Our ESG Strategy

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Strategy, an essential step towards aligning our operations with sustainable and responsible business practice. This strategy encompasses a range of initiatives that will not only reduce our environmental footprint but will also enhance the well-being of the communities we serve and the staff we employ. We believe it’s our duty to review and improve our operations to further benefit the communities we operate in, and to report on these regularly.

This important development is set to positively impact our services and operations of the properties we manage as well as the environment.

We are pushing boundaries to create better places to live, work and stay, and our ESG strategy is an extension of this.

Three Pillars of ESG

ESG comprises of three pillars: environmental, social and governance. All three pillars collectively contribute to effective performance with positive benefits for the wider markets, society and the world as a whole.

At Host & Stay, ESG is deep-rooted in our DNA. It’s part of the way we work with our clients, act in the community, treat our colleagues and operate as a business. Looking ahead, our three areas are as follows;

Improving the sustainability of our managed properties

One of the key elements within our ESG Strategy is to ensure we are identifying and implementing measures to enhance the sustainability of the properties we manage.

To achieve this we’ve created ManageGreen, an initiative led with a conscious effort to do better in four key areas of our operations:

Green accreditation – we’re working with Sustonica, the first sustainability badge and recognition for short term rentals, helping guests find eco-conscious properties.

Energy efficient tech solutions ResiAir is our innovative, smart technology designed to manage your property’s energy use from afar.

Eco-conscious travel guides – guides to ensure guests can make informed eco choices on travel and purchasing when staying in our properties.

Partnerships and carbon offsetting – our partners help us to achieve our goal of replacing products with more eco-conscious options, as well as addressing our carbon footprint, and supporting initiatives such as reforestation in local areas.

Currently our team is conducting thorough assessments of each property under our management, with the aim of identifying specific opportunities for improvement. We are confident that these efforts will not only have a positive impact on the environment but also contribute to long-term cost savings and enhance the overall value of your investment.

Working with our partner Sustonica, we are encouraging our property owners to incorporate a number of sustainability measures where possible, including the following:

Your property has 80%+ of LED bulbs, all windows are double glazed within the property, your property has water efficient toilets and showers.

Research has shown that 76% of travellers are considering sustainability as a key deciding factor when looking to book accommodation next year, with nearly two thirds (65%) expressing that they would feel better about staying at a particular accommodation if they knew it had a sustainable certification or label.

Not only this but the leading partners we already work with, such as Airbnb and Booking.com, are pushing initiatives/sustainability badges for those hosts who are working towards the shared goal of reducing our impact on the environment.

ESG Partnerships

EnviroRental

We are thrilled to introduce our partnership with EnviroRental, the go-to source for short-term rental sustainability resources. This collaboration with EnviroRental allows us to provide our property owners with tangible, practical strategies for greening their business.

Who Gives a Crap

Saving hundreds of trees from being cut down, all of the properties cleaned by us have changed over to recycled toilet paper. As well as being known for the quality of their recycled toilet paper, we were keen to work with Who Gives a Crap because of their commitment to donating 50% of profits to help build toilets and improve access to clean water in countries with poor sanitation infrastructure.

Wonky Coffee

By working to recycle unwanted coffee pods which would otherwise go to landfill, our partnership with Wonky Coffee helps us come one step closer to our aim of reducing waste within our operations.

And more exciting partnerships to come!

We also have partnerships underway with Ecologi, EightVersa and GreenTheUK, and will be updating this page soon with more detail on how these partners are helping us to reduce the environmental impact of our services. We’re committed to being as informed as possible on how our services have an impact, and to use this knowledge to make even more positive changes going forward.

People Action

Throughout 2024 we’re aiming to engage our people in more charitable activity than ever. As a team, we’ve long been spending our volunteer days helping to support local causes, but this year we’re seeking to maximise this support. We’re proud to have won awards for the progress we’re making on our ESG efforts, and ambitious to achieve even more.

To do this we’ll be:

  • Launching a volunteer calendar so that our people can easily and conveniently support causes they care about, knowing they have the full support of their team at Host & Stay.
  • Establishing a national charity partnership with regular fundraisers, allowing our ever-growing team to participate whatever their location.
  • Engaging our team in our carbon reduction plans and focusing on educating each other on the importance of a healthy planet in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle and workplace for us all.
  • Launching our Steps challenge this May, encouraging our team members to get outside, socialise and fundraise for Mind during Mental Health Awareness month.
