Such a cozy and warm little apartment! Loved the character and great views of Whitby! Very comfy bed, clean towels and great kitchenette. Even higher rating that we could bring our dog with us!

nothing bad to say really! Apart from couldn’t find more bin bags or anti bacterial spray!

Was a decent stay, felt quite homely and was good for a couple of nights.
The faux plants were really dusty though and the bath had hairs in, so I would have given 5* had the flat been more thoroughly cleaned, but other than that it was a good stay.

because it was close and that's it

what I can say about the apartment is that you pay what you need and what you have to pay an additional 25 f, and I don't understand why, there was a lot of stress, because when the e-mail arrived, we had to write 25 f, because if not, we won't get the code for the key to the apartment , so it's better to read the reviews first, because it's hidden, unfortunately..

The loft is a lovely flat very comfortable very clean, comfortable bed good amenities oven kettle microwave toaster and two electric hobs so you can cook a meal. Also lovely views of the abby and a short walk into the centre.

It's a loft so if your unsteady on your legs or have problems walking then this is not for you as there's a few flights of stairs to clime. Also I'm tall and had a bit of trouble with the low ceilings especially in the bathroom and I did bang my head on a few occasions so bare that if your tall.

Great if you're 4ft
anything over that you're going to cut or bump you're head.
plus you have 68 stairs to climb to your door.
Great views from the property.

Nice little apartment

ceilings bit low but it was last minute booking so booked it as it was only for 2 nights

Great location with some lovely views across Whitby. Easy to find and get in the property, and it is decorated well inside. Overall, a useful property for a short, last minute trip where alternatives are limited at such late notice.

The very low ceilings were a problem - even us at 5 foot 7 were somewhat uncomfortable crouching around the property for 2 days. Furthermore, there was no coffee, no toilet roll, and only a handful of tea bags, so be prepared to either bring all your own essentials or go to the shop (which are close by). Finally, we think the additional £25 damage waiver fee (or the £250 deposit, which has a £10 'admin' fee) was a form of penny pinching as surely the property is insured anyway?

Location is excellent and is why i booked it.
I needed something in that area. I knew it was small and what you see is what you get. Read all the info and reviews, its all there, stairs and all.the company handling the property were really good. Answered queries and responded quickly.

Not a comfortable bed but does okay as you're exhausted from all the stairs! Very awkward to use the microwave or toaster due to the sloped ceiling but it is possible. One thing i really dont get is why, when there is a large bathroom, do you install the smallest sink I've ever come across. Its a tiny cloakroom sink. Loads of space for a normal size sink which would be way handier.

I booked 2 nights at The Loft for my daughter & partner after doing Coast 2 Coast, they were looking forward to this after walking/camping for 2 weeks. Didn't notice $450 bond when booking , I am in Australia so she had to pay it..they're backpackers..still waiting for that to be refunded minus the $30 admin fee..for what? all the excessively annoying emails? The place wasn't very clean in spite of the high cleaning fee $96, 4 tea bags for 2 people, milk was off, no shampoo or body wash, shower fixture broken, rangehood broken, corkscrew broken, they couldn't even open the wine bottle! I would not recommend this apartment and I would also avoid booking thru 3rd party agencies on Airbnb in future, should not charge bond, Airbnb have insurance. Terrible property and terrible booking agency, Host and Stay! I host an Airbnb, my guests are treated to a beautiful clean property, fully stocked with everything required in working order, this place is a disgrace in comparison to what we offer.

Easy to access keys.
We parked about 10 minute walk away where we found free parking.
Generally clean and tidy - yes ceilings were low but we expected this when we had booked an attic apartment. (Even with one of us 6ft.5!) we did well to not bang our heads!
View was brilliant of the church and abbey. We had attended a wedding at the church so was lovely to look at the view.
Generally, provided us everything we needed.
Yes lots of stairs - no good for people who aren’t as able but we didn’t mind for the exercise!

This was the WORST bed I have ever slept on. I joked and said the bench on the seafront would have been comfier.
This was a massive let down for this location and really spoilt it for us.
I would have given our stay more of a generous 8/10 but the bed really really let it down. Made me dread going to sleep. This was very disappointing!!!
An air mattress would have been comfier.
I didn’t feel that the place was worth the money we spent.
Especially when you need a good night sleep and it spoilt the holiday with how bad the bed was.
I even read the previous reviews regarding the bed, so took a thick sleeping blanket to lay over the mattress to try and help the comfort… this did not improve it.
This place is alright if you’re staying for just 1 night but 3 nights was far far far too many on that really horrific bed! Glad to be home now on our comfy beds!
I wouldn’t book here again because of this issue alone.

the location was good and the view was great and the decor good, very tasteful, The location is very good, just the right distance away from the amenities/town centre.

there were stains on the walls in the hallway, there were alot of steps up to the room, the bed was uncomfortable, and the flat wasnt cleaned properly. The toilet had not been cleaned and was full of poo and it took 3 flushes to clear it

It was in a good position to access the beach or the town.
Very comfortable bed

Was very dusty and didn't look like it had been cleaned bathroom mirror looked like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks the lock on the door broke and although it got fixed straight away I was worried It would break again .

Great location! Nice and modern looking flat, overall very clean and has plenty of facilities to cook!

It’s a lot smaller than it looks so you hit your head a lot on the beams. The bed had hairs in it and there was a note left for us that we are to strip the bed ourselves before we leave (even though you’re expected to be out by 10 or you will be charged) the mattress was also very hard so it wasn’t a comfortable sleep. We were only there two nights but were given less than one roll of toilet roll so we had to go and buy our own. If you go in the summer it’s very hot so a fan would have been appreciated. It’s a late check in and early check out (check in 4pm check out 10am). Overall it wasn’t value for money, I’ve stayed in much more accommodating air bnbs/apartments which let you arrive earlier and check out later and don’t expect you to clean and strip the beds before leaving.

The rooms are lovely and set out really well with wonderful views of whitby

The mattress was so uncomfortable we hardly slept are whole stay because of it and having no curtains in the bedroom didn't help either and the sides could of been cleaned better as the bedroom one was very dusty

Easy key collection

Too many stairs. I knew there were a few but it is a proper slog and I certainly wouldn't do it again. The stairs is a massive thing which is not advertised until you do some digging. I wouldn't have booked if I had read more into it so that was my fault. As with previous comments, the shower is totally useless and shouldn't be there, there should be blinds on the velux windows, this has been noted in many, many previous reviews and the hosts have responded saying it would be looked at but certainly has not. The freezer part of the fridge is totally inaccessible and could be easily fixed by someone defrosting it!

Good location, close to town, beach and harbour. Well equipped apartment, comfortable furnishings. Parking very close by was free due to it being winter. Pets accepted and it was fine for our small dog (just remember the 78 steps down and up again to let them out before bed!!)

Compulsory extra fee for insurance - either £25 for policy or £10 admin fee if paying damage deposit. This should be mentioned on booking.com (no mention not even in fine print as at Dec22/Jan23)
Description should also make it clearer that this is the loft of a very tall building - 78 steps from pavement to living area.
We were unable to use the ice compartment of the fridge as it was totally iced shut with a considerable amount of solid ice that was not budging. I note that a review from July22 also mentions this! (we had hoped to be able to make ice for our drinks as staying several nights including New Years Eve)
Headroom was an issue, particularly in the bathroom, didn't expect it to be as I'm only 5ft 4, but I discovered that there was only a very small area directly inside the door where I could stand up straight. I think the description should be clearer about this - it is not easy to tell from photos.
The handle on the bathroom door needs attention, again I see that mentioned on a previous review.
There are no blinds on any of windows - not a problem for 3 of them, and didn't bother us staying in December but would definitely be a problem during summer months as the window is directly above the bed, and there is no way of keeping light out of the room.

We stayed here with our dog as his first Beech holiday and had a really nice time in Whitby. The apartment was easy to get to, get the keys and was really nice and clean. The location for us was perfect as once you came out of the front door you were within site of a green for our dog. The green also had a little cafe which was open late for us to get a drink and ice cream before we headed up to the apartment. As well as this the apartment was in a easy location for the beech and to the center of Whitby.

The apartment needed a little bit of tlc as one of the doors almost got stuck due to a dodgy door handle. Also I'm 6 foot 5 and struggled in the shower so we had baths all week instead.

Easy key pick up and entry. The place was clean and tidy, and nicely decorated. Basic kitchen with utensils etc. Location was brilliant, 5 minute walk into town and down to the beach. Parking was free but not provided by the host. I stayed in winter so not as busy but can imagine in summer parking could be a bit of a pain.

If you’re over 5ft watch your head in the bathroom. Not a bad point really it’s just the way the building is. Nothing that should be considered held against the host.

01/11/2022

This property is tiny and the ceiling is so low, I am amazed it meets building requirements. It is only possible to stand up right in the middle.
Because of the height of the ceiling, it isn’t easy to shower standing up or to sit on the loo without bumping head. The kitchen is not fully useable because the microwave is tucked in a little low corner.
There are 5 flights of stairs to get to the property.
On arrival, the key code did not work, so had to wait for someone to sort it out.
Won’t be staying again!

had a wonderful stay at the loft. property is in a perfect location for discovering Whitby, didn’t use the car all weekend. parked in the pay and display at the end of the street as a lot closer than other suggested car parks. the loft was nice and clean upon our arrival

would suggest that there is reference made about the heights of the ceilings on booking.com as not ideal for people over 5’2 as very low. Bed is comfy however short in length, again not good for tall people. would be better if there was a blind in the bedroom especially as light comes straight in through sky light currently. The stairwell leading to the property could do with a clean / refresh, biscuits on the floor and things up the walls.

the loft apartment was well presented, modern and stylish.

the roof windows did not come with blinds. so we were unable to block light coming into the bedroom early morning. This is a loft conversion and so the position of the shower wasn’t the greatest. I’m 6ft 2, my partner is 5ft 3 and she had to bend to take a shower.

Beautiful apartment very smart decor good communication with host and stay . Loved the fact they left milk and scrummy biscuits ?? There are lovely sea and abbey views from the windows . Bed very comfortable. There was everything you would need for your stay hairdryer iron ironing board etc . There's no getting away from the fact of low beams in the apartment it is the very top of building so going to have low beams but they have done a wonderful job at designing it and it certainly didn't affect our stay top marks from me for the apartment ? . Only thing I would say is there are a lot of stairs to climb up to the apartment so not suitable for people with mobility issues . It's located on the same street as Botham's so big bonus and everything is so close

31/07/2022

Location was great, decor is quite nice, and everything was clean, views were lovely.

I'm only 5 foot 7 and could barely stand up straight in the bathroom. Conked my head several times on the low beams in bathroom and living room. It just would be good to know in advance that if you're above average height you're going to be a bit uncomfortable. Lots of stairs up...can't be helped but again, not really emphasised in the ad. No shower, only a bath with a shower-hose attachment...I mean it wouldn't be possible to stand up to wash anyway. Quite stingy with tea, coffee, sugar and toilet paper - these are such cheap things that make a difference - I've stayed in many cheaper places that had a nespresso machine or similar. Pretty big stain on living room rug. Lots of expectations in the guest info book about leaving the place clean. For approx £100 per night I was a bit disappointed.

Jennifer

25/07/2022

Very clean. Centrally located. Box of cookies and milk on arrival, nice touch.

Couldnt leave windows open due to seagulls. Was asked to remove bedding before leaving, considering we had paid over £90 per night thought it was a little cheeky. Communal areas were not very clean. The bathroom window had finger prints on i.e. where CSI had checked for finger prints, so was little concered about break ins due to the scaffolding in place. This was also evident on one of the landings in the communal area.

location

they don’t explain how many flights of stairs you have to go up & with a child it’s not ideal. soon as you walk through the second door searching for a light switch in the pitch black. Then the railing on the stairway isn’t 100% sturdy. To come into the studio flat no air conditioning had to bring my own fan and having to watch your head every time not to bump it on the wooden beams. No blinds for the windows in any of the rooms. The door flap to the freezer inside the fridge didn’t open we couldn’t use that. The shower In the bathroom wasn’t strong at all you can’t stand to shower & to wash & brush your teeth in front of the mirror is affected by bumping into the wooden beams. Could see the dusting hadn’t been done properly for a while. Definitely not ideal with a child.

Clean, fully equipped, comfortable bed, quirky. Excellent location.

Low roof and we didn't regard it as luxurious. Im only 5'5 and had to duck in the bathroom. A taller person would of refused to stay there i think. Velux windows cud do with a blackout blind as its above the bed and too light from 3am onwards. Loads of stairs, not suitable for anyone with a disability or walking issues.

It was a shame that the water was freezing, I had to buy pliers to carry out a repair on the bath so that the shower was usable, the tv didn’t work, showing “audio programme” when using the normal freebies channels and cutting out when trying to use smart tv. Door latch was hit and miss and long dark hairs in the bath and on a pillow, also near the kettle.
Good points where the biscuits were a nice touch, the Heaters got warm very quickly and the response times (bar one) were quick, although nothing was done about it.
Although the flat was very sweet, I would be inclined to not stay again due to the above

This property is managed by Host & Stay North Yorkshire, who were excellent in their communication throughout (including resolving queries and verifying paperwork etc). The loft was clean and the bed very comfy. However, the building itself was not completely secure as the front door of the building does not lock. Equally, the loft is very small and the ceilings very low. I was expecting this, however I am 5ft 8 and had to crouch at all times in the bathroom. Equally, no information on heating was provided. As the loft has storage heaters, these take quite a few hours to heat up, so our first evening and morning were very cold ones. Perhaps the management company could turn them on before guests arrive. As noted by previous guests, the blinds are rather useless, so if you need the dark to sleep, bring a sleeping mask! Towels are provided, but apart from hand soap there are no toiletries (such as shower gel).

We had a lovely stay here for a long weekend, had everything we needed in a great location!

Like others have said, it could do with a little refresh, as it’s obviously a popular property which is used often, but it was comfortable space for a couple and a little dog, and would stay again if we headed over for another weekend.

Tip, bring an eye mask as there is no blackout blind in the bedroom, so is very bright in the morning. Luckily, we brought some with us as we have been caught out before at Airbnb properties!

I’m sorry to say this, but this was a terrible Airbnb experience. So… my boyfriend and I arrived at the property (which was pretty difficult to find, and we had to ring the property owners to help us find it) and there was no key left for us in the lock box. We were told we could go to somewhere nearby and get a meal £15 per head as an apology while we waited for a maintenance person to come and drop off a spare set. We were told he would arrive within the hour. It was around 19:30 by this point and we’d arrived at about 18:50.
We then went somewhere and waited approximately an hour and a half. No one had contacted us, so we thought we would ring to check if the key had been dropped off. We were then told that a key hadn’t been dropped off, and they were instead going to send us to a second property down the road instead (I’m not sure if this maintenance person was ever coming and whether this was actually a lie?) This was at around 21:30.
We went to the second property which was just down the road. This was also quite hard to find, especially because it was dark by this point. Eventually we found the flat and let ourselves in, only to find that it was a building site and it was in the process of being decorated. There were paint pots everywhere, no furnitere whatsover, ladders, tools etc all over the flat. By this point it was nearly 22:00; we contacted them to inform them of this, and they then offered to send us to a third place to stay. However, by this point it was past 22:00 and we weren’t gonna allow them to potentially disappoint us again. Therefore, we decided to not waste anymore time and book somewhere for the night.
Anyway, we managed to check in somewhere else at around 22:30, and were told the next day we could check in at the original property at 11:00, which we were relieved about.
So, we checked in, and although the place was okay on first appearances, we realised that the heating didn’t work (which wasn’t ideal considering it was freezing) and we couldn’t have a proper shower due to the ceiling being so low (we had to sit in the bath to shower). There was a hole in the ceiling above the shower that blew cold air out as well.
All in all, for an Airbnb that cost £111 per night, we were extremely disappointed. Me and my boyfriend really are not the sort of people to ever complain, however I’m hoping that they won’t be able to disappoint anyone else. Although they offered to refund us for one night and pay for our meal, we don’t feel this justified how bad it really was.
Saying all this, the flat was in a good location and the person who I spoke with called Hannah was as helpful as she could be about the situation, and was very apologetic. Needless to say, I would not recommend this flat and would, personally, definitely advise against booking here.

We were given misleading directions for check in and ended up locked out in a storm for nearly 40 minutes. Found the flat to be dusty and pokey, with insects in the bathtub. Heating in main room did not work and hot water ran out. Staff at Host and Stay were very helpful and understanding. They called an engineer out to resolve heating issues, which we were grateful for. If this had been more of a budget stay we would have been fine with the standard, however, for the amount we paid we felt extremely disappointed and let down.

The views from the room were brilliant, the bed was incredibly comfortable, and it was lovely to see that we'd been left a small bottle of milk, some tea bags, coffee and sugar to help settle in.

Due to the beams across the ceiling across the apartment, there was repeated head hitting as they're easily forgotten in a sleepy state, you couldn't stand up straight if you wanted to use anything in the bathroom. While the bath was great for a bath, it was really awkward to use for a shower as you can't have the shower head on the wall, nor can use it without soaking all the floor.
The living room would get really cold and the radiator in there wouldn't work, the radiator/towel rack didn't stay warm for long in the bathroom either.
My final gripe was that on the oven, there's a piece of wood that has been screwed in too high just underneath, so everything you try to open the oven door, it would hits the wood and won't open fully.

Lovely little place to stay, not too far away from the centre of Whitby but far enough away to be quiet. Parking wasn’t an issue at all. The extra steps up to ‘The Loft’ after the 199 up the Abbey were occasionally a challenge!

the process was Easy the loft was spotless and homely all appliances were there( I didn't use any as we ate out) There was a helpful guide to Whitby in a binder and WiFi was connected too. All in all a great location and central to the town .

A very clean and well stocked flat, perfect for exploring Whitby and the surrounding area.
Check in was very easy with a key safe at the side of the main entrance steps. The instructions were very clear and communication by email was continued throughout our stay
The 80 or so steps up to the flat took some getting use to but was needed after all the fish and chips and icecream we had eaten!
The flat is in the loft space of the building, so the ceilings are very low, especially in the bathroom. I'm only 5'4" and I struggled at times to move around without hitting my head.

Modern, cosy top floor flat in a great location, right next to the whale bone arch and sea front. Worth noting that the ceilings are very low in places, so it might be a bit uncomfortable for tall people. Well furnished and has great views of the abbey!

We had a fabulous stay. Loved the location it is so central to the centre of Whitby. The flat was spotlessly clean. Loved the modern decor and furnishings. Very well equipped with everything you could need., including cleaning products. Would definitely recommend
