished, would definitely recommend!

Location was perfect to visit all the amenities that Whitby had to offer. Views were amazing, house was well appointed and very comfortable for our family. An added bonus was closeness of Whitby Brewery and YHA cafe and bar.
Will definitely stay again.
Hallway would benefit from coat and boot rack.
We had expected salt and pepper, pint glasses and cleaning fluid but didn’t affect our wonderful stay

Great stay in a fantastic location

It was clean, cozy & comfortable with amazing views.
N/A

Very spacious house in a great location, close by to the local town. Would stay here again.

Fabulous location and we loved the house. There was everything we could need and more. The views from every window were wonderful.
Blinds in the velux windows in one of the upstairs bedrooms would be good.

Fantastic accommodation with amazing views of Whitby and the Abbey when you leave the property.
The only issue we had was finding the place. The instructions send you to the Abbey car park and then stop. Written instructions should be provided from there as you have to go through a small arch through the National heritage site.

Lovely building in a great location, let down by cleanliness, fridge and freezer had remnants of food in, there were coffee rings on bedside tables in all rooms that clearly hadnt been wiped.
Also downstairs shower not working properly and doesnt seem to be enough glasses/utensils etc. For 6 people

Amazing location, just at the top of Whitby steps and with an amazing view of the abbey just round the corner.
Clean, comfy and all the expected mod cons.
Overall really enjoyed our stay.

Great location but could have been much cleaner. Idea and beds amazing kitchen would benefit from being better provided for

Beautiful spacious home, overlooking Whiby. location was great right next to the abbey, with fantastic views. Would definitely book this place again for a family get together. plenty room for 3 couples to spread out in comfort.

Great location!

The cottage is in a beautiful location with wonderful views of Whitby and although it is a little difficult to find at first it is worth the effort. It is well equipped generally although the oven does not work well and also a pair of oven gloves and properly working can opener would be good. The decor is nice but could do with a redecorate at the end of the season in certain areas. It could also do with skylight windows blinds in one of the upstairs bedrooms. Also the shower in the downstairs bedroom is a little hard to get to work sometimes. The blinds and the shower were mentioned on day one of our 3 night stay and were told someone would have a look but it seems like nobody came.
Overall we did thoroughly enjoy our stay there and despite pointing out some minor flaws, we would recommend a stay here. It seems that the cleaning team are doing a great job while the maintenance team needs to try harder .

Wow, what a beautiful place to stay.
The house is set in the Abbey grounds with a perfect view of Whitby from EVERY window.
The house has been done to a very high standard & the pictures represent the house well.
We were a group of 3 but 6 people would fit in the house comfortably.
The beds are extremely comfy.
There are a few minor things that need addressing in this house to make it worth top dollar (Shared with the host) but it didn't stop us thoroughly enjoying our stay & we plan to return & have already told others how beautiful it is.
Thank you.

You couldn't ask for a better views of Whitby, and the property is very comfortable.
If you have dogs, it's worth noting that there isn't a closed off garden area, but there is plenty of green space by the large car park.
We also found that 3 medium cars could fit on the drive comfortably without taking up more than the allocated space.
Highly recommend the brewery which is a stones throw!

Although the precise location was hard to find, we were amazed to see how close to the Abbey we were, and it was ideally situated for the Trek event we were doing. The location and the style of the property exceeded our expectations. There were a few areas of maintenance probably needed but nothing that spoiled our stay. The kitchen was well-equipped and clean, and the bathrooms were clean and had all we needed. Bedrooms were well-presented. There were four of us staying (adults) and the accommodation was perfect for that number. Easy walk down to town where there was plenty to do and some good restaurants. Lots of steps back up, but good for us!

Amazing location with a view over the Abbey ruins on one side and the Harbour and Sea on the other. Quite stunning. Beautifully designed modern interior, although in need of a bit of TLC this should not deter anyone wanting a peaceful location just minutes from the hustle and bustle of Whitby. There was a small “area” of garden adjoining the neighbours larger lawn which I don’t remember seeing on the description but was a welcome discovery for the 6am dog let outs! The house had everything we needed with the bonus of great views!

Good size cottage for 6 people, great location.

Very peaceful to be located in the grounds of Whitby with amazing from all angles.

Views are amazing. House was very comfortable.
Just loved everything about it.
Thank you
Radiators beed bleeding, as not all work.
Drains in kitchen could do with a clean as smelt like sewage when using the washing machine.
Shower screen on top floor leaks alot and gets the floor under the sink very wet. Needs looking at.

Fabulous place to stay. Property was great and well equipped.
Walking distance into Whitby and surrounding area. Don’t let the 199 steps up to the property put you off, it’s worth it!

Wonderful location and great character property. The views were spectacular of both the Abbey and Whitby town.
There was no information about any appliances, what to do with rubbish, or anything at all. There was also a horrible smell coming from the kitchen sink whenever used despite pouring boiling water down the drain.

Lovely location very close to the town the 199 steps are not as bad as expected although better going down than back up. Check in smooth , make sure to follow the exact location pin given to you closer to the time as this sends you to the property could be difficult to locate otherwise. Modern inside, quite a few steps inside so if mobility problems could be difficult. Property needs a little tlc in terms of maintenance inside. During our stay it rained quite heavy which we think caused a leak on the ground floor ceiling (looks like a crack had been patched up previously) and the tap in the kitchen area was dripping although it was turned off. Raised issues with host and stay-quick response back and someone came to have a look. Dog friendly although would have liked a closed off yard area for dog to run freely. Check out smooth although would have been nice to check out later than 10am and allow check in a little earlier than 4pm.All in all had everything needed for our short stay.

Ideally located right next to Whitby abbey and only a couple of minutes from the brewery. It really is a beautiful location to look over the town. If you are looking for somewhere that is away from the centre for peace and quiet then this place is perfect. Its less than a 5 minute walk down the 199 steps into town. Clean, cosy and fantastic views and on a clear evening you can watch the sunset over the bay, what more could you need. The rooms are spacious, beds are comfy and the living room and kitchen area are well kitted out for a group stay. Highly recommend and would definitely stay again.

We could not have been happier with the property and its location. Unfortunately on entering the property there was a noticeable smell of damp. It was mostly coming from inside a cupboard in the kitchen where the smell was strong. The smell of damp was also noticeable in the ensuite bathroom. Additionally the temperature in the lounge was uncomfortably cold as the main radiator was lukewarm at best on its highest setting. The radiator in the ensuite bathroom did not work at all and on a cold weekend it made using the bathroom a miserable experience. Having spent over £800 for a 3 night stay I did not expect to have to wrap up warm inside the property and suffer the smell of damp. Sort the damp and heating out and this is a perfect airbnb property !

The location is fantastic, amazing scenery and views out of every window. The accommodation is a home away from home, really comfortable, clean and has everything you need. The beds are perfect and really comfy - not too soft & not too hard. There was nothing to fault at all. We will definitely be back here in the not too distant future! The communication was great and all info we needed was sent over to us beforehand. No problems getting in to the accommodation and parking right to the front is a real bonus.
Nothing!

We enjoyed our stay- great location, great views, nice views but here are a few observations from the stay.

1/ it was top dollar in terms of price
2/ under one of the upstairs beds was a Rocky chocolate biscuit- I don’t know how long that had been there.
3/ shower in the en-suite was very difficult to turn off and on
4/ Xpelair in the en-suite didn’t appear to work hence
5/ en -suite bathroom radiator again didn’t appear to work
6/ mould in the downstairs bedroom had to be removed by the window on the right hand side. This I believe is due to xpelair not working & resulting in mould in the bedroom
windows
7/glasses in the kitchen had to be re-washed as they were dirty.

The most perfect stay! Will hopefully be back soon ??

The property has excellent layout, is very spacious and still has that cosy cottage feel. The views from each window are absolutely stunning.
we loved it. no negative points.

Perfect location for our mini break. House was wonderful with great views from every window. Kitchen is fully equipped so you can cook and stay in or walk down into the centre of Whitby. Will definitely use if we come back.

Caedmon House is a great place to stay. It’s right next to Whitby Abbey and only 199 steps down to Whitby old town. The views and walks are excellent, and it’s very close to Whitby Brewery for great beer and pizza!
We stayed for 3 nights but wished it had been for longer - we would certainly stay here again.

Amazing property in an incredible location. Spotlessly clean and fantastic communication.

the decor & layout, but the views!! they were something else! every window had an amazing view!
it was cold due to a hitch with the heating but it was partly fixed the next day

Had a great stay. This was the second time we have stayed at this Airbnb and we love it.

Only down side was, the coffee poss for the coffee machine weren't the right pods for the machine itself, and there was no milk in the fridge on arrival, which there was on our first stay. Very minor issues on the whole.

Really lovely place and well situated in regards to everything in Whitby. Had an issue with one of the bathrooms but reported straight away and the response from the hosts was really quick. Loved the house itself and could have stayed there much longer! Best to follow the guidebook on how to access by car though. Overall a wonderful stay and a nice surprise being so close to the brewery, they made lovely pizzas!

We booked a two night stay at this property at the beginning of January 2023. The house was lovely, nicely decorated, very clean and spacious. The location was great, we were practically in the grounds of the abbey and the views of Whitby were amazing. We had zero complaints about the inside of the property.

I did have a fall on the pathway leading to the door of the property as a large stone bollard was placed across the pathway and as there was no outside lighting and the bollard was not highlighted in anyway the fell over it in the dark and suffered some nasty cuts and grazes, it was a shame is it happened within two hours of checking in so put a slight dampener on the break! So just be careful of that bollard if you stay.

We were really keen to re-book this place and we even had a few friends that were interested after we showed them the pictures however we won’t book this place again due to the after contact with Home Stay who are the company that look after the property.

I left a couple of things behind at the house and it took 4 emails and 2 phone calls over a period of two weeks to finally be told they didn’t have my items. Two items were left in the washing machine by mistake and they have claimed that nothing was handed in. I know full well that they were left so to tell me that house-keeping didn’t find anything was a blatant lie as well as being fobbed off for two weeks. The items weren’t super expensive but did cost me £50.00 to replace, as one item was a equa-fleece dog all in one suit and a pair of bamboo socks. It was just so disappointing that they clearly have some very dishonest staff who would happily help themselves to guests property, whether that was keeping it themselves or disposing of it because they couldn’t be bothered to save it for me.

I also sent through the pictures of my injuries after the fall and I just received a ‘sorry about that and the ‘bollard was put there by the neighbour so not really our problem’ type of response - despite the bollard being on the pathway leading to the door of the property.

Anyway, all I would say is, the house is lovely you will not be disappointed but just be very aware of the stone bollard and do not accidentally leave any items behind as you will not see them again.

Great location with amazing view over Whitby! It’s on the door step of the Abby, and there is a great Brewery with freshly made Pizza around the corner. The property has a lot of character with wooden beams and trusses - we loved it!

A beautiful cottage with stunning views of Whitby and the Abbey from the property. A lovely cottage, very well styled and plenty of space for a family of 5 and a dog.
Some of the radiators may need bleeding as some were colder than others. An additional bonus would be to have tea, coffee and sugar available already at the property.

The location, peaceful yet close to Whitby. The view from the house is spectacular.
A house that soon became home over New Year.
Excellent facilities, beautifully presented with everything we needed.
Hosts communication was excellent. Thank you

Fabulous place to stay - very clean and cosy, great views, fabulous location. Make sure you read the instructions on how to get there clearly - we arrived in the dark and even with the instructions it was incredibly difficult to find. We managed it though eventually and it was worth the confusion. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend

The cottage was in a stunning location right next to Whitby Abbey, with views to die for from every window.
Pre arrival instructions were clear, check in was easy, and the cottage was clean, modern and very comfortable.
would definitely recommend for a visit to Whitby, perfect for three couples

We had a great stay at Caedmon House. The accommodation is exceptional, plenty of room, lovely bedrooms, nice fresh bedding & towels. Great kitchen and living space. The location is perfect for accessing the town and the views from the windows are exceptional, looking out over the harbour at night was really special. We will certainly be back as soon as we can.

This cottage and location is perfect. The view from the bedrooms of the bay are really something. The house is modern, and cosy. Bedrooms are modern. Bathrooms were nice and new and every window in the house had something amazing to see when you looked out. Lounge sofa was very comfy and cosy and we loved our evenings in there.

2 minutes from Whitby centre. Hope you like steps!

A few little details missed on check in. The house smelt very strongly of the previous residents dinner, and dried contact lenses left on bedside table. There was incense in one of the kitchen drawers so we lit that and it soon sorted the curry smell.

Would recommend. Considering booking again for next year!

I have visited Whitby many times, and Caedmon's Cottage on the Abbey grounds has been the MOST exquisite property I've stayed in yet. We made some unforgettable memories, the surroundings feel like an otherworldly film set, the accommodations both modern and historical are a perfect balance. Thank you for the use of this magnificent home, we shall return! - Jasmine, Death & the Maiden

A great location in easy reach of Whitby for able bodied people complete with fantastic views and easy access onto the coastal footpath. The accommodation was comfortable and of a good specification.

The location is absolutely fantastic. The accomodation has large bed- and bathrooms and a fully equipped kitchen. The property is well maintained and a blown fuse was fast and satisfactory replaced. Well done!
Just a few minor things. It's rather a puzzle how to get to the property with ones car but once you realize you actually have to go through the abbey grounds, the property can easily be reached. The outside light by the front door wasn't functioning (and we failed to report it) and opening the keysafe was at times a kind of lottery (will it open or will it not open?). Other than that we missed a coat rack in the hall, and hooks to hang coats/clothing from in the bed- and bathrooms. The property was advertised as having board games, puzzles and books available on the premises but unfortunately none were present.

very spacious and really lovely decor
the window was broken on the first floor rang straight away to make them aware I did receive an email to say a maintenance man was coming that day 4 days later still not fixed

Absolutely loved our stay at Caedmon House! Check in was a breeze as you just retrieve the key from the lock box. The property is beautiful. Lovely period property but the interior is done to a high standard. The kitchen has everything you need and more, including a nespresso machine and washing machine. There is also tea, coffee, sugar, salt, pepper and some laundry and dishwasher tablets provided, which is good as we forgot these!! We had a tiny issue where one of the smoke alarms was beeping, but they sent someone round to sort this the same day no stress. My only feedback is would be to have a smaller lamp in the lounge so it’s not as bright when you’re trying to relax and also the property needs hooks!! Coat hooks in the entrance and hooks in the bathroom are needed as there wasn’t really anywhere for us to dry our towels. Also the drying rack provided was broken so this needs replacing. But overall an amazing stay in a fantastic location. The views are worth the price alone!!!

Beautiful place, clean, spacious and well appointed. The 199 are literally 1min walk from the front door.
One thing to note is parking was difficult to find on the first day and could be addressed in the itinerary. We looked for ages at the right way to get in. You have to drive THROUGH Whitby abbey to get to the house. There is a road left hand of the English Heritage ticket office. We hesitated for ages as it feels like you're driving through a monument but that is the way in.

Everything! Nothing about this property could i fault, spacious, beautifully decorated, amazing location and views, brilliant amenities even milk and Nespresso machine with pods provided ?
Check out time 10am especially on a Sunday. I think an extra hr would have been so much less stressful especially as a family with 3 teenagers!

We had a fantastic stay at Caedmon House. The property and location are absolutely incredible. The house was furnished to a really high standard and we felt like we really were in a luxury home. The views are stunning.
Thank you so much for a wonderful stay.

Great location , comfortable beds
Electrics required attention.which was quite alarmingly.Only certain sockets could be used without tripping all the electrics in the premises.Reported the issue, electrician arrived promptly next day who checked circuit board. Amp-age for the premises was wrong and had to request the owner for permission to change amp-age over. It was imperative that the electrics were repaired as my daughter and our five month old granddaughter arrived the following day. Access to the kitchen and electric socket was important as my granddaughter required feeding over night and I was concerned that the lighting in the property may trip over night whilst my daughter was going down stairs. My daughter preferred the upper floor bedroom as it was quieter away from the family area for our granddaughter to sleep.
Not enough cutlery, only three forks, not enough glassware, no glasses fir juice or water. Did request further glasses and they arrived two days later, however in fairness I tried to purchase glassware locally at five shops and supermarkets but no glasses were available. Nevertheless , things should be checked before hand really before we arrived and if things had been stolen or broken they should have been replaced or message sent to me to advised .

Fantastic accommodation in a lovely location with excellent views. We’ll be certain to return. Thanks

The property itself was stunning, furnished really nicely and the views were unbeatable.
Location wise, it could not be better (assuming you can manage steps) with Whitby town centre being less than 5 minutes away.
The Whitby Brewery is a very short walk away which was a bonus serving great beer and fresh pizza.
The driveway was suitable for 2 cars and provided a safe secure place to park the car.
Dog friendly was a bonus, our dog loved it. There is no garden though, just a small front yard which is not secure so worth noting if you are taking your dog.
There were a couple of things that caused us slight issues, with blown bulbs and an iron that kept tripping the electrics.
But all in all I would recommend and would consider staying again.

Apart from the stunning location, the interior being amazing they have thought of everything with this property, to list a few , milk in the fridge , washing up liquid/dishwasher tablets , cooking oil, tea, coffee etc . Never expected this !
There is nothing that I didn’t like but for the purpose of putting something in this box the small outside area needs a little TLC. This did not however alter the fact we had an amazing time in the lovely house .

This is a really great place - so much better than it even looks on the website. The location is amazing - incredible views over the harbour and of the abbey (which is practically next door). Great property, comfortable, and with everything we needed.

Use the previous review

excellent style and great location
the bedroom lights didn’t work properly and flickered just a change of bulb needed in the downstairs bedroom.

This is an absolute killer location ( pun intended ). Stunning views over Whitby and so cool to be in the abbey grounds.
The apartment is well presented and very clean. Very private. Good set up of one ensuite and two rooms sharing. Would work well for a family. Was great for myself and my two brothers.
We loved just jumping straight on the Cleveland way and hiking along the coastal path. We actually enjoyed the daily steps but obviously you can also drive down easily in to the town if walking an issue.
Would always look to stay here for future trips!

Amazing location, perfect little home for a family getaway. The place was beautiful inside and out, it was lovely and clean and we loved every minute of it.

spacious, comfortable and a super location.
Could possibly benefit from a better seating area in the garden.

Amazing location

We had a great time at the house, which was clean and tastefully presented. The views in all directions are fantastic, and walking down the 199 steps into town was really nice. It also helped to be away from the noise of the town on a Saturday night (we were staying with young children). Highly recommend!

What a lovely place to stay! The views were fantastic and we all enjoyed looking out of the windows and on the animals in the grass below and the views of Whitby. The house itself is decorated in a modern style and was lovely and clean. The grounds in which it is, makes the house even more special and we thoroughly enjoyed our time in Whitby. Communication with the hosts was fantastic and questions were answered quickly. We’ve had a wonderful family trip!

Beautiful property and location. We really enjoyed our stay. Pretty much faultless.

If you are a fan of Whitby, as I am, then this is the perfect place to stay. Views are amazing from all rooms and the abbey is next door. It's a 5 minute stroll down the steps into town. Beds are comfortable, and bedrooms are spacious. The bathrooms are modern and you have hot water on demand. Plenty of entertainment options from the smart tv, which is a good size, with a good picture. Kitchen has all the amenities you will need for your stay. We had a great few days and I hope to return again.

Location and views
Lack of kitchen equipment

This cottage is located within the grounds of the Abbey! The views are absolutely amazing from nearly every window. Super clean and if any problems they are dealt with quickly. Hope to be back soon.

We had a lovely stay, the property is in an amazing location and there are gorgeous views of the town and harbour from every window. The property is decorated and furnished to a high standard and we found it very comfortable. The 199 steps to the Abbey may be an issue for the less mobile but we enjoyed the challenge, the Whitby Brewery was very close and was an added bonus. We had to contact the Host & Stay team when we had a slight maintenance issue and they were really helpful and sent someone out the next morning.
We did find cooking a main meal quite difficult as there was no large pans and quite a few pieces of the crockery and cutlery were dirty and needed cleaning before we could use them. Overall it was a minor inconvenience and did not affect our holiday, we would definitely stay again.

Wonderful cottage with fabulous views. Very clean, with everything that you could wish for. Quality fixtures and fittings. Really loved our stay here. Private parking is a bonus in Whitby! Feels very special to be so close to the Abbey.

Initial impression of the property was very good. It had everything we expected from the description on booking.com. Location, for us, was excellent, fantastic views across the river to Whitby town and lovely views out to sea. Walking back from town may be difficult for some as there are 199 steps to climb up to the area around the Abbey!
The attitude of HostandStay regarding a legitimate complaint about the main shower not working was appalling. We are a family of four (two adult daughters) and none of us were able to operate the main shower. We had a 2 night stay and on the first day emailed them to advise of the problem. Initially we were unable to operate the en-suite shower, but eventually I was able to switch it on, although it was exteremly difficult. Their stance all along has been that the showers were working and just "a bit stiff". That was absolutely not the case and as one of the major reasons for choosing this property was it had 2 showers (with 3 females in the group), we considered a partial refund was a legitimate outcome. All they would do was offer a 20% discount off another break with them. By continuing with their mantra of "they were working properly and just a bit stiff", they were in effect making me out to be a liar! There are many other companys on booking.com, choose one of them!

Had the best time staying in Whitby, it was the perfect location with incredible views! House was really clean and the beds were super comfy!

AMAZING!! Perfect location and stunning house. Very clean and homely. Would definitely recommend

Best views in Whitby, lovely property and location…

Great property, great location. Beautiful views from all windows. Enjoyable stay.

Very good

Fabulous accommodation in an amazing position next to Whitby abbey.
Fantastic views over the bay, especially striking at sunset/sunrise.

Everything was clean and tidy and the place was super spacious. The accommodation is premium, great location and everything you need home from home! The views from every window are amazing.

Preciosa ubicación. Maravillosa casa

Firstly, what a location! You arrive wondering how lucky you are to be neighbours with the famous Whitby Abbey!! The cottage is newly renovated, modern but still with so much character & oh so cozy!! The carpets were lush!! Each bedroom well thought of with everything you need for a good nights sleep. Linen, pillows and beds were really comfortable & warm. Loved the walk in shower & plenty of hot water for a bath! Kitchen well equip & the views from every living space is just pure bliss. The horses grazing & galloping in the field overlooking the harbour was my favourite part of the morning with a cuppa coffee sitting in the window sill. Smart TV set up with Sky, Netflix etc a real treat especially with some very cold & wet nights. Ample parking for 2 vehicles. We have stayed in many AirBnBs and I can honestly say, this is definitely one of our favourite. We look forward to returning to Caedmon House next year!

The property is really special, lots of history , set in the grounds of the Abbey, the view from the kitchen window is beautiful morning and night, it is spotlessly clean , the decor is beautiful and the beds are comfortable and the location is perfect.
nothing

Very good

A fantastic short break in a great property overlooking town and harbour, right by the abbey - our party of six had a great time and loved this well situated accommodation - highly recommended!

Brilliant place to stay, perfect location, beautifully decorated and a must for a family of 6 and a dog! We have already given the details to friends and family!

Quality of premises and fascilities. Location.
Beds could have been comfier

Great looking house in the grounds of the abbey. Well decorated and clean, pet friendly. You are on top of the hill so the steps will keep you fit. So quiet in the evening from 5pm onwards.
WiFi was poor, not reliable. Outside space for the dog not enclosed.

Wonderful location, Fabulous views.
Peaceful and quiet.
WiFi was tricky to get and intermittent.

When we arrived there were no table & chairs to sit on, I phoned Stay at North Yorkshire & they said there was n

The views were brilliant
Internet intermittent, upstairs shower control stiff. Hob and oven seemed to have low power.
Suggestions for useful additions, oven gloves, large pan and ladle, hooks for coats and towels.

I liked all you could see...inside and out!!!!
Even has a garden to sit in with tables and chairs..mthe key lock is a great idea too.
Everything about this place is just fabulous
The location.the house..right next to the abbey at the top of the 199 steps.beauriful views from every window!!! All you need for a really great break away

We visited Whitby with family, and this location could not have been better. It says ‘overlooking’ the Abbey... this is an understatement, you have amazing views and you actually have to go through the archway of the Abbey grounds to access the properly. There is parking for 2 cars and a garden area. Inside is lovely, newly refurbished and very well kept. The bedrooms are specious and there’s an end-suite, main bathroom and a downstairs loo, so plenty of space for a family of 6. I would definitely book here again! The only point to mention is that you have to walk down the steps into Whitby, but it’s not too bad, we did it with a toddler and a 70 year old, but there are quite a lot of steps ?alternatively, you could drive round n down into Whitby and just park the car up ( we did this one day too so we could take chairs, windbreak etc to the beach. There are some lovely restaurants in Whitby, and of course lots of fish and chips!

We arrived on Monday 24th May 6 adults celebrating my husbands 75th birthday. From start to finish we had a fabulous time. We had the key code sent via text and email..no problems whatsoever...on entry we all smiled and were really pleased with the house. everything was spotless.decor was really lovely homely and really welcoming. the beds were really comfy...the bathrooms were fully equipped with towels and shower gels too you cant go wrong at Caedmon House..even the lovely gent next door lent us two chairs to sit in the garden as there was only four....We walked down into Whitby from the house which took about 10mins and the taxi back was £6ish I love this place and hopefully will be back..Im going to let everyone know just how fab it is

Clean, family friendly in a luxury setting.
Nothing

exhilarating experience

Very well laid out and very spacious. Nicely decorated and furnished.
Having to leave.

Great apartment in perfect location.

This was one of the best places I’ve stayed. The accommodation was superb, with its modern, apartment living feel. The bedrooms were spacious, as was the shower! Private parking next to the property made life very easy. The hill top location near the abbey, with views of Whitby from every window, was simply amazing. We also all enjoyed the friendly local brewery and cliff top walks just a five minute walk away. Sian at Guest Relations was also really helpful. Can’t recommend this cottage enough!

It’s a must stay! Prefect location with great views of Whitby and the Abbey. House was very clean and plenty of space for 6 people. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone seeking a weekend get away to the coast

An excellent place to stay, great views of the abbey and the harbour. The town is walking distance. The space itself was very comfortable, stylish and well equipped. Would definitely recommend

Overall a great stay, welcomed by an exceptionally clean house. The views from the house & surrounding areas on all sides are stunning. Great house layout, good use of space. Checked in/out with ease & good communication throughout.

We’ve had a lovely stay at Caedmon House. Great location next to the Abbey, but please be mindful of the 199 steps down to the town. The house has a modern interior with white crisp bed linen and comfortable beds. The fantastic views from the kitchen and lounge windows looks out over Whitby Harbour and the Sea.
We had a fantastic meal at the michelin star fish restaurant ‘Star in the Harbour’ and award winning fish & chip restaurant ‘Trenchers’, both are worth a visit.
I would definitely recommend Caedmon House to anyone looking for a stylish modern place in a great location.

What an amazing place to stay! The house was even more beautiful inside all amenities within! The most fantastic views from all windows!! Being in the abbey grounds was such a privilege. Absolutely perfect spot from which to explore Whitby, easy access both driving and walking! We were given very accurate directions to find the property and a video too which was very helpful and thought ful!
Information booklet inside told you all about the area, and hosts easy to get in touch with!
Absolutely fantastic stay will definately be back!!

Excellent location in the grounds of the Abbey. Views of Whitby are absolutely stunning, from all windows. The early morning dog walk was a delight, walking around the Abbey grounds admiring the sea views. The house has been refurbished to a very high modern standard. Beautiful large bedrooms and bathrooms. Everything and more you’d want in a kitchen. Warm and cosy lounge. The cottage was very clean. There were 4 of us and a dog but plenty of room for 6. Easy to park and has a wonderful private garden with great views too. A 10-15 minute walk into Whitby down and up the 199 steps. If you find steps difficult then you can drive down or take the tourist bus which stops at the Abbey.

Home Truths

The living room, kitchen and dining area are located on the first floor, so you will need to take the stairs upon entering the property.

The drive through the Abbey grounds archways can be quite tight, so take care when approaching in a larger vehicle.

There are some sloping ceilings on the top floor, so please be sure to mind your head when looking out of the windows.
