Property Details

The Space
Spread out over three floors, Seashell Cottage is quirky and cosy. You’re welcomed into the open plan kitchen, living and dining area. With a traditional seaside cottage feel, the space is homely and snug. Make the most of your self-catering stay in Whitby by preparing meals in the kitchen and enjoy them at the dining table or outside alfresco style on the bench.

Head upstairs and you’ll find the bedroom on the first floor. Boasting a comfy king size bed and premium bed linens, you’ll have a blissful night’s sleep here. Nods to Whitby’s maritime history are added with a boat oar displayed over the fireplace and artwork of donkeys on the beach.

The bathroom is located on the floor above. With sloped ceilings and a skylight window, this is the perfect spot to enjoy a long soak in the bath. The space is complete with an overhead shower, vanity unit with basin and a WC.

When visiting Seashell Cottage you can enjoy with all the family including your canine pals.

Host & Stay are committed to our owners that their homes are protected during guest bookings. For this reason, we require all our guests to transfer a Damage Deposit (refundable, subject to an administration charge) or, to purchase an Accidental Damage Waiver which will cover you for up to £500.00 of accidental damage during your stay.

Seashell Cottage is located a short walk from the iconic Flowergate – one of the oldest and most historic streets in Whitby. You’ll find cosy cafes, restaurants and shops lining the street, so the apartment is ideally located.

The Blue Flag West Cliff beach and promenade is just a short 5-minute walk from the property. On Pier Road, you’ll find fun arcades and plenty of fish restaurants where you can sample the catch of the day.

The other side of Whitby is full of narrow, medieval streets dotted with boutiques and pubs. Climb the famous 199 steps up to the Church of Saint Mary. You can also discover the renowned ruined Whitby Abbey, which was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s gothic novel ‘Dracula’.

Step outside of Whitby and you’ll uncover a haven of woodland and moorland. Whitby forms part of the North York Moors National Park so it’s the perfect place for long walks.

Getting Around
Seashell Cottage is located in the centre of Whitby so the town can easily be explored on foot.

Whitby train station is just a short 5-minute walk away so villages and towns along the North Yorkshire coast can easily be reached via rail. There’s also a taxi rank in close proximity to the train station.

There are plenty of bus routes throughout Whitby. Hop on the X4 and you can visit beautiful coastal villages like Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Staithes. The X93 travels along the coast to Scarborough. The 95 route features plenty of quaint villages, such as Grosmont and Lealholm.

Beautiful little cottage. Heather and Ian were brilliant hosts who were super responsive and helpful when we needed to move due to a leak. They swapped us straight away to another beautiful home just 5 mins away.
Glad they are not continuing to work with Host and Stay who I think are a con and tried to get us to pay a non refundable damage waiver and deposit even when Airbnb support told us not to as insurance is provided by them. They refused to give us check in details without doing this even though we had told them airbnb had advised us not to.
Would advise all bookings to ask to check in and deal directly with the host to avoid this problem as they were brilliant.

Quiet location but within easy walking distance of everything. Very cosy, lovely touches, clean and beautiful.

I had to leave!

Lovely little cottage in a perfect location - just a few minutes walk from all the central, popular parts of Whitby and the beach. The cottage itself is well furnished, clean - and warm! Directions to the cottage and instructions on accessing the building and parking were very clear and easy to follow. The owners also provided useful local information in a number of different formats.
Excellent customer care from Iain, the owner, too. Will definitely consider renting one of the Vitty's cottages in the future.

Nice location

Very cosy little cottage for two.
Great location.
Good heating and WiFi
Much appreciated box of treats.
Very clean and comfortable.
Excellent flow of information from the hosts.

Despite having a precise location - it's still a little tricky to spot in the dark. The Elders Yard sign being high up behind a wrought iron gate sporting a Private sign.
This place is not for everyone, the steps in the yard really need a handrail and many will find the stairs to the bathroom difficult. Very impressive conversion though!

It was well presented and really cosy. Location was great

The decor and the furniture

Great location. Very cosy and comfortable and nice touches such as smart tv and coffee machine.

Not necessary a negative, but stairs are quite steep up to the bathroom so maybe just a wee note to make people aware in case of mobility issues!

They thought of everything

Location is perfect for access to the town but tucked away in a quiet street

No private parking but a parking zone card is available so no charges if you park correctly

The cottage is lovely

I couldn’t pay my deposit first and had to chase the office. At present I haven’t received my deposit money back yet after 2 weeks so will have to chase again
It is a huge inconvenience for me and three nights I stayed there were not worth the hustle.

Complicated council parking system

fabulous location, near to all amenities yet tucked away. The cottage was cozy and well equipped. Also we were able to take our dogs who are a part of our family.

couldn’t check in until 4pm and check wax 10am.

Location was great.

Had pretty much everything we needed. Cooking was tight in a small space but we managed. Poor loo rolls, a small point but one that needs addressing. Unfortunately I wouldn’t book again due to the very high price from host and stay for what’s like an insurance policy. £25 for 2 nights. I can insure both myself and my wife for a years travel in Europe.

Lovely little cottage in a sweet secluded little alley! Soooo quiet and cozy. The bed was comfortable and it was close to everything. I didn't have a car so parking wasn't needed but not sure how that works as the streets are very narrow.

It was all good!

Location very good

The cottage was lovely. Would not book with host and stay again the reason was after booked they required a twenty five pound waiver fee . Was told if this was not paid they would not send details . Paid fee but they did not send link to pay had to ring twice for them to download app. Said they would send details three days before arrival which they did not. Had to ring again two days later was then told if I did not pay fee holiday was cancelled told them I had paid said they would check and let me know. Ten minutes later received text to tell me if they did not receive waiver feee holiday would be cancelled by this time I was very upset and not very pleased rang again the guy I spoke to apologised for text said he would find out what had happened told him it had been paid two days earlier felt like they had conned me out of twenty five pound would never book with host and stay again it needs to be checked out they are ripping people of have booked with booking . Com many times not had a problem you need to check them out it is giving you a bad name. It made me quite stressed before I went but the cottage was lovely and would go there again it is giving owners of these cottages a bad name

Everything, the little cottage is beautifully decorated, warm and cosy and right in the middle of the Whitby, very handy for all shops and attractions. The lovely welcome pack was very much appreciated.

Absolutely nothing to complain about.
The only thing I would mention is maybe upgrade the TV as it's on a old digital box and channels are quite hard to find.

close to centre nice breakfast place on the street

could have had better tv

Excellant location only a short walk from town. Cottage was very tastefully decorated and confortable. Welcome box of biscuits, nibbles, and fizz was a pleasant surprise.

Steep stairs, especially to attic bathroom. OK if you're fit and not too tall!!
Also had trouble finding the yard - suggest in directions that it's opposite the Great Goth shop behind a metal gate signed "private"

Lovely little place, very central, gorg hamper box for arrival along with dog treats too. Thought this was a great touch.

Quite hard to find but hosts where on the end of the phone to help. The bathroom was on a different floor and stairs quite steep.

We loved staying at Seashell Cottage over new year. It was so cosy, warm and comfortable. The kitchen is well-equipped and the welcome hamper was full of thoughtful treats. The shower was excellent - great pressure! The location is perfect, right in the heart of Whitby but also tucked away in its own secluded courtyard - it was so quiet and peaceful. Would definitely recommend and plan to stay here again on future visits, thank you!

Exceptional cottage, fabulous location, great value for money. Very clean and comfortable with everything you could need during yr stay. Quaint, in keeping with the cottage name and area, easy to find, private area and very quiet. Welcome hamper was a lovely surprise and very unexpected.

Absolutely nothing, it was perfect.

Amazing place to stay
Totally relaxing

Great location. Secluded courtyard good for the dog.
Warm and cosy. Comfy bed and nice big bathroom. Welcoming touches (box of goodies, milk tea and coffee etc)

Nothing not to dislike. Ideal for a couple of nights. Living area a bit cramped for a longer stay.

I loved everything about the cottage it was in a peaceful area and close to everything you needed, shops, train station, attractions.
Very clean and comfortable and a lovely welcome package on arrival. I would definitely stay again and highly recommend.

Location is fantastic, stayed in whitby many times but this has been the best

Nothing

Lovely cottage in a brilliant location, would defiantly recommend!
Had to contact late on Friday night regards a leak in the bath and the response was very quick and the leak dealt with the very next morning.

A lovely cottage situated in a great location. Had lovely gifts left on arrival and even treats for the dog. An easy experience from start to finish and would 100% stay again and recommend to others. Thanks for a great stay

clean, everything you needed, cosy, perfect location, lovely welcome package for both humans and the dog, kept up to date about check in and check out.

bed slats were a bit dodgy but didn’t affect stay.

The location was great, right in centre but peaceful and tucked away. The property was soooo cute and cozy. The hosts answered lots of questions from me before my stay and we’re really helpful. The facilities in the property were excellent.

The tv didn’t work how the instructions said, and it said the radiators were all individually controlled but the one in the bedroom was turned off and that couldn’t be changed and it did smell a bit weird (wet dog) BUT this is just me trying to be as constructive as I can be - I would definitely rebook.

Lots of lovely touches throughout, very homely from the first step through the door. From the welcome basket to the decor we really loved Seashell Cottage. Central to everything we wanted for our short stay and plenty of places to eat and drink, with the convenience of a bolt hole to escape and rustle up a meal when we chose to stop in. Elders Yard is a quiet peaceful little courtyard.
Parking while finding a spot was a little challenging, the more you looked the more you found and the Permit was easy if you read the instructions provided.
It was really nice to have a visit from Ian the owner to check that all was well also.
We would definitely look to stop here again, thank you.

Really difficult to put a lot here, perhaps the property was a little difficult to find initially as the sign for Elders Yard is tucked away behind the decorative iron gate to the private yard.

Lovely cosy cottage, would definitely return. Many thanks

Great location, near to shops, restaurants, cafes, bars, beach.

Cheap single ply toilet roll! Spent ages in the rain looking for Elders Yard. Asked a chap in the shop that sold knitted souvenirs and he had never heard of it. Eventually found the yard, the sign is on the inside of the gunnel obscured by a gate.

Fabulous little apartment, spotlessly clean, perfect location.

Easy to find, very quiet, lovely little extras, check information excellent.

No smart TV or ability to charge devices in living area. No area to get ready in bedroom, plug points next to bed can only be used standing up in front of mirror. Picnic bag oddly located in what was presumed to be bathroom storage cupboard, didnt find it till final sweep upon checkout.
Lots of dents and flaking paint where people have obviously bumped their heads going into bathroom.

Quiet, good location, the gifts on arrival, easy parking and once parked I didn't need to use my car until I left.

Only a mix up but the wi-fi code provided was incorrect but I sorted it by looking at the router, all sorted now.

The stairs headroom is low - I had to croutch otherwise I would, and did, hit my head on the ceiling.

great location
lovely clean and comfortable

Fab stay in a beautiful cottage.

We had such a lovely stay at Seashell cottage, the cottage was spotless, the decor was beautiful and the amenities were perfect. The location of the cottage was wonderful and right by the center and perfect walking distance to the beach. All the neighbours were super friendly.

There was nothing we didn't like, everything was well thought out.

Beautiful cottage
Super clean
Everything there if needed

Home from home - lovely welcome pack. good location and all the little extras

Great location. Wonderful cottage. Had a great short break. Definitely recommend.

Nothing

location was ideal, central to all amenities etc

size of property

Lovely cottage very cosy in a great location just loved everything about it the bathroom was nice the dining kitchen had everything you needed even a microwave, was tastefully furnished to the beach theme I would stay here again x

Nothing

lovely cosy place - ideal location - great place for a quiet getaway

Beautiful, cosy and clean cottage. Close to everything yet private that you feel mikes away. The welcome hamper was a lovely touch and much appreciated alongside the milk in the fridge. It’s just the small things that count and this place and the hosts more than that. Won’t think twice about returning or trying out the other properties the Vittys own as the standard is of high quality.

The location was great. The property was very clean.

It was a little difficult to find.

Great location. Nicely gated for people with dogs. The lounge was really cosy, not small, very pleasant and homely. Amenities were spot on. Very appreciative of the welcoming gifts. Not got a bad thing to say. 100% would stay again. Thank you very much for letting us stay in your gaff.

It was lovely and very cosy. Perfect location. Easy check-in & out. Clean and tidy.

Lovely little cottage in a great location in Whitby. Please note although listed as dog friendly dogs are only allowed on the ground floor of the property which is very small, we weren't aware of this until a week before our stay as it is not mentioned anywhere in the information on air BnB. The cottage has everything you need, lots of nice extra touches too. Lush coffee across the road is brilliant for breakfast. We had a really enjoyable stay.

Lovely place, nicely decorated in good location (a bit up hill, but this is Whitby!). Excellent welcome pack and very cosy. Stairs are steep but manageable. Recommend Rusty Shears a couple of doors down for breakfast/brunch and Star Inn the Harbour for dinner. Great for a weekend away.

This property is over three floors and is worth noting the stairs are extremely steep to the bedroom and bathroom

clean , cozy , comfortable & Ian was lovley , came for my birthday & brought out spaniel Ollie who loved his treats left too … nice touch

N/A

A charming cottage in a quiet location but very convenient for all facilities in Whitby
The cottage is cosy and beautifully decorated providing everything you need and more - the gift box for people and dogs being an extra special touch- would definitely recommend to family and friends

Excellent place to stay . Would definitely recommend this place .

Brilliantly private little cottage in a great location to explore Whitby. The hosts were very clear with instructions and left us to it, as well as providing a very generous hamper of goodies to welcome us.

Lovely stay - enjoyed the welcome hamper which was a lovely touch ! Very central

excellent location

nothing

Excellent stay at Seashell cottage. Very central and close to all of Whitby’s cafes and restaurants. Clean and cosy house and dog friendly. Parking not available right outside, but only 5 min walk away. Would definitely go back.

The Seashell Cottage is ideally located in the heart of Whitby - although it has its own entrance/courtyard for privacy. The property itself is beautiful, with a comfy bed and spacious bathroom, it has everything you need for a short stay by the seaside. We particularly appreciated the personal touches, such as the little snack hamper and toiletries in the bathroom. Furthermore, before our arrival, communication was spot on and check-in was streamlined and simple.

This is the perfect place for a seaside stay and I will definitely be back here in the future!

Highly recommended for a romantic getaway.

Thank you! Lovely cosy cottage, just as expected. Perfect location in the heart of Whitby. Nice welcome hamper. Would stay again.

Lovely cottage welcome box and quiet location in busy Whitby

The lovely welcome pack

Very nice property.
We found all information was accurate and would recommend this property for a stay in Whitby or touring the North Yorkshire coast.

A brilliant location, and had everything we need for a short break away. We'll hopefully be back.

Beautiful little cottage in the perfect location to explore Whitby. Everything you need for a lovely break away. Super stylishly decorated, very modern and clean with some really thoughtful touches. Can’t recommend enough.

Lovely little house, location is amazing. Check in was so organised and the house was clean and exactly as expected
