Property Details

The Space
You’ll find a bright and spacious feel throughout Simon Howe Lodge. With an exposed apex ceiling and large windows, the open plan living, kitchen and dining room is certainly impressive. The perfect place to unwind on an evening, you can turn on the flat screen TV and relax on the comfy leather sofa. Open the patio doors and you’ll find a terrace area with outdoor seating so you can relax outside during your stay.

Ultra modern, the kitchen cabinets are matte grey with high gloss worktops. Fully equipped, you can make the most of your self-catering stay and prepare home cooked meals easily.

Simon Howe Lodge boasts two stylish bedrooms on the ground floor. The master bedroom benefits from a comfy king size bed and an ensuite shower room. Ideal for families, the second bedroom is a twin. Both rooms have plush bedding and premium bed linens to ensure you have the best night sleep possible. The family bathroom is also located on the ground floor and has a bathtub, shower, WC and basin.

Neighborhood
If you’re looking for a relaxing break, you’ll get the best of both worlds when staying at Egton. This quaint village is perfect for walks and picnics. Head to Egton Bridge, Arncliffe Woods or the river where you can head over small stepping stones to the wooded island. If you’re looking to eat out or enjoy a quiet drink, there are two public houses in Egton - the Wheatsheaf and the Horseshoe.

Egton is located just six miles from the seaside town of Whitby on the North Yorkshire coast. Popular for its Blue Flag West Cliff beach and promenade, the whole family can enjoy a day on the golden sands. Head to Pier Road, you’ll find fun arcades and plenty of fish restaurants where you can sample the catch of the day.

The other side of Whitby is full of narrow, medieval streets dotted with boutiques and pubs. Climb the famous 199 steps up to the Church of Saint Mary. You can also discover the renowned ruined Whitby Abbey, which was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s gothic novel ‘Dracula’.

Getting Around
Egton has great rail and bus links to Whitby. Northern Rail operates a train to Whitby five times per day which is a short 22 minute journey. Whitby train station is in the centre of Whitby so villages and towns along the North Yorkshire coast can easily be reached via rail from here too.

Alternatively, you can hop on the Arriva North East bus service from Egton which travels three times a day.

By car the journey from Egton to Whitby takes approximately 12 minutes along the A171.

We have a lovely stay, really nice clean and tidy lodge. Only downside was the initial confusion from host about number of dogs staying. Throughout the booking i stated we would be taking two dogs. However, we received a message the day before stating that only one dog is allowed to stay. I replied and the issue was resolved and we took two dogs. We were also disappointed the log fire didn’t work. Apart from that it was a lovely stay and we could book again.

Great place to stay very relaxing, lovely to see the birds and deers there was even a hedgehog. Parking for two cars and everything you could wish for in the kitchen, the beds were comfy even slept on the sofa one night that’s was comfy too, very home from home, there’s a small shop on site for essentials. Local pub food was amazing especially the post gate at Egton. Defo recommend and will be going again next year.

The lodge was excellent and the location was just what we wanted. The only downfall was the lodge alarm went off at 06:00 in the morning and the code had not been given to us!<br/>We tried calling Host and Stay but had to call for over 30 minutes before someone answered, they then said they would get back to us with the alarm code. We waited 5 minutes and they did call back but gave us an incorrect alarm code. They then asked us to contact the site to get the correct code!<br/>The site arrived after 45 minutes and reset the alarm. I don’t think we were flavour of the month with the neighbours!<br/>Other than the alarm and a few minor niggles we LOVED IT!!!!

Thank you for our peaceful and pleasant stay. It was fab to be lost in the woods away from the normal hustle and bustle of life. Cabin had everything you needed for the stay. Comfortable beds, and TV that had all channels and on demand applications. Thank you

We did have a huge worry the day prior to or stay. we were initially told we were allowed 2 dogs to be told the day before arrival that we could only take 1 dog. this panicked me but luckily the owner of the site sorted out the issue and it was fine. but please make sure you double check before you go

Sadly had to contact Host & Stay and sent them pictures of uncleaned glass & touch points. Kitchen was not clean, cupboards had visible marks all over, oven was dirty, bin had drip marks down it. Splash back area was all marked. Placemat had dried in egg on it. Bedroom was really dusty all along skirting. Check the top of the bathroom cabinet as dust was so think you could write in it. Chips on plates in kitchen. Paint work could be doing with a refresh. Cupboard for cleaning at the front door really smells - not very nice. Cleaner cane out and cleaned windows of all the dirty finger mark's from who had stayed previously, wiped touch points but still did not clean oven or bin or dust. Very poor.

This is a really beautiful place set in safe parkland for the kids and actually located in the woods!! Very well equipped and its a proper built lodge not just 2 caravans bolted together so very spacious and well furnished. Lots to do and see in the North Yorkshire National Park or on the Yorkshire coast. Whitby and Robin Hoods bay are particularly nice places to visit. Very, very peaceful - could only just hear the boiler so that must have been fixed!

The Lodge is set on a wonderful site. Easy to find. The Lodge is well equipped. Many a hot tub would have been even better as we saw there was space for one. A little pricey for 4 nights but not so bad split with other guests. Very open and lots of room.

The lodge is in a fantastic location close to Whitby. The immediate surroundings are lovely and peaceful in amongst the trees. The lodge is a really good size, nice and cosy and well equipped.<br/><br/>The heating is incredibly noisy as it is located above one of the bedrooms, there was constant knocking sounds from the ceiling on the first night as the heating had been left on all night, got no sleep at all. They sent a maintenance man out the following day, which was great, and he put it onto a timer so at least it wasn’t noisy all night. However it was still banging until about 11pm and started again at 6.30am, which woke us up. This has been a complaint from previous reviews and not addressed, which is disappointing, especially when you have chosen such a peaceful location to stay in, you expect to be able to sleep. The gas fire also didn’t work the first night, but the maintenance man fixed this for us the following day.

The lodge is in a fantastic location in amongst the trees, only 15 minutes away from Whitby, so a great base to set off from. Inside it is really spacious and cosy, with everything you could need. However, the heating is very noisy, with pipes banging and knocking all night, the boiler is above one of the bedrooms. In fairness to the management company they sent a maintenance guy out the following day who turned it onto a timer so at least the heating shut off between 11pm and 6.30am, when you get woken up by it again! Particularly when other people have mentioned this in reviews before and it has not been sorted. No compensation for not being able to sleep at all during the first night, not ideal when you have chosen a place that is meant to be peaceful, and have had a long drive and things planned the next day. I think as others have said in reviews it would be nice if check in was at 3pm instead of 4 especially when check out is 10am. In winter you are arriving in the dark, so the accommodation is quite hard to find, especially when they link to the map they sent me just takes you to the entrance of lady cross not the lodge itself.

James

17/10/2023

Facilities and comfort of the lodge, well equipped, quality fixtures and fitting (with the exception of the blinds) books, dvd’s etc for entertainment.<br/><br/>I contacted host and stay to ask if we could leave our car somewhere on/near the site before check in time, however the call handler wasn’t very helpful. However, when I contacted the receptionist team at the site they were brilliant. <br/>Also, lack of wildlife, particularly birds.

Until 8 years ago, my parents had a seasonal pitch at Ladycross. It was lovely to return this weekend to see what a great job has been done of the lodges. The whole site remains peaceful and unspoilt, the perfect place to relax and unwind.<br/>The lodge itself is one of the best I've stayed in. Spacious, with lots of natural light. Although the neighbours are nearby, the lodges are not overlooked and feel private. There was a good choice of essentials in the kitchen and bathroom - no need to pack washing up liquid and hand soap etc, as it was all provided.<br/>Typically, it was unseasonably warm for October, so we didn't use the log burner to full affect, but I couldn't think of anything nicer than to cosy up in front of it on a chilly evening.<br/>My only slight gripe is the check-in and check-out times. 4pm and 10am seem quite late/early. I appreciate the work involved in turning the lodges round, but 3pm and 11am would be a little more palatable. <br/>We will definitely book again

Simon Howe Lodge is the perfect home from home, it’s exactly as pictured, in a beautiful surrounding with a lovely walk around the grounds and less than 10 minute drive to Whitby centre. It’s the most well equipped lodge we’ve ever stayed in, it has everything you could possibly need unlike other places we’ve stayed before! Would 100% recommend to anyone.

19/07/2023

Everything was spotless, well appointed, with everything we needed for our stay. The only complaint is that an amount of £250 deposit was removed from our account and we were charged £10 (non refundable) for the privilege. I have never come across this before and it felt penny pinching considering how much we paid for the accommodation.

Harry

27/06/2023

We had a perfect stay. The location couldn’t be better as the lodge is surrounded by trees and very well-placed for trips to the coast. The area was really peaceful and full of wildlife, we saw a deer on our first morning and chickens, hares and toads around the site. The lodge had everything we needed and the enclosed communal field on the site was great for our dog to run around in.

Lovely lodge. The "log burner" is a gas fire (very realistic though) it wouldn't light when we arrived but spoke with Host and Stay who contacted owner who sent somebody to sort it whilst we were out on day 2. Beds were very comfortable, we had a lovely stay. I don't agree with the extra "insurance" fee that Host and Stay ask for, we have stayed in dozens of air b n bs and have never been asked for this. I would recommend the lodge, there were 4 adults in our group and we were very comfortable.

Stunning property, would love to come back again. Great location for access to surrounding areas. The only slight let down is the property wasn’t thoroughly cleaned throughout, minimal things like dust, hairs, dirty mirrors/hob etc which for what we’ve paid could have been avoided. <br/>Would still strongly recommend.

What a beautiful lodge well<br/>Equipped! Loved loved it. <br/>EXCEPT THE HUMAN AND DOG HAIR ON THE BED!! Also the heating woke us up every morning! Not sure what was wrong with it. It came from the loft. We were refunded £30 for this which I thought was so unfair. We would have loved to have gone back but we won’t as I don’t think they handled our complaint fairly. For personal reasons this break was so important for RR. I felt it was spoilt because of these issues we had.

The lodge was in a lovely woodland setting, it was quiet and a nice caravan park. The location was ideal as it was really close to get to Whitby and the coastal villages for a great day out. And then close enough to get to York!<br/><br/>Nothing that the hosts could do, but nature can sometimes be a bit noisy - some scratching from wildlife at night woke us and our dog up, but, this was nature so not within the hosts control!

Location was beautiful, lodge was laid out nice. Awful smell in the main bathroom of sewage which we weren’t made aware of. Stiff bath tap which we were made aware of. Security of location was great and ideal for local walks or to Whitby. Quite a late check in considering it’s made such an early check out when you feel rushed to get out by 10am. Was sent a text at 9am with a fairly to the point text making sure we were out on time.<br/>Over all lovely place that’s pet friendly with a homely feel.

James

05/12/2022

The lodge was very nice<br/><br/>The bath was out of action and the woman who came out due to getting through the car barrier was abrupt, as I hadn't been emailed the barrier code, probably not what you need after a 2.5 hr car journey, and 1st impressions, apart from that the lodge and whitby are really nice places to visit.

The property was adequate but the code given for the gate didn't work. <br/>The oven was dirty and my wife had to clean before use. <br/>The toaster was so badly made up with previous crumbs it set off the smoke alarm. <br/>The fires pilot light was not working in the fire the guy onsite came out and managed after a bit of fiddling to get it lit. <br/>The site was clean but the secure dog field had a broken fence. <br/>The site had swapped hands and the welcome pack was a bottle of milk and three dishwasher tablets no eggs as other guests commented but this is run by host and stay now,as we found out not made clear when booking. <br/>They sent several messages to us on site mainly to tell us that we had to vacate the property by 10 am on our final day not very customer friendly and certainly not helpful. <br/>We also found out that at the edge of the forest a Mine shaft and workings were being sunk to serve the new potash mine South of Whitby. <br/>This was not highlighted when booking all in all a mediocre experience. <br/>You should seriously have words with host and stay they are poor customer orientated company and the property is no where near 5 star and the rate is smiles too high you pay I will now think twice before booking through you again!<br/><br/>See above comments a poor over priced venue which faces problems from the mine developments!

We stayed here for 2 nights at the end of November to celebrate a birthday and anniversary. The location is beautiful. The lodge was exactly as described, and extremely comfortable. It was clean and welcoming. We made use of wonderful gas log burner which was perfect due to the cold temperatures outside. It was so cosy!! The check in process was very straightforward and we got a warm welcome. We would definitely like to return in the spring and would also recommend to family/friends.

This place was an absolute gem! The lodge is set within a very peaceful area surrounded by trees and would suit anyone looking for a getaway from the hustle and bustle of every day life. The Lady Cross site is quite remote and I would say that having a car is essential if you're wanting to go off an explore. But with that remoteness comes tranquility! The lodge is very well stocked and feels really cosy despite being a really good size. The roaming chickens in the morning were also a lovely addition. Our stay here was wonderful and I'm sure we'll be back in the future.
