Dog Friendly Holiday Home

Osborne House is dog friendly so you're welcome to bring your pup along for your stay.

The Space
Osborne House is a stylish and quirky property with plenty of character. Located on the corner of Osborne Terrace, this charming holiday home is set across four floors.

Upon entering on the ground floor, you’ll be welcomed into a bright and clean space. You’ll find the kitchen and dining room on this floor, along with a WC.

As you walk along the hallway, the dining room is the first door on the right-hand side. This room has the same clean style which flows throughout the rest of the property. It features light coloured walls and a dining table with seating for 10 people. The property’s original character is preserved with the beautiful fireplace which is framed perfectly with a pastel green mantelpiece. Stunning pieces of artwork showcasing the coast adorn the walls creating a truly relaxing place to enjoy family meals and gatherings with friends.

The kitchen is light and neutral. The modern space is fully equipped with an oven, hob, fridge freezer, microwave, kettle, coffee machine, dishwasher and washing machine – so you’ll have everything you could need for your stay.

Head up the stairs and you’ll find the living room and main bathroom on the first floor. The living room is a beautiful area with high-quality furnishings and a tranquil feel. Kick back and relax on the leather sofa. Turn on the flat screen TV and watch your favourite shows or be captivated by the incredible view of the boats on the marina from the windows.

The main bathroom has wow factor. A huge, freestanding bathtub sits directly in front of a striking purple wall and there is a large walk in shower to the left.

Follow the stairs up to the second floor and here you’ll discover two bedrooms and a WC. Both bedrooms are peaceful and elegant with the same stunning aesthetic as the rest of the house. Beautiful exposed beams, wonderful views and luxury furnishings make both bedrooms into stylish havens where you can relax after a day of exploring Whitby.

Both bedrooms are fitted with a daybed that can sleep two children each. The larger bedroom features a 32-inch wall-mounted TV for additional entertainment options.

The final bedroom is located on the lower ground floor. This room has neutral walls and modern spotlights in the ceiling. Pops of navy blue accompany the otherwise neutral colour scheme. Views of the marina can be seen from the door and gorgeous artwork sits above the bed. You’ll also find an en-suite which has a walk-in shower and an ultra-modern style.

Two single day beds can be made up at Osborne House upon request, increasing the occupancy of the property to 10.

Neighborhood
Set on the West side of Whitby, Osborne House is just a short 10-minute walk into the centre of town. Head to Pier Road and you’ll find cosy pubs, fun arcades and plenty of fish restaurants. Continue along the lively road until you reach the beautiful, blue flag West Cliff Beach which is lined with idyllic beach huts. At the other end of Pier Road, you’ll notice the swing bridge which sits over the River Esk.

Over the bridge, you’ll find yourself on the East bank which is full of narrow medieval streets dotted with boutiques, pubs and even more fish restaurants. Climb the famous 199 steps up to the Church of Saint Mary. You can also discover the renowned ruined Whitby Abbey, which was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s gothic novel ‘Dracula’.

Step outside of Whitby and you’ll uncover a haven of woodland and moorland. Whitby forms part of the North York Moors National Park so it’s the perfect place for long walks.

Getting Around
Whitby train station is just a short 10-minute walk away so villages and towns along the North Yorkshire coast can easily be reached via rail. There’s also a taxi rank in close proximity to the train station.

There are plenty of bus routes throughout Whitby. Hop on the X4 and you can visit beautiful coastal villages like Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Staithes. The X93 travels along the coast to Scarborough. The 95 route features plenty of quaint villages, such as Grosmont and Lealholm.

Location was really good
Bedrooms are spacious and comfortable

The first issue is the £350 safety deposit which doesnt get mentioned until you book. They then offer to remove the deposit if you give an extra £35. This is unclear at best and lots of people will feel forced in to giving up a further £35 as they cant afford for another £350 to leave their account temporarily.

In terms of the property itself, it desperately needs a deep clean and freshening up. The walls are marked, things like blinds etx are really dirty. There is water damage and marks over the walls and ceilings that hasnt been addressed. The wifi doesn't work. The sofas and seating area is really worn out.

Lovely home over 4 floors, slightly tricky stone steps up from road but very easy walk into Whitby and very comfy beds.

Everything we needed for our visit was provided. The accommodation was clean, well maintained with modern decor. Very generous bath in good sized main bathroom and a powerful shower .Four areas to chill out , in the back yard , in the living room , in the dining room and on a bench in front of the property catered for all weather conditions.

No parking associated with the property but although there is on street parking directly opposite the spaces are quickly filled. Didn't really affect our stay though as the party had visited to walk and cycle so once parked up it was no problem for our stay.

We visited for a wedding so wanted a house suitable for 6 adults and 4 kids and that’s exactly what we got. The room layouts were ideal for our set up and beds clean and comfy. We felt very relaxed and at home

The house was clean and nicely decorated, and in a good location just 10 minutes walk from the train station and town. It was comfortable for 8 guests and well-equipped. The only issue was the shower leaking through the kitchen ceiling, which I can see from other reviews was an issue before!

Great location and house, second to none but.... be aware that the booking company "host and stay" would not give us access to the keys until I paid 25 quid for an insurance policy I did not need. Verges on a scam so read the small print. House also had cheap and broken chairs just left in the divining room and a broken oven door that was not fixed, despite the fact the company told us not to use it; great for self catering. Great house, shocking management

See above

We have stayed here before but this time the property needed work as did the facilities, location was about the only bonus

Place had not been cleaned thoroughly, Stains on table in living room, coasters were also dirty, forks in kitchen bent at the lightest pressure, not enough pans to cook a decent sized breakfast, leak from 2nd floor shower through roof in kitchen caused a flood over work tops and into cupboards. Upstairs' toilet seat adrift and light in bedroom to left not working

Fabulous location, super comfy beds!
Needs a fresh coat of paint, some fixtures and fittings are broken or rusty, the lounge definitely needs another chair as cannot seat 6 adults! The beanbags are neither use and also smell of urine!
The drains in the downstairs bedroom smell like rotten eggs!

Jane

18/09/2023

It was within walking distance to Whitby town centre.

The property was a bit rough round the edges a few things needed fixing. Could do with door mats and bins in the rooms. We had a problem with the shower the plumber came out asap but couldn’t fix it. We were 6 adults using 1 little shower which wasn’t ideal.

we had a lovely stay at Whitby, the house was in a good location with easy access to the town, nice and clean property on 4 levels, Whitby is a great little town to explore over a weekend, a couple of issues with the property but nothing to major,

House is lovely a lot of steps but it is whitby. The little niggles are in the sitting room there are seats for 5 people with two rather flat beanbags if this house takes 8 don't expect to be comfortable together. 6 plates 6 forks and one rather small fry pan (non nonstick too) dining table comfortably takes 6 would be tight for 8. Overall the house is lovely the bathroom amazing and very clean I would stay again but only if 6 people were going and I'd take some kitchen wear of my own. A little more attention to the kitchen and facilities you've got a gem

Richard

Very nice place to stay, good location, close enough to town centre but not too noisy or crowded where it was

Gareth

14/04/2023

Our grandchildren (12, 10 and 6) loved the place - wanted us to buy a place like it! Then decided their parents should! ? Very clean and comfortable.

Kitchen needs more crockery and cooking equipment e.g. bowls for the microwave. As we were only there for 2 nights, these were not so essential. Swing bin bags far too small, too few dishwasher tablets - there were 7 of us and needed to use dishwasher as limited crockery.

Sharon

An excellent, well equiped house, clean and fresh. I would never hesitate in going back to stay.
It was perfect for a mixed group of guests, adults and children. However, it wouldn't suit guests who couldn't manage stairs. There are steps to access the front door and the property is over three levels.

A very comfortable stay in a prime location.
The house was warm and well appointed, the views and location were perfect.
The lounge was particularly welcoming and we enjoyed gathering there in the evening as a family.
We all found the beds to be comfortable.
None of the negative comments below would stop us from wishing to stay again, just observations which would benefit from being looked at.
This review is written on behalf of my mother (booked name Hunt)

There were a few issues such as a leak from the bathroom into the kitchen (reported) and the Saniflow system in the basement bedroom unfortunately left an eggy smell after using the shower and sink but I know this is a well known issue with these types of systems unfortunately.
The oven door needs looking at as it felt loose to us and it took a lot longer to cook our dinner one night as I suspect the heat was being lost.
The lock on the door down to the basement bedroom felt like it was on back to front, it would be nice to be able to lock from the stairs/bedroom side to stop anyone walking in on you in the shower!
There were two broken dining chairs (note left in the property from another guest who had spotted it)
Also the heating did not appear to be working in the basement bedroom, however this may have just been user error.

Antony

17/11/2022

great location and plenty of space !

Wi-Fi didn’t work, basement radiator didn’t work, draws in basement fell apart , no mirrors for ladies to do their hair, steep steps leading upto the house pitch black at night , dining room chair dodgy and table matts scruffy, alert from that ok

Sharon

14/11/2022

Good space, modern decor, comfy beds, towels and essentials (e.g toilet rolls) provided, good location 5 minutes from town.

General paintwork and upholstery could do with a clean, sofa and dining room chairs are grubby. None of us could connect to WiFi. There was staining on the kitchen ceiling so must be a leak from the shower above. The downstairs bedroom can be locked outside but not inside (shower is at bottom of stairs so anyone can open door to come down whilst showering). No mirrors in bedrooms.

Lovely house in a great location. Easy enough to get parked on the street. A lot of steps / uneasy paths to access the house. Needs a bit of work doing, wear and tear. No wardrobe space and coat hooks half hanging off wall - couldn’t use them. When you go for 1 week you have quite a bit of baggage but chest of draws in each bedroom. Main downside was that it needed a good clean. Dishwasher smelt, when you looked up at the extractor fan on the cooker it was filthy! Bedding was all fine/ clean and comfy beds. Bathroom and showers all fine. Kitchen sink tap loose and dirty blind. Tried to used the frying pan for breakfast - in a very bad way, couldn’t use it. Marks all over staircase, made it look like it needed hoovering. Information folder in dining room was all sticky like a menu in a dirty pub. When we arrive the electric box door was swinging open and a lot of weeds, not the best first impression. We had a good week overall after a quick clean round, cannot fault the host, just the few odd jobs that need doing and a deep clean.

Such a lovely little house in a great location with a short walk to the shops, restaurants and the beach.
Kitchen had everything that we needed and we even had tea bags.
The large bathroom was amazing.
Would definitely like to go back

It was all great but there are lots of steps , so be mindful if you are travelling with elderly or little ones.

Danika

18/07/2022

We were a group of 7, all family, and the property is huge, so spacious! Has 4 floors so I wouldn’t advise for anyone with mobility issues, but has everything you need. Kitchen, dining room, amazing main bathroom, 1 double en-suite with single bed and 2 top floor double bedrooms one with single bed in also and separate toilet, so you can fit a lot of people in fantastic for big family or friends.
Decor is beautiful, a lot of thought and money has been spent doing the property up.
The kitchen is fully equipment including coffee machine and pods.
Location is great, the road which takes you to the property is parallel to the train line, 5minute walk to station.
To the front of the property is a little paved area with bench and is a sun trap, which is rare to have a nice outside in Whitby that isn’t a small yard.
We thought it was a great price considering the location and size of the property, we would defiantly return.

The only niggles I can mention are the blinds in the bedrooms, they are cream and paper thin, didn’t block any light out whatsoever so from 5am we were all awake, also walls are stained and marked and sofa is very stained.

Marie

16/07/2022

Location fantastic, facilities were exceptional, enjoyable stay.

We had an elderly parent with us that stayed in the basement so either a toilet on that floor level or a hand rail at top of stairs so they can get to toilet in safety would have been perfect.

property was comfortable, well set out.

The parking does not exist on a busy weekend. we waited for an hour to unload, then parked a 10 min walk away. My first phone call to customer services was not helpful at all. the second time more successful. The kitchen was not well equipped for cooking for a group, also limited worktop space, the washing machine and dryer facilities shouldn’t be listed. they are old and filthy, due to being in a shed. Some cleaning overlooked, like place mats etc but all in all good.

This house was the perfect stay for me and my friends. It was so spacious, the beds were super comfy, all together a lovely house. The kitchen was quite well equipped. The house was a few minutes walk from the centre of the town, which made it really easy to explore Whitby. The view of the town was beautiful from the windows, with the boats and abbey on show. There are shops very close by which made it the perfect location. Parking was really accessible, we never struggled to park near the house. I would really recommend this to anyone. 12/08/2021

A well presented and spacious house with some good features such as Sky Q, a well equipped kitchen, lovely decor and great size bathroom. The cleanliness was to a high standard and location good being close enough to town with an easy walk. Parking proved difficult sometimes at busy times in the town but ok on quieter days. If it lacks, it is probably due to finishing touches which would make it feel more lived in , and facilities to make life easier when you are a family of four, with teenage kids staying for over a week. Having no wardrobes, limited storage and no mirrors in the bedrooms made it difficult to e.g. dry hair or do makeup etc in the bedrooms and didn’t feel like a home from home.

Sally

04/06/2021

We arrived at Osbourne House with four kids in tow to find a carrier bag containing broken glass on the property’s door step. Once inside we could see the house was dirty. We found hairs on the toilet seat, and even in the fridge. The bins outside where full to overflowing, the pots / pans / glasses / utensils were all dirty and the grill had dirty tin foil covering it. The dining table had been wiped with a dirty cloth and was greasy, as were the kitchen worktops. The house in general smelt greasy - not helped by the filthy staircase which hadn’t seen a vacuum cleaner in weeks. I took photos of all of these things and forwarded them to the host, who states in the property description that they have a typical response time of an hour. Three hours later, we’re sat in a local fish and chip restaurant, tired and fed up, still waiting on a response as to whether they will send a cleaner round so we could check in properly and unpack. Eventually we were told we could either have a full refund and go home ( not an option - this was our only family holiday this year and we had booked fishing trips, days out etc, ) or they would indeed send a cleaner out. We opted for the cleaner who arrived the next day while we were out. On our return the house had been cleaned but the pots and pans etc, had not. I had to scrub the ones I needed before I could use them to make dinner. Again, photos were forwarded on to the host. We, at this point were so unimpressed, we asked for compensation due to how much this property had cost us to rent for the week. Prices that we could see had been significantly raised from the previous year by several hundred pounds due to the current high demand while people are unable to travel abroad because of Covid, which makes the state of the place even more unforgivable considering the importance of hygiene in minimising the risk of possible infection. After numerous emails back and forth we were offered a £300 refund and were told that this was the cut off. We accepted knowing that money was clearly more important to the property’s owners than the customers wellbeing and that was as good as we were going to get. So overall, not a luxurious property on any level, not clean and massively overpriced. Never again.

Home Truths

Osborne House has four floors so guests will need to climb several sets of stairs within the property.

Free on street parking is available but this is a few moments from the property.

The living area is located on a higher level, rather than the ground floor.

Some of the rooms have sloped ceilings and exposed beams so we ask guests to mind their head when navigating around the room.
