Second stay at this cottage. Lovely location and is clean and comfortable. New enclosed garden which would think is great for dogs except not allowed to do their business on the new gravel and stones so had to still put dog on lead and take out which was an inconvenience late at night. Would have been nice for dog to roam since it’s a dog friendly property.

Eight nights at The Beacon and didn’t want to leave. So quiet with the occasional passing sheep saying hello but on the edge of the village so not far from familiar Heartbeat locations. Great to meet the owner briefly who has a house next door. Both the Goathland “Aidensfield” Arms and the Mallyan Hotel (across the road from The Lodge) have very good bar meals and the cottage has a very well equipped kitchen. The cottage is modern and comfortable inside with two decent sized bedrooms with moorland views. Plenty of power sockets thoughtfully placed. The bathroom was spotless. The two or four steps up into it depending on where you are coming from might be an issue for some as might stepping into the in bath shower. Several walks from outside the cottage including the valley where the Mallyan Spout Waterfall decends, the North Yorkshire Moors railway is 20 minutes walk the other side of the village for trips to Pickering and Whitby, or take the 840 bus from across the road.
