Property Details

The Space
Spread across three floors, Tenby Cottage has a living room, open plan kitchen and dining area, three bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms. Beautifully decorated, there is a charming and homely feel which flows throughout the cottage.

Head to the living room and you’ll find a truly cosy space. With a log burning fire, flat screen TV and two sofas, this is the ideal spot to snuggle up with your loved ones and enjoy a night in front of the box. In keeping with the style of the cottage, this room has a light colour scheme with washes of baby blue and teal.

The open plan kitchen and dining area is a mix of modern and traditional. The kitchen boasts sleek white, high shine cabinets and black speckled worktops. Ideal for self-catering stays, it is fully equipped with everything you should need from an oven and hob to a kettle and toaster. Bringing in the traditional feel is the wooden dining table and woven chairs. Perfectly placed, you can socialise, entertain and enjoy meals in this room.

There is a WC located on the ground floor. Take the stairs up to the first floor and you’ll find two bedrooms and the family bathroom.

The master bedroom features a comfy double bed with crisp white linens and blue soft furnishings. Working well in the space, these colours complement the pale mint coloured walls to create a tranquil atmosphere. Unique ‘knot’ style bedside lamps nod to Whitby’s maritime history and there is ample storage space for all of your belongings in the large wardrobe.

You’ll find twin single beds and a country cottage look in the second bedroom. Checked blankets, pale walls and charming accessories help to create a cosy feel.

The family bathroom features a bath with an overhead shower, dark brown tiles and a basin. The WC is located in a separate room off the hallway.

Head upstairs to the top floor and you’ll find the third bedroom. With sloping ceilings and skylight windows, the attic room is warm and homey. Ideal for solo members of your party or younger ones, it has twin single beds.

Tenby Cottage has a lovely enclosed outdoor area suitable for enjoying the fresh sea air and al-fresco dining.

Neighborhood
Set on the West side of Whitby, Tenby Cottage House is just a short 10-minute walk into the centre of town. Head to Pier Road and you’ll find cosy pubs, fun arcades and plenty of fish restaurants. Continue along the lively road until you reach the beautiful, blue flag West Cliff Beach which is lined with idyllic beach huts. At the other end of Pier Road, you’ll notice the swing bridge which sits over the River Esk.

Over the bridge, you’ll find yourself on the East bank which is full of narrow medieval streets dotted with boutiques, pubs and even more fish restaurants. Climb the famous 199 steps up to the Church of Saint Mary. You can also discover the renowned ruined Whitby Abbey, which was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s gothic novel ‘Dracula’.

Step outside of Whitby and you’ll uncover a haven of woodland and moorland. Whitby forms part of the North York Moors National Park so it’s the perfect place for long walks.

Getting Around
Whitby train station is just a short 5-minute walk away so villages and towns along the North Yorkshire coast can easily be reached via rail. There’s also a taxi rank in close proximity to the train station.

There are plenty of bus routes throughout Whitby. Hop on the X4 and you can visit beautiful coastal villages like Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Staithes. The X93 travels along the coast to Scarborough. The 95 route features plenty of quaint villages, such as Grosmont and Lealholm.

It looks nice in the pictures.

The property was damp and uncomfortable. The fridge was in a separate room to the kitchen which is very annoying and there is no dishwasher.

Absolutely gorgeous property 5 minutes walk from the centre of Whitby. Had all you could need and extremely clean and comfortable. Less than a minute to Botham's bakery and a little further to Silver Street fish and chip shop, both of which are excellent. Loved it.

We had a really great stay in Whitby. Tenby cottage was in a great location. It was easy to walk everywhere, even with small children, but tucked away so very quiet at night.
The accommodation was comfy and as described and we enjoyed the games and puzzles.
As others have mentioned the access to the parking is very tight but given how limited parking is in town, it was still great to have.
We’d definitely stay again!

Great location. Very central but very quiet which was a huge bonus.
Loved the patio area to sit for coffee on a sunny day.

Lack of a dishwasher.
Fridge freezer was in a different part of the house, which was quite frustrating. Every time you made a cup of tea or cooked you had to leave the room to get milk etc from the fridge. Not sure why the host has done this as there was room in the kitchen. Would make a big difference.

The interior design and the beds

The check out inspection wasn't done on the day and they withheld 250 deposit for more than 7 days. They promised they will do the check out inspection in less than 24 hours, but when I raised this they just offered me a generic reply that they will look into it and no answer after.
Who gives you the right to keep someone's money and just take your time with your duties without any care for your guest?
As well as the fact that if people with kids can't check in before 4 pm even if they travel from far away. I raised this long ago and nothing was put in place till I insisted on the day in numerous occasions and barely got in at 2:30

Excellent location to walk to a variety of shops, restaurants and the harbour and the beach. The kitchen was well equipped and had a nice dining table as well as a variety of games. The garden was lovely! The internet was very reliable and the living room was very comfortable with lots of seating.

The narrow laneway leading to the parking space was a bit of challenge.

Good location near shops n cafes n takeaway just down the road

Once it got dark I had to ring Booking.com as I couldn’t find the location. It was a nightmare as I have a big car to get to the property through a tiny arch way and I could t hardly get the car out of the street. The sat nav took us to the wrong side of the property so if it was any darker I wouldn’t of found it to be fair. I had kids in the car and had to ring Booking.com around 3 times to try n direct me to property through the back street that was so small. Could do with a sign I think on the back street with a name to direct to house.

The parking.

There was a bath but you couldn't fill it you could only have a shower with a broken head that you had to prop up to have a shower, there were no toilet rolls and no towel in the downstairs toilet, there were cobwebs on the hallway skylight and dusty light shades,There were clothes left in the draws in the twin bedroom.

Great weekend stay in the heart of Whitby. The cottage is perfectly placed in the centre but in a peaceful location. The house was in lovely condition with loads of kitchen equipment for self-catering. Everything was clean and tidy. Would definitely return.

A beautiful house in Whitby that looks exactly like the photos (as sometimes they don’t!). It is perfect for 6 people and big enough that you’re not stepping on each other’s toes. There is space to relax and socialise. The bedrooms are beautifully decorated and very comfortable to sleep. It is a quick walk to the centre and surrounded by restaurants and cafes so there are lots of choices, however not so close that it is noisy on an evening. Overall a great stay, and I would definitely book again!

Our experience at Tenby Cottage was excellent. The Cottage is conveniently located near restaurants and shops in Whitby, yet it is private and quiet. The Cottage was clean, cheerfully and tastefully decorated, and appointed with all the amenities we could want. We would happily return to Tenby Cottage and hope to do so.

What a brilliant cottage. All that you could want - great location, clean, stylish, quirky, spacious & all the essentials provided. Added bonuses - parking, outside spaces & friendly owners. The best accommodation we have stayed in anywhere.

The house is a lot closer to the harbour etc than you might initially think due to the various cut-throughs, eg the Magpie Cafe is only a 5 minute walk if you turn left instead of right, which feels counter-intuitive. Accessing the house in a car is a little challenging at first but it’s great to be able to park on the drive, rather than having to try to find a space every day, and the seating in the small rear garden is a real bonus. The property is comfortable and well furnished, the only minor group that there was no welcome pack, barring a pint of milk, tea & coffee. But we were very pleased overall.

We stayed here for the fourth time. It is and must be the hidden gem of Whitby. The owners are the most accommodating people I have ever met. I can honestly say if you are looking at Whitby, this is the place to stay. Can see how it won an award (best on Yorkshire Coast). That says it all.just a brilliant holiday every time we stay.

Tenby cottage was a lovely place to stay for a couple of nights during our boys’ half term break. Spacious, tasteful and clean inside and the location is perfect for exploring all that Whitby has to offer. A definite bonus having a parking space too (although a test for reversing skills with a bike rack on the back!). Would definitely recommend.

Great stay. Lovely well situated place and very cozy. Better if you have a small car as the entrance street is very narrow.

A great little cottage, tucked away off a side street, perfectly situated to walk to the beach or up to the abbey. We stayed here for two nights with our two children (7yrs and 20mths) and it worked perfectly for us.
