Neighborhood
The village of Stainsacre lies just to the south of Whitby, making it a good location for a cottage holiday away from the hustle and bustle of the town. Stainsacre is home to the welcoming Windmill pub and the village is just a two-mile walk or drive into Whitby.
The coastal town of Whitby has something special and has long been popular with visitors to Yorkshire’s Coast, owing to its delightful harbour, which is surrounded by pretty houses, restaurants and fun things to do. All this splendour is overlooked by historic Whitby Abbey.
Visitors can stroll along the harbour walls, from where seals, dolphins and porpoises can be seen as little fishing boats chug by. A boat ride is highly recommended.
The Captain Cook Memorial Museum, in the house where Cook once lived, displays paintings and maps. The abbey ruin at the top of the East Cliff is the town’s oldest and most prominent landmark. Other significant features include the swing bridge, which crosses the River Esk and the harbour, which is sheltered by the grade II listed East and West piers.
The town’s maritime heritage is commemorated by statues of Captain Cook and William Scoresby and the whalebone arch at the top of the West Cliff.
Getting Around
Whitby Train Station is in the town centre and offers direct rail access to Hartlepool, Hexham, Middlesbrough, Newcastle, Prudhoe, Seaham, Stockton, Sunderland and Thornaby.
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway can also be enjoyed from Whitby, so you’ll be able to visit the peaceful villages of Goathland, Grosmont and Levisham, along with the market town of Pickering.
The 95 bus route can be found operating close by, providing quick and easy access to the centre of Whitby. From there, direct routes can be found operating to Guisborough, Leeds, Loftus, Malton, Middlesbrough, Pickering, Redcar, Saltburn, Scarborough and York.
Teesside International Airport is 47 miles away from Stainsacre.

Overall the property was very well kept, clean and tidy. The bedrooms have a really relaxing feel with very comfortable beds, the shower room was lovely and warm and working exactly as it should, these are probably the most important things for us when we book a stay away, a good shower to help relax and a great nights sleep, and the owners have got that perfect here. The only thing we felt wasn't ideal for the dark winter was the living room light is on a censor and switches on when it detects the slightest movement and the lights are very bright, we had to hang a scarf over the sensor to stop it turning on while we relaxed and watched TV with the non lit room being a lot more cosy! a lamp not as bright as the main lights would be a great addition. The cottage is situated down a very quiet secluded county lane, you're surrounded entirely by countryside views and peaceful bliss, however Whitby is only a few minutes car journey away, there is plenty of places to visit nearby, it's a great location. We would definitely stay again and likely will.

Spacious and homely farm building in a beautiful area close to Whitby and the moors. The games room was a big hit with the kids.

Our experience with Host & Stay was unfortunately disappointing. After paying over £800 for a three-night stay, we received an email requesting either a £25 non-refundable fee or a £500 deposit for potential damages. This additional charge was not disclosed on the listing page at the time of booking, which was later confirmed by Airbnb. When we raised this with Host & Stay, they insisted the information had been available, but they then removed it after payment, which was confusing and frustrating. Upon arrival at the property, we found it in a concerning state of cleanliness. The fridge was filthy, sinks and baths contained dirt and hair, and the beds had visible stains and hair on the sheets. We contacted Host & Stay, who assured us someone would come to clean the property. Unfortunately, no one arrived, and despite follow-up attempts, our messages were subsequently ignored. Given this experience, we feel unable to recommend Host & Stay and do not plan to book with them in future.

The cottage has been decorated to a high standard and was very comfortable. We loved the games room and our children were thrilled with the TVs in the bedrooms. We liked that the cottage was clutter free and spacious. The views on the way to cottage were stunning. A short drive to Whitby, where we enjoyed exploring the area and the local food was delicious.
