Thank you for our short stay. Enjoyed the house and location.

Lovely place and good responsive hosts

We loved our stay at Whitby. The house was well equipped for our family of 4 in a great location to walk in to Whitby or explore other beaches in the coast such as Sandsend. We would love to come back.

The place was very nice and clean and is very well equipped. It doesn't have it's own parking spot but we always managed to find a spot in the neighboring streets. In general we were very satisfied...

Well located with good amenities

Parking was very difficult

Fabulous stay at Railmans Rest. Cosy, clean and very comfortable with a great welcome tray on arrival. Great location with easy access to the town and all the amenities. Parking super easy, despite Whitby being challenging for parking. Really comfortable home from home that was well equipped and spotlessly clean.

Sooooo…….the property is fabulous! Immaculately clean, everything you need and in a great location.

I really did not want to leave a bad review because the property was so good. However, after complaining and getting no resolution I feel I’ve had no choice. I booked this property for 8 people and when we arrived it actually only accommodates 6 people, 2 members of our party had to return home. Host and stay who managed the property were dam right useless! I complained a month ago and have only just had a very blunt reply saying no compensation will be provided, not even an explanation as to why it let me book a property for 8 people when it actually only accommodates 6! We’ve had an awful experience! Our holiday was ruined! Like I say, this is a shame because the property is beautiful and in an excellent location! This has purely been an error on the company that manages the property. Quite honestly, a word to the owner, manage the property yourselves, you will do a better job!

Let me book for 8 when actually only accommodates 6

Fantastic property beautifully decorated and really well equipped. Kitchen was fantastic with loads of crockery and glasses. Nice welcome pack which was really appreciated. Fell lucky with free parking right outside house. Easy check in. Property was spotless on arrival. Only negative was would have been great to have another toilet/en-suite when there are 5 of you but we knew when we booked it didn’t have that so only a comment for consideration. Having the option for early check in or late check out would also have been good but appreciate not always possible at busy times

A lovely couple of days staying at Railman’s Rest. It had a real home from home feel about it. Immaculately clean and very spacious. The bedding and towels all smelt amazing!
Nice touch from the host leaving items for our arrival , such as milk, juice, cookies, tea bags etc (not many places do this, and I feel it makes all the difference) even sanitary products in the bathroom were available.
My boys were impressed with a PS4 in their room on the top floor.
Location was perfect. Maximum 10 minute walk into the town centre.
Overall, a wonderful couple of days, thanks to such homely accommodation. Will definitely return and would highly recommend.

Warm and cosy - well decorated with lots of extra touches.
Lots of character.
Can walk into Whitby in 5 minutes.

Parking was a challenge.

Great accommodation, very homely, short walk into Whitby centre

Comfortable , cosy , warm

No parking

Beautiful space, really lovely.

Lovely air b&b, a real home from home! Great location, only a short walk into Whitby. House is beautifully decorated and very spacious.

Beautifully presented home, tastefully decorated. Central location, easy walk into town yet peaceful, with a very friendly pub a fee doors away. Welcome pack provided - much appreciated after a long drive - and plenty of books and games to keep us entertained in front of the log burner. Spotlessly clean. Ideally located for exploring Whitby on foot, or going wider afield to explore the stunning coast and countryside - lots of recommendations and useful info provided by the hosts. No allocated parking but we had no problems finding on-street parking very close to the property. Highly recommended, wish we could have stayed longer.

It’s was just right for the 6 of us space wise. Really convenient getting to the centre of Whitby.
Our only criticism was that the accommodation could benefit from a second bathroom or perhaps an en-suite
Overall though we would definitely stay again in the future

We had a lovely few days at the Railman’s Rest. The location was very convenient, 10 min walk max to centre of Whitby, the large co op, bars and restaurants.
The house is beautifully presented with lovely welcome touches (local tea, local cake etc.) and all the equipment you need in a house. Very clean and very comfortable, we felt right at home.
Parking is obviously a little tricky, but that’s not this property, but any in Whitby really, but we got both cars parked within 1 min of the house and there were clear instructions on car parks nearby anyway.
The location was brilliant, quiet little street, really friendly local pub on the corner and a fish and chip shop opposite that. The walk back from town is up a steep hill, which keeps you fit! My elderly parents managed it, slowly, but it would be difficult if significant mobility issues, although there were always taxis in town and Whitby is hilly!
Thank you for a lovely stay, we would thoroughly recommend to others

The property was spacious, great attention to detail with every provided for a wonderful stay

There was no breakfast. Location was fine not far to walk to wherever we needed to go

Nothing

Nothing bad to say in regards to our stay, very lovely house which was spacious and located in walking distance from town (although there is a big hill so bear in mind). Would stay again if in the area. Had everything we needed and was decorated beautifully.

Beautiful home to stay in. Good location to visit Whitby from. We parked the car up and never used it. Good thing as the streets are tight.
Everything we needed at the house. Super comfortable and plenty of space for a big family.

Really spacious house with everything you could need. The rooms were all spotless and the bedrooms were really comfortable.

Only one bathroom which is worth considering if you are in a bigger group. Also a bit of a hill to walk up to get there but only a five minute walk into the centre of Whitby.

The house was beautiful, felt homely but not like we were staying in someone else's home. Most facilities were great and the beds were super comfy.

The toilet wasn't working on arrival. We contacted Host and Stay who said they would get the owner to contact us. However, no-one contacted us and in the end my dad had to fix the toilet for us. It was up a steep hill so if you're walking into Whitby and back, brace yourself! We were lucky with finding parking nearby, but its not ideal if you can't find a space on the local streets.

Lovely house had a lovely time, only drawback very noisy next-door neighbours.

A beautiful cottage within a short walk from Whitby town. The hosts have thought of everything to make guests feel at home - beautiful clean bedding, comfortable seating areas, a well stocked immaculate kitchen with so many glasses, plates, utensils, a washing machine and dishwasher. We were delighted to find fresh milk, tea bags and cake on our arrival - after a long journey this was so welcome. Bonus for us was being able to take our little chihuahua. Bonus for our granddaughter was the games console in her bedroom. I highly recommend this property.

Really nice house - well maintained and good location for accessing town. House was difficult to find and parking was very difficult in local streets. Also resented having to pay another £25 damage waiver - why not just include it in the asking price? Also no mention of the steepness of the stairs to the top bedroom.
We had a lovely stay but deal with these extra issues and it would have been 5 stars!!

Period house restored and modernised sympathetically.

A lovely house, very clean, good location , we enjoyed our stay very much. The towels & sheets smelled amazing..nice little extras in the kitchen like tea, coffee, biscuits, cake & milk..
Could not fault the house, would recommend it to family & friends..

Could be better description. There are two number 4s in the street.

Location excellent for exploring Whitby.

The key code box was a little tricky to operate.

We loved this cottage. It exceeded our expectations. The accommodation was clean, comfortable and welcoming. I would definitely stay here again.

The property is excellent. Totally recommend anyone to stay here .
it is beautifully decorated, extremely stylish and feels so comfortable .

The hosts have thought of everything. I will definitely be booking to stay , again.

First visit to Whitby, loved the area, walked along Cleveland Way. Coastline is stunning, recommend a visit to Robin Hood bay and also North Yorkshire Moors, around Goathland, heartbeat location .

Lovely house, really well presented and with almost everything you could want for a long weekend or week

Location amazing although the wee hilly roads nearly killed me lol.
The house was amazing.. home from home. decorated beautiful with everything you needed was supplied.
warm friendly bed comfy we had a special trip to whitby
fabulous unexpected gift of tea coffee sugar milk cake and biscuits on arrival. this just made everyone smile so much and was truly grateful .. thank you ever so much Railmans Rest. Will absolutely book again

Nothing really everything was amazing.
Maybe a down stairs loo might be helpful when 6 stayed.
But in all fairness there was absolutely Nothing we didnt like about the home

HOST AND STAY
Was not happy with having to pay a non returnable waiver charge of £25
or £250 pounds deposit with a return of £240 giving £10 for administration.
This I found to be a "Blackmail" situation as when I telephoned Host and Stay..to question this extra charge .. Got told I "will not get the keys to the property unles I did 1 or the other." !!
I totally as have done for many years, pay a damage bond to be returned after a No damage Stay but this was a new way of collecting an extra £25 to a company we have already paid a fee to when booking.

This comment has absolutely nothing to do with Railmans Rest communication and our stay at their property

From the moment we walked through the door it felt homley. There was everything u could possibly want from logs for the fire, to kitchen foil..... such a great place I have recommended already to people and we are looking to book again. The location was great and we managed to park both cars close.

Wasn't anything to dislike

We really enjoyed our time, the location was great and the personal touches of milk, cake and biscuits on our arrival was most appreciated. Would definitely recommend and stay again, many thanks.

Fantastic location with a superbly presented house. It was just what we needed for a little get away for my family of 4 and grandparents. Parking wasn't an issue- it was Easter weekend and we still always managed to park within a few minutes walk of the house. House was spotless and linen clean and fresh. Will be looking to stay again.

A beautiful property, very comfortable. More than enough room for the four of us (2 adults and 19 and 17 year olds) and a dog. The property is 5 minute walk into Whitby so we didn’t need to drive anywhere. The kitchen is well stocked and the little touches such as milk, tea bags and chocolate biscuits were very welcome. The bedrooms are very spacious.

I cannot fault the house at all, except maybe an extra toilet but that’s just preference. If you’re coming and going a lot, that hill back up to the house is a killer on the 4th or 5th time! Kept us fit though!

Thanks for a great stay, was in a perfect location for us with 2 small children and a dog, short walk to harbour front, train station, etc. house was great with everything we needed. Thank you for having us!

It was so clean and everything you needed was there. even supplying cake biscuits, coffee tea.
The location was amazing, opposite the chippy and a couple of doors away from the pub, so easy to find and lovely and quiet with a 10 minute walk into the heart of Whitby.

There was nothing to dislike.

Great location, property had everything we needed. Could get parked either on the road or round the corner.

Had to pay a £25 damage waiver, which wasn't made very clear. I've never had to pay this before and we've booked lots of cottages over the years, it's clearly used as a stealth tax. Certainly won't be staying anywhere managed by Host and Stay in the future.

A great few days in Whitby staying at Railman’s Rest. Comfortable, warm and welcoming. Just lovely!

Great location for a stay in Whitby. The house was lovely and welcoming. The bedrooms were fantastic sizes and comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped. Thoroughly recommended. We were a group of 4 adults. There was plenty of space and 6 would have fitted easily.

Lovely house, exactly as per photo’s. Great location for walking in to Whitby. Good communication from the hosts management company.
Would definitely return.

Great cottage - all the bedrooms are a really decent size, with very comfortable beds. Lovely little front garden (fully fenced and secure - handy if you have a dog), plus a courtyard at the back. Well equipped kitchen, with plenty of plates, mugs, glasses etc. Although the house was very cold when we arrived, it was lovely and warm once we had sorted out the heating and lit the log burner. The two teenagers loved the TVs in the bedrooms! A short walk into the town centre (a bit of a climb back if you struggle with mobility).

excellent stay! gorgeous house in a very central location, we would definitely stay here again - highly recommend!

Had a great stay close to the Whitby coast, very clean, warm and cosy place. Highlights were the PlayStation, bed pillows, welcome cake, tea and milk just what we needed on arrival. Would love to stay again in the future.

Lovely house, very well-equipped in short walking distance of all of Whitby. Responsive hosts with local recommendations given.

We had an amazing stay, fantastic place to get away. Close enough to town to walk in, but also not in the thick of everything. The house is so lovely, the pictures don't do it justice - we wanted to live there! Good chippy across the road too.

Lovely house located a short walk from Whitby Harbour. House was clean and well equipped and was perfect for 6 people.

Beautifully presented, 5 minute walk into the centre, was able to park on the street.

Really lovely house and in a very nice residential area of Whitby.

What a fabulous find. House was perfect. Everything you needed and a lovely touch with the welcome pack.

Nothing

We would recommend this place to anyone going to Whitby, absolutely stunning house. Appointed with everything you could need and so close to everything.

Perfect place to stay in Whitby for a group or family. Recently renovated house with everything you need. 5 mins walk into Whitby. Highly recommend. Would book again if I were going to Whitby.

Spacious comfortable and clean.

Another toilet would have been good but we knew when we booked it only had one. So not a complaint just a thought.

The house was fantastic, spacious and clean

The seagulls waking us up at 5am each morning which isn't the properties fault but it did cause our 2 year old grandson to wake up ??

Great location nice place very well laid out. Our first time in Whitby and it didn't disappoint. Only 5 min walk to quayside and 10-15 to beach. Weather was great drinks were cold what more can I say. Would recommend.

This holiday cottage is amazing. The location is perfect just a short walk from whitby harbour. The house is immaculate and has everything that you need.

Good location, very close to the main part of town, those with mobility issues might have issues with the steep bank near the cottage though.

Lovely decor, lots of space, all essential amenities provided (plus a few modern extras!) and it was very clean which was great. Towels and bedding were of a very good standard. A welcome package with a couple of essential groceries and local delicacies was a really nice touch. The kids especially loved the twin room and the fact we were able to sign into Netflix etc on the TVs.

Overall we had a lovely stay, the property it taken care of and the owners certainly make an effort to keep it to a good standard. We would definitely recommend this property.

Minor gripe only with the front bedroom - the sash windows whilst very nice, and in keeping with the decor and age of the property, didn’t block out the noise of late night revellers.

Lovely house - everything catered for - perfect!

Can't fault it

very comfortable, well equipped

Lovely house in an ideal location, just 5-10 minutes from the Harbour. The house itself is ideal for families, has everything you need. Would highly recommend.

We had a fantastic week at Railman's Rest in Whitby. The house is a great property to stay and entertain, with great sized rooms and a lovely living/dining space! location is also very convenient for the town and tourist spots - all a short walk away!

Some thoughts from our week:
- it's a short walk into town, but it's steep. worth keeping in mind if you are not steady on your feet/use a walking aid.
- parking is available on the street and surrounding streets, though it was busy at the weekend when we arrived. we managed to park on the next street along and moved outside the house when we noticed a space later.
- there is a local pub, chip shop and newsagent all within a moment's walk. A very well stocked co-op is less than 10 minutes away - good for getting supplies.
- Whitby is generally pram friendly, though the street to the abbey is a no-go as it is steep! recommend a baby carrier for this one.

Raiman's Rest was well equipped, spotless throughout and a great location for exploring Whitby.

Thank you for a great stay. The house was lovely and we are now much fitter thanks to all the steps and hills in and around Whitby!

Great cottage/house.
Very easy to feel at home here, and plenty of room.
Bedrooms were great, bathroom spacious with powerful shower and separate bath.
When next in whitby is available will happily stay here again

There were 2 pieces missing from the jigsaw we tried to do, thats the extent of the things I didn't like, so pretty awesome really

We had a really lovely stay at Railman’s Rest.
The house is comfortable and has everything you need for a real home from home experience.
It’s close to town with a chip shop opposite and a friendly little pub next door. We also managed to park close to the accommodation.
Whitby itself is lovely and we were able to easily explore further afield.

The cottage was lovely and well presented. It was well equipped and very comfortable.

Some blinds on the Velux windows would be useful.

Lovely cottage. Clean well equipped and great location

Everything! Highly recommended.

Lovely clean, well equipped cottage, close to town, though quiet location. Managed to park close by and didn't use the car again until hometime. Lots to see and do in Whitby. We were lucky to have fab weather and enjoyed a pint outside at the local a few doors along. Would definitely go back to Railman's Rest a brilliant find.

Lovely property, well furnished and with comfortable beds and an excellent kitchen! Only a few minutes walk into the town centre, and with a pub and a fish and chip shop within a literal stone's throw. My children appreciated the presence of a games console in their room!

A lovely place to stay, really enjoyed our break. The house is great and has everything you need. Only slightly negative thing I could say is that if you're not good on your feet the walk into the town is a bit steep in places.

clean, very secure, aesthetically pleasing, well equipped, good size for our needs

could do with helix blinds at the windows, struggled to fit 6 adults comfortable in the lounge without using a dining chair

beautifully decorated!

Railmans Rest was certainly the best home in Whitby we have stayed in. Highly recommended. Location is great, short stroll down to the harbour. The house has everything you need and sofa, beds, extremely comfortable. We took our dog and in just 7 walking from the house you can be on the Cinder track,a lovely walk.

loved railmans rest, was an absolute gem in a perfect location, would love to come back again in the future!

Lovely home in a great location in Whitby. A perfect base for exploring the Yorkshire coastline and Moors

Great property in an excellent quiet location for walking access to the town centre. The owners have spared no expense in creating a "home from home" of notable character. All the small details to make guests feel welcome were much appreciated and, in summary, I would highly recommend Railmans Rest and the Stay team.

Lovely property, family friendly had everything we needed! Great stay.

The decor, the cleanliness, the location. It was so good we want to book again.

Nothing to dislike. The property was first class.

Railmans Rest is a lovely terraced house just above Whitby Harbour, and a 5 minute walk down to the centre. The house is clean, comfortable and equipped with everything you're likely to need. The shower is really hot and powerful and there's even a lovely bath if you're aching after lots of long walks. Really appreciated it being dog-friendly, and we made sure we left the house clean and 'odour-free'.

It was fine for us, but if there are 6 in your party you may find it a bit of a tight squeeze on the sofas in the lounge if you all want to sit down at the same time. A second toilet would would be really helpful for larger groups. There was no dedicated parking, but we always managed to find a space right outside in the street and there's plenty of places nearby.

Lovely property maintained to a high standard - close to Whitby centre. Thank you for your hospitality.
