So, if you’re holidaying in North Yorkshire and you’re looking for a romantic restaurant for you and your loved one, keep reading for our favourite spots.

Countryside Restaurants

The Black Swan

Countryside Restaurant | Michelin Starred | Oldstead near Helmsley and Thirsk

The Black Swan in Oldstead offers just one menu… But it’s a good one! The Michelin Star restaurant boasts a tasting menu which has been carefully curated so diners can enjoy a purposefully designed experience. This menu has been developed by the Banks family who own the restaurant. The family have lived and farmed around Oldstead for many generations, so they want their food to represent Oldstead with their own unique twist.

Chef Tommy Banks was Britain’s youngest Michelin-starred chef in 2013 and he also won Great British Menu in 2016 and 2017! It’s no surprise then that The Black Swan has gone on to win The Best Restaurant in the UK by The Food and Travel Magazine in 2018 and also the Best Fine Dining Restaurant in the World by TripAdvisor in 2017!

If you’re looking for somewhere specifically for Valentine’s Day, unfortunately The Black Swan is already fully booked for that day but there is availability for other dates throughout the month. Booking The Black Swan is definitely advised – you don’t want to miss out!

The Hare Inn Restaurant

Countryside Restaurant | Award Winning | Scawton near Helmsley

Nestled in the small village of Scawton near Helmsley, The Hare Inn Restaurant offers an intimate dining experience. This 12th century inn has been transformed into an impressive restaurant offering an 8-course tasting menu. It isn’t short of awards either – they have been awarded 3 AA Rosettes between 2016-2021 and they won Yorkshire Life’s ‘Restaurant of the Year’ in 2019.

If you’re planning a visit to The Hare Inn, you will need to book a table in advance. The head chef, Paul Jackson, and his team prepare the food fresh each day based on the numbers they have booked in, so we’d recommend getting your visit booked in early.

Coastal Restaurants

Restaurant Number 20

Coastal Restaurant | Michelin Plate | Port Mulgrave

Settled in the quiet village of Port Mulgrave, you’ll find Restaurant Number 20. This Michelin Plate gem is owned by husband and wife, Jason and Sue Davies. Their menu changes each day but there is always a focus on providing unfussy seafood with a Mediterranean twist. With an unpretentious approach to cooking, the dishes on offer are always refined and most importantly delicious.

The restaurant itself is a cosy space with only a dozen tables so you can experience a really intimate dining experience. There is an impressive open kitchen where you can watch Jason in action preparing and cooking all of the dishes. Restaurant Number 20 can be fully booked up to four weeks in advance so we definitely recommend calling to book.

Seaview Restaurant

Coastal Restaurant | Incredible Sea Views | Saltburn-by-the-Sea

Seaview Restaurant is located right on the seafront in the beautiful Victorian Spa town of Saltburn. Perfectly named, the restaurant has the most incredible views of the beach and Huntcliff in the distance. You may have seen it on BBC’s Remarkable Places To Eat which features Nadiya Hussain and Fred Sirieix visiting Seaview Restaurant as part of special Yorkshire episode.

The restaurant serves the freshest seafood which lands from the surrounding waters daily. Our personal favourites are the moules mariniere which are served with gorgeous sourdough bread and fries, or traditional fish and chips. After all, nothing beats fish and chips by the sea in North Yorkshire!

Seaview Restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It’s walk ins only during lunch time but booking is advised for evening meals. There are still tables available for Valentine’s Day but we expect these will be fully booked really soon. Book now to avoid disappointment.

Located in the centre of the Victorian spa town, it’s ideally placed for both lunch and evening meals.
