Located in the heart of Durham is 52 Old Elvet. Nestled under the watchful gaze of Durham Cathedral in the city centre, this Grade II listed Georgian building is home to 11 luxury apartments.

52 Old Elvet has welcomed many guests throughout the past 310 years, including Her Majesty the Queen. With timeless elegance and an unparalleled history, this stunning building provides exceptional stays for both business and leisure. Did we mention you can also expect added luxuries such as free parking, WiFi and premium appliances too?

Named after famous Prince Bishops of Durham, let us introduce you to some of the apartments in 52 Old Elvet…

The Barrington @ 52 Old Elvet

First up is The Barrington. Located on the ground floor, this gorgeous one bedroom apartment has tall ceilings and original features.

The large open plan living, dining and kitchen area has a grand and opulent feel. At one end of the room you’ll find the cosy living space which has an impressive marble fireplace, luxury sofa and flat screen TV. At the other side of the room, there is a fully equipped, dove grey, Shaker-style kitchen complete with granite worktops and an island.

From the hallway, you’ll find the bedroom which has been beautifully decorated with premium furnishings and a large, comfortable bed. A luxury shower room is located next door.

The Egerton @ 52 Old Elvet

Boasting its own private entrance at the side of the building, The Egerton is an extravagant two bedroom apartment set within the main block. The discreet front door for The Egerton would have originally been a service entrance leading to a kitchen but the whole property has been transformed inside.

Now it has a striking open plan kitchen, dining and living area. The space features a huge, traditional range, which is thought to be one of only six known ranges still in situ produced and manufactured in Durham. This is balanced perfectly with modern and stylish furnishings.

From the hallway, you’ll find two stylish bedrooms, an ensuite and a bathroom.

The Kirkham @ 52 Old Elvet

Next up is The Kirkham. This delightful apartment is located on the second floor of 52 Old Elvet and boasts sought-after views of Durham Cathedral.

Located at the top of the majestic main staircase at the front of the building, this apartment offers an open plan kitchen, living and dining space as well as two bedrooms and a bathroom. In the first bedroom, you’ll find a comfortable, double bed and the second has twin beds. Stylishly decorated throughout, you’ll notice there is a playful colour palette with pops of bright red, orange and pink.

The Tunstall @ 52 Old Elvet

This beautiful one bedroom apartment is located at the rear of the building. Once used as a meeting point for prominent figures, this space was a purposely-built billiard room. The vast, vaulted room has since been transformed into two apartments (The Tunstall and The Wolsey).

The Tunstall has retained plenty of its original character as it still features the original glass panelled roof which is supported by polished timbers of Art Nouveau style. The apartment has a modern open plan kitchen, living and dining area which is complete with a grey, chaise end sofa and flat screen TV. The bedroom has a comfortable, double bed and the sleek bathroom features a large walk in shower.

The apartment also has stairs which lead up to a cleverly designed upper floor space which is ideal for a study or den.
