Location is in the centre of town and adjacent to the rail station

The living area is really small and would have been cramped if more than 2 guests. Also the stairs are steep and winding which made it difficult to manoeuvre cases etc. Had almost daily standard emails from host and go which were unnecessary.

Accessible from a quiet and private alley entrance. All clean and matching pictures. the shower was brilliant! Cosy living space

The cottage is charming and feels like you are staying in a bit of history of Whitby. The location is amazing, right in the heart of Whitby and close to the beaches and town.

Being asked to pay an extra £25 in case of breakages before accessing the property was annoying as these charges should be included in the price when booking.

Great location. Clean.
We enjoyed our stay !
In a busy part of town, good for going out but not so great for noise at night.

Stairs to first floor are a little steep but only to be expected in a cottage of age

We had a lovely stay in central Whitby this weekend.
The house was conveniently located near to shops and cafes.
It was perfect for a short break away- we took our dog with us and she loved it. Be careful if you are taking young children as the stairs are very steep.
All in all a great stay
Thank you

Almost everything

Was a bit dusty in places and downstairs window doesnt close properly so there was a draft and it was cold and the fire doesn't close properly either so burns way to fast apart from that lovely especially the bedrooms and shower overall good

The cottage and location are great and I can see beyond the dust and stained bedsheets. What i found annoying was being forced to pay a £25 insurance fee on top of the TOTAL which was described as for 'spills and small breakages'
on paying this I expected perfection. unfortunatley the TV didn't work, the bed sheets had black stains on and there were no wine glasses. not to mention dust and stains in all rooms.
the level of care is not as good from a company as an individual in my experience of Air bnb but the cottage did us well and we liked it.

The location was excellent

The cottage needs a little updating

Ideal location centre of town

No parking

The location is fantastic, the cottage is very quaint and well presented. It has everything you need. It’s nicely decorated and the bedrooms are really well presented and spacious. The property was clean and tidy when we arrived and had everything we needed for a stay.

I think there are a couple of things that could be improved with ease and would instantly change my ratings to a 10/10. The windows on the top floor were rather dirty, and easily rectified. Unfortunately when we arrived the shower door was broken on in the first floor bathroom and lent against the wall so couldn’t be used ( luckily a shower on the 2nd floor). I believe the sofas and mattresses are ready to be replaced as rather uncomfortable.

Absolutely filthy
Former reviews were accurate
All photos are from inside
I will never book with a host and stay again
Their customer service is appalling
I could go on .

Filth and dog hairs everywhere
Huge urine stains on mattresse
Cheap mattresse
2nd floor is the worst .
Disgusting

Lovely stay, great location, really enjoyed our stay.

The location was great, central for everything. The property was clean and had everything needed for the stay. Lovely cottage with log burner was perfect for a relaxing stay

Mattress was uncomfortable, could do with an upgrade.

Location was great, In the town centre

Bed mattresses both need changing.
Needs a general refurbishment. (Floors, walls, shower, toilets.
Upstairs toilet has a broken flusher.
Front door very drafty, blowing into the living room

Close to town

Some of the features didn’t work

DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE PHOTOGRAPHS - the advert looks great, but the accommodation is totally substandard. 1. The sofas are disgustingly dirty and very uncomfortable. 2. The mattresses are cheap and awful and extremely uncomfortable. 3. The WiFi does not work properly - so Netflix/Prime etc are inaccessible. 4. The stool by the dressing table has a peg hanging off and is unsafe. 5. Sections of the cottage have not been cleaned - at all. 6. The log burner comes with no implements to use it safely. 7 There are not enough glasses etc. 8. The showers are pathetic and mouldy. These aren’t the only issue but quite frankly I’m too tied from the lack of sleep I’ve had, to be bothered to continue. DO NOT BOOK THIS COTTAGE BEFORE FIRST CHECKING IF THESE ISSUES HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED.

The location & the size was perfect

The beds were very uncomfortable.
It wasn't really clean.
Taking £25 non refundable for damage when things were broken already.

Everything is spot on apart from the mattresses on the beds seriously need changing as you can feel every spring, also the 2 seat sofas are a ready for a change, wobbly legs and a bit uncomfortable

Both mattresses need changing as very uncomfortable, and the two seat sofas are a bit uncomfortable with wobbly legs

Overall we had an okay stay. The property was clean when we arrived although all of the cleaning equipment had been left cluttered behind the Christmas tree. The furniture needs updating, sofas and beds were not comfy and white units in the bedrooms were stained. The water in the bathrooms was instantly really hot and with no warning, and with no indication as to which side was hot and cold. The sewage drains in the street were flooded causing a really bad smell, otherwise the location would have been great. It also would have been nice to have an earlier check in time.

Will be booking again great location in Whitby

Location was good, parking 10 minutes walking

Parking difficult, log fire was dirty from last guest which was not surprising as no ash bucket or shovel and brush to clean it. As advised we brought our own logs as they are not provided, had to buy bags and shovel to clean fire out before we could use it. We cleaned it after we used it. Microwave dirty on arrival also. Over priced property and stairs are not child or elderly friendly or dogs. Had a pleasant stay overall but have stayed in Whitby before for cheaper and nicer accommodation. On top of price payed £25 breakage fee. We left it better than we found it.

The location was central although that became a hindrance as the weekend progressed.

The place was filthy upon arrival downstairs (which was tiny) the stairs and first floor bedroom was un useable due to the thick dust and dirt. Paint peeling off walls and vac, smelly mop bucket and brushes all in the living room adding to the stench and view. I had to vacuum all the floors and the stairs as well as clean inside cupboards and wash the floor. The sofas were filthy and need disposing of even the throw had seen better days but was better than the dirty broken sprung chairs. Had to buy an air freshener as the place smelt so bad. Hardly any cutlery and one wine glass which broke when I got it out of the dishwasher!! Internet was rubbish the whole stay and struggled to get even standard channels, defo no Sky as lead to believe. Couldn’t even get catch up Tv or link to own networks. The place was overpriced and Mia sold and needs cleaning, decorating and done new furnishings.

Terrible break away, the place was filthy on arrival, dirty carpets, paint peeling off walls and mucky, broken sofas. Kitchen cupboards unclean, hardly a cutlery and first floor bedroom unable to use as thick white dust on everting even lamps. All furniture worn, marked and needs replacing. Noise of close pubs became worse by Saturday night and the alley was filthyPlace definitely sold wrongly and over priced and I am requesting a refund.

Great location, in the centre of town very close to the train station and car parking

The property is very small and in a very poor state of repair, painting and decoration is poor throughout the property with very clear to see damp issues on the ground floor with peeling paintwork and a very damp smell when you enter the property. We intended to have breakfast each morning at the property but decided to eat out instead due to the size and condition of the ground floor. Furniture in the property is poor, damaged and marked throughout.
Although we had a great time, the booking was very disappointing

The location to all the things to do in Whitby was great and central

We’re do I start ,the entrance upon arrival there was a big pile of pigeon mess before you even enter the cottage and also fag ends and rubbish ,upon entering there we’re at least 4 bolts on the front door but only one worked ,the baseboard Infront of the fridge was missing ,a cleaning cupboard under the stairs was in full view ,the log burner (no logs supplied ) had not been cleaned out ,the door of burner didn’t close properly and no poker or brush etc ,upon going to get cutlery for meal we found only enough knife and folks for three guest when there were four of us ,paint all coming off on stairs like it had been mouldy ,stair carpet needed cleaning ,dirty marks on side tables and dressing tables also mould in showers , a lot of these points had been made over a year ago but had still not been sorted by host and stay ,and as you can expect we will not be staying in a host and stay cottage again ,and defiantly not this one

Quirky little cottage.

Not a very pet friendly place.
Ideal if you are in Whitby for the drinking as you are surrounded by pubs. Beds are very uncomfortable. Needs refreshing, nothing like the photos and descriptions on Do not stop here if you have any issues with stairs and carrying your bags up them.

Location

Very uncomfortable sofas and beds , need replacement poor quality
Decoration needs attention
Noise from bars at night

Location

Cleanliness and condition of property. Did not stay.

Lovely cozy little house, great location. Perfect base for a family stay and much more enjoyable than a hotel.

A couple of fixtures and fittings like the shower doors could do with updating but these are very small details

cleaning not done properly hairs on bedding and in bathroom bedroom stool broken not very clean paint on walls dirty no hand rail on stairs it was difficult to walk up and down them

Lovely comfy beds. We slept really well. Location couldn't have been better for us. This cottage was ideal for us. Hope to come again.

Location in town centre

Beds and how clean the house was

Nice stay, cottage scrupulously clean, small but comfortable - exactly as advertised.

Compact and close to town , very easy to return to cottage in the day if needed

Stairs quite steep but manageable if steady

Very cute little cottage in the heart of Whitby, all you need to make your stay comfortable. We found it a good base for Whitby itself and venturing around, the parking ticket was really useful and helpful too.
Great communication from the hosts, all in all I’d recommend it.

The location was convenient and it looked nice on the pictures.

The 25 quid damage deposit, honestly the place is ready for a refurb and nothing like the pictures, once we actually found the cottage as the directions were awful.we discovered not only is it nothing like the pictures but it's right next to a night club that plays music until 2am.. ,it certainly wasn't clean with cobwebs in multiple places ,mould in both showers, and very dusty. We also found a dummy just under the bed when we dropped something and it rolled under there, aswell as a tablet of the medicinal variety..not ideal if you go with dogs or children. The beds were awful almost like they were made out of old slinky's,as previous reviews have stated,as were the sofas.the walls downstairs have had mould wiped off near the stairs but you can still see the spores coming through, downstairs under the stairs is exposed and full of boxes and cleaning products,I'm not sure why as they clearly weren't used. There is also a second door downstairs which would have helped to keep the noise out but it is currently hanging off its hinges and can't be shut, the main entrance door the top left panel has been kicked in and repaired very badly, certainly wouldn't regard the property as secure. The plinth near the fridge needs re fitting ,the floor downstairs was sticky, the TV unit is peeling, the middle bedroom carpet was stained as is the stairs carpet. Also the majority of the internal doors that are on their hinges are difficult to shut,if possible at all.. the middle bathroom cabinet had toothpaste stains from the previous guests where they had stood electric toothbrushes up,and the upstairs toilet the handle spins all the way around before it flushes. The windows were also mouldy throughout. The stairs also are nowhere near what I would regard as pet friendly, never mind friendly towards children or the elderly.there honestly is probably more but this is just off the top of my head.

Location
Bedding and towels were clean

Smaller than photographs implied
Beds were lumpy and uncomfortable
Cobwebs in 1st shower, pubes in top shower.
Sticky bedside table and dressing tables with cup Mark's, fridge was dirty
Front door bottom hinge not connected, front door wooden step plinth disconnected and trip hazard.
Clutter under the stairs

Great location. Very quaint and clean with a lot of history.

Nothing

Delightful cottage, centrally located. Absolutely ideal for exploring Whitby or as a base for the wider area.

A little more attention to dusting and hovering.

Easy to find great location.

Functional accommodation in a central ?ocation. Wifi was so restricted and slow for watching movies it was pointless.

The house was stunning and everything was perfect especially after such a long journey

Brilliant value for money, perfect location, definitely the wood burner!

Not so much a property dislike, but I made the booking and had zero communication apart from a receipt for the money taken… to the point where I had to call the hosts to make sure everything was set up and to request the check in info and key safe pin… at which point I was then informed I needed to complete customer verification and pay a deposit - we were literally in the car setting off ?

Anyway, that said, once I’d completed the discussed, Ewan was brilliant and even managed to get us an early check in, so thanks
We’ll see you again ?

Location was good if you like to be right near the harbour.

Unfortunately this wasn't the property for us. The stairs are an accident waiting to happen. The property needed some urgent cosmetic attention with damage to walls, dirty entrance, bed sheets stained. I was also disappointed to not have any hand wash at the sinks, no chopping boards and the wifi was pointless as it was so slow to use. The images made the property look a lot better than it actually was. A shame as it could be so much better.

The location was excellent and ease of accessing the property were very good.

There were some issues with the house. Only 2 knives and 1 teaspoon. We bought 2 additional knives and 2 teaspoons so that the 4 people in our party were able to eat together. The shower cubicle door in the first floor bedroom was off it's runners when we arrived. The stool in the same bedroom was broken. The dressing table was badly marked. In the second floor bedroom the dressing table was badly marked and the mirror on that dressing table was unstable and difficult to use without kneeling down. One of the legs on one of the sofas in the lounge looked unstable. There was damage to the paintwork at the bottom of the stairs when we arrived. It was very noticeable and approximately 3" x 4" in size. Some of the paintwork was looking very tired and the kick board under the fridge needs securing.

Beautiful quirky cottage set in an idyllic place, walkable to all Whitby has to offer. Quite hard to find especially in the dark, but worth it once found. Ten minute walk from parking zone spot. Surprisingly not as clean as the photos make out, stains on sofa, inside lock on door doesn’t work, door into kitchen/living area off hinges so couldn’t shut to keep draft out, no fire wood for the fire but heaters did the trick nicely, kick board in kitchen not attached and shower very weak. Unsure why deposit needed due to most things already not kept on top of maintenance wise. This is just me being picky though, I would definitely stay again as loved the cosy cottage feel and location was a big winner! Communication with hosts is brilliant and always responsive to any questions. Good information given for stay. If anyone is questioning a stay here I would definitely recommend.

Thread needle cottage is a charming well converted cottage. The bedrooms are great the bathrooms a bit quirky but fine. It is right in the middle of Whitby with good access to all that this charming town has to offer. However, it is described as luxury and it isn’t. The small sofas are stained and uncomfortable. No one had turned any heating on prior to our arrival and it took 24 hours to become comfortable. The first thing we saw was the vacuum cleaner and mop bucket in the living room. There was one tea spoon, 2 knives and 3 forks in the drawer. The pans are battered, the rug in the photo is missing. Given that there is a compulsory damages deposit/ fee, these things should have been addressed. The whole place needs a good clean. (Behind the tv, the mould in the showers, under the beds, stairs and skirting boards). It is small and cosy, the photographs give a false impression. We are habitually positive reviewers but feel this property is not being operated to the expected standard.

Situated near the harbour, very convenient for the town, comfortable bedrooms, nice bathroom facilities.

Heating system took a long time to get going, not really powerful enough for February. There was a log burner - but no logs! TV setup was unusual, we weren't used to a Sky box.

Had a few days break here for my sisters 60th birthday. We all really enjoyed it, fantastic location

Lovely little cottage, great location.

Living room door didn't close properly so when you were sitting in living room it was very very cold. Only other issue we had was the stairs, quite narrow and steep, I know nothing can be done about them but worth mentioning in case you have mobility problems.

Cottage in a fantastic location with a wide range of food and drink on your doorstep. Great cocktail bar next door with delicious drinks and friendly staff!

Missing some basics if you were planning to eat in. Only one pod of coffee for 4 nights, two forks, no salt, no tea towel or firewood and we ran out of toilet paper.

Bedrooms very generous size and responsive hosts. We had a great stay and loved Whitby!

Good central location and quiet. Warm in winter. Sky TV not Freeview. Modern bathroom showers etc.. Booking agent (Host & Stay) gave very good information.

Wi-fi poor ( 300kbps when tested). Stove would not close properly. Strange collection of cutlery, OK if you only use spoons! Furniture rather old.

Very central, cosy cottage. Bedroom was spacious.

No parking anywhere near property. Blind in living room fell down not long after getting there - although it had looked like it had fallen down many times before as the paint was chipped around the window. Odd bits of paint/plaster missing around the place. Crumbs on the sofas downstairs. Downstairs was very cold even with heater on full blast. Shower had no pressure at all. Internet also didn’t work, we were connected but it had zero signal.

Lovely cottage, but noisy evenings and early mornings

Central location

Late check-in time + early checkout

The location was great, very central. The property has a lot of potential but was not in good repair or as clean as it might be. There was an additional charge for property insurance from the letting company which wasn’t mentioned , expected to welcome.

The furniture could be in better repair. He showerhead in the bathroom was dirty. Opened sachets of body wash were left in the shower, not sure how this complies with Covid or hygiene policies. The mattresses were worn out. Additional, unexpected charge from letting company.

location

log burner door latch was broken and the door didn’t seal at all. this could’ve been really dangerous! property looked and could’ve done with a lick of paint here and there.

the decor and cleanliness

the roof leaked and so we were paddling downstairs. Make sure the roof is fixed before you go!

thé location.

pigeon poo on the welcome mat, sofas feel like they were going to break, dangerous staircases, stool in bedroom damaged, rough round the edges

the location is ideal. bang in the middle of Whitby! a stones throw away from the hustle and bustle! it was semi clean, and for somewhere to change and rest your head- it will do!

loved the no extra cost for dogs! well done threadneedle!

starting off with the smell of damp, which is bearable, just a smell throughout the cottage.
the furniture is the cheapest of cheap-which is fine as it does the jobs, however the beds. for the love of Mike, the most uncomfortable beds!! they sink, and can feel every spring! and once you get as comfortable as you can, you realise you can feel the top of the divan! please, change the mattresses!!!

in the first bedroom, there was an mysterious odd wet patch on the floor (no where near the window) we wasn’t able to work out where it came from-it was wet for the entire 3 days we were there! maybe one of whitbys many ghosts?

The location is brilliant, close to the train station, shops pubs and harbour. Lovely little cottage in a cobbled alley. Everything we needed for a 2 night stay, could have stayed longer. We took wood for the fire, very cosy.

The Cottage appeared loads bigger on the photos but is was so cute you couldn't help but fall in love with it.

Such a lovely weekend spent in this great cottage. Made pur stay in Whitby even better- than usual- will definitely book again!

location was superb. clean and tidy. quirky property.

bird poo outside front door should be cleaned between stays. they obviously sit on the sky dish directly above door. very awkward to get in an out without treading in it and bringing it into property.

central location, clean

toilet seat broken, toilet door doesn’t shut, noisy work on next door renovation, damp on wall on stairs,

I gave 4 starts simply for the fact that both beds are extremely uncomfortable you can feel the springs both couples had said the same other than that can't fault the place at all it's a lovely small cottage very clean and bathrooms was brilliant. The location is perfect and we parked at the car parks across the road for £18 for 2 days which we thought was easier than the scratch card parking. The communication from the host was absolutely fantastic nothing was too much trouble and gave full details we found the restaurant and bars list very helpful... Thank you

Fantastic central location, cosy cottage feel. Ewell appointed.

Nothing at all!

it was a perfect location. lovely cottage very clean & comfortable.

There was a refurbishment taking place on the cottage next door. it was very noisy on the day we were leaving from 8am. parking is extremely difficult in Whitby also.

The location

Smell, uncomfortable beds, damp towels, poor standards of hygiene, dirty cups in the cupboards.

Excellent cottage right in the heart of Whitby but not on the main thoroughfare, so it wasn't ever noisy. The cottage was clean, very well equipped and cosy. It catered for our dog who was very comfortable in the cottage. Enjoyed our stay here.

Location

Where do I start, dust everywhere, damp on the walls sofas where not comfy nor very steardy, the middle bedroom.and bathroom doors did not shut, there was mould in the showers, and in the top room the mattress you could feel every spring there was a clothes rail thing right by the bed, the shower too has signs of mould, we attempted to sleep but it was so uncomfortable, and the instructions about parking I ended up paying for parking as the scratch cards were in the house and the places to park where too far away,

It was fabulously convenient being on the doorstep of the high street and close to the marina, beach and all the amenities.
The cottage was cute and cosy and the duvets were very warming. the carpets were clean the kitchen was clean and compact. The decor was welcoming.

only Three complaints which need urgent attention for the owners to address:
1. The mattresses were beyond broken! absolutely appalling condition with deep sinking dips making the bedding extremely uncomfortable and unacceptable quiet honestly.
2. The 1st floor bathroom door does not lock.
3. The 1st floor bedroom side lamps from ceiling are too low- we banged our heads several times.
4. There were not enough toilet rolls left out and they were very very cheap quality. we ran out on 3rd day and had to buy our own stock!
5. the sitting room sofas are extremely worn out and was very very uncomfortable- felt like they would give way!
6: The 1st floor toilet seat was loose and sink too tiny. some rusting and mildew build up around shower base.
7. the front door was not in keeping with the other doors on the street or the interior of the house. It didn’t feel secure inside and unprofessional number of diy bolts.

The location was central

The Cottage was starting to show signs of wear and tear, it’s was a bit dingy due to the location. The stairs came off from the main living area and there was no door for the under stair storage, all the contents were on display, Henry the hoover, mop bucket, ironing board etc. This array of housekeeping items met us every time we walked through the door, and we sat next to them whilst eating. The sofas were tired and generally the cottage needed some TLC. It’s was nicely renovated overall and was modern, on first appearance it looked positive, but once Staying it revealed it was looking a little jaded.

Everything.
Stayed two nights previously in another cottage fab place, moved for one night to this cottage which was just as good.
Very clean 2 bed 2 bathroom fabulous. Will definitely be booking this lovely cottage again, again left us tea, coffee & milk

There was nothing to not like, perfect for what we needed

Very small but quaint property & great location close to the harbour & town centre restaurants, shops & bars.
Lovely relaxed but modern decor, nice soft furnishings etc & modern & well equipped kitchen.

Host & Stay we're very helpful with all the local information such as parking, cafes & restaurants & attractions. I checked a few things over the phone with them & they were really helpful & great hosts.

Perfect base for sight seeing in whitby & easy walk to most of the main attractions & shops etc

Would be nice to know the history of the cproperty, we guessed it was probably an old fisherman's cottage with being so close to the Harbour.

The noise from the local bar on Saturday night. Very loud live music till 2am. Not great for a family with kids but no problem if you're there to party for a weekend.
The noise on Sunday night was quieter & finished around 11pm.

We're not dog owners but the lounge floor near the fire was still covered in white dog hairs from the previous guests.

Not an issue for us personally but the stair case to both 1st & second floor is very steep. Worth considering for people with limited mobility or younger children.

All in all we had a great stay &.would use Host & Stay cottages via again without a doubt.

Very convenient location

Some work surfaces could have been cleaner, paint peeling of staircase wall, stain on first floor bedroom carpet.

Location was perfect! Right in the middle of the town, everything you need right on the doorstep. Very easy check in and access via the key code box. We got exactly what we booked and thank you!

The location was very close to the town centre

The construction going on in the adjoining property. On speaking to call centre staff they said that the neighbours had not made them aware of this. Surely it is up to the owner of the property to know what is going on in the close vicinity and if they don't, the cleaners/maintance staff should report this. It was a total rip out with heavy duty drilling starting at 8 in the morning. Had we been notified that this was likely, we would have reconsidered our stay. The noise from the pubs that the cottage is extremely close too was also an issue. The lounge/kitchen is very very small and would really only be comfortable for short stays for 4 people
The stairs up to the bedrooms should be described almost as a spiral staircase. Anyone with any kind of mobility issues would struggle to get to the toilets or bedrooms and it would be hazardous for young children too. The toilet on the landing looked lovely but trying the shower, the riser rod fell off and the shower head was leaking water. The toilet roll holder fell off and the toilet seat was not secured so when you sat on it, it would fall off the base. The WiFI was almost unusable and my husband recorded it as 6kb/sec! I notice now that this has already appeared on reviews and should have been dealt with or removed as a viable option

This air bnb is quaint and down a cute alley. it clean and perfect for a Whitby stay. very close to the train station.
If you want a quiet/ good sleep or are a light sleeper this place is not for you (on weekends especially). there is a bat very close by, they play music till 2am.

Amazing location and lovely cottage. The rooms were very comfortable and perfect for a long weekend

Small but sufficient for 4 people. Reasonably clean but far from spotless. The surrounding area is good of you are wanting to go and enjoy the nightlife but the pounding music at 2am wasn't something we would have chosen. All in all, the property is fine, probably better suited to people without children - the staircases are very steep. Communication with the host was fine apart from a message requesting we vacate 2 hours before check out which they said was sent in error and did apologise for. There is a smart TV in the living room and a router but the internet was so bad it would not workon the TV and so we just used our mobile data. The coop is just across the road which is handy. Overall it was disappointing and I don't think we will be returning.

The cottage itself was excellent, and the location couldn't have been better. The main problem was that there was no Internet /sky as advertised, and SNY couldn't resolve the issue.
Our only other problem was that they had painted the interior with gloss paint. The staff at SNY were excellent, special mention to Lillie and Hannah for going the extra mile. Will be coming back soon.

Absolutely nothing, couldn't have picked a more central location.

centre of the town free parking,

stairs were very steep and twisted ( but it’s an old property)
the pub next door was only 6 foot from my bedroom and the pubs hand dryer kept going off ( but not a major problem. I struggled to get hot water from the kitchen sink, it could have been me not using it correctly.

fantastic property and in a great location.train Station car park is nearest car park at a cost of £10 every 24hrs which isn't to much hassle compared to a 15 minute walk to nearest permit parking and if u can get into it as its a busy few roads.cottage has everything you will need and lovely settings inside.right on the harbour and everything in walking distance to enjoy your stay

The cottage was in the ideal location and was extremely homely. The hosts provided basic provisions, milk, tea coffee etc which was a lovely touch.
Comms we’re clear and constant on the run up to the stay and throughout.
Excellent stay, highly recommend!

nothing to dislike

Location
Modern interior
Spacious bedrooms. Two shower rooms, nice clean bed linen, comfy pillows, clean white towels, shower gel. Well equipped kitchen.

Difficult to operate shower to comfortable temperature. Shower raiser pole kept falling out at top. No stool for dressing table in attic room. Bed in first floor room uncomfortable, could feel springs in mattress.

Location was excellent. The accommodation was comfortable and clean.

The outside of the property needs a little attention.

Location was great.

The look of damp on the outside of the property, the smell of damp on the inside, damp spores on the stairs to the first floor, I personally didn't like the spiral stairs with no grab rail, the sofa's were well used, old and not comfortable at all. The first floor bedroom Mattress was not comfortable at all, as you could feel the springs through mattress topper and bedding.

I was unable to access the property during my reserved booking as the key box didn't work.

very nicely decorated, modern.

the stairs were a bit steep. it to be expected in a small cottage. would not. e suitable for children or very elderly people.

The cottage is located down a typical Whitby yard and well located. The bedrooms were large but had no wardrobes only hanging rails. The roof conversion bedroom did not have a stool for the small dressing table.

Tired furniture and decor in the tiny lounge. For anyone staying longer than a couple of days there is insufficient cups and crockery. There are 2 sets of steep stairs that spiral around 2 floors into the loft converted bedroom, unfortunately there are no handrails and therefore we couldn’t recommend for families with children or people with restricted mobility.
The window in the family bathroom is not securely fixed with gaps around the frame and the wooden bathroom door does not close correctly.
There are radical refurbishments ongoing in the property next door, which we were not made aware of. These will take some months to complete. The access to the front door is dirty and unattractive. Future guests should be told what to expect.
Unfortunately work on the roof (hammering and electrical sawing/grinding)started from 8:30am during our stay and also in the downstairs area in the evenings until approximately 5pm.
This was not conducive to a relaxing holiday and we would not recommend this property.

excellent location, clean, everything we needed for a comfortable stay

the outside could do with a lick of paint

Fantastic location in the centre of Whitby. Clean and comfortable accommodation. Well equipped.

Although the cottage was clean there was some damp damage to the walls going up the stairs.

Nothing

The property was disgusting, smelt of damp, bare plaster showing through due to damp on the staircase walls and the staircase is dangerous due to being twisted, so not recommended for the elderly or young kids. The property did not seem as though it had been cleaned for ages as it was grubby, untidy and one of the sofas was torn. The liquid soap was empty in the first floor bathroom and the door did not close properly. The photos on do not represent this property accurately as they make it look bigger than it is and clean. There were 4 adults in our party and there wasn't enough seating around the dining table, unless you were supposed to use the make shift coffee table as a bench for the dining table, in which case you would need to push one sofa up to the other, pull the table out for 2 to get around the back and then use the bench/coffee table at the other side. The location is central but halfway down an alleyway so the downstairs is dark and I recommend you read previous reviews on to understand the problems regarding the nearby nightclub, ie. Music until 3am, drunks peeing in the alleyway, fights, etc. We did not want to stay here due to the state it was in, so we contacted Host & Stay and they were less than helpful in trying to find alternative accommodation for us, so we found an excellent place to stay ourselves and it was a lot cheaper - We will avoid any Host & Stay properties when we book future breaks.

Excellent cottage to base a stay in Whitby. All the amenities you would need in the cottage and an really good location near to everything in Whitby

This property is a complete misrepresentation and we have reported to trading standards

The proprerty was a disgrace, damp, mould, rust, a dirty oven paint peeling, a dangerous fire, coffee machine that did not work, no hot water to the sinks a kitchen "Heater Tap" that was supposed to generate hot water for the kitchen and bathrooms!

You will struggle to find a better location for exploring Whitby. Right in the centre but still quiet at night. Two well presented rooms & enough space for us. Our dog was alsio very happy here.

Fantastic location in the heart of Whitby that was convenient for restaurants, bars, attractions and shops. Charming period cottage. Very well equipped kitchen and cosy lounge with plenty of radiators. Excellent 1st floor power shower.

The cottage seemed a bit neglected and needs some TLC. Blocked outside drain and broken pipe outside. No hot water in 1st floor bathroom sink. When we tried to run the water in the sink in an attempt to get hot water, the water ran into the yard outside. 1st floor bed has a dip in the middle and springs which stick out and made it uncomfortable to sleep in. Top of the blind stuck on with 3 small patches of Velcro kept falling down. The kitchen has a floorboard which sticks out and we twice tripped over it. These and other very minor niggles slightly marred an otherwise very pleasant stay.

Good location, comfortable beds

Couldn't get the hot water to work upstairs. A
Bit cold

Central location
Very clean
Milk provided

Rooms cold on arrival & heating system not great (some wood would have been nice)
No hot running water in upstairs taps
Bins in bathrooms a bit grim
Towels not great quality
Untidy under stairs

Good Location , very clean , the facilities were good , showers were good

Having read previous reviews about lack of hot water I was disappointed that there was still No hot water in bathroom or en-suite basins , stairs were challenging and this wasn’t stated. It states dog friendly but it isn’t really suitable.

Great Central location. Cozy little cottage and clean with good cooking facilities. Very easy to check in and out.

WiFi was very slow so we couldn't use it. As our stay was in winter we were wanting to make use of the smart TV and Netflix but the WiFi couldn't cope.

property was in a great location, just across from train station and near town but never too loud with people and cars passing by

breezy and bright natural lighting, lovely furniture and cute little cottage in general! easy to get to and feels safe

we were going to bring dogs but decided not to due to the beach illness going around at the moment but love that we would’ve been able to have the dogs to stay too! good dog friendly places are hard to find

nice amenities- good having two bathrooms in smaller cottage, dishwasher and telly - all modern. a lot of lighting options so we could make it as dim or bright as we wanted.

overall a great stay, we love whitby and would recommend this property but just some little things that need improving and it would be 10/10

a bit smaller than we expected from the pictures but still nice

bathroom doors didn’t close or lock - don’t stay with anyone you’re not comfortable going to the toilet in front of ?

stains on walls and sofa pillows and paint coming off walls outside and inside - tiny bit worn down and scruffy but with bit of TLC it would be great

first floor radiator didn’t work - only had a small fan heater to make do and obviously couldn’t leave it on overnight so was freezing when we woke up - entire house quite cold - not very good insulation on windows downstairs

building work was going on next door nearly every day - we could have been made aware, they were quite noisy in the morning

shower on the first floor either freezing cold or boiling hot no inbetween

hair and a bit dirty around bottom of the showers

overall just needs a bit of TLC and the heating sorted out but still a lovely stay

Fantastic little cottage with lovely bedrooms and bathrooms in a perfect location, especially if you need to be close to amenities like the train station, supermarket etc.
Really enjoyed our stay.

The only disappointment was the oven and grill had not been cleaned and the previous guests had cooked bacon under the grill leaving the grill pan etc needing a good clean, disappointing when you are ready to start cooking your own breakfast! Never the less this was obviously an oversight so wouldn't let that put potential customers off.

Excellent central location, comfortable and stylish interior.

lovely little property. not a criticism but it would have been nice to have had a starter pack of logs for the fire. and a small coffee table as we had to use the table bench. overall a very clean and tidy little cottage with everything you need for a stay away.

the mattress in the top bedroom was very poor and the springs were very prominent. it’s a great location but really spoiled by the very noisy pub at the end of the row that stayed open until 3am followed by boy racers Speeding up and down into the early hours.

the location was great right in the centre of the town. we got given milk, tea, coffee, cleaning supply’s.

from first glance looked clean but there was a lot of dust in the fist bathroom and the dishwasher hadn’t been emptied from last time.
feel like they could have gave us complementary logs for the fire.

very clean. good facilities. both bedrooms had own bathroom facilities

down stair area a little small

the location is great and can park nearby at the train station

the property smelt fusty and was a little on the small side for 4 people

Compact but very comfortable. Brilliant location.

Nothing really, but cosmetic detail to exterior of house could use attention. Exterior flaking belies a decent interior.
Similarly, a little damp patch indoors needs attention.

Clean tidy and in a very central location

Difficult to oark but the hosts give great advise and parking is hard in whitby at the bests of times

Bedrooms were clean and cosy

The staircase was a bit tricky. We had an issue with the heating in the living area which was rectified after a call. However we also noticed the lamp in the living area didn’t work and the shower in the attic room was starting to fall apart. And there was a lot of junk under the stairs. The toilet seat in the main bathroom sliding around.

Well equipped and modern

Winding staircase

Great central location, really comfy large beds, nice decor. Good facilities (dishwasher was a bonus for this type of property)! Two couples, great to have 2 bathrooms. Nice bakery very close! Would definately stay here again.

Parking is always a problem in Whitby with nowhere to unload - but that's standard and we did expect it!! Nice to have parking permits included though.

location was good , not cleaned properly, dirty towels left in bathroom, to said you pay £55 to have it cleaned. the fridges was dirty and the down stairs floor was to .

location , was the best about the cottage , the bedrooms was good

The cottage was in a good position and had the equipment we needed

Outside wall rendering falling to bits looking scruffy bits fell as dust when the door pulled shut
Key box faulty
Wasn’t cleaned properly but this was remedied by a cleaner being sent round who agreed with our thoughts sofas stained
Fridge not cleaned
2nd floor bathroom no hot water and in both bathrooms shower attachment fell of wall
Loose toilet seats
Patches of paint off inside walls obviously not checked re upkeep
Placemats peeling and dirty
First floor window needs attention re cleaning frame
The upstairs bed was so uncomfortable with springs digging in Found a duvet to put over as it was the only way to get sleep

The property was clean. That was about it.

As we arrived the exterior of the property could do with a damn good decorate. The exterior paint was all flaking off the walls. We had to open our suitcases in the lounge as the staircase is very steep and awkward to take any big case upstairs. Also flaky paint in the lounge by the fireplace and the television unit had seen better days.

We booked a 4 nights stay for £1000 but only stayed for one night. This was due to taking a lateral flow test on Sunday 28th August whilst being at the cottage and it was positive. We then had to travel quickly and directly back home to book in for a PCR test. This was by no means the properties fault and we did keep them in the loop with a phone call about a member of our party who had developed covid before we even arrived.

What we are annoyed about is the one night that we did stay there. (At this point we had no symptoms.)What a dreadful night’s sleep! There appears to be a night club in the lounge that was not advertised!! The fact is that there is a night club right on the door step with extremely loud music/din going on until 3am. As soon as dawn came up the pigeons in the rooftop began their little party! This explains why there is bird poo all over the windows in the loft bedroom.

We have had messages back and forth with the property. The covid is no ones fault. We except that and it’s just awful luck for what was supposed to be a lovely bank holiday break. We simply asked if they could find it in their heart to offer a token money refund for the one awful night that was so disruptive. Considering they took payment of £1000 for the 4 nights, I really didn’t think it was a lot to ask. Today the property declined to give us any refund at all.

Instead we were offered a discount code for a future stay as a firm final say! Why seriously would they think we would ever want to stay there again?? It’s down a grotty alleyway where people are lurking around at night. It is small and cramped and not big enough for 4 people.

Great place for couples to stay, really close to the centre of Whitby and great for restaurants and bars.
No parking nearby so will need to carry bags!

Great location, excellent communication. A well stocked kitchen so cooking was easy!

Lovely cottage perfect for what we wanted. Good location close by to everything.

Nothing. Was lovely

The location is great, with easy access to public transport. Was a little noisey at night with music from the bar on the corner. Communication from the host was good too.

Ideally located in the centre of town. Parking was an issue - permits provided but never any availability to use them.

The property was a lot smaller than it looked in the pictures. A little tired in places - flakey paint.
We mentioned a blocked sink and loose toilet seat / we were asked to leave the key in the key safe and we did this for 2 days, but no one came to address these issues.
Lack of any hooks whatsoever ever in the bathroom, so unable hang wet towels up after showering and indeed whilst showering, so they had to go in the floor. A few hooks would gave made all the difference!
Having stayed in a more luxurious property in York prior to this stay / it did feel expensive for what you got.

Whitby itself was lovely and we have since discovered some lovely places to stay, much nicer areas...Threadneedle cottage is not in a nice location and the property itself has not been looked after . The pictures on here aren't true at all. The cottage smelt of damp, the walls were dirty, there was dog hair all over living furniture and floors (our dogs are grey and the hair was black long ones) underneath the stairs there is a pile of empty boxes from when items have been purchased for the property but then just left there. the outside of the property was also very disappointing, again all paint coming away from walls, seagull poo everywhere, empty takeaway boxes and beer cans outside of property and down the entry. Also with there being a nightclub at the back of the cottage and a cocktail bar at the end of the entry, we were woken up every night with people drunk outside and the last night of our stay there was a fight at 3.30am that lasted for almost an hour, right outside our front was hideous. And when contacting the hosts, I was told I should have reported these things straight away and they would have been rectified. For £700 for 3 night I expected to have no issues. I would strongly recommend not staying at the property.

Cottage was beautifully decorated and very clean. It was ideally situated for the centre.

The outside of the property does not do it justice, it is in need of a paint and upgrade.

Location / bedrooms / bathrooms

A little claustrophobic/ sitting room and kitchen dark / flooring wasn’t too inviting downstairs

Great location,.very clean, had everything we needed

Clean and nicely presented accommodation but problems with showering in both bedrooms. Kitchen living area smells of dampness. Good location but parking is really difficult even with pass provided

Great location!

Threadneedle cottage was the perfect base for our short stay in Whitby, well located and close to the harbour. Checkin was easy and the cottage was clean and well equipped. We had a lovely break. Thankyou.

Amazing location and lovely little place.

A great place to stay with friends in you're wanting to explore Whitby and the surrounding areas easily and immediately. The parking was a doddle as was getting out and about, fantastic stay over all!

Great location in the heart of Whitby, communication was fantastic and they dealt with any issues quickly.

Fantastic location, large bedrooms with lovely decor and great communication from hosts. Would recommend.

Great location, really clean and beautiful interiors. We would definitely come again. We really appreciated the extra touches that made our stay even more relaxing, such as the coffee machine and milk already in the fridge! The communication about check in and check out was really clear and we didn’t have any problems.

Perfect location, within walking distance of everything you need but still quiet. The cottage was very clean and had everything we needed.

An outstanding place to stay in the centre of Whitby. Clean and comfy accommodation. Parking can be found in designated areas which was provided by the host. If spaces were not available there were many others in paid or free areas. I definitely recommend this place and will be to friends and family.

We loved our stay at the cottage. Very clean and beautifully decorated.

A lovely cottage with enough room for 4 adults. Very close to all amenities and the station and co-op are just across the road. The cottage had everything you would need for a stay. We had a wonderful time there.

Lovely stay, amazing location, easy check in no hassle at all, the place was immaculate and the kitchen had everything you need and more

We arrived to find the electric radiators not working then found the hob and oven not working. Upon checking the fuse board found the fuses had tripped for the sockets, after resetting them things were ok until we went to bed and found the sockets for the bedside lights not working. the next morning found fuses tripped again, reset and within a few minutes it happened again. We then noticed water coming through the ceiling from the first floor bathroom. The Stairs are steep and and would be rather difficult to manage for anyone elderly and i feel should be mentioned when people book.

My stay at Threadneedle cottage was perfection from start to finish. The property itself was to say the least outstanding! So cosy and immaculately clean. The hosts had thought of everything to make our Boxing day special. Christmas tree, greeting card, prosecco in the fridge, coffee machine, toiletries, we really didn't want to go out. The location is perfect with the whole of Whitby on your doorstep. Big thankyou Emily and Dale we will highly recommend and definitely be back.
