The Normanby

The apartment was great. It was clean and modern and everything you need. It is only a short walk away from the centre of Whitby and is near some charming pubs and restaurants. I would have preferred some better communication on how to check in however, I only got confirmation on how to check in at 3.30pm and I had already set off by then so was very stressed until I managed to check my phone in Whitby. The apartment was also very cold when we got there about 12c (the thermostat is easy to work though), nether the less minor things and we throughly enjoyed our stay! 10/10 will definitely stay again!

I liked that it was a whole apartment the parking, no spaces available outside the property. I didn't realise it was dog friendly and had a pet smell

Location fine. But cleanliness an issue. Would describe it as superficially clean, as a few 'hidden' areas were dusty or worse. For example top of sash windows. They had what seemed to be black mould on

Beautiful apartment Dog hair on sofa and living room carpet. I suffer from an allergy to dog hair and I struggled with this issue. We only stayed one night as I couldn't cope with another night. I have made a formal complaint to Host and Stay.

Check in ,parking Heating in bedroom didn't work ,frying pan is of poor quality as of knifes and forks no Masher,but apart from that we managed to make a Xmas Dinner?

Location great, central to the ameneties of Whitby. Additional Payment for the cleaning, the blinds in the bedroom were thick with dust which affected my allergy. The TV stand the same and black mould on the kitchen window.

Close to town & parking was good The foyer smelt terribly of old cat food or off fish it was disgusting They sent me a request to pay £20 property insurance before I checked in even on top of booking fee I thought that was ridiculous it’s not refundable very average apartment

Central position. Clean and comfortable. We believe we were misled re the parking. Expected a permit scratchcard that would give us free parking in certain areas. According to the apartment guide it would be left for us. It wasn't, so we paid over £40 for parking.

Parking was a problem. As an elderly couple we booked this apartment on the understanding we would get a parking permit to take the worry from us. On arrival I had to phone the number provided and were told there was no such permit for this. Booking.com eventually text me apologising that it wrongly advertised that a permit would be available As it was parking was available a few minutes away but cost me another £25 on top of my break. Just be aware to confirm parking is available if needed. It put a damper on the first day

The apartment was beautiful and clean as well as being well presented. Super comfy bed , brilliant shower ( although did struggle a bit as it was over the bath) everything you needed was in the apartment even down to washing up liquid and dish cloths. Good job I thought to bring a tea towel as they were not provided. Small supply of tea sugar and milk was a nice touch. Would definitely stay again. Slight issue with parking permit but was sorted out immediately. Only downside was the sneaky admin fee on your damage deposit ?

Good walking distance from the shops, bars and restaurants. Comfortable bed. Tea, coffee & milk sachets provided. The free scratch card parking card wasn't left and when queried it I was told to send a copy of my car parking receipt plus a copy of their advert stating and they would reimburse me, however, its now been 4 days since sending everything asked for and there's no sight or sound of it. I paid more as it included free parking. I won't use Host & Stay again. I also found it dirty, especially the bathroom which was thilthy with dirty, grimy tiles, grout, shower hose, taps etc. Plus there were bags of rubbish outside the bedroom window. Some was builders materials, sand etc. But there was also black bin liners with who knows what in them. I was so concerned that I didn't like opening the window in case smells or bugs got in.

Nothing it doesn’t exist as a hotel

Clean, spacious and had everything we needed No parking disc was left for us to use and we waited over 1 hr and made 3 phone calls but still no disc was presented. Poor start to hour stay which made me angry and flustered which could have been avoided.

Quiet. Fairly convenient for Whitby train etc. Washing machine! No drier unfortunately. Very sparse shampoo/soap etc given we were there for 9 days and paid for this accommodation several months in advance. I think a ‘damage payment’ or whatever the euphemism is (£25) on top of the payment is a bit rich.

The apartment was spotless with enough tea / coffee and milk provided to have that all important first cuppa on arrival. Kitchen equipment was all provided along with tea towel, dish cloth, washing up liquid and sponges - excellent. Parking permits provided, quiet location close to main attractions. That we couldn't stay longer.

The property was fine and clean The property management company Host and Stay provided a terrible service. 1. They added a £30 non refundable charge for insurance after we paid the booking.com final price. They refused to give us access to the property until we paid this money. 2. The property promised and included car park permits which were not provided so we had to pay additional on street parking when we arrived. 3. Host and Stay promised to refund the parking charges, but despite chasing them 4 times they still have not refunded our money

The location was very good, short walk to town. Quiet neighbourhood. Would go there again. The parking is an issue. We had to drive several times around the neighbourhood to find a parking. And then it was 2 blocks away. Note to the owner: The freezer need to be defrosted. Massive ice build up.

Nicely presented property and comfortable

The property is in a great location for Whitby and the surrounding areas, and the apartment looks just as it does online. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils etc. and the blankets for any pets was a nice touch as well. Difficult to find - Helpful info from a local is that streets in Whitby all have two names, which would have been good to know beforehand. Maps takes you round to the back of the property so it's not particularly clear - and not somewhere I would want to try and navigate for the first time at night.A better point to anchor the location would be the Masonic Lodge directly opposite in my opinion. Bed was comfy but there were a few marks on the sheets which made me question if they had been washed beforehand - otherwise everything else was spotless. I had quite a few issues getting the parking scratchcard sorted which was frustrating as it was one of the main reasons I booked this property. I flagged as soon as I arrived that the scratchcard wasn't in the flat and it took a couple of days to get sorted - so in the meantime I had to repeatedly come back and move the car (this would have been very difficult for anyone with a child) while the hosts stopped responding to my messages. Once it finally got dropped off it was fine, but put a dampener on the first couple of days - and the lack of communication was frustrating (as well as having to pay for parking while this got sorted)

The flat was spacious, beautifully decorated, with a fully equipped kitchen. The road outside was quiet, and the bedroom was exceptionally quiet. Really, really comfortable bed. I would have preferred the obligatory £25 deposit to have been flagged up in advance of booking, or added onto the room cost.

Location was good, apartment was very clean and bed was very comfortable. Also, the access was very simple as was leaving. Everything was good for the price. The stairwell did have a slight smell but that didn't distract from the enjoyment. 2 day parking was good, but can't really be used for day 1 as check in is 4pm,

I think the apartment was lovely, the hosts were very accommodating, and I had a great time staying at this property.

Very clean, comfortable and had all the facilities. Great location in West Cliff. Note: West Cliff Car Park is free after 6pm, and has EV charging stations Not a criticism. Just a note to help find the property. Normanby Terrace is on the north side of John Street (i.e. its the same street) not as Google points you to, the back alley.

Really quiet. Well equipped. Good location within an easy walk of the town and the harbour. Very quiet. Bedroom was at the back away from the street. Good facilities. Easy to get in and check out. Parking voucher given. Nice shops and bars close by. It was quiet when we were there so parking wasn't an issue but I suspect at a busier time of year it could be a problem.

Great location provided good access to the town and seafront, close to everything. Parking on the street made transferring our luggage to and from the car easy. The apartment was modern and spotlessly clean, with a very comfortable sofa and bed, we slept very well. Nice touches were the dog blankets, umbrellas we thankfully did not need and the tea, coffee and milk left for us was very much appreciated.

We are usually sent details of key boxes before our arrival time but had to ring twice to get code which took forever. Eventually got in after ten minutes stood on doorstep freezing.

Nothing I paid in full but did not gain entry as I was expected to give ALL my personal information including ID to a 3rd party to get damage waiver and the ALL reviews of this 3rd party company were dreadful. I should only have needed to provide a credit card, which I was happy to do. They would not give me any other option to pay a damage waiver. Appears to be a data gathering company who use your personal information for other purposes (read the small print). I will never book with Host and Stay again as in my opinion they are just information thieves and in some way connected to Superhog (3rd party) suggested insurance company, which they are not.

Stayed before lovely place

The location is great It was quite dirty, carpet had pee stains everywhere. I understand it’s dog friendly but that isn’t good enough. There was fairy liquid spilled all inside the kitchen cupboard, not sure how it was missed by the cleaner. Bathroom also wasn’t very clean. Felt like I was staying in a student house.

Brilliant few days at the apartment and couldn't be better if you tried.. Nothing not to like..10/10

The property was in a great location and great communication with us throughout. We found the accommodation very clean and decorated to a very high standard. Would definitely recommend only wished we had booked for a longer stay. There is nothing I didn’t like.

Lovely little property. We got the one with the blue sofa on the first floor. The oven wasn’t the cleanest but nothing some foil didn’t solve. Couple of areas looked a little shabby but overall a lovely place.

Well positioned, immaculately clean, tastefully decorated throughout, very comfortable and well designed. The door closed on us due to the lock not working properly, we called the Host & Stay office twice on the third call they said that unfortunately because they didn’t have spare keys for the property the earliest a locksmith could get which we would have to pay for would be 5+ hours after my initial call . They never updated us once very poor service. Property lovely, lack of spare keys vey bad management , wouldn’t go with Host & Stay again!

The property was in a good location, clean and tidy and had everything in that was needed for our stay There wasn’t much that we didn’t like the only small thing was that when the people upstairs used the bathroom’s early morning the noise woke us up but other than that there was absolutely nothing that we didn’t like

We never had any hand towels in bathroom and there was no bath mat which made the floor a bit slippery and only one small rail for hanging clothes.

Great location tucked away and quiet but 2 minute walk to harbour front. Clean, comfy bed basic kitchen and bathroom - ideal for long weekend. Damage waiver/deposit mentioned post booking misleading. No good if you don’t like hills and stairs

Beautiful apartment in a quiet street but walking distance to beach, foreshore and town. There are lots of coffee shops nearby as well. Very comfortable bed and spacious rooms. Relaxing after the crowds in Whitby. The only issue is parking ( not the fault of the accommodation ). Despite the parking permit, it was very tricky to get a park. It was the Whitby folk week, so parking was at a premium, but we managed to find something within a 10 minute walk, but it took around half an hour one day!!! Just so people are aware.

Location was great, apartment was very clean and modern and had all essentials needed too enjoy ourselves. The £250 deposit for damage waiver is too expensive and the extra £10 charge for taking the damage waiver also cheeky

location was great, whole apartment is newly redecorated so its new and fresh, comfy beds, loved that we found Whitby guidebook inside, very clean and tidy, lovely interior design, got pdf guide of best restaurants and caffes around Whitby that was super helpful no hand soap or washing up liquid! for the price you pay it has to be included!! carpets everywhere so when you get to the property from outside if your shoes are full of mud - good luck washing the carpet on our holidays! tricky with parking, hard to find where to park, EXESSIVE emails from hosts.. I got over 6+ emails about confirming my stay and that they are looking forward to hosting us, I am sure one is enough!

Brilliant location in west cliff close to the beaches and skinner street at the top end of Whitby. Quick walk into town. Lovely little seated area at the front of the property.

it was clean, comfortable and I a great location. The property was warm, shower powerful & hot. Next door neighbours (#4) were noisy with cm shouty children. No recycling facilities, even though they were listed on the housing pack, we used someone else's recycling bin.

The flat itself is very nice. Clean, smart, plenty of room. Location is great too. Before we even set off, was told that we either had to pay £250 deposit (on top of which they charged you £10 to do the transfer aswell) or spend £25 on a waiver. I received a lot of emails telling me to do this. Never before have I had to do this. Check in is very late, as we wanted to make the most of our weekend. We were there early. I asked if we could just nip in to get the parking permit so I didn't have to mess about with parking and told no. Was also unimpressed by the fact they didn't supply milk but did have all other tea / coffee supplies. Was then also sent 4 messages on the Saturday to tell me what time i had to leave the next day! Not very relaxing and very annoying. The apartment is lovely, but the company in charge not so good. There's a reason why so many of the 'Host and Stay' run apartments are still available, it's the people who run them. The whole charge thing means I'd never book with them again.

excellent location don’t a dislike but parking was tricky

Had a great stay with our golden retriever! We would definitely book again. Perfect location with a short walk to the beach and town centre. The flat was decorated to a very good standard. It was clean and check-in was easy with a key box at the entrance. A parking permit is provided for you to use on the streets around the property. Can be a little busy at times and you may need to park a bit further away but isn’t too much hassle. All info to the flat is provided through a handy portal. The link is sent by text the day before the stay. Definitely recommend!

Property in a good location. Flat was very comfortable. Bed very comfy. Nice touch that there was milk tea and coffee. The key safe was not marked with the flat no. Caused a bit of stress when arriving. The walk way up to the front door is not very tidy. Probably owned by someone else. Parking a nightmare.

The location is excellent. Just a couple of streets away from the main shopping street, lots of nice bars and cafes about. The apartment was large and spacious, lovely big windows. the mattress is a little lumpy and the bed sofa was not comfy for watching tv/ reading etc. minor details but notable.

Good place in a central location. The living area is spacious and we found it ideal with a little baby.

Lovely apartment. Modern furnishings. Very clean. The mattress was a disappointment considering how lovely the rest of the flat is. Too soft. Felt like something you'd find in student accommodation! Made my back hurt as not supportive enough.

The property is the perfect location, spacious & nice kitchen .. good shower, separate bedroom The bed .. most uncomfortable bed ever The mattress was broken - I complained to the host but nothing was done on a 3 night stay We hardly slept for 3 nights - I ended up on the sofa at 4am but couldn’t sleep. It was a special birthday weekend so we were very disappointed & that the host & stay local hosts did nothing! I took pictures & thought they may come around to check but nothing! It ruined our weekend

Bedroom was large with a comfy bed and shower was good. Free parking permits were a bonus and we were able to park in the street close to the apartment. There is also a pay and display carpark within a few minutes walk too. We would definitely stay there again. There wasn't anything we didn't like.

Lovely stay – but a cold shower! We had a lovely 2 night stay in Whitby. The location of the apartment is perfect, less than 10 mins walk into town on a lovely quiet street. The apartment provided a little carton of milk and coffee and tea which was a nice touch. Downsides – the shower was only cold. You’d expect for the price we paid to have a hot shower/this checked before we arrived. The view out the bedroom window is null, just looks onto a concrete wall. Other than that, a wonderful stay in a lovely clean apartment. Thank you.

The Normanby is a stylish and cosy flat, perfectly located a short walk from the harbour, beach and shops that make Whitby a lovely little get away. Check in was a doddle and we instantly felt at home in the flat. Would stay again.

A fantastic apartment in the heart of Whitby. I can’t fault this place as it was super modern, immaculately clean, full of amenities and only seconds from the beach. The check in process was easy and any questions throughout the stay were dealt with immediately. Will certainly be back!

I can recommend this property which is a few minutes walk from the centre of Whitby. There are plenty of pubs/bars and restaurants nearby. It is well appointed with everything you might need for a short stay. A nice touch was the pint of milk in the fridge which was very welcome. In winter months parking isn’t a problem but summer months might be an issue. We would definitely stay again.

We stayed for two nights, the flat was clean, stylish and spacious. It's very well located and you can walk to the beach, famous magpie cafe and abbey very easily. Check-in was simple and communication with the host was very good. We would recommend.

Very clean stylish spot - we have. 15month old and apart from some cupboard exploring it was very child proof!
