Property Details

The Space
Smartly attired, and snug to boot, Tides is a superb property and perfect for those looking to have a place to stay where they can strike out and take in all the sights, sounds, tastes and smells that a holiday in Whitby can offer.

Upon entering the property you will immediately find yourself in the heart of the property and its combined living, kitchen and dining space. For ease of use and practicality sake, the kitchen area is stylishly tiled, and surrounds the sensible work surfaces that are ideal for creating whatever you might want to whip up during your stay. Beyond that you will find the kitchen is fully equipped with all sorts of appliances that you might require, including coffee maker, cutlery, dishwasher, fridge and freezer, gas hob, kettle, microwave and a toaster.

The room also has a dining table with room to seat all guests comfortably. This then backs onto the living area which is dominated by the plush and comfy, navy blue sofa, coffee table and rug. Here you can spread out on the sofa and make the most of the flat screen TV.

Move on left from the kitchen and enter the hallway, from which you can access both bedrooms and the bathroom. The first bedroom is fitted with a king-sized bed and shrouded in a rich, deep blue colour scheme. A pair of bedside tables and lamps flank the bed on either side, and there is also a chest of drawers on offer for any storage you may require. The second bedroom is similarly equipped with bedside tables and lamps, a chest of drawers and it includes another king-sized bed, however it is decorated with a much paler, baby blue colouring on the walls.

Finally, you will come to the bathroom. It is an exciting room to be in, pairing shining black tiles and bright white fixtures. The main feature is the large walk-in shower, which could certainly be pretty useful after those long days exploring Whitby. It also contains useful storage space in the cabinet, whilst it also boasts a wash basin and WC.

Host & Stay are committed to our owners that their homes are protected during guest bookings. For this reason, we require all our guests to transfer a Damage Deposit (refundable, subject to an administration charge) or, to purchase an Accidental Damage Waiver which will cover you for up to £500.00 of accidental damage during your stay.

Neighborhood
Tides is just a short 10-minute walk into the centre of town. Head to Pier Road and you’ll find cosy pubs, fun arcades and plenty of fish restaurants. Continue along the lively road until you reach the beautiful, blue flag West Cliff Beach which is lined with idyllic beach huts. At the other end of Pier Road, you’ll notice the swing bridge which sits over the River Esk.

Over the bridge, you’ll find yourself on the East bank which is full of narrow medieval streets dotted with boutiques, pubs and even more fish restaurants. Climb the famous 199 steps up to the Church of Saint Mary. You can also discover the renowned ruined Whitby Abbey, which was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s gothic novel ‘Dracula’.

Step outside of Whitby and you’ll uncover a haven of woodland and moorland. Whitby forms part of the North York Moors National Park so it’s the perfect place for long walks.

Getting Around
The centre of Whitby is a short 10-minute walk from Tides.

Whitby train station is less than half a mile away so villages and towns along the North Yorkshire coast can easily be reached via rail. There’s also a taxi rank in close proximity to the train station.

There are plenty of bus routes throughout Whitby. Hop on the X4 and you can visit beautiful coastal villages like Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Staithes. The X93 travels along the coast to Scarborough. The 95 route features plenty of quaint villages, such as Grosmont and Lealholm.

Perfect location, comfortable beds and great facilities it had everything we needed.<br/><br/>Struggled to find anywhere selling parking scratch cards so had to park 15 minutes walk from the property. Also would be a benefit to invest in an ariel for the television in order to watch normal channels as we don’t use Netflix etc so tv was unusable.

Location was good. Beds were very comfortable. Apartment was reasonably clean.<br/><br/>I was annoyed to find that a security deposit was required in addition to the price quoted, and paid in full at the time of booking. <br/>I was, more annoyed to find that you would be keeping £10 of my £250 deposit for 'administration costs'. This is blatant overcharging in my eyes. <br/>The outside appearance of apartment needed attention, uneven path, huge weeds growing, and paintwork was very grubby. Dirty washing was left in the washing machine. Freezer had been turned off and water was leaking over the floor. The fan wasn't working in the bathroom, and was reported just after our arrival. I was assured it would be dealt with urgently, but it still wasn't fixed by the end of the week.

Ideally located and a lovely apartment. Very clean and the beds were extremely comfortable. Plenty of utensils to make a meal and very modern<br/><br/>Nothing

The decor was lovely, we had everything we needed.<br/><br/>There were dog hairs on the settee and carpets, stains on the carpets too, we didn’t get a scratch card to help with parking but everyone else on our road did and it took the staff 3 days to find out the property didn’t supply them.

Read the small print!!!!! I wish I had read previous reviews before booking. The security deposit is an absolute sham. Host&Stay were constantly messaging me during our stay to remind me of the check out procedure. Needless to say, we were out of the property by 10am prompt (even though it was new year's day) The accommodation was nicely presented but looking a bit tired and in need of decoration. The bathroom didn't look as though it had been cleaned thoroughly (lots of marks on shower screen and tiles) It didn't feel as though much consideration had been given to guess. Insufficient toilet roll for 4 people, no welcome pack, no washing up equipment etc. It's the little touches that create a good impression! The settee is not big enough for 4 people so 2 had to use uncomfortable chairs even though there is space for 2 settees. The security deposit system is an absolute pain and totally unnecessary. I have just rceived ours back and this has taken 12 days! Not only have they had my £250 for almost a month they have the cheek to charge a £10 admin fee!!! Needless to say, we will not be using Host&Stay again!!! There are plenty of alternarive properties in whitby!!!

It was absolutely perfect for our couples getaway! Clean, spacious, and an excellent location. We could get everywhere on foot and spent the evenings chilling at the house and saved money by cooking our own meals. We will definitely be staying here again next time we visit. I highly recommend it!

Location is excellent.<br/>Beds were comfortable.<br/>Modern decor.<br/>Spacious.<br/>Considering dogs are welcome here, there wasn't a single trace of dogs having been there previously.<br/><br/>It was generally very clean, but some areas could have done with better cleaning and a bit of low-level general maintenance. Bedrooms were dusty, a couple of the blind slats were broken, bathroom plugholes were slow to drain. Nothing bad enough to warrant a complaint or to stop me staying there again though.

The apartment was very clean and tidy. Very well equipped, and positioned close to the town centre.<br/><br/>We could not get the bathroom towel rail to heat up. Also, it was fortunate that the weather was exceptionally warm as the central heating didn't come on even when the thermostat was raised.

The property was in a good location, clean, warm and comfortable. Would we stay again? NO. Read the dislikes.<br/><br/>Firstly, when you book to stay somewhere and the price is stated you expect to pay that price, no not here. Once booked you will receive an email informing you that you MUST take out property insurance for your stay. Your choice will be to pay a further £25 to take out a damage waiver or, to deposit £250 as accidental damage cover which you will be charged (£10 none returnable) for the pleasure of them holding your £250 for three weeks. Afterwards you will receive your £250 back but not after a further wait for administration purposes? Even though you know you have not caused any damage, it is quite an anxious wait while you wonder if some damage caused by someone else on there visit will be charged to you and you cant do anything about it. So please read the small print and be aware of this before book.<br/><br/>Secondly, the property is quite modern which in some respects is nice, however the television does not have an aerial socket, DVD player, set top box, or any sound system. The tv streams straight from the WIFI which is in the bedroom. The reception is generally OK but for some strange reason at about 11pm until around 9am EACH night the WIFI signal disappeared leaving the tv unusable. For us, other than not being able to watch the end of the program we were viewing or being unable to watch the news on a morning, this was not to bad. However, if you had children with you, mornings might be a little strange for them while everyone just sits, talks and stares at each other until the WIFI strangely comes back on again 9am. Also due to the property location, during this blackout period we had no mobile reception or data whatsoever.<br/><br/>Finally, no tea spoons??

location was central close to a car park, accommodation was reasonably clean, beds were comfortable, plenty of hot water, spacious enough for four people<br/><br/>No instructions with heating, lovely television but confusing how to access the normal channels such as ITV ( had to go to pub to watch football) ? half eaten dog chewy found under couch (we left our dog at home) cutlery draw only had one teaspoon in and three forks , the blinds in the bedroom could do with a clean, hooks would be an advantage on back of doors.

It was very central and close to all amenities. The property being decorated in a very stylish high standard with all the facilities you could require.<br/><br/>The only thing I could say (not meaning to be picky) would be that the kitchen area was perhaps overstocked with duplicate items with just a few minor ones missing - I.e. placemats/coaster; teaspoons & scissors (or perhaps I didn’t find them amongst all the other items)

Location and cleanliness excellent, very spacious. Would def return and recommend ?<br/><br/>WiFi not great including TV signal but not a massive issue as we spent a lot of time out.<br/>Parking tricky if you want free but once we found some, again wasn't an issue as we didn't need the car till we went home.

Overall - happy with the location and property. <br/>Stay clear of the host & Stay (Company)<br/><br/>The hosting company is a different story. <br/>We found a few issues on arrival - the main one was the metal/sharp edge on entry. We had an injury from this. The host company, who take a damage deposit and instead of fixing this issue blamed us for it not being fixed and offered no form of acceptable completion, we are no longer getting responses from them on this matter. Would stay clear of the host & Stay (Company)

I’d highly recommend this AirBnB for anyone looking to visit Whitby. It’s close to everything! Yet in a quiet part of town so you aren’t bothered by noise at night. We arrived at 1800 on a Friday, which I wouldn’t recommend as parking options were slim but we were able to find a spot without feeling like too much time was wasted searching.
