Allendale has been home to the Tar Bar’l festival since 1858, which has seen famous visitors such as poet Philip Larkin. The May Fair and folk festivals give you a chance to experience the valley’s musical heritage, and traditional village activities. With everything from artists' studios to Sci-fi museums, as well as a nearby horse riding centre, Allendale has something for everyone.

Hexham can be found 10 miles away from Allendale Town. This charming town was recently voted England’s favourite market town by Country Life magazine. With great shopping facilities, local inns, restaurants and a buzzing arts scene, there will be plenty for you to discover. If you’re interested in history, head to Hexham Abbey which dates to 674. For those who want a fun day out, Hexham has its own racecourse where you can enjoy the races and incredible views of the rolling countryside too.

Lovely village location.

Poorly equipped kitchen, extremely steep stairs and slippery bath. £250 security deposit with £10 admin fee and constant messaging from host company. No outdoor bin, no recycling facilities and nonsense eco-claims.

Location is great for walking around town.

Floors were quite dirty. Mine fridge in kitchen makes it difficult to cook meals.

Unclean, outside space was disgusting and unsafe. Although told to keep it locked. The kitchen windows were covered due to awful sight outside didn’t want to open windows in case vermin came in. Place needs a good clean and decorative improvement. Would not come again or recommend it

The cottage was beautifully equipped, so very comfy, warm and cosy and very clean. A brilliant home from home to explore this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We also found a wonderful Indian restaurant called The Spice Valley at near by Allen Mill.

Sorry to discover that the two local pubs no longer serve evening meals apart from the weekends.

A beautiful, peaceful place. Would love to return.

The agents initially couldn't track down our booking - it took half a dozen anxious phone calls in the days immediately before we were due to arrive before the situation was resolved. Quite stressful!

Lovely little peaceful cottage, even in the centre of the village!! We had a great few days away. Sadly, the lock box didn't fit the description of use so hindering entry. Despite this irritation, rooms were beautifully clean and our 2 double beds were really comfy. We anticipated there being wood and fuel for the log burner but, after ringing the Agent, who was very helpful, we found, unfortunately that we'd need to buy our own. We also found difficulty accessing the WiFi as the password had the odd digit that could be misread, also, not knowing where the switch for the bathroom radiator was. We were helped with all our queries but we found it frustrating that this information wasn't printed in the online guide book. This is the only Air B&B we've stayed in that asks for a £250 deposit of which one receives a £10 return if no breakages.
Slightly misleading description about the outside patio - there is no outlook, & the seating at the front is a very small bench on the pavement.

Difficult to locate in the dark. Would have been useful to have instruction ‘next to pharmacy’. Cold when we got in. Soon warmed up when we put the heaters on (and fathomed out how to work them). They were the only areas for improvement. Cottage quirky and clean. Comfy bed. Tea, coffee, milk and lovely toiletries provided. Kitchen well equipped if you wanted to self cater. Really handy for village centre and parking easy. Good walking on the doorstep. Sci fi museum worth a look. Good breakfast at the Forge cafe. Indian (Spice Valley) excellent. Really good pub grub at Carts Bog and the Elks Head. Shame the pubs n the village don’t do food (although the Kings Head may start doing so). Host and stay very good at communicating throughout.
