Child-Friendly Holiday Homes

Monday 22nd July, 2019 by Host & Stay

In today’s blog, we’re going to discuss different ways to make your holiday home the perfect place for family holidays. Families make up one of the largest holiday let markets so it’s worth considering whether your property is suitable for child-friendly stays.

1. ENTERTAINMENT

For lots of guests, they want a home from home when holidaying with children so they appreciate any familiar home comforts that you provide. Offering games, books and TV are a great way to keep everyone entertained. Additional extras like Sky or Netflix can be a sure-fire way to get brownie points from both adults and children too.

Our five bedroom property, Aysgarth Nook, manages to nail this perfectly without losing the wow factor. The property has heaps of entertainment – such as games, books, TV and even a piano. It is furnished to the highest standard with a modern yet homely interior.

2. MAKE USE OF YOUR SPACE

To attract families with children, it’s important that you’re aware of the space within your property. If the size of the bedroom permits it, try to organise the layout so there’s space for a travel cot. It’s also useful to provide a pull-out bed if you don’t have any single beds.

It’s also a great idea to include bunk beds in your property to utilise space and appeal directly to families. Our Clovelly House in Knaresborough does this perfectly, with a charming bedroom perfect for children.

3. CREATE A CENTRAL HUB

Try to create a comfortable living space where families can relax. Think of it as a central hub within your property where everyone can gather. This is usually the living room but it completely depends on your property.

Our Sandpiper Apartment in Whitby is a lovely example for this. It has a tranquil living area with plenty of seating and space. This is the ideal room for families to relax or play games.

4. WELCOME HAMPER

When welcoming guests to your property, it’s always a good idea to leave a welcome pack which includes vital information such Wi-Fi passwords, instructions and recommendations. This avoids any stress for your guests as everything they need is in one place for them to refer back to.

It’s also thoughtful to leave your guests useful items such as milk, bread and cheese. This is especially ideal for families so they have the necessities in before heading to any local shops. By doing this, you’ll help to increase your star ratings as it will certainly be appreciated by your guests.

5. OUTDOOR SPACE

A garden can be a real selling point for some families when choosing their holiday home so it’s important you make the most of your outdoor space if you have it.

There’s lots of things to consider when making your outdoor space suitable for children. The most important thing is safety. Keep your outdoor space enclosed and make sure any water is fenced off, such as ponds and pools.

By adding a seating area, families can enjoy meals in the sunshine. It also allows parents to relax in the garden as they watch over the children. If you really want to appeal to families and you have the space, you could include swings or a slide. If you don’t have enough space, you could alternatively mention local playgrounds in your welcome pack.
