The entrance door into the property opens out onto the garden which is a real added bonus to Hope Cottage. Take a seat on the bench and enjoy the sun as you enjoy your morning coffee, or even a late tipple where you can watch the sky go dark and the clouds burn orange as evening turns to night.

Neighbourhood

Hope Cottage is located a short distance from the centre of Whitby so you’ll find restaurants, shops and pubs less than a 15-minute walk away. The cottage is located on the West side of Whitby. You’ll be able to revel in the nostalgic seaside charm - head to the arcades or explore the beautiful, blue flag West Cliff Beach which is lined with idyllic beach huts. Venture over the swing bridge and you’ll reach the East bank. This side of Whitby is full of narrow, mediaeval streets dotted with boutiques, pubs and fish restaurants. Climb the famous 199 steps up to the Church of Saint Mary. You can also discover the renowned ruined Whitby Abbey, which was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s gothic novel ‘Dracula’. Step outside of Whitby and you’ll uncover a haven of woodland and moorland. Whitby forms part of the North York Moors National Park so it’s the perfect place for long walks.

Getting Around

Whitby train station is a short walk away from Hope Cottage so villages and towns along the North Yorkshire coast can easily be reached via rail. There’s also a taxi rank in close proximity to the train station. There are plenty of bus routes throughout Whitby. Hop on the X4 and you can visit beautiful coastal villages like Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Staithes. The X93 travels along the coast to Scarborough. The 95 route features plenty of quaint villages, such as Grosmont and Lealholm.

Great location, being close to town harbour, little front garden for the dog was good. Comfy bed and spacious bathroom. Windows need a good clean inside and out the garden needs tidying up, the grass is long and weeds are growing over the entrance gate.

Lovely little cottage in a good lovation and only a short walk downhill to the town. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen and bathroom were modern and well planned. There is no washing machine but for a four nigjt stay this was no problem.if you are elderly or infirm be aware that the stairs are quite steep. The garden is at the front.and up 2 steps. A tall hedge gives some privacy and shade. There is a large Sainsburys a couple of miles away and a large Co oP in town where there are many good seafood restaurants and takeaways. All in all we had a lovely 4 night stay and hope to come again.
